  2. Say there is a wrestler who has wrestled ??? (let's say 152) all year long.

He is thinking about dropping to 145, but preseason weight mgt testing

states his lowest possible weight is 145.3. Can he drop to and wrestle 147

for the remainder of the season? (Assuming that he does not exceed the 1.5%

rule) If so, must he wrestle that weight at a dual or can he start @ a later

    time?

From my understanding. A wrestler can certify at a lower weight and be within 2% of that lower and cerify to wrestle at the lower weight as long as he or she passes the hydration and body fat test.

    Example:

A 125 pounder needs to certify at 119. He can weigh 121 and certify at 119lb weight class. Because 2% of 121 is 2.42lb. 121lb less the 2 percent (118.58) qualifies that wrestler to certify and wrestle at 119lb assuming he/she passes the hydration and body fat test.

Information from the TSSAA Site that may better help explain the weight management program and it can be located at: http://www.tssaa.org/Handbook/wrestling.pdf

The lowest weight class in which a wrestler may compete will be determined as follows:

    1. If the predicted weight, at 7% body fat for males and 12% for females, is exactly that of

one of the weight classes that shall be the wrestler’s minimum weight class.

    2. If the predicted weight, at 7% body fat for males and 12% for females, falls between two

weight classes, they must wrestle at the higher weight class.

    3. The wrestler may wrestle at the weight class in which their 7% male/12% female body fat

predicted weight, less 2% of that weight, places them.

  3. Where was Blake Thomas at 112? He did not wrestle at Father Ryan either?????.....

I was wondering the same thing! Skip the Ryan, wrestle the Brentwood, Skip the dual against Ryan. Hard to imagine why he'd pass up wrestling Mosley given that he beat the Rickman kid from GA, that majored Mosley at the McCallie.

Why do wrestlers avoid wrestling tough matches? Isn't that what the sports about.

  4. I believe Adrian Norfleet lost his last match as a feshman to Chattanooga Centrals Brent Pope who ended up being a state runner up his senior year losing to jason Villars by 3 in the finals. I do not think Norfleet lost again after that match his freshman year but Im not positive.

Adrian Norfleet didnt lose a match in the three years that he won the state championship. Thats when you really knew who the best kid in the state was without a doubt. He won the state title at 112, 119 and 125 for Whites Creek High School.

  5. I'm guessing your quote came out this way because you have probably seen a match at some point where the official determined the winner of a match instead of the wrestlers. I have watched matches that don't matter to me one way or the other who the winner is and could still tell you afterwards that a kid got hosed.

    you think?

Happens more often than people think. An official should NEVER decide a match, but unfortunately it happens. More in the state of TN, than most places we've traveled to. Not sure why that is, but when an OPINIONated call decides a match, it's never a good thing. Clear cut calls should and have to be made, but the rest should be left up to the kids. You adults that think you are above this, are the ones that killing the sport for the kids. But my guess is that you don't care to truly take a hard look at yourself and adjust the things that you are missing.

Clear cut calls are certainly the objective of an official. However, there are some instances that are left to judgement using the rules as a guide to justify that position. Are mistakes made, well of course. But, if one mistake causes an unfair advantage to one wrestler over the other it's one mistake to many.

  6. The Thread says, State Predictions Anyone?...

It doesn't say excluding coaches, officials and/or persons associated with the TSSAA. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. However, to insist or accuse an official of being bias is anything but the truth. I've officiated matches of some of the best kids in the state. However, I've never been bias and I called the match right down the middle as any official should. It's for that reason that I officiate some of the best tournaments in the state.

When I posted my predictions I was doing so as a fan of the sport. I'm smart enough to seperate the two worlds of officiating and being a fan of the sport.

  7. I don't keep up with DI enough, so I wont get to that one just yet, but I will take a stab at DII.

If you really are a TSSAA wrestling official, I am incredibly surprised to see you make such a public prediction like this. What in the world are you thinking? You should know better than that. Shame on you. If it's true, you best hope your name remains a secret. Unbelievable.

What's shameful about an individual stating an opinion? Its merely an opinion. I'd suggest that you check this thread again as I'm not the only person that has listed their predictions. Hence the thread, predictions!

  9. 125 is loaded, I don't see him making the finals if he makes it there. At 130 he's already been majored by Woods. Turbo is good no doubt but he won't beat Herron and I don't think he could hang with Hayden either.

So hey there wrestlinggod what was that about u saying greg shephard wasnt good enough to make the state finals he did just beat the number one rank at the state at the indy tournament

That was the Independence Tourney, not state. I could have told you that Greg would have beaten Cullen King. But I stand by what I say, I still dont see him making the state finals. We will see this weekend at Soddy. 125 is hands down the most stacked weight at soddy...

I think that the 125 pound weight class on both sides, D I and D II, is one of the toughest weight classes in the state. The Indy tournament is a far cry from the state tournament but good luck to all! Would love to be at the Soddy Tournament but I'm sure they'll be alot of action at the Ryan Tournament this weekend.

The weight classes seem a bit off. But it's great to see that more than 30 wrestlers are represented from TN.

  11. 103 - Austin Oliver (Cleveland), Jacob Climer (Bradley) and Caleb Langsford (Walker Valley)

The Tullohoma kid will beat all 3 when they wrestle

I think Maxwell won that last time he wrestled Mullin

Manley and Baker at 125 bet Manley stays at 130 from the posts I have read he is doing well at that weight

Thomas and Maxwell at 112 when would they run into each other?

Woods and Lopez at 130 Lopez whens it all this year

Hooker and Doster at 140/145 Hooker is wrestling @ 140 now

    Hooker and Miller at 145

Cox and Miller at 145 Miller wins it all

    Calloway and Manley at 125

    Marchetti and Calloway at 125

    Pinkstaff and Wesley at 171

Mosley and Watson at 119 the Tennesean shows Mosley has already been wrestling @ 112lbs and heard yesterday that Watson is hurt so prob want see that match

Thomas and Maxwell would see one another at the Ryan Tournament most likely...

Whats happened to Watson? So, Zach isn't wrestling this weekend at the Duals?

Does any know if we will see a repeat of the Mosley vs. Calloway match up this season? Well, I suppose Mosley would have to move to 119 and Calloway would have to move from 125 to 119 during a dual match up.

  12. I was looking at the ranking for Division I and Division II and noticed that there are some really good potential match-ups this season. Depends on whether kids stay where they are or shift up or down a weight class.

Any thoughts on any potential match-ups this season??

    Just a few....

Manley (Baylor) and Baker (CBHS) at 125

Thomas (Brentwood High) and Maxwell (Karns) at 112 (f Maxwell comes to 112)

Woods (Franklin High) and Lopez at 130

Hooker (McCallie) and Doster (Baylor), Miller (Greenback) at 140/145

Cox (Indy High) and Miller (Greenback) at 145

Calloway (Brentwood Academy) and Manley (Baylor), Marchetti (Ryan) at 125
