  1. I didn't make any predictions on the game there last year. However, I will say that Lesley has had Morgan's number over the years. Congratulations on state championship #1. However, all I am saying is that none of these teams, including LA, Upperman, Obion, Central, whoever, are unbeatable this time of year. Upsets happen.

Seems Morgan has had Lesley's "number" on more than one occasion also...

  2. Way off on this game. Meigs hits a last second shot to beat MC by 1. Fouls, fouls, and more fouls called. Hats off to Meigs. It was their night.

Meigs played a great game. Central was hurt offensively & defensively by having starting point guard Payton Williams out with an injury. Without her the offense couldn't get clicking. Massengill can generate scoring herself -Think she had 30- but team needs payton to keep floor calm.

  3. I had this predication all wrong. Lady Tigers played very well. Coach Powell had a good game plan. Lady Tigers seem to be able to match up physically. I thought the 3-2 zone force the Chargerettes into shooting the three and kept them from getting the ball inside to Massingil. Chargerette freshman continue to improve. Meigs will get some calls at their gym. The return match should be interesting.

massengill must have gotten the ball some...paper said she had 24

  4. Agreed. Meigs played well last night. The only problem though is they wont shoot the 3 in every game like they did last night. I think they hit 6 or 7 in the first half which is what helped them get the lead. Second half central didnt give them as many open looks and was able to pull away. Credit to Meigs. They were ready to play. But lets also give Central some credit. These girls are also very young plus they have a target on their back every time out being the defending state champs. Everyone is gunning to beat them. They kept their composure and came out after the half and did what they needed to do to win the game. I take nothing away from Meigs but they probably played their best game of the year last night. I cant say the same for Central.

  5. Pumba, I am agreeing with your point. Not sure why you quoted me. It's just sour grapes with lionheart. Our top three scorers were all on the bench with foul trouble. Cannon shot 33 free throws. The free throw differential was Cannon 31 Central 19 until Cannon fouled three times at the end to stop the clock.

sorry that was directed to our fan, lyonheart

  6. give me a break. They called 27 fouls on Central to 19 for Cannon until Cannon started fouling to stop the clock at the end. Cannon shot 33 free throws for crying out loud.

The fact of the matter is...11 and 24 were on the bench for a LONG time and cannon for whatever reason didnt take advantage of that. I give credit to the defense of the central girls that held cannon. Even when both came back in they stepped out of the way for cannon to score open layups. Perhaps you need to direct your anger to your "emotional" coach?????

  7. In general, I prefer smaller schools. But for a parent to send their child to a certain school based solely on athletics is absurd. If you're a good player, you'll get noticed just as much by colleges at a school that isn't as successful in their athletic programs as you will at the one that is more successful.

And if you're implying that McMinn County High is inferior to McMinn Central in academics, than I'll just have to laugh at your ignorance. Either school will more that adequately prepare a student for college if the student puts forth the effort.

not a reference to academics...simply suggesting many parents prefer the disciplinary atmosphere of the smaller mcminn central to the much larger mcminn county.

  8. Also remember they recruit very well through their "AAU" Mcminn Fire program, players from riceville, athen, calhoun, etowah, just to name a few.Remember McMinn is a very "BIG" County,LOL

Theres another school in the same county that about 1600 students attend as compared to the 700-800 at central. students can attend either school. from what i here there are many reasons to send your kid to the smaller one...not just athletics.

  9. 1st off, no problem with MC as they have a great tradition and program. A poll that is based on win/loss should be based on just that. Everyone knows there is a difference in pre-season and early season. For one, only one of them counts. For two, different variables are playing themselves out in a scrimmage such as coaches trying different combos, taking a look at younger players in game-time situations, and sometimes its a final try-out 4 a varsity position. Two years ago LA boys beat Boliver 20+ in a playday, then lost to them in state tourn 20+. The fact is MC lost to the 3rd place team in 8AA. So you really dont have a leg to stand on in this debate!

I can assure you one thing...whatever games anyone won/loss in November will not matter the first of March. MC has one loss...yes to CC. MC also beat TN High by a greater margin than Elizabethton did in one game but I dont think thats a good case to rip #1 away from Elizabethton. By your logic thats what it seems should happen which I dont agree with. You are inconsistent by suggesting that because MC lost to CC that MC has to lose to everyone in 8AA. Dont take the polls this seriously.

FYI...in the preseason scrimmage BOTH coaches played on pretty even terms. 5 in 5 out. Neither tried to "slip" in their starters against the others reserves. No that scrimmage didnt mean much but neither do the games in November when it comes to substate time...especially if you dont play substate in your own gym. Yes there are many variables...some of which you need to just sit back and watch play out. There will be 2 teams from these 2 regions go to state and its not going to be determined by who won what in Nov. Maybe there will be surprises maybe not but dont decide the outcomes before Jan is even over.

