1. QUOTE(GeorgeW @ May 25 2007 - 11:48 AM) 826466921GeorgeW wants to know if anyone has seen any college scouts at the spring fling. where were they from and who were they looking at?

some junior colleges were there earlier in week at AAA at Oakland. columbia state, vol state, jr. college in florida and oh yea, lambuth university

  2. QUOTE(davidlimbaugh @ May 24 2007 - 12:56 PM) 826466061I am familiar with AAA. Take Clarksville this year for example. They play a great 9 inning game

with Smyrna on a Monday night - 0-0 thru 8 - and lose 1-0 in 9 innings. And BANG! their season is over.

What is to say that Clarksville's #2 and #3 and even #4 may be better than the other 3 teams in that

region and they may have been able to battle back from the loser's bracket and win their way to Spring Fling?

and be more representative with a deeper pitching staff than Smyrna? We will never know.

How many teams don't make it to Spring Fling every year that could if the post-season was more conducive to getting the best 'team' their instead of the team with the best #1's ??? See what I mean?

What makes you think Clarksville could have beaten Smyrna in a best of 3 series. Smyrna's # 2 had a better record than their #1 this season. He was undefeated......

  3. QUOTE(NEWSTANG @ May 2 2007 - 02:34 PM) 826450166Hope to see some of those really good JC's this weekend at Columbia St. Should be some great ballgames.

what were the results of the toruney in columbia last weekend and i thought the finals were Wed.?

  4. QUOTE(BearsTurn @ May 9 2007 - 10:38 PM) 826456056Bears had two big HR's by Taylor Hill and Ryan Overstreet...Those two shots helped put MJ up 4-0 early, but Smyrna fought back and made it a close game! Congrats MJ District Tourny Champs 2 Years in a Row....Keep Rollin'

Heres who was on the mound:

For Smyrna Edgerton started it off, with #9 finishing.

MJ started Dustin Murphy and BJ Boston came in to shut the door.

Smyrna...hope to see you guys next Wednesday for the Region Championship!

Good Luck to you guys too. Hope to see you next Wed.

  5. QUOTE(In10city @ Apr 30 2007 - 11:39 PM) 826448854Congrats to Smyrna! Ya'll have had a great season!!! (Are Districts @ Smyrna then?)

And one other question, are the "Dogpound Dads" the fathers of seniors?

    Just hoping, I mean wondering...

No they are mostly junior dads and guess what? You get to hear from them again next year. So get use to the new dog pound section at Smyrna High.

  6. QUOTE(utcgolf @ May 1 2007 - 01:02 PM) 826449205This is the first year for the "Dogpound". It is a great group of Dads that decided to have some fun watching thier sons win or lose. I will have to admit ... it is more fun when they win. The team LOVES it!!

You guys just hate it because we are winning, bet you can find something wrong with every team you play if you look hard enough.

Let the old men have thier fun!!

    AMEN!!!

  7. QUOTE(irecnso @ May 1 2007 - 11:46 AM) 826449124"Class" and Smyrna are not associated with each other

QUOTE(thevet10 @ May 1 2007 - 12:20 PM) 826449155first of all where were Smyna's "Dogpound" last year......that what i thought there was none...the parents are just excited because for once in their lives their kids are doing well..(if it wasn't for Grey they wouldn't be even half as good). So ther so called dogpound is the most rediculous things i ever ever heard of and seen. Congrats on 9AAA this year Smyrna but good luck in the district, region, and state when u can't use Grey once a week for big games and use your other pitchers for the others. Because your others pitchers aren't good enough to get the job done.

the dog pound may be a little ridiculous at times, but sounds like some teams are jealous they don't have the following and support of fans. everybody wants to cheer on their team especially when they have had success this year. some people may not feel comfortable cheering their team on and some do. nothing seems wrong about cheering your team on. I haven''t heard anyone say that they get on other teama and players, maybe they have been on the umpire alittle but no comments like what was mentioned. funny how things get stretched. you just have to see them and hear for yourself. judge for yourself. just some dads and students who love their dogs and want them to know it.

