    Trey York Sr 2b Bearden

    AJ Simcox Sr SS Farragut

    Colby Skeen Sr 3b Powell

    Nick Senzel Jr 2b Farragut

  2. OK....here is my 2 cents.

Since Pitcher of the Year has been discussed to death, I will just make my pick.....Grant Painter.

As far as Player of the Year, I think it comes down to 2 players:

Austin Smith (Halls) 6 HRs, .470 BA, numerous extra base hits, great catcher.

Colby Skeen (Powell) 7 HRs, .495 BA, numerous extra base hits, great at 3B and closer.

My money is on Halls to sweep these awards since they were #1.

    Grant Painter and Austin Smith

  3. Does HVA have a legit shot at a state title? I watched both games in their tournament and I see them winning the district now easily but what about further down the road?

District champs in a weak district....that's as far as they go.

  4. You heard that the freshman is Hunt? But you're not sure?..........I think you heard it from yourself yesterday.

We should probably get back on topic and talk about the teams in 3AAA and what everybody has coming back from last season.

I think that is a very good idea...LOL

I know the way the season is spread out that several teams will be in the hunt for the league championship, but who truly has the quality pitching depth to win the tournament? I don't think anyone is deep enough to walk through it.

    Comments? :popcorneater:

    Congrats guys!

  6. I was very disappointed in Coach Scott Cummings' comments in the Knoxville News Sentinel. He gave no credit at all to Powell for hitting his team right in the mouth. The Panthers defense completely man-handeled West the entire game and all Cummings could come up with was "they were barking at us trying to draw us off sides". <_< Even he said he knew it sounded like he was whining! Wow....your team had a great season, playing in arguably the toughest region in high school football, and you are going to come up with that crappy excuse for the newspaper? Somebody needs to get Cummings a PR person....this is not the first time he has opened his mouth and crap came out. Give credit where credit is due!

Congratulations to the West players on a very successful season!

  7. I was told SC & Powell were in the same pool. SC had already beaten Powell 12-11 in Pool play. I talked to one of the players & they said everybody that was brought played with mostly JV varsity bench getting majority of the innings. CAK was unbeaten & so was SC. I wasn't there, so this is what I was going on. I agree with you on both having strong teams, I heard Haegan pitched for Powell & is the #2 pitcher, Congrats on both him & Drake!

    Score was 7-5 or 8-5?

On the other note, Austin doing Good! JV this year with good chance for a lot of pt next year! Thanks for asking! Hopefully SC can make it to where SC & Powell can see each other again!

    Scott,

Once again, I'm afraid you were very misinformed by the players you have talked to. Powell and SC were in different pools and played a cross-over game. I personally saw the pools on the schedule. They both won their respective pools. This is the fact. Powell and SC split with Powell winning the Championship game. Both teams played varsity players and they were 2 very good games. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out why SC is trying to avoid counting this loss so bad. Good teams lose to other good teams all the time. It's baseball! Also, Powell pitched a freshman named Dean Kidd who did a great job. He is probably 5 or 6 in the rotation. Hagen came in to get the last 2 outs of the game.

I guess we can all just agree to disagree, but when is the last time you saw the box score of a scrimmage game in the news paper? :roflol:

Glad to hear Austin is doing well. Best of luck to you guys this year!

  8. Just to try and switch gears from the 'Powell fest' that this board has turned into, I'll give me take on the district.

Pretty simple - this district can be easially divided into 3 groups:

    Top Tier

    1) A.C. - 2 lefties will set them apart

    2) Powell - will be able to pitch with most teams and out hit just about all

    3) Halls - is Halls and they'll be able to swing it

    Mediocre

    4) Oak Ridge - Strong soph class but that's all they have. They'll get more than they should out of what they have

    5) Hardin Valley - keeps getting better and won't be surprised if they move to the top third in years to come

    6) Karns - lost more than they could replace

    Cellar

    7) Central - Loses too many talented players to Powell and Halls. Lovett will right the ship

    8) Clinton - Good coach, no talent

    9) C.C. - *same as Clinton. Losing Williams to AC is a killer

That should give everyone something to talk about. I don't mean to offend anyone so don't take it that way, just my opinion on things.

POWELL FEST! :roflol: That's a classic!

I am glad another person (not from Powell) finally stepped up and gave their opinion too.

IT'S ABOUT TIME! Where ya been? Sittin there reading the Powell fest?

On 2 separate posts TSpoon asked folks from other teams to get on here and talk about their teams.

Why did it take you so long? Just kidding. So are ya picking AC to win it? I look for them to be strong.

Someone tell me who some of the A.C. players are, besides Roberts, Williams, and Durand. :popcorneater:

  9. Lets discuss pitching. Behind Owenby and Ledbetter, who will they have to come in and relieve or take the starter role if needed?

Here are some other guys that will take the mound this season for Powell:

    Austin Smith

    Tyler Alford

    Jeremy Latham

    Colby Skeen

    Jordan Sanford

    Hagan Owenby

    Taylor Braden

    Kyle Tracey

    Dalton Long

There may be a few more that I am leaving out.

  10. They just don't field the ball well. Great kids, great arms, hit it a ton. I have seen most of these guys play since 9-10 year old ball.

I do agree with you that defense is not their strength. But in district play, they will most likely field it as good as most of the teams.

Beyond district play could be another story.

I also know that these guys work really hard and you may see quite a bit of improvement in that area this season.

Best of luck to all the teams this year! :thumb:

  11. Powell without a doubt. Picking up Ledbetter to back up Owenby as the number 2 pitcher. Returning 8 starters in Skeen, Owenby, Sanford, Payne, Latham and so on. Should be tough to beat if they hit the ball like they can. Also some young talent

    Still gotta play the games!

I remember last year many people picking Powell in the preseason and Halls went 4-0 against em.

This WILL BE a close district! WORK HARD POWELL! :thumb:

Outfield will be the huge question mark this year. Conner is back as the only returning starter. He will probably end up in CF or RF. I am betting that the younger Owenby will get a chance to play out there as well. It will be interesting to see who all plays in the OF before it becomes clear who the starters will be.

    Any thoughts? :popcorneater:

  12. Oak Ridge could be a sleeper. They lost some big sticks in Monger, Woullard, and Normand, but they are returning almost all of their pitching. They went 4-0 against Clinton last year, so I'd have to put them up in 4 or 5 slot in the district. Their sophomore group is the class to watch; a lot of talent and travel ball pleayers in that group. Jordan Lane was at Thunder showcase in December and was clocked at 86mph, and had a great looking change-up and curve to go with it (went 6-0 as a Frosh). Connor Roberts (3-1 as a Frosh) has put on a lot more size in offseason, and looks to be an up-and-commer as well. Ralph O'Neal, another travel-baller, is a big, strong, and fast sophomore as well, and he should join with Matt Daniels, Elliot Normand, and Printice Young in that class to make a pretty tough 2012 and 2013 team if they all continue to develop.

    Nice post. :thumb:

Is Foxworth back to pitch this year?

What summer team does this sophomore group play with?

What do you know about Karns? :popcorneater:

  13. Powell had a slight letdown against Karns last week, but their defense picked up the slack with 2 picks for TDs, a blocked punt, and just solid D all night long not allowing Karns to score against their first string. I don't think Powell can get by with a letdown game against H.V. They are also undefeated in the district and don't want to let go of the top spot.

    What does everyone think? :popcorneater:
