1. QUOTE(lambert @ Apr 27 2007 - 09:26 AM) 826446725Let me go on record as saying that i am a meigs county supporter to the core, but i do think it is about time for the unthinkable to happen. I posted on here last year that i thought meigs had a good chance to loose to central simply because of the talent difference. In talent i am mostly referring to speed and skill . I think you give credit where credit is due--meigs has owned central for quite a while and that is even more reason to think it has to be getting close for the streak to be broken. ON top of that is the fact that central seems to be headed in the right direction and simply looks to be getting better players than meigs. Dont get me wrong i hope it doesnt happen but i am afraid the time is getting near.

I still think it will have to wait till next year though. Meigs plays Central in Decatur plus Meigs returns a lot.

  2. QUOTE(t-mac @ Apr 26 2007 - 03:02 PM) 826446082Anythings possible!! I think Meigs, Polk, Notre Dame, Howard, and East Ridge all lost their best players. But Howard has a freshman coming in from the middle school. Write this down and quote me, by the time he leaves Howard he will be better than Council. East Ridge lost Bradford Turner, and Meigs and Polk both lost their RB's. One good thing for Howard is that we have recievers and we still have out tailback returning.

Meigs still has all their RBs, lost QB though.

  3. QUOTE(mexican @ Apr 12 2007 - 11:53 AM) 826435889Baker is a good man and a class act. Tyler is an excellent example for all young men. Ryan is a good person as well. Didn't see what happened, just read about it. Seems to me to be blown out of proportion.

    You tell 'em Pablo.

  4. QUOTE(rufus22 @ Apr 11 2007 - 11:05 PM) 826435561AMEN BROTHER PREACH IT, lol. I have done some little league games and I have to agree that the coaches and fans are far worse in these games than any coach or fan in high school. I was doing some games over in Loudon about a month ago and i was doing the coach pitch games. Just to let you know, people call these leagues the "pirahna" leagues, mostly because the coaches and fans will eat you alive, lol. Now these kids were 5 years old, and the sad part was these were travel teams and I'm not just talking about from across Tennessee either, there were teams there from Alabama, Florida, and Kentucky. Does anyone else see whats wrong with this picture? I mean shouldntt 5 year olds be worried with being a 5 year old, instead of being drug around the country to play in a coach pitch tournament? But as I was saying, these coaches and fans act like little Johnny will be playing for the Yankees next week and if you mess up a call then you are doing a major injustice to their kids. Now for any of you out there that havent umped a coach pitch game I will let you know right now, its probably one of the hardest games you will ump because of a few reasons. 1) You are the only ump there and are alone on all calls with no back up 2) Coach pitch has many "special" rules that are so different from the regular rules that if you are a regular high school ump then you will feel like you are in a foreign land 3) The coaches will argue that the sky is green if they get the notion 4) The coaches are just parents that have a kid on the team and maybe they played a little ball "back in the day" and only 1 in 10 actually know the basic rules and they think they know everything there is to know.

Now I'm all for competition and all but some of these kids didnt barely know what was going on, now there were some that knew things about the game that the normal 18 year old wouldnt know about the game, but the vast majority just wanted to have fun and didnt really care who won. I even had one little boy walk by me after the game and asked me if his team won or not cause he truthfully had no clue and he really didnt care. But in my opinion these coaches are taking all the fun out of one of the greatest sports around. Just let the kids play.

But i have strayed away from my original point that Umping in any level is hard, strenuous job that gets little respect from the self proclaimed baseball geniuses that are just players and fans who dont like the so called bad calls that they always seem to get. Now sometimes yes Umps make bad calls, its almost inevitable because noone is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, but maybe the reason your team is losing isn't because the umps are making bad calls, maybe just maybe its because your team isn't that good or they had a bad day that particular game. So lay off the umps cause for one they are underpaid for the job they do and for the crap they put up with on a game to game basis. And as some of the people have already stated "if you havent ever gotten behind the plate and umped then SHUT UP".

Haha gotta love that coach pitch. I would like to one day be certified to do at least middle and maybe high school baseball but till then im stuck in the minors haha. I'll have to agree with you that its tougher than it looks and really, its not like umpires dont have better things to do. I did a tournament last friday from 1 till 8 and at the end of it I was DEAD. The next two days it was fun to see just how far i could walk without complainin about somethin hurtin, of course part of it was my fault for wearin huntin boots but hey, I didnt have any tennis shoes around. Point is there was a million other things I couldve been doing on a Friday that I was off from college but I spent that day watchin about 150 seven and eight year olds run around for seven hours. When i first started doin it i can remember callin three games in a night and gettin paid $30 for that night. I couldve made twice as much in half the time doin somethin else if I wanted to. Umpires aint in it to get rich by any means but hey, it is nice of em to give ya hot dog though. Some places have even got me free water.

  5. If he was called safe whats the point of holdin him down? The ump isn't going to, and appearantly didn't, change his mind. Sit here and tell me that if a kid was on top of you after you just scored you wouldnt get him off you. Five seconds is a long time to just sit there under a catcher while he whines to the umpire about somethin that wont get changed. Anybody that has a pair, as the old coach used to say, would get tired of layin there and get up. Oh yeah don't forget Meigs and Polk dont really like each other already, the fact this game has turned into a rivalry has to have somethin to do with it. I know Tyler pretty well and if it were me, id probably done the same thing. Its not like he threw him off him, kicked him, then said somethin about his Momma. All he did was help himself up cause the catcher obviously wouldnt. You cant expect guys to compete without a little emotion can you?

  6. QUOTE(catsbackr @ Apr 11 2007 - 07:51 AM) 826434620I echo binns response.

Every year, players, coaches and fans complain about calls their teams are getting or not getting or rulings they get or don't get. That's just baseball.