  8. QUOTE(Winners Inc @ Apr 27 2007 - 11:26 AM) 826446820Ok... I'm not all about making sure every high school player is "glorified" through being in the headlines in the paper, but this is the last year that many of these seniors will have the chance to be included in something huge in their lives. It's sad that most of them will walk away from their senior year without one article in the paper about them or their team's SUCCESS. Yes, that's right, some teams in this district have success other than Oakland. I'm not taking anything away from Oakland. In fact, not even they get a lot of publicity. But I can't recall one time that Siegel or Blackman, who are two very good teams in this district, had stories in the paper about phenomenal games, such as the Siegel/Blackman game at Siegel, or the amazing Siegel/Cookeville comeback in the seventh inning this past Tuesday. Stories like that belong in the paper. Reading about the greatest game in the world in the greatest town in the world where the greatest coaches and players in high school baseball in the world are makes everyone in Murfreesboro a little more excited about what's going on in these kids' lives as they prosper in athletics. I don't guess there's anything to do now. I mean, we're almost done with the season. I just miss the good ole days when I could go to the market on the corner and pick up a $.50 paper and read about the progress the players and teams are making in this town.

I agree with it all, I can remember when I was in high school there was more sports and school coverage. We would complain because the murfreesboro schools got more publicity than the schools on the other end of the county, but you can't find any spring sports at all hardly. Now football seems to get more and you might find a M'boro basketball score or highlights every now and then. What about the spring sports?

  9. QUOTE(yeah2chea @ Apr 25 2007 - 01:15 PM) 826445119there was only a few wild breaking pitches that i saw.....he had 7 strike out in 3 1/3 innings.4 or 5 were curves that he threw in the dirt that they swung at.and the vol state scout had hastings around 86 consistently.and mtsu had him around 87-88 against cascade not to long ago.theres no way he was throwin 78-81 he only gave up two hits...smyrna was so far behind his pitches and couldnt catch up to him, especiallly when he struck out the side in the sixth.

Of course he struck out the side in the 6th, He was pitching to the bottom of the line-up. They don't get many hits anyway. They either walk or strikeout. If you can throw strikes you will get them out anyway. He also struck two of those guys out in the 4th also. In the 5th inning who scored 2 runs? Did anybody score on Eggerton after the second? Who had Eggerton signed with anyway?

kittyfan you sure seem to know too much about smyrna to be a patriot alumni or fan???? ive seen your other comments. You have more to say about smyrna than oakland.

  11. QUOTE(Live4FridayNite615 @ Apr 9 2007 - 10:30 PM) 826433612Don't get me wrong Beech has some hitters but its really hard with Gray on the mound to show off what you have.. Great Job tonight guys Egerton way to come in and MOW the DOWN..(other than gizzard???)

Heard if the catcher Swider had made the throw to first on the strike out of first batter, they would not have had to face gizzard??? the inning would have been over by then. Why doesn't Smyrna catch Pack, I hear he is a much better catcher but hasn't been given the chance or does the coaches even know he can catch? I've seen him in summer ball and he is a great catcher.

  12. QUOTE(Live4FridayNite615 @ Apr 1 2007 - 07:38 PM) 826427808Well if your talking about a single player Timothy Egerton the SS for Smyrna has 6 Hr's

Make it 7 now after Brentwood game tonight.

  13. QUOTE(davidlimbaugh @ Mar 30 2007 - 06:41 PM) 826426763Right now in the top of the 6th a great game is going on with Bartlett currently leading Farragut 3-1. Justin Wright of Bartlett had a perfect game going into the 4th until a squibber down the first base line ended it. He retired the first 10 batters.

  14. QUOTE(greenwheel @ Mar 28 2007 - 05:03 PM) 826425074Sure it does.

I know it does. Booster parent goes in a tells coach we may be moving. So our son can get more playing time. This parent has held office for a few years and this is second son, next district tournament game, guess who was in the starting line-up and already has several errors this year. Help us.

  15. QUOTE(NOTHIN THRU @ Mar 29 2007 - 01:07 PM) 826425864I'm moving to Columbia!

Just what ever you do stay away from Smyrna. Team has good talent and it is going to be interesting to see how the coach blows things for them. So whatever you do don't move to Smyrna for the coach unless you want the position of coach, then come on.

  16. QUOTE(columbiaguy @ Mar 28 2007 - 08:45 AM) 826424689What makes you think they should have beat Columbia. That's not a biased opinion at all I am sure.

I hear they had pitched there aces in Courier Classic and were letting the aces rest. Columbia was probably lucky they caught them after a tournament weekend. It would've been a different story if you had seen their ace. I hear that Gray kid is awlfully tough. So feel lucky you didn't have to face him and you probably won't ever since your not in the same district are you? If you are my bad?
