  1. QUOTE(pantherdad @ Mar 6 2007 - 10:49 AM) 826401988[/snapback]Stone has less than the 996 number of students, where did the 1100 figure come from? they will be AA next year because that is where they should be!! The number will be checked next year and if they go over the 1,000 mark they will be moved up for 2009. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

Not sure about the 1100 number, but earlier in the year, I was told by someone within the schools administration that they had 1006 students. The 996 number was the number of students that preregistered or something. I think the 1006 number was the total after new students and transfers were included.

Anyway, best of luck to the lady panthers tomorrow night!! Wouild love to see them advance.

Jabstep??? Seen him do what? I read your (mostly accurate) scouting report so you obviously have been to see this team play pretty often. He has demonstrated all season that he is only willing to try and fit a square post in a round hole!!! He has had the perfect opportunity to get all his young players some PT but as I said in another post he just lets the same people make the same mistakes over and over and over and over.... He runs that pathetic 5 out offense designed for guards or a shooting team! Stone Memorial could use that offense but Kingston needs to scrap it!!!! Baskeball always was and always will be an inside out out game. To take posts and put them on the perimeter is STUPID! Who will rebound? Not the guards. The coach doesn't seem to impress upon the ENTIRE team that they need to rebound. I know that long shots create long rebounds (alot in Kingston's case) but to put your posts out there is senseless. Even if your scouting report is true and the starting post makes 30% of her shots, that is still better than the 2-5% (I'm being generous here!) of shots the perimeter players make. Posts need to be in the paint. Bigdave25 says to give him some time. I don't want to watch poor coaching over and over and over......

Very well said. I agree completely. I'm not sure where Jabstep got his numbers but if you look at the individual stats posted on the Knox Prep Extra Website, I believe the post he refers to as making only 30% of her shots, actually makes about 47%, thats according to the stats on Prep Extra. Not sure how accurate those are though. It really doesnt even matter, basketball is not an individual sport, it should be all about the team. I personally dont care who does the scoring, I would just like to see the girls average more than 30 or so ppg.

  3. Congrats to the girls who made the team

Coach of the Year - Tim Smith (SM)

Player of the Year - Laura Novikoff (CAK)

    All District Team

    Chelsey Brown (SM)

    Jada Buckner (Loudon)

    Destiny Dishman (SM)

    Blair Ellis (A.C.)

    Mardessa Hampton (Loudon)

    Kaycee Harvey (Loudon)

    Brielle Hoffman (CAK)

    Kate Lowe (Scott)

    Janell Manard (Loudon)

    Erica Martin (SM)

    Emily Oaks (A.C.)

    Lindsay Smith (SM)

    Tayler Smith (Kingston)

    Addison Springer (Catholic)

    Brittany Strunk (Scott)

One that is surely missing that should definitely be on the list:

    Whitney Elliott (A.C.)

I believe she's their teams leading scorer and probably the best player they've got.

Not exactly sure why she wasnt chosen.

Give him a couple of years! He has a major hurdle to get over and it's called youth! If things don't begin to turn around by Christmas or so of next year then you can say it's the coaching. Until then support the program!

I'm all for giving him time, however, he's had all last summer and 29 games so far this season. I think its unrealistic to think they would have a winning season this year after watching them last year. I do think, that as a fan, I would expect to see some kind of gradual improvement from where they were at the beginning of the season. Watching them play, I can tell you that they havent made any progress, if anything, they've gotten worse. They still struggle to make good passes, their shooting is about the worse I've seen at the high school level and he still hasnt done anything about some of the players attitudes.

I do support the program, but I would like to see some kind of improvement!! I'm not even expecting wins, just teach them how to pass a basketball without turning it over.

BBball nuts- I think you have gotten talent confused with athletic potential.

My scouting report on Kingston-1 Senior, No experiene, No basketball ability. 1 Junior, limited experience, no basketball ability. Post starter, sophomore- strong and athletic but cannot finish, 1 move, turns to the right-fades away-throws it up-Makes about 30 % from 5 ft.-easily frustrated, poor free throwshooter-hard to coach. Soph pt. guard-limited ex. out of control, cannot shoot, penetration-will charge in penetration-very hard to coach. Off guard- dido point guard -even think they theyare sisters. Bench 6'1 post- soph.-weak, cannot catch, cannot finish, pressure her on any rebound, will turn it over. Dido 5"11 Freshman post. Seen most of the games- its not coaching. JV team vs. Varsity schedule. Give it time. I think it will change. Only thing is attitiude for this team. Very poor from top to bottom right now. That will change or it will be a VERY-small team. Seen him do it.

I dont think I'm confused about Talent vs Athletic potential. Remember, several of these kids are only Freshman and Sophmores, to be that young, they have some talent. A coach has to be able to develope that talent as well.

