  1. i thought you apologized to smyrna fans...so why the heck r u talking bad about them again? fairweather fans? paying off the refs? nobody has paid anybody..this game will come down to who wants it more...who digs down deep and gets the job done...good luck to both teams...

    !!!GO DAWGS!!!

You need to back a few....he was responding to a Smyrna fan who indicated that Smyrna was jipped during the regular season game..in which he accused Ravenwood of paying off the officials....

I believe this same clown is the one that accused Smyrna fans of being fair weather....this crap didn't come from Ravenwood....it came from one of your own!

  2. I'm going to go with Ravenwood if its dry and Smyrna if its wet. Im sure some of you will laugh at this but others who have a clue will know its logical.

Good point....although it was wet the last game....but I understand your thought....the Raptors are certainly a better team when it's dry...and it looks like Saturday will be sunny and DRY

  3. Don't believe me? Ask anyone who was actually standing there when it happened. Ask any of the Smyrna coaches, they will tell you it happened. I won't say anything on here that isn't true, and if you can PROVE me wrong then I will retract my statement. But as I said, it happened and I won't believe anything else because I saw it with my own two eyes. THAT is why I have such a poor opinion of Ravenwood.

Then you must have the same poor opinion on you own #17...and everyone saw that...including your coaches....correct?

  4. First of all whoever said that Maryville makes everyone look like middle school teams need to remember two games---M 17 Alcoa 14 and M 30 Brainard 26. So by your logic Maryville must also look like a middle school team that is just barely better than these two schools.

Second---this whole argument doesnt mean anything at all. Its all speculation and opinions. My opinion is that I dont care. Whichever team wins will be the best team that night in that game. Are they better than the Ravenwood/ Smyrna game. Who knows? Are they better than BA? I would say that if any of these school played each other ten times the results would be 50-50. Sure Maryville is good but they havent exactly played the hardest of schedules either. Put them in region 6 5A and see how many of your gold balls they have. Or put them in Rutherford Co. and see how many they have.

My point exactlly....couldn't have said it better myself...although I did try...thanks

  5. Ravenwood didn't exactly blow out anybody during their playoff run did they? Every team has a down game at some point. The POINT IS . . .when Maryville has a down game, they still Win. It seems when Ravenwood has a down game, they lose. I congratulate them on their obvious tenacity and clutch performances. Perhaps an even better indication of a good team is what they do after they lose. In this case, Maryville responded to the bad Brainerd game by soundly beating two teams who were both undefeated.

As far as the other things. Maryville has the best coaches in the area. They have booster money. They have community support. They have an outstanding weight room. Who needs talent to chose from when you can develop it better than anybody? They have incredible depth, as seen in their free substituion in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Finally, your premise is only valid about making a claim if you assume that 5A is inherently, definitively, and measureably better than 4A. In Middle Tennessee, Maybe, in East TN, definitely not. And even if Maryville moved up and won in 5A three years in a row we STILL wouldn't know who the best team in the state is by the above standard.

My God you Maryville folks are thick headed....read my posts again...and this time very slowly...so you understand the point.

Yes Maryville had an off game...and still won...against Brainerd.....

Here's my question...if Maryville had that same off game against Ravenwood in the first round of the playoffs...do they still win? Try to be objective if you can!

Regarding point 2...I'm not saying Maryville doesn't have those things......what I am saying is that in 5A you'll find a higher percentage of schools that do have the same things you've got........

Folks...this isn't that complicated...just go to Coach T schedules...and make an objective comparison....look at several 5A teams and their schedule..then look at the Maryville schedule....and this isn't an East TN or a Mid State issue...you still need to win both to win state............Maryville doesn't play a complete 5A schedule and dominate anything....I'm not saying they can't compete...I'm just saying they can't dominate 5A like they do 4A...in 4A they can have an off game and still win...in 5A...an off game in the playoffs and you go home....

Unfortunately I don't really expect you to be able to see any of this through those Maryville tinted glasses.........

  6. RavenCat here's another quiz. Who in 5A scheduled BA, D-B, Riverdale, Ravenwood, and Ooltewah in the regular season, much less consecutive weeks?

I look forward to hearing your answer.

No one...that wasn't the point...the point was...to play through an entire 5A season including the playoffs....these are the type of teams you would need to go through every week...Smyrna played Ravenwood, Riverdale in the regular season...they have to go through Riverdale...Ooltewah...and Ravenwood in consecutive weeks to win state..........Ravenwood played Franklin, Brentwood, BA, and Smyrna in the regular season...and have to go through Gallatin..Hunters Lane...White Station...and Smyrna to win state................

