  1. Using process of elimination I would assume (although I hate assuming) that you are referring to the 160lb weight class. Despite where either wrestler attends school, the student athlete on the first team is far superior to the 2nd team. I conclude this by the caliber of competition (both in and off season), watching both wrestle, and just plain common sense.

Admittedly politics plays a role, but the fact is McCallie and Baylor wrestle better competition, compete in the offseason, have better work out partners (especially from a numbers standpoint), and have superior coaching staffs. Facts are facts.

What process of elimination are you using to come up with 160? Is the small school champion a 2 x state champ? I doubt Sutherland had losses in the teens the last few years combined even with their national level competition.

If anything the bias has been for the small school kids in years past. There was one last year that had me shocked, I think they had Michael Murphy on the third team in favor of a small division north Georgia wrestler and I'm not sure who the second teamer was. Take the coach of the year for example. Nothing against Yost or Cleveland but Baylor has beaten them 3-4 years in a row but yet you don't see the Baylor coach winning. ( sorry I forgot his name). I'm sure they do the best they can picking these teams. I'll look up both 152 lbers stats when I get home and see if they had common opponents. This kind of thing happens when you have multiple divisions and a million more in Georgia. It's all hypothetical.

  2. Are there anymore? I think we have a lot of kids that could wrestle at the next level with several that could wrestle at the DI level  or top DII schools. Have any of the following signed?

Ezra Taylor, Binns, Hamilton, Oliver, Kennedy, Sutherland, Seagraves, Kiel Russell, Wesnofske?,

  3. The Bros & a couple more chart/nash Irish could chip in some talent too...

Maybe 3rd place with our talent pool

    1 Blair 283

    2 Wyoming Seminary 269.5

    3 McDonogh 133.5

    4 Malvern Prep 108.5

    5 John Carroll 101.5

    6 Good Counsel 101

    7 Baylor 76.5

What are you even talking about? I don't think that League would allow Tennessee to put an all star team together to face their high school teams.

  4. Hope Sutherland is ok. Tough way to lose by inj default. That kid is as tough as they come. I'm sure Daisy May will have something smart to say . Not sure why that killed wasn't called for stalling?

Man ... What a warrior! Hate it for him! I was so impressed with his toughness this entire tournament fighting through obvious pain.

  5. Keep it up guys!!

Murphy and Seagraves had some studs in the semis!! Wow!

Youthcoach, Blake looked much more aggressive, is his shoulder better?

Parker with big win over a Blair kid! Tennessee kids beating Blair Academy doesn't happen often !

Elkins wrestled great and so did Chalifoux in his loss! Everyone in Tn is proud of you guys

Mike , trying to watch matches on flo. It's hard to keep up with mat assignments. Is Blake hurt, saw he took injury time out in both his matches?

    Kings match was awesome!!

  7. I was talking about the 160# from last year . Patrick Dooley, one of the Simpson nephews.  If his Herpes had shown up one day earlier....he would have never won a state Championship.

Non the less.....if most people will remember before it moved from McKenzie; everyone was pissed about the rigidness of the tournament and the "food Nazis". Champion Wrestlers are usually  creatures of habit and have a routine that is important to them after weigh-ins.

Money forced everyone to break thoughs habits by ethier eating out of a concession stand....not good before a match,  or leave the premises. PS: Money did not go to TSSAA from concedssion stand.

At the AG center, I actually saw one team that had a microwave, lots of friut and cooolers full of fluids and food for their wrestlers and fans.  It was almost like a "tailgate" but with nutrional food and beverages.....oh and the AG center even paid for the electricity to run the microwave.

Sounds like we need to pick our battles.  Reality is, Chattanooga is the least likely facility to be hosting a state tournament.Less then 15 %  of the wrestlers competing come from a 100 mile radius of Chattanooga .  70 % + come from 100 mile radius of middle TN.

My solution:   Go to district format where ALL teams particpate. If  I'm a small school, that may be my goal....to win the district. Top four wrestlers go to Regionals (4 regions) .   Regional boundaries would be decided around (numbers participating in wrestling).  Top Four in Regionals would qualify for the state tournament with a 16 man bracket.  Could be done easily in two days on 4 mats.

Of course, we would only have 14 state champs instead of 52 and not every kid would get a medal.  Also the 3 and 4 time state champs would disapper.

I am scratching my head on your math? I do like your ideas on narrowing the champions down but we all know that's not going to happen. We are about to have more champions in the coming years. Once the privates are all forced into d II they will form a large and small division.

The majority of the wrestling population comes from Chattanooga, Nashville and Knoxville. Its the same distance to Chattanooga from Nashville as it is from Chattanooga to Nashville. Its 70 miles closer  for Knoxville to come to Chattanooga than it is to drive to Franklin. so Chattanooga is bay far more centrally located for the majority of the wrestling fans. If its in Chattanooga Memphis has to drive further but if its in Nashville Upper east Tn has to drive further so it evens out between the two. If your figures were correct on the wrestling population being that large in Nashville then Nashville should be extremely ashamed that there aren't more fans at the tournament. Its astonishing to me that an area with 70% of the wrestling population cant bring more fans than it does. Even with more wrestlers and a girls division being added its not half what was at Mckenzie arena no matter what the Tssaa says. That being said, I don't care if its in Nashville or Chattanooga or Knoxville. It needs to be in a better venue.

