  1. I'm sure they made an effort to get players from Memphis, they did get James and Brown. Maybe others were just unavailable or there's a rule where the coaches have to be in the TACA for their players to take part. I wouldn't mind if players could just play in one statewide game at least when they're just a couple of weeks apart to give more the opportunity. That's not to the benefit of any player here really since one did play in the BCA game and the other senior signee is out with an injury. That wouldn't cover players involved in local or area games like the ones in Nashville and Chattanooga.

I'm guessing since the MTSU clan didn't have anything to do with it, its just not as political as everthing else is down there. Also these kids do need a break, most of them are playing year round for several years and do need to rest. NO matter it was still a great game to watch without them having any pressure to win, only for their own personal benefits and reasons. I know that several of them looked to be playing to have fun and we all know that its different to play to win and have fun, than to be so pressured and be miserable knowing that if we lose there are reprecussions.

  2.

It wa a very exciting game to warch and East was represented as well with some fantastic players. Alot of The Nike National Champions were on the floor from the East. Jasmine James played on that team as well. Kortni Jones , Dymon Raynor, Kayla Christopher ( who won the 3 pt. shootin contest along being named MVP of the East and game). West has alot of players that just did not show up Thursday night and they had to scramble around to find player to replace the ones that didn't show. The State of Tennesee was well represnted all around and all of the players did a great job. The staff at Travecca did a great job putting thegame on and they need to be congratulated for doing a fine job. All of the girls and guys there have a fun time and it was a fantastic time for them all!! Congrats to the ones who were named MVP'S!!

  3. Good point 91. A lot of times what is said and what is meant are two different things. It just seemed that KC was being a bit disrespectful to our team. She may not have meant it that way, but that is how they took it. Whatever was meant the result was that OS faced a lot more determined and focused team because of it. Clarkrange took KC out her game.

First off, Miss Christopher should not be a target of adults on this post ! She is a high school kid, not an adult and everyone knows quotes are misquoted in the newspaper!! I'm sure if the outcome was that Clark Range had gotten beat the quotes would have went the other direction. She wasn not being disrespectful, to anyone. Its the other way around. CR was the team to be beat and the whole OS community knew it. Now having said this, I can assure you, that CR may go undefeated and thats great, but....... be careful in what you say cause it could very well sneak up behind you and bite you on your backside. The OS team gave up after the first quarter and any one watching knows that defeat was there. How many times I've watched these girls play with heart and giving 100% is amazing!! Unfortunately, it appeared that only 2 or 3 people on the floor wanted it bad enough!! The 7 seniors on the OS team have huge accompolishments on their records and have excelled beyond belief. Just didn't get a gold ball is the only one. Life goes on to bigger and better things!!!! Be very careful of your backside, a wise person once told me, what goes around comes around and experience had taught that this is SO VERY TRUE!!!! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  4. Was you the same one who had some good Christian folk moved to the other side of the gym at one of your ball games?

Nope, don't think I have that kind of power any where, but it was kind of you to think so!! Did you get moved at OZ or something? What on earth did you do for that?? LOL /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

  5. I believe Christopher is the best player, but East Tennessee players in Class A don't have a good track record of winning the award. I believe it's something like three winners in 20+years.

The award is also voted on before the postseason.

Have you saw these girls play in various situations and if so how did they respond? Deserving of a Miss Basketball nominee? I mean lets face it, you should be an all around player that has the numbers in every aspect of the game. Defense should be part of the criteria, as should how they respond to a good defender. Their shooting percentage, how many rebounds, assists, how the floor is seen by the individual, and not only that but are they coachable to the coaches satisfaction? There are alot of factors that should be involved in the process. Being a Senior should not get them the award, but on the other side of that, experience is needing to be factored in also. Not just being a senior. If Candace Parker was a Freshman coming in to a Miss Basketball nomination, would you give it to her or a Senior that dosen't compare to her? In order to be able to vote you should be watching the girls in more than 3 or 4 games. You can tell if someone has the ability to play in 1 outing, but can you really tell how good they are up against different players and different teams? Also the ones that vote should not be centered around the Murfreesboro area. Politics should not play a part of the voting. I am sure that everyone says it isn't but........