Other than Hillsboro and Alcoa (and they don't count to state since they're 2A)...I don't see any teams of this calliber anywhere on the Maryville schedule

  7. First off see my previous post for my opinion on this thread. Where I will disagree with you is 5A being the "big boys" compared to 4A. That theory just doesn't wash when the difference in enrollment could be 100 students or less. Just curious but did Ravenwood play that entire list of heavy weights you listed? Some of them are Div II privates. Alcoa beat McCallie, McCallie beat Riverdale, Maryville beat Alcoa. Does that mean that Maryville would beat ALL of those schools? No, I am not saying that but they could certainly compete with them and have the ability to beat them. That is all I am saying. Your threory that 100 students extra here or there, half or more of which could be females, suddenly transforms a team/school into more of powerhouse because it pushes them up a division is just as absurd a claim in my opinion.

They played about holf of them...won some and lost some....but that wasn't my point..........my point is simply this....the 4A path to the State Championship is not at all like the path to the 5A Championship....that 4 point win against 4th seed Brainerd.....if that had been 4th seed Ravenwood instead...and Maryville played the same game...they'd have likely been blown out.

If we were only talking about 100 kids...you'd be right....but most 5A schools aren't 1500...they're 1500 up to 2700..2800.....a higher percentage of these schools have better coaches....more booster money...more community support...bigger weight rooms...bigger talent to pick from....more depth of talent....etc...

The only way Maryville can make any claim...move up and play a full 5A schedule every year...not just a 5A team or an occasional private here and there...then we'll all KNOW!

  8. I continue to be amazed at how people debate on whether or not a school that has a smaller enrollment can "possibly" be better than a school in a higher classification. Does anyone know how many players can be on a field at one time? That is right class eleven. The best team will come out of the 4A championship game and that team will be Maryville the 24th rated team in the country. Guys quit getting hung up on classification. Earlier this year 2A Alcoa beat Chattanooga Mccallie the size of a 4A school even though they play in the private classifications and last year Alcoa beat 3A finalist Fulton while Fulton returned the favor in a nail biter this year. It still eleven players versus eleven players and Maryville could clean house this year in any classification. Some time down the road this will change as football has it's cycles like life. Yes I see the point that bigger schools have more possibilities to have more players and the law of averages says there will be more talent within that gene pool but enrollment does not take into account the intangibles like coaching, player talent, football philosophies, and community involvement. It is time to put this myth to a rest. Bigger does not necessarly better. At least not in football. :thumb:

Spoken like any true Maryville fan......well said! If Maryville played the same schedule as Smyrna..Ravenwood...Riverdale...White Station...Franklin....Gallatin..etc...their undefeated seasons would be just a pleasant memory.....which is why they stay where they are!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a quiz....it's a beautiful Friday night.....and you get to choose who you play...this week...you get BA or South Doyle......next week...you get DB or Heritage...next week..you get Riverdale or West...next week...you get Ravenwood or Lenoir City....next week...you get the Owls or Powel....week...after week....after week

On any given night...Maryville may compete at any level...they're a terrific program.........but through the rigors of an entire 5A season...they don't hold up!

  9. 14-0 Maryville plays 14-0 Hillsboro on Saturday. Is it possible that the 4A state champion is the best team in the state regadless of classification? I would like to hear from the 5A and division 2 teams.

Nope...all it means is that the winner is the best 4A team in Tennessee....period

If they need to be the best team in the state...they need to move up and play with the big boys....if the Maryville School web site is accurate...their student size numbers are 5A now...so it looks like Maryville is a 5A school playing in 4A.....

That doesn't mean play one big game against an OR and make a claim....that does mean the games like South Doyle, Powel, Heritage, West, Halls, and Lenoir City...are history......the new schedule will include the ORs, the DBs, the Owls, Bentwood, Franklin, BA, McCallie, Ridgeway, White Station, Germantown, Ravenwood, Smyrna, Riverdale, Gallatin types.......every Firiday night...........and there goes the no loss seasons................and that absurd claim!

  10. From this point on why don't we all lighten up a bit my post was probably a little jaded but after reading a lot of post from last game you can only be called classless and a thug so much

but that is over its a beautiful day

I think I will go wash my truck and maybe slide on over to mt pilot and get some pie and I would suggest you ravenwood folks get out and enjoy the weather also maybe wax your lear jet or something

From this point on all negative post about the opponent must begin with

    " I don't mean no dis respect"

once you do that it is all ok

Just traded the Lear...wouldn't go in the garage. Got a new Citation...shorter..will go in the garage...and has that new poly non stick surface...never needs wax...

  11. please dont be ignorant. your embarressing ravenwood in general with dumb statements like this

He's young...and doesn't realize that recruiting in the privates is how they survive...and is certainly not cheating.....as long as it stays in the private world.