  8. PS:  When we say that kids weren't able to compete at the State tournament because of "skin diseases"  you need to look at McCallie, CBHS, Overton, WC, etc, etc.  regional sites)  Most of the ones that Ben oulined were from Chattanooga, so my guess is that those kids are getting it in Chattanooga at their regional tournament and affecting the rest of the state.  I know the 160#  stae champ broke out with severe Hereps 1 day after the state tournament.  As most of us know, it takes 5 - 10 days to inquebate.  It must have come from Chattanooga based on the theory that you all are giving.

There were "NO" kids....I repaeat "NO" kids that did not get to wrestle in the State tournament because they caught a skin infecton during THE STATE tournament.  They came from somewhere else at least 5 days before.  This really makes our wrestling community look illiterate.

The 160# state champ was from Murfreesboro ? How did he catch it in Chattanooga?

Move it to Memphis? While the venue may be awesome I highly doubt you would get the support needed to make it an exciting atmosphere. Make no mistake about it, the number one reason everyone wants it moved is because its not exciting and the kids deserve more. Everyone quotes unsanitary conditions and no showers because they feel that will get it moved quicker but the number 1 reason I hear over and over is it just doesn't seem like a state tournament. That's no knock against the people who donate their time and do an excellent job of running the tournament. its just a fact. The Tssaa's inability to listen or make common sense decisions is baffling to me. Someone stated they haven't heard one kid complain about the state being held there. That's odd because every single kid I have talked to that went to the tournament at Utc has complained that they wish they could have wrestled there instead.

I applaud all the volunteers efforts and even the Tssaa's efforts this year to a certain extent but the bottom line is the tournament just isn't exciting there and not fan friendly from a viewing standpoint. The move to put all four mats in the center was awful. The majority of the seating is in the bowl area of the far right arena. With the girls being added at the same time ( to give the impression there are more people there for the finals) there was limited seating in front of the mats to actually see our wrestlers. There was virtually no seating on the other side of the arena beside the mats so you had 4 groups fighting over the one good side you could actually see from. Then to top it off they put the scorers tables and clocks right in the way of the one area of seating you could see from. Could they not have moved the tables and clocks to the side of the mats or moved them back so people could see over them? I know it was suggested on here multiple times prior to the tournament and I know of one parent who went down there and brought it up before the finals but nothing was done about it. If it cant be ran in a manner that is exciting for the kids and parents/fans then something needs to be done. We have one of the worst state tournaments in the country on all aspects. The tournament can be ran on 8 mats easily in a more exciting venue. Move the girls somewhere else if you have to or back to another time slot. Other sports don't have to play the girls and guys at the same time right next to each other. It was all an attempt to make the finals seem more crowded and all it did was take up the few good seats available.

  9. I did one of these for an office football pool.

    14. Debien 132

    13. Somomon 182

    12. Kennedy 170

    11. Navaro 113

    10. Russell 195

    9. Taylor  138

    8. Hicks 106

    7. Boykin- Hvy

    6. Binns- 152

    5. Garrison 160

    4. Landers- 126

    3. Russo-145

    2. Kramer 220

    1. Blansit 120

  10. If McCallie has everyone back I think this match is much closer than people realize. I think they match up well with Baylor and if a few things go right they could pull off the upset.

Next weekend is the state duals not the individual regionals.

  11. True dat! But SD lost in all 3 spots (132, 220, HWT) giving up 18 in those 3 spots, so don't count make the reservations just yet. I know they are down after the Bradley match, but look for these guys to come out fighting. Go Trojans!

Soddy won 7-4 at 132 Mclure vs Blansit so that would be a spot Cleveland could potentially have a 9 pt swing.

That being said, it appears both teams line ups have changed since then.

Cleveland also forfeited at 120 so if they can get someone in that weight class that would be another spot to gain some points.

It looks like in the last dual meet Russo wrestled 152 and Holcomb wrestled 145 and Houser was at 138. They have all gone down a weight now which is an opportunity for them to gain some points if  Russo can beat Taylor.I would think Holcumb would pin at 138 and Houser may be able to not give up as many bonus at 132. The potential to make up some ground in those three weights is there. It also appears Cleveland has dropped  their 113 down to 106 so that may be a spot for them to gain some ground. This match will be much closer than I thought after looking at it. I think Cleveland has the edge but if Soddy wrestles their best they might have a chance.

  12. True dat! But SD lost in all 3 spots (132, 220, HWT) giving up 18 in those 3 spots, so don't count make the reservations just yet. I know they are down after the Bradley match, but look for these guys to come out fighting. Go Trojans!

Interesting.. Ill try to find the results of that match. I may need to rethink this match up, I was just going by the results of Soddy vs Bradley match.

  13. Cleveland has to get past Soddy Daisy first. They beat Soddy Daisy 39-30 in Dec. Hard to beat a team twice.

I don't think it will be close at all. Im sure Cleveland will forfeit all the weights once they get far enough ahead to avoid injury before the finals match.