As for your "scouting report" , it has some merit. I just get tired of watching Coach Anderson do the same thing over and over. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and over and expecting different results. One thing you say that I totally disagree with is "give him time" and "seen him do it", heres my questions, how much time does he get? They've played 29 games and that doesnt count the games during the summer camps they attended. If you've really watch as many games as you say, you know this team has gradually gotten worse. I would also ask what have you seen him do? As far as I know, his first Coaching job was as an assistant to Plemons the last few years and he didnt seem very involved in what was going on during the game. Please explain what you've seen him do as a Coach.

  6. What has happened to the Kingston Girls Basketball team? I've never seen a team nose dive like this one has! Considering the level of talent they are suppose to have, why have they fallen apart this year. I've seen them play a few times this year and man, its hard to watch. I looked at their record on Coacht and crunched some numbers, check this out -

    Since Dec 15th, they are 1 - 18

They're scoring an average of 32 ppg

They lose by an average of 24.3 ppg

If I hadnt seen them play, I would never have believed they were in this kind of shape.

Is anyone coaching them??? If so, what are they doing???

  7. I hope you're referring to making it to the Region before they graduate. They're not going to make it this year. I've seen them play several times this year and even before they lost Gentry or Hardin, they were a team that was struggling. They have absolutely no one that can shoot from outside consistently which makes it somewhat difficult to get the ball inside to Smith or Martin. I also agree with JACKETDAD about them turning the ball over. Although their point guards are young, there's no reason they should be turning it over like they do. They make some of the worse passes I've ever seen a team make. I really do hope Anderson can turn this program around, he's got some athletes on this team if he can just get them to play up to their potential.

  8. The Smith girl looked real good last year wasnt she a Freshman last season? And the Givens girls look good for the most part but they will have to impove this year and Gentry and Hardin will have to step up and lead this team or it will be a long year for their new coach.

Should be a good test in the HOF game.

Tayler Smith was a freshman last year and was the second leading scorer behind Gentry. Smith lead the team in Rebounding also. I heard she played for an AAU Team out of Anderson County (Tennessee Raiders). They won the State Championship and competed in the DII Nationals in Orlando and came in fourth. Gentry will again be counted on to be their scorer and hopefully provide some team leadership. She needs to be able to bring the team together so they play as a team and not worry about individual stats.

Kingston biggest problem is they dont have anyone that can score from outside. Most teams can clog up the lane making it tuff for them to get the ball down low to Smith and Martin. Until someone develops a consistant outside shot that can be counted on, Kingston girls will continue having trouble on offense.

They have a couple freshman from what I've been told that will be able to contribute this year as well. Brooke Thearpe will get time at point guard and Jenna Raye will probably get time down low. Thearpe is fast and can handle the ball pretty well. Ray has some height and should be able to add to their offense and defense.

  9. I've never seen Glory play, however, I've heard nothing but great things about her. I'll get to see her play during this season though, I cant wait. As for Faith, I've seen her progress from the time she played AAU until last year at Anderson County. She continues to get better. At Webb, she should get some good coaching to help her mature as a stronger and faster post player. Her coach at AC was useless and unfortunately couldnt teach her anything. As for her shooting ability, for someone her size, she has one of the sweetest outside shots you'll see.

  10. From what I've heard, the girls are happier with Coach Anderson than they were with Coach Plemons. From a fans perspective and things I've heard, Coach Plemons always wanted to be the boys head coach. He was just coaching the girls until Sitzler quit coaching. Hopefully Anderson really does want to have a winning team and is able to instill a winning attitude with his new team. One thing he definitely needs to do is put a stop to some of the poor attitudes I've seen from some of the girls from last year. I say put' em on the bench if they dont buy in to his way of coaching.

  11. Not trying to be mean or smart, I'm sure you're just ready and excited about the season, but I think you put who they'd have back in a post yesterday:

"I talked to a friend and they told me they have the following girls returning: Brooke Gentry, Tayler Smith, Alisha Martin, Katie Hardin, and Jennifer and Jacklyn Givens. They also have a couple incoming Freshman that should see some playing time, Brooke Thearpe and Jenna Raye."

You're correct, however, the person I spoke to is from Knoxville and wasnt sure if everone they mentioned was for sure returning. You're also correct that I'm very excited about the season starting. Just trying to get as much info as possible.

  12. I to think they will be better than last year. I talked to a friend and they told me they have the following girls returning: Brooke Gentry, Tayler Smith, Alisha Martin, Katie Hardin, and Jennifer and Jacklyn Givens. They also have a couple incoming Freshman that should see some playing time, Brooke Thearpe and Jenna Raye. I see them possibly finishing second in their District behind Stone. They played Loudon close last year only losing by 6 or 7 in those games and they actually beat CAK once or twice. If things go their way and they play up to their potential, it could be a good season for them.