  12. well sorry I was gone all weekend coon huntin with my wife and sister. After hunting the 2 of us decide to stop off for some cider and fireworks. The hunt did not go to well but we did get a chance to check on our moonshine still while we there and momma said it were doin fine and as soon as daddy gets out of jail we will take a batch up to raleigh and visit with sheriff taylor.

no reply needed I imagine most ravenwood fans will take care of this

but this validates what I posted earlier that someone said was the worst post they had ever heard --- now what do you say?

well got to go, them cows don't milk themselves :thumb:

everyone nees to have my policy, humor is the best defense

and I don't care what anonymous posters on a message board think of me

at least someone got it...cool response....and humor does make the day...!

  13. This is one of the worst posts I've seen. Ravenwood is in Brentwood, where the rich snobby people live. Rookie45 you are absolute idiot, you really represent Ravenwood fans well. :thumb:

His is no worse than yours...(rich snobby people),,,at least his was ment to be a joke.....and anyway...the kids aren't rich and snobby...just us parents...duh!

another joke that you likely won't get!

  14. Come on man the kid has came on here and done nothing but respected ya'll... This is a high school athlete and the things he has done since then not just on the football feild he deserves a little respect.. so can we please stop bashing him on here and wait till the game or something.. because I am sure your not on the feild helping your team..

Unfortunately, the only thing we've seen from him was a complete lack of respect...for his team and ours. As you well know...respect is earned.....if he projects that on Saturday...he'll have earned that respect.....but until then...he made his bed...!

  15. 82 cat brings up the elephant in the room and he better not get criticized too much. I'll pull up the Antioch - Ravenwood thread if anybody debates this because there were some "covert" comments from one or two Ravenwood supporters that seemed a little classless and "uppity."

I love watching both of these teams and will be happy that one of them will be the champ, but like I said, I think there have been a few Ravenwood fans who have that "since I live in the 37027, we're automatically superior in all fascets" mentality. Now, 98% of Ravenwood's supporters are great, but there is a vocal minority that have made some comments that should not have been made. You can say that about any fan base though.

    and none from smyrna..right!

  16. YES YOU HAVE COME A LONG WAY!!! :thumb:

If I were Ravenwood I would be very worried about the "new and IMPROVED" underdawgs17. You won't see much of him on CoachT this week, but come Saturday you will see more than you ever wanted to see of him. He has stepped up BIG and we are all very proud!

    GO DOGS!!!

    P.S. "I BELIEVE"

I believe he played the entire game last time...and played pretty well.....as I recall. He was doing fine until he tried to fight with a fan....I'll also say that the players indicated that 17 wasn't the cleanest player in purple during the game either. Let's hope this new and improved young man is truly that. He's too good a player...and really doesn't need any of the other crap to make his presence known!

  17. That cost factor is an interesting point....parents & a couple of younger kids...$30 bucks can be a lot just to see a game..if you don't have a lot...and that's every week...depending on how the team is playing...

I wonder if TSSAA has considered a special rate for students....or if a family (for whatever reason) is on the subsidized lunch program at school...maybe they could develop a special family pass to attend sporting events that were school related. I think that might allow more parents to attend....and therefore giving more support to the team.....just a thought!

The fact that someone paid $1.00 for a ticket that cost me $7.00...wouldn't bother me a bit! Maybe this a possible forum in and of itself....

  18. Well after looking at all the posts, it sure seems like WSHS is the underdog in this game. Probably stands to reason since this is farther than we have ever been in the playoffs before.

Its darn impressive that the Raptors have been around for only 4 years and are in the hunt for their second championship. I wonder if this has ever happened before.

Its sort of interesting to think you guys could have won the state faster , as a new school, than anyone else has ever done. Congrats.

I'll have to admit that surprises me...never been to the semi....how often has WH won Region...and how many times to the playoffs in general?

  19. I know that Ravenwood has put up some pretty impressive numbers in the playoffs. I don't think they put 38 on White Station. They may put 24 on them, but not 38. I also think White station scores on Ravenwood as well. This game may come down to who has the ball last.

By the way, what happened against Dickson County?

Mud...and lots of it. Ravenwood is a speed team and plays better on solid ground...DC is a '3 yards and a cloud of mud' team. Interesting enough..their field seemed to be quite a bit wetter than the school grounds next to the field...must have had a problem with the sprinkler system...my guess is that the sprinklers ran 24/7 prior to gameday....while it was raining! Unlike some other teams...Ravenwood won't use mud cleats...since they're not legal..!

But, that game is history...and likely set the tone for the Raptor playoff run!