Your response to anything MC tells alot.

Good luck the remainder of the season and maybe we will meet again!

  10. LA dominated Cannon having them down 30 for much of the game before finishing with a 20 point win. I think the top team from 8AA should at least be in the top 3, considering the current 3rd place team from 8AA(Cannon) beat #2 MC!

Kodger its obvious theres an issue you have with MC. While Cannon did beat then 2 months ago...MC did beat LA in a preseason scrimmage. If we want to start going back to the beginning of the season we will. Maybe it was just a scrimmage but I will tell you on that one Saturday MC matched up well against LA so calm down and let the region and substate play out.

  11. I hope you are using sarcasm about Cannon County...I agree about the sub state though as 8-AA(formerly 7-AA) has the hardware to show for it.

Actually i was being serious. I have seen them on sev occasions at home and otherwise. They def need to feed off the homecourt advantage in my opinion. I was more impressed with what ive seen from LA and Upperman.

  12. Cannon co beat Mcminn Central, Upperman beat Cannon, LA beat upperman. Lady Wildcats moving on uuuup!! weezie!! :P

Don't know that Cannon could beat McMinn Central at McMinn Central. Don't really see how Cannon beats anyone away from their home court. McMinn Central faired well against Livingston in a preseason scrimmage. But...none of this matters anymore. Its what happens at substate that counts for these 2 regions.

  13. Would like to congratulate polk co for having zero class..We cheered for yall in your first round game, yet in the championship game you sit in our section and cheer for gibson...I understand we're rivals but way to have no class..

Polk County kids were just jealous that they weren't good enough to make it the finals! That just shows they have NO class!!!!!!!!

Way to go Chargerettes on a great season and great game! You made us all proud of you!

Thought this thread was about the Gibson, Central Game. But, since you keep bringing Polk fans into it. Sorry they don't want to or can't cheer for you, SORRY! Jealous?? You had the luck of the draw which means so much in state tourny play.Congrats to both teams. Coming from a Polk fan. Region Champs. OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Home of the GOLD BALL!!!! :thumb:

Lets see...South Green wore Polk(20+) out in the FIRST round. Gibson completely dismantled South Green(~40). Central played Gibson within 3. Don't see how the draw had much to do in the end. Central ended up playing Gibson in the end anyway. Polk cant play Boro style ball. Thats why their ball is 30 years old...and they havnt been able to manage even a silver ball since.

  14. Very bad in the game tonight. Let the girls push each other around, then called picky stuff to make up for it. McMinn was on Marshall Co.'s girls' backs all night, and nothing was ever called. Be thankful that preacher ref hasn't reffed a game yet. By far the worst ref in high school basketball.

It wasn't just Marshall that got the raw end here. You have to be intellectually honest and say McMinn Central got shafted too...when they were called for hand checks but got their head knocked off at times with a no call. I'm not going to start this ref stuff. Believe me it would be easy but I was raised better than that. I wish Marshall good luck tomorrow.

  15. When it comes right down to it, if you don't like a certain school's fans.....WIN YOUR REGION!!! If Central's fans, gym, whatever are so vile, this should be incentive to do whatever you have to do to not travel there. I have to say York, Livingston certainly outclasses you. There is always "yick-yack" back and forth but when they've come to play they haven't carried on to this extent. I do remember reading when the two of you played each other, they complained about your behavior-something about dragging a pig around so don't get too pious here. You lost, think about what you can do better next year.

I'm done discussing this as I am thinking about Murfreesboro. Win or lose, Central will be there and not on the couch griping about sub-state.

  16. Anyone in that gym tonight would HAVE to agree with that. They were definetly taken care of McMinn.

There were no calls on BOTH sides. Why is it when any of the mid tenn teams come to visit and they lose its always the officiating? Maybe just maybe the other team is better and DEEPER. Yes, there is a home court advantage, that's why you are supposed to play hard in the region champsionship-so you don't have to travel . York's problem was they played the same 5 girls as long as they could with no subs. They were tired and unable to be where thay needed to be on defense-that's why the fouls were called. Whatever poster suggested that the refs were local apparently knows nothing about how things work at this level. FYI, they send refs from an assoc outside of the two teams.

  17. News Flash! York plays in 7AA they won't be shocked by anything McMinn Central does. Not saying they will win but they won't be shocked thats for sure! They still playing in that tiny "round" gym? Man it was hot in there that one year we had to go down there!!!! /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

Here we go. We've already started with the "trash Central's gym" talk and we're still 2 days away.