Good Luck To All Three Girls!! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> The old cliche just being nominated is an honor, is just that.... AN HONOR! KK A/W !!

  6. Bigster,

Good luck to Lake County. I'll be there pulling for, I'm going to help carry our girls basketball team up for the games tomorrow. I think if Lake County can make a few early baskets and settle into their game that they have a good chance. What bothers me is Oliver Springs has been on the big stage before and that normally is a big plus.

TT will be quicker than KC but KC is a smarter player, the size difference wont be that big of a factor. I hope we do get to see them guard each other before the game is over.

Kayla's favorite bible verse is on the bottom of your post!!!! You would like her if you'd ever get the opportunity!! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  7. If Lake County can hold KC to 20 points they'll have a great chance of winning

Hey you guys, are you forgetting the other team members of Oliver Springs???? All of them are capable of something so, please include them in this discussion. Remember ...... is there an I in the word TEAM???? We all know that every team member pitches in and contributes!!!! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> But here we go to the BORO!!!!!

  8. Oliver Springs nailed six threes in the first half; three of those by Kayla Christopher.

And when it rains it pours: Oz, who banked in that long three? Ouch!

Kelsey Hall was very steady. Without her, it's difficult to see how Oliver Springs wins the game.

Would've loved to see the ball launched in Jordi Miller's direction on the game's last possession; however, four-point-nine is just that - - Four-Point-Nine. Almost impossible to go full-court against what (I think) was a two-two-one zone press), find the open player, and get a good shot off.

So many close calls, hits and misses. The Lady Cats ran a beatiful, under-the-basket curl, but the open layup was missed as regulation expired. And the pressure continued to build.

In the first overtime, Lady Cats trailed by one, missed, then fouled Shellie McKinney, who hit two free-throws, giving Cloudland a three-point lead at :12. The Lady Cats answered. They needed, and got, a near-thirty footer, at 4.0 seconds, by Christopher, to force the second overtime.

A couple crucial turnovers down the stretch, but still the Lady Highlanders had their chances. However, ultimately, Kayla Christopher hit a few huge shots, whereas, if she misses... Cloudland wins, plain and simple. It was like that.

I think that what a Miss Basketball Candidate is supposed to do isn't it? Congrats to a fantastic OZ group. If you looked at the tape there were crucial times that different players made some huge plays when OZ needed it. It was a team effort and was a great game. Unfortunately some one lost. Opposition was great. I think that the Cloudland team that showed up last night was a State Contender. They had huge hearts to win and played very hard. Kudos to them and their coach. Very well done!!! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  10. WILL SHE BE A STAR PLAYER IN COLLEGE

/roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> We are all assuming that is a statement not a question!!!! Andy knew what he was doing. The girls played well on their Nike National Team, so no DOUBT the both of them will make the program a force to be reckoned with!!!!

  11. Kayla Christopher is a great player and may win Ms. Basketball but it's a good thing they dont really consider the players attitude when they choose....she would be in trouble if that was the case.

How do you figure that? Just out of courosity? /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" />

  12. I know she was held to single digits one game and she was guarded by one person, she got a little help every now and then, mainly straight up. She did look fatigued or frustrated one. She is an excellent player, I don't believe anybody is saying anything bad about her, she has proven herself and will be fine. If it takes this board to motivate her, then she is not playing for the right reasons. I doubt she cares about this board.

No one is saying its a done deal, they are favorites at this point. It is still anybody's game.

One thing is for sure, if she were playing for motivation from the replies on this board (or any other player for that matter ) they would have give it up to the coat @@@@ a LONG time ago, because the replies are nasty to say the least. I think you are talking about the game at Oakdale that she was in single digits. The stats for her shooting were really low. Must have been a problem with the coach! If she can score like she did against Webb, believe me, Oakdale can not stop her if they could. Had to be at the game I'm sure to see that one. East Tennessee has some outstanding players in the area and I for one am very proud of each of the ones that play and are doing well. The ones that are sitting the bench contributes, because it takes a lot of guts and determination to play any sport when the activity list is so long that does not include any type of physical activity. Give it up to all atheletes and kids in this generation, becuase its a hard life to live!!!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

  13. Congratulations JJ, this honor is well deserved!

Nice accompolishment JJ along with the Nike National Championship and playing at Goergia!! Best of luck to you and Congrats!!! Stay playing hard!!! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  14. Kelli Reed is a great person and super player. She hung up 29 on OS and has had many big game against all classes of competition. "All she does is shoot the ball incredibly well." I think anyone that shoots the ball incredibly well will play college ball. Idiotic comment by the way. Christopher is a great talent but she was more productive last year when I thought she was the best player I had ever seen and really thought she deserved Miss B then. Don't know about this year as she's not the player she was or at least doesn't appear to be. She seems unhealthy or sick. Something is not right. Maybe she's just tired of HS basketball.

