  1. Congats to Phillip Branham for the masterpiece he layed on what I still think is a good Shelbyville team. He was the best pitcher on the field today. You could see the scouts there to watch Cooper were baffled. Who is this? Why have I not heard of him? When do I take out my Juggs gun? All kidding aside, Phillip looked great, and he stole the show. Shelbyville was off balance the whole game. I don't believe they had a runner reach 2nd base.Total dominance. Great game by a fine young man. Good job Phillip.

Oh yeah, SH hit the ball very well and play solid "D". I enjoyed the show. Good luck this weekend Raiders.

WOW! Good win for the Raiders!! Ive heard a lot about the Cooper kid. You must be playing well to put 9 on him. Branham is a good pitcher, mixes it up well. Page plays Shelbyville today, how did Shelbyville look?

  2. Congrats to Garrett Gross! one error away from a perfect game. East hickman is not the same team as last year. Much improved in all aspects of the game. The kid that threw last night for east was pretty good. Held Page to their lowest run total all year.

  3. Rankings through first 2 weeks

    1. Independence- Winning the Scenic Classic shows this team could be special.

    2. Brentwood- Their trio of solid arms have been solid.

    3. Centennial- Bats have yet to hit up, but pitching has been a surprise

    4. Brentwood Academy- Don't know alot but will be solid throughout the season

    5. Page- Solid coaching, pitching.

    6. Ravenwood- Has struggled, but seem to turn it on into April.

    7. BGA- Young, inexperience team may be solid come May.

    8. Franklin- Struggled, and seems the players are not too fond of the new coaching staff.

    9. Fairview- Bad, just really bad.

    Any opinions?

    1. Independence-Loaded

    2. Brentwood- Good arms

    3. Page- Loaded for only 800 students

    4. Ravenwood-

    5. Brentwood Academy-

    6. Centennial-

    7. BGA-

    8. Franklin- Terrible coaches

    9. Fairview- Bad, just really bad.- agreed

  4. Spring Hill 0

    Independence 5

Spring Hill only had 4 hits and couldn't get anything going. SH hit the ball hard several times but it always seem to be right at the Independence defense. Independence has a solid all around team. They hit the ball well and came up with hits when they needed to. They also took advantage of any SH mistakes. I'm sure the SH players are eager to get back on the field to improve on some things.

Independense is loaded with good arms and very good skill players. Giving up only 5 runs is not bad at all. Who pitched for SH?

  5. Page-6 Marshall- 4

Great ball game! Marshall is better than you would think considering the important players they lost last year. Webb threw great. Gross came in and closed it. The Chapman kid that Marshall brought in relief in the 3rd pithced really well too.

  6. Page vs Marshall Co - Split

Giles Co vs Lewis Co - Giles Sweeps

Hickman Co vs East Hickman - Split

Spring Hill vs Loretto - SH Sweeps

Page vs. Marshall- Page takes 2

    Giles vs. Lewis- Split

    Hickman vs. East- split

SH vs. Loretto- SH takes 2

  7. It was a very good series. Both teams played hard. Game 1 at SH was full of high emotions. SH was playing for Kris Hardison who would be a SR and the starting SS this season but was killed in a car wreck back in September. SH painted a 1 behind the plate and his jersey will be in the dugout each game this season. Before the game all the SH players touched the 1 behind the plate before hitting the field. Another way SH remembered Kris was they played without a SS for the first pitch of the game. After the game all the players huddled around the 1 to do there "Raider Baseball" breakdown. Giles County wanted the game also. The SH/GC series has become a rivalry. It was one of the loudest games of high school baseball I have been around in a long time... not only were the players loud but the fans on both sides were also. It was a great turn out for the game. Both sides were packed with fans. GC didn't lose as many players as I had once thought. They had several key players returning from last season.

Game 1 - GC threw # 34 nicknamed "50". He is a lefty that throws very slow and is hard to hit. SH struggled sitting back and letting the ball travel. Early in the game GC made a few costly errors. One of GC weaknesses is their play in the field. GC is not as solid as they need to be and they really don't have a true SS. They swing the bat pretty good but SH Jake Cartwright and Zack Walton slowed the GC bats to only 1 run. SH put runners in motion and manufactured a few runs early. Late in the game GC threw Foster. He looked pretty good. But it was too little too late... GC couldn't get anything going. Both teams ended the game with 6 hits a piece.

