  1. First of All, I wasn't saying that CAK, Loudon, Alcoa, Rockwood, Sweetwater would compete and win in 3-4A, I was simply saying that THIS year Powell would finish behind these teams if they were in 2-2A based solely on their performance against CAK in the jamboree. I dont know, maybe Powell had a down game or came in over confident, but from what i saw, this is what I think. I respect Powell and I know that in years past they have been a power house but this year it just doesn't seem like it.

how many players does powell have? two platoons? sounds like alot. my instincts tell me if fergi and abba were not playing in the jamboree, then CAK may not have gotten the full effect.

  2. Webb should never have beaten Powell. They played them the first game of the season each year and our big boys were not able to withstand the heat. Webb does have a good program but could notcompete in 4A either. Word is that Bradley will win with Young's seniors class this year but will be back to normal after that. Powell will be down for a couple of years. Maybe CAK would agree to play us in after next year?

you're definitely wrong about the "big" boys not being able to stand the heat. if memory serves me correctly, powell's losses had less to do with blocking and tackling then it did with passing, throwing and carrying the ball into the inzone. you are right about one thing though. with the size and talent that powell has had over the past 6 years, webb should have never beat powell...but they did.

all criticism aside, best of luck to the panthers this year.

  3. It seems like a SEC influence that values skilled players rather than tight ends, o-linemen, and defensive tackles. I could be wrong, but you are sadly seeing that influence reflected in who is considered top high school prospects. Tennessee has a lot of great players in those "other" positions with tons of college potential as well. But here's my question, how do you figure guys who only have 1 offer are the state's top prospects? I would think top "prospects" have several offers which would reflect that they are wanted by several schools. But that's just my logic I guess?

  4. I have seen you guys play, and big and slow come to mind. How many tackles has Mcgaha had solo this year, I believe the number is pretty low. For a guy that big, someone on the other side of the line of scrimmage has kept him out of ALOT of plays so he isnt really HUGE a factor on the D-line. What is he 6'6 305? He should have his way on the field everydown, its no secret why lineman like that get alot said about them, its because of ther size not ability. Every school seems to have the one or two guys that looks like they can play, but the heart just isnt there. Many D1 schools take big guys like that because of size only!

Well "sport," eat your heart out. I guess you'll get the opportunity to see just how much size matters. :thumb:

  5. First of all, I know about your exchange with Cooper. I'm sure you intimidated him with all your knowledge of online postings. Second of all, to confront your negative comments about players on the team is perfectly legal and the RIGHT thing to do. So don't tell me to go talk to someone else about how mighty and powerful you are. I'm really not that dumb.

  6. Well let me clear it up for ya, goon, unlike you in the sense that they are actually going (as in driving to a campus to class) to a college...

Next off, since Bruhin was injured against Maryville, I guess that's why he played so well in the the South Doyle game which came AFTER the Maryville game.

Frankly powellfan, you should just stick to bashing Halls because that seems to be the only thing you're good for.

  7. Are you just a total moron or what? Let's see, first off, Lakin is a linebacker and if I'm not mistaken when you play a 3 man front, the big guys are fighting off 2-3 offensive linemen so that YES, the linebacker can come in and hit the guys with the ball. Second off, McGaha played strictly offense for 100 per cent of the games and defense for 50 per cent of the games and even at that he wasn't in 100 per cent of the time. Third, Bruhin just got back off an injury. He was injured during the South Doyle game. Furthermore, if you don't think they care, that just proves how much you don't have a clue about what you're talking about. I'm sorry, but unlike Cody Watts and Lee Smith, Bruhin and McGaha never let anyone place all the expectations on them to do it all. Besides, both these boys have a much bigger picture to think about now. Unlike you.

  8. haha.....I'm pretty sure you're not a disappointment to anyone, powellfan. No need to vent your jealously about not being able to stand on the sidelines and talk to both Zane and John Bruhin. Seriously, I'm trying to figure if you've really expected Bruhin and McGaha to tackle, block and...........score all the touchdowns too?? I mean seriously. It's just like a nobody to come on here and complain about the good players not being able to do it all. Why don't you stay home friday night and work on your next online degree....lol

  9. Ntheknow2,

I do have that little piece of paper that would allow me to do that, but you miss the point. I have no desire to coach OR's team, but I have seen three of my boys go through this program, and I might have a little insight on this subject. My last son finishes up this year and it would be easy to let it go, but anyone in the program knows what is happening. By the way, all three will be on scholarship, so it isn't sour grapes. Hopefully we will have a chance to meet up on the hoops circuit. ;)

No, I don't think I'm missing the point. I suppose you don't coach because you wouldn't want to be accused of Babysitting 101, would you? That blatant disrespect for people trying to do a job that you would NEVER do as a profession is the point I'm talking about. And I find it ironic that indidividuals have the audacity to accuse a coach, who had a pretty good season last year and not so good of one this year, of receiving the glory for the coach who came before him when everyone knows Oak Ridge has plenty of parents who bring their kids into the program because of their winning program. So, when you work with a program from the ground up, you let me know and then you might have a legit. gripe.