I have no idea why any one would post a coment like this!!!! If you watched this kid play any at all you would see the opposing defense is set to stop her. She has 2 or 3 people on her every time and gets shoved, kicked, scratched and any thing else you can think of and she's still averaging 20 pts. a game. She steps up when she needs to and passes when she needs to. Plus there are numerous times when she's came close to a double double by scoring, rebounding, and having assists in any combination. If something isn't right with her its the people making ridiculous comments like what was posted here!! Do you all think these kids don't read this stuff?? On one hand you may have done a great service to her, because I would take it to heart if I were her and prove people like you dead wrong!!! Hope I have done the little lady some good by saying this, because I wish her all the luck in her career of basketball and especially with the nomination to the McDonalds High School All American Teams that she's been nominationated for. Along with Faith Dupree, Kortni Jones, and Jessica Goswitz. Its to be announced on ESPNU Feb. 19. Is a great honor also!!! /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" /> /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />

  15. C-RANGE WILL WIN STATE THIS YEAR...THEY HAVE A REALLY GREAT TEAM...

Remember what was said about the TITANIC!! Something about not even GOD can sink this ship!! Every thing and every body can off an off day so don't count your chicken for they hatch!!!!! /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" /flower.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":flower:" border="0" alt="flower.gif" />

  16. Would you two let it go? Both are two very different style players, on two very different teams, in two very different Districts, Regions, & Classifications. Both of them have done what their teams needed and were very successful. Can't you let both of them enjoy what they've been able to do and quit comparing them. Laura and Kayla are friends, their family's are friends, and both have watched each other be successful at different levels.

I second that motion!!!!! Their families are friends and the OS community is small enough for every one to compare them any way without someone from the same town tearing them both apart, because that is whats happening on this thread. For someone to compare apples and oranges is ridiculous and so is this. Both are GREAT ball players with 2 different styles of play ,with 2 different mind sets, that really enjoy the game and have been an assest to the Oliver Springs Lady Cat program. I know who Standard is and I think I know who Adco is and if I am correct you both need to be taken out to the out house and horse whipped!! You are to be SHAMED!!! Personally you both should be banned frfom Coach T not only one!!

  17. I was able to go to Oakdale Tuesday night and watch the game, and I still think that there's no doubt OS is the top team. They came away with a 14 point win after they struggled the whole game and Kayla was held to 6 points.

Jma32, how does Coalfield need to worry more about Oakdale when OS went to Oakdale and beat them by 14??

I think OS will come away with a double digit win tonight. The lady cats play very well at home, and I'm sure they haven't forgot what happened to them last year in Coalfield.

My opinion is that Coalfield is 2 times the team Oakdale is. Oakdale is a very well coached team with Snow doing the honors for years. When OS played Oakdale, Kayla shot the ball 10 times and thats it. (2 for 10) She wasn't playing up to par and we all know if she'd had her average and with the other girls stepping up it would not have even been close at any point in the game. Coalfield is a contender thats a fact. Now what about Oneida? How are they stacking up in the mix? I think they are being extra quiet for some reason. Any takers on this subject? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

  18. Personally, I think the fans should stay out of the game when the game is being played. The way the fans were yelling at the players and coaches last night is unacceptable. The game is played between the four lines not outside them. It's not good for the kids on the court to be hearing and seeing all this stuff. I think the people who are in the stands should keep their mouths shut and let the players and coaches take care of their jobs.

On the other hand, I didn't think from watching the game last night that it was noticeably one-sided. Yes there were some calls that went for OS, but there was also calls that went for Coalfield too. Coalfield came out very hot and determined to win. In my opinion, the two technicals for Coalfield is what turned the game around. The game last night was very physical, and it looked to me like the Coalfield girls lost composure when OS kept theirs. I do believe this comes from OS's experience and leadership.