Game 2 - What a wild game. SH and GC traded runs the 1st and 2nd Inning. SH added another in the top of the 3rd. GC tied the score in the bottom of the 5th. The team that made the first big mistake late in the game was going to lose and those mistakes hit GC first. In the top of the 8th SH lead off the inning with a 1B then drew a BB and a HBP. GC made a pitching change that lead to a bases loaded BB to put SH ahead 4-3. SH's next batter hit a hard grounder at the GC SS that he bobbled... trying to make up time to get the out at second he launched the throw into RF. SH scored two more runs to make it 6-3. GC couldn't answer in the bottom of the 8th. Both teams left runners on base and in scoring position throughout the game. There were several hard hit balls but also several slow rollers. The infield at Sam Davis seemed to be very slow. GC threw Bowen 7 1/3 innings and Abernathy 2/3. In my opinion Bowen looked good. Threw his fastball well and is off speed stuff got SH batters out on their front foot. SH threw Bigler (4), Brochu (1), and Walton (3). Bigler pitched well also. He geared up on his fastball when needed to and his breaking ball looked great! SH did make some mistakes behind him that hurt but he stayed the course. Brochu relieved Bigler in the 5th... GC had runners on base... I'm not certain of the situation but did hold GC to 1 run in a very tough spot. Walton looked great again. Walton will be tough to hit... especially in a relief role.

These games were big for SH considering they were without their ace on the mound. Branham had to miss the series due to a death in the family but the other pitchers stepped up and done the job. SH needs to stay the course and swing the bat better but that will come once they get more games under their belts. GC will bounce back. They are a tough team and will make some noise in the district this year for sure. The GC is pitching is solid and will win them some games this year but as a team they need to improve in the field and at bunting so they can manufacturer runs. GC wasn't able to get bunts down in this series. It will be an interesting year for District 10AA.

Great job willie! Sounds like SH really made the 1st game special for the kid who dieds famil y and the team. Very classy!

  8. 8 Innings

    SH Pitching

    Bigler 4

    Brochu 1

    Walton 3 - WP

    GC Pitching

    Bowen 8

Abernathy - Pitched in the 8th. Not sure how many outs there were when he came in if any.

Very exciting game... very exciting series.

    MC sweeps LC

    MC 5

    LC 3

    Loretto and EH split.

    HC and Page?

    Page 19 HC 1

Chad Meiztler gave up 3 hits for Page

  9. Hickman County was much improved as well. While it doesnt show in the score, there over all makeup and attitude was much better than the team they had last year. you can see a lot of improvement. Webb was just too good last night.

  10. 1. Independence

    2. Brentwood

    3. Ravenwood

    4. Brentwood Academy

    5. Page

    6. BGA

    7. Centennial

    8. Franklin

    9. Fairview

Indy and Brentwood are neck and neck for the top spot. Indy has a great pre-season and will have a great season as long as everyone stays healthy. Brentwood has to be concerned about Hillis's arm trouble. If he stays healthy, they have a great chance of overtaking Indy. Ravenwood is a quality team that is starting to build a pretty good tradition for itself. BA lost some key parts to last years team but are well coached and will remain a top tier team. Page has the best young coach in the district and has a great squad that I think will make the state tourney this year.

BGA lost alot and will be in rebuilding mode. Centennial will struggle on the mound and their loss to Page shows some signs of concern. Franklin lost way too much to be competitive this season, and no one has any info on the new coaches. Fairview is Fairview, always has been last always will be.

Feel free to share your opinions as I know some of you will disagree with my assessment.

I agree with all of these except I would put Page above Brentwood Academy. Independence is hands down the most talented team in the county. If they can put their ego's aside and play like a team they will be very successful!

  11. How did Franklin look? No one has given any info on them this year.

Also, what about Centennial? I saw they lost to Page. I had them number 3 in our district.

Centennial was down from the team they had last year. They did not have an answer for Webb and Gross. Webb threw 4 innings and Gross threw 3. Centennial did not have any arms that would concern anyone.