Oh, and no you won't be seeing me on the hoops circuit this year because I've hung up my basketball shoes for the love of DIV. I. But good luck with that as well.

  10. You are obviously clueless to this matter. Have a good life, and by the way, you would need a goon!!!!!

One of many posts from one, no doubt. Maybe since you obviously know more than everyone else, you should be coaching Oak Ridge's football team, but I guess you lack that little piece of paper that says you can. Oh well, too bad. Have a great life too, pal.

  11. That would be welcomed too. If you have a problem and are not too chicken sh*& to confront then sit back and hide behind the keyboard. Obviously you know who I am, but you would prefer to hide. I never hide or run from a face to face encounter. Maybe your money can hire you a goon! Talk to you later Sally! :D

Confront what? the fact that you're complaining about basically the same problem everyone else does at one time or another? I haven't a clue who you are , dude and obviously don't care. And btw, I don't have to hire a goon.

  12. Ntheknow2,

My suggestion would be to put down the crack pipe and join the real world. By the way, what a great post! I look forward to your next informative post. :D

well tnbreaker, my next informative post would be to just deal with it then like everyone else here in the real world. Besides, I was just basing my "suggestion" on what I'm sure you were already considering anyway.....moving somewhere else. Eventually there's just no where else to run is there? I'm sure no one is more "informed" than you are. ha! Good luck the rest of the season though, champ.

  13. McGaha was the young man I was thinking of but yeah I forgot about Bruhin they are both very impressive linemen. Any idea where they are going at the next level?

The offensive lineman you are thinking of is Jared McGaha. John Bruhin primarily plays defense while McGaha primarily plays offense, but when needed, they can play either way. Bruhin is Powell's defensive noseguard and defense is mainly his focus. McGaha is an offensive tackle/guard and focuses mainly on offense.

Currently, Bruhin has committed to Marshall and McGaha has not made any decisions.

  14. I don't blame Powell's young coach for not having control of his team. How can you say that? These guys are well behaved boys who seem to make the fatal mistake of relying too much on the authority to tell them EVERYTHING to do. If last year's team was out of control, this team is too much UNDER control. If anything, maybe Lowe needs to get onto his assistants for NOT making their units work more on the mechanics of the game. I would venture to say OSU, that this may be where the young coach is having problems.

Discipline wise, Powell's team has the potential to carry out whatever they are asked to do by their coaches, but they need to be "taught" to play the game.....not just "listen" to the coaches. The coaches and players need to recognize the dynamics between them as a team. I could be wrong, but I'm just stating my opinion based on what I'm seeing.

  15. Yep, an ugly win is better than no win and based on the last two games, it seem like Powell better get used to that. My question is why in the heck won't they identify and address those stupid, pointless mistakes that keep biting them in the end? Why not make the punter work on getting that ball off faster? Why not tell the running backs NOT to run up the middle into their own linemen? and delay of game of game penalties.....come on....how many is that? For some reason I'm thinking that the Seniors (many who are and can potentially go play college ball) need to start thinking a little more independently and not rely so much on their coaches telling them everything that they need to do. I guess that means.....God forbid should I say it....they actually start making some choices on their own based off of what the coaches are telling them. I don't know, maybe they get in trouble for that.

I knew this game wasn't going to be a blow out though. South Doyle will continue to improve and they are by no means out of the running. And here's a moral victory for South Doyle though. At least that good running back they've got didn't transfer to Powell  ...or better yet, Maryville :(

  16. Well the only thing good about the outcome of this game is the fact that it shows just how bad all the football teams in Knox County stink. Course if they could find a way to pay their head football coaches $70,000 + a year then maybe the story would be different. And rednblack, you need to quit whinning about Central players moving to Powell. I suppose Powell should whine about Powell players moving to Halls and Ftn. City in middle school which is exactly what happened. Cruze lived in Powell til his was in the 8th grade. That's 8 years he grew up with the guys he's currently playing ball with. Get over it.