As for the future, the Morgan County Sheriff's better be ready for the next game!! If it's anywhere close to last night, it could get dirty.

You are a person after my heart!!! /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> Hopefully the ploce don't need to be there but..... to be on the safe side I'd say yes simply because some of the uglies on this thread. SIMPLY RIDICULOUS. GUARANTEE you that these post are made by the parents and the examples being set aren't really all that good for thesee kids!!!

  19. What are you even talking about? Was you even at the game. No one cheered when the one girl went down. The ball was pulled out of her hands while she was in the air. She had no base to keep from falling to the floor. When our girls realized it, they held the ball so the refs would stop play instead of trying to score when they had a 5 on 4. No one clapped! Yes Christopher is not a "good" ballplayer she is an excellent player (and I enjoy watching her, except against us), and when she did some things that you rarely see from a girl we were talking about how good she was, but to say it was rude to be happy that she missed a shot or got the ball stolen from her shows your ignorance. Most people don't cheer for the other teams players to all shoot 100%. If that makes me evil, so be it. I thought that was the point of competition.

So for now on, I can only clap when the other team does well, but I need to hold the applause when someone from my team does well. I have had it wrong all these years. I'll be darned. I bet everyone on the bench should play also?

By the way I do hope the young lady is 100% better, she fell pretty hard. Would appreciate that knowledge being passed on.

Midtensportsmoron - I would expect nothing less out of you. The way you get on here and bash fans and kids alike, once again you valdiated that CJED24 post not being worth the keyboard it was typed on by supporting it. If you support it must not be true!

Ok so evidently it was not you that stood up and then when realizing she was hurt sat back down. (Good for you!) The post was not meant to slander those girls on the court in any way. From CR or OS. The entent was the rude adults that did clap and cheer when one of the best players in the state was having a ROUGH night. I was at the game and did see this with my own eyes. I also stated that the girls from CR prob didn't even realize the gravity of the situation (not exactly in those words) neither did the fans when the girl from OS went down. There were people to ask about her and did show alot of concern after the game. Now maybe theyshould go up and introduce themselves to #5 and see she is human and a kid with feelings and I'll bet you that you prob wouldn't be so ugly to a kid on the floor. I will clap for the opposong team when they make a good play and give them credit for it and if I see them afterwards would prob tell them so. What do you think good sportmanship is ? Definately not what was written by these CR fans on this post!!! Every one is entitled to their own opinion and thats mine. You have yours and I prob think its not correct but what the hey? You are from CR and where am I from????? Just a friendly little banter there!!! Don't get the pants in a wad just joking around with you. But seriously i do not think every one should play on the bench. If they aren't good enough to be out thre they need to pick the splinters from their rears. My only concern is let the kids play on the floor and keep the nasty fans out of the mix. You know thekids hear this stuff on th floor!!

  20. My question is to either Coalfield or OS people: Is there any difference in Kayla's play this year as opposed to last year? If so,, of course what... I am going to the OS next Friday night to see them play the former State tourney mainstay team ---Oneida. If Coal field has played them are they any better than last year (Oneida)? I have read where they had coaching problems up there a week or so ago. How will they match up versus Kayla and Co.? Lastly, it appears your game vs. OS was close,,, has Coalfield improved??.. and if so, what are some of the improvements other than maturity? I would like to have some thoughts before I venture over to the Land of OS. Do you anticipate a trip back to Murfreesboro for OS? /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />

Kayla's play is a solid ball players game. She has matured on the floor and her decisions are maybe some smarter.Shes gonna have off games like everyone else. Not every one can put up the talk that she does and come out without feeling it. She has 2-3 people(is still averaging 20+ pts.) on her every game and handles herself accordingly. The rest of the girls on the Oliver Springs team have really stepped up in a challenge thats being made to them by all the people that are not OS fans. Its taking pressure off Kayla also. There are 6 players that can average in double figures and thats what it takes to win a game along with defense. Coalfield lost one player, OS lost 2 players and the difference is Newberry was a player that led and was a sleeper(meaning she produced when she needed to and you could bank on her presence on the floor) OS players had alot of playing time up to being seniors and both were huge contributing factors. Now having said that the Coalfield girls are a well rounded team and you add the Jordan girl in the mix and you come up with a good ball club. Jordan and Christopher are ball players that contribute to a game all the time and its hard to hold them under 10 I don't care who you are. The officials won"t give Kayla a call when she goes in the middle and gets fouled hardly ever. She absolutely has to be mauled in order to get a call. Most of the officials hate to come to OS because of the harassment they get from the fans. I'm sure you can ask any of them about it and get that answer. As far as that game being one sided, believe me, there is no way that it was. Coalfield was giving and getting it. If they had called everything it would have been a 4 hour game!!! It was consistently bad on both sides! I think its goona be a hard row for OS girls to hoe to get to the State Tourney, but the chances are good. Coalfield should prob be there also. That says alot for the East Tennessee area and lets give these atheletes credit where it is due. Keep the trash out of the stands and let the girls play ball abd the coaches coach without people yelling out their names personally. I can understand the student section having a part in it (like them saying every time Kayla got the ball "moma boy") But the fans getting on here and posting like the one did prior to this about the coach being afraid that her daughter was going to get hurt so she should sit her down? Whats that about? I think its a nasty thing to say, and thats my opinion.... I say good luck to 2 of the best teams within 25 miles of each other and hope to see them both in Murfeesboro!!

  21. What are you even talking about? Was you even at the game. No one cheered when the one girl went down. The ball was pulled out of her hands while she was in the air. 22. If OS played at their place they might have a chance of upset but not @ c'range too much talent and the crowd will be a factor although the two gyms are simular at both places crowd noise a factor; lady buffaloes by at least 15 and more if Kayla don't get some help inside.

The crowds really do play a big huge part in how a team plays, especially if they react the way the Clarkrange crowd did at this game. Why would an adult person stand up and clap when a player gets killed inside and then when they realize the the person got hurt, rethink their position? The officials should have control I agree and probably the other girls on the floor that was involved in the mauling didn't even realize what was happening and that OK , but the fans need to be a little kinder to the other people on the floor. There were times when that #5 had the ball and if she did any thing to get a clap out of the adult fans from Clarkrange they would cheer!!! I don't mean for a great play either. The fans delighted in her mishaps and mistakes. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Definately uncool. She's a great player and an even better kid on the floor. She is not cocky, doesn't hurt people on purpose, and tries to do the best she can when she is on the floor. She can never be seen back talking an official either. Although she should not even know what the fans are doing, (we all know she is human and can hear) why can we as adults see a good ball player and at least give them credit for being GOOD? If any of us have played before, we all know when a player is good they are gonna hear trash from peoples mouths, but most of us assume it would be the student section or the kids on the floor. NOT THE CROWD!! I know that most of the OS fans would look at each other and if the post players fron CR did a good job shooting, rebounding, and giving the ball to the pt. guard and she got a good assist, they would say "now that was nice!" I know this because its exactly the way the people around my section reacted to a good team. They moved the ball very well and shot just as good. Its a fans delight to watch a well rounded and good team. Clarkrange is a good team and I'm thinking they will be a finalist in the State Tourney. We all know that crowds are a huge issue when it comes to a team playing well or just plain sucking it up! Its a basketball teams biggest and greatest wishes for a crowd to support them, in a positive way. I hope the Clarkrange crowd will be kinder to the other teams players on the floor, otherwise they just may be voted the suckiest crowd ever !!! /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

  23. QUOTE(taterhead35 @ Mar 23 2007 - 03:45 PM) 826421181[/snapback]I would say that any team that makes it to the Boro is an elite team, dont you think? 28, 25,and 10....add it up. If Gleason plays so weak how come nobody came close to beating them? They had much better games during the season that were nail biters, all from one of the worst schedules, according to OS91. Read OS91's posts and you will see crying and bashing Gleason for the past two weeks. AS far as politics, every individual award depends alot on how one sells theirself, so in my opinion politics does play a role.

OK So he's an OZ fan and one that evidently has a very strong opinion of the team and anything else he wants to comment on (which is his right) but we need to take it easy on each other! Can't we all agree to disagree? By the way you personally can make really sound comments if your not bashed you know? LOL!!