In our association, we meet, starting in January, a minimum of once per week until the season starts to go over rules, situations, etc. Unfortunately, the coaches only meet 1 time at a State required meeting to discuss rules and rule changes.

There is another topic on the baseball board regarding an appeal that was started by a coach. The coach does not understand the appeal process and in the situation he describes, the umpires ruled correctly after his team went through unnecessary motions to appeal. The result is that players, fans and coaches are upset with an umpire for CORRECTLY applying a rule.

Each and every year, there are fewer and fewer people wanting to umpire. Don't criticize unless you're willing to strap on the gear, make the calls and apply the rules. I can forsee in the not too distant future where there will be only one umpire on the field for games due to the lack of umpires.

You fellas think its bad in HS, try umpirin lil league. Haha every time its somethin new, whether one coach gets upset bout callin it a game after the bottom of the fifth with two minutes left and a 20 to 1 chance he's gonna come back and win, or another whos mad because his teams gettin beat bad and we havent run ruled it yet. More fun than an Etch-A-Sketch.

As far as rule interpretations go, nobody knows EVERY SINGLE RULE. Even with the little kids, and it gets even more complicated in HS. If you guys think Umps are in it to get rich then your dumb. No official in the TSSAA gets paid enough to put up with some of the stuff they do. And as far as one Umpire a game, Ive had to do that before and its terible. Its nearly impossible to do.

  7. hey boyd i agree to some degree but we also beat bledsoe 49-7 and upperman beat marion 38-12 not much different than tyners 43-12 over marion but then we turned around and beat upperman at upperman last week 21-3 and we fumbled 7 times i know we cant do that against tyner and win but i am just using that as an example.as far as classification that means nothing that is only calculated by how many students go to that school.that doesnt mean just because u beat a 3a school u beat a better team that means u just beat a school with a higher number of kids in it. :thumb:

McCallie, Howard, and Knox fulton are all good, in some cases great teams in their divisions. I guarentee York couldnt hang with Fulton like Tyner did. Howard and Brainard arent that bad either, both are playoff bound in tough regions.

  8. i am with tyner fan i do not think that tyner will blow them out i personally don think tyner is 40 points better than york on any given night i might be wrong but i do not think so.if tyner had problems wth smashmouth going right at u by boyd york does the same thing.so if it worked for boyd why wouldnt it work by york we have 1 rusher with over a 1,000 yards and another with over 600 yards and another with over 500 yards and u know what all of those yards are right up the middle.so for tyners sake i hope u 2 are right but if they have trouble stopping he run right up the middle watch out.im just sayin.......thats all :thumb:

Tyner had trouble stoppin the run on one night.

  9. As ususal you go off at the mouth without knowing the facts. RT 21 CB Trap I wish you would have learned some lessons in class from your coach. Obviously coaches can't do everything as your wasn't able to teach you to have some dignity and class. THe man worked his tail off and without much help from the system. I am sure Meigs is embarressed to have someone like you claimming to be a fan and former player.

Oh I'm sorry but I left this out earlier. Its not that my coach didnt teach me anything about class. He just taught me too much about sarcasm. (He's liable to get a kick out of that one if he reads it. Dont worry coach, Ive got a plethora of 'em.)

  10. Yea PC does have some amazing athletes.

But you have to point out that was last year and things cna change in a year, just look at Station Camp :thumb: !

Less than a day away, I'll be rooting for Sycamore. Come on War Eagles pull the upset, so my Bison can have the chance at 2 home playoff games. ( I rather not travel to Meigs Co.)

Why not? Its a nice drive, wonderful scenery and all.

Both teams score the same amount of points per game (24). The difference is defense, Sycamore gives up 10 more points per game than Meigs. Also, Sycamore is not accustomed to the playoffs yet. Meigs 28 Sycamore 10.

I'm sorry your right, it was 3-17 under him. My apologies They had enough talent last year to go maybe 4-6, instead they go 1-9. Same story this year. I'm not attackin the mans character, just his production. If you really think consistant 1-9 teams are what Sequoyah needs then by all means send around a petition or somethin too keep him. You have a right.

  12. Obviously Juice, my friend, nobody plays football like Region 4 AAA plays football. That is why they have so many gold balls between them all.

Juice??? What in the world are you talkin about? Do I look like OJ Simpson to you?

I reckon some people are just plain crazy....

  13. :unsure::lol:

There I thought my arguing was over until you had to get on here and single me out of the entire pack. If Meigs was as awesome as you believe then they would be unbeaten as well. They certainly would not have lost to a Class 2A #4 seed in Sweetwater (got shutout 14-0). Your season will end at 9-2 and a first round exit from the playoffs. THAT IS A PROMISE MR. OR MS. GROWN-UP!!!!

I STILL don't understand why your pickin the #4 seed to upset. Not that its impossible, just still cant see your reasons.

  14. I don't know much about Meigs County. Not that teams are inherently better here, but there are plenty of very good football teams around Nashville that Sycamore's region plays each week. I do not think Meigs Co. is going to show Sycamore anything they haven't seen in region play already with their athletes, physical play, or coaching. After playing teams like Pearl Cohn, Station Camp, White House, and the like, the War Eagles have seen just about every style of play and athlete you will see in 3A. They expect to play a good team. I do not believe Sycamore will be intimidated. They are a physical team with 9 seniors starting on offense and 7 on D. It's difficult to determine how regions this far apart will match up because they haven't played common opponents, but I think Sycamore can definitely win this football game no matter where it is. With an extra week off to prepare, I think Sycamore will be ready to get after it.

Does anyone but me not think the extra week of practice cuopled with the LONG bus ride will put Sycamore off rhythm.
