  1. Derrick, and Wilkerson had this program headed in the right direction. From being a 0-10 team then go 6-4, 9-2, 9-2 for his first 3 years isnt too bad. But good ole' "Mcminn Central Politics" made them Both run out of town for better jobs. I dont blame them one bit. Look at all these Monday morning quarterback coaches on here bashing goodin, BEHIND AN ALIAS at that. I wanted to come back to Central and coach but after reading all this stuff on here it makes me want to stay away too! Even when Derrick was doing nothing but winning, there was still pages after pages of what he needs to do, and what he is doing wrong. I'm glad he got a killer job opportunity and took advantage of it, along with Wilkerson. IMO he should have got the head coaching job to begin with after Derrick left, but thats a whole different topic. He is coaching college football now. Until Central gets rid of the "good ole boy" politics they will continue to struggle until they find a proven coach that they will let run his system instead of changing coaches every couple years!

    Canadian,

Coach Derrick had the program running in the right direction. I was just one of his assistants that loved my job and worked hard. You should go back to chs as a coach and try to help the programs out. CHS is a good job but football is not as important as a lot of people think it is or as important as it once was. I love CHS but some stuff will never change and that will hold this program back for years. Baseball and basketball have figured it out but the football community is still blind to the facts. All the tops sports programs have Great feeder programs in today's game. Look at Alcoa, Maryville, Polk, CHS women's bball and baseball...etc. I can go on and on. Everybody likes to point back to the old days when Etowah and Englewood both had separate teams and CHS was still good. TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!!! As they say when in Rome do as the Romans. Look around at all the successful programs around East TN and it’s easy to see what CHS football is missing. Coach Goodin is just the figure head that will receive most of the blame as all head coaches do. Some folks get on these msg boards but don’t have a clue what really goes on at CHS!!!

  2. Metting with school officials will get no one anywhere in this system especially this School.

I do not lay blame on the Coaches or Kids. Look back at the Admin! If the ole saying is true that chit runs down hill, then go back to the top. The AD and PRIN. Should they not be held accountable for their actions. How many total Coaches has Central gone thru over the past 7 years...Head, Asst. and Volunteer. It might reflect back to the admin not sure they are capable of making just decisions.

Hole everyone accountable for their actions/decisions.

The Coaches now know the game of football, maybe not granted with the neccessary tools, but with some hard work and determination some success can be achieved no matter how great or small.

I believe they have already scored more points than all of last season, so is this not a step in the right direction.

too much complexity at Central....all used to being the ol days and ways....new blood to revive the veins and push out those who have been there too long just sucking the marrow from the bones.

Just my opinoin and Im sticking to it.

  3. Ok Ok.Since everyone on here thinks this coaching staff is so great, I will make a new prediction.Central wins the rest of the games this season and makes the playoffs, and go on to win the state championship.Goodin wins coach of the year, and 7 players make all-state and go on to D-1 schools.Everything is great and central wins 7 state championships in a row.Is this the lie that everyone wants to hear,If you buy any of this then I have ocean front in englewood that I will sell you.Come on guys,Central has major problems and it all starts with the head coach.

Problems at chs go beyond the HEAD COACH!!!!!!!!! It will take a special person to have a winning program there every year.

  4. The question at hand is Coach or Kids?? As with most things the answer probably lies somewhere in the middle. You cannot expect to compete in the game of football if you are outweighed on the O-line 20lbs per man. A player can play as hard as he can but in the game of football the guy that is playing just as hard with the 20 lb advantage is going to win EVERYTIME. Go back to the last long losing streak that central had in the early 2000's. Their linemen were tiny and the team couldn't compete. Futhermore, if you think central has good athletes, then you are not looking at their personnel objectively. It's not a knock on the kids at all it is a simple fact. They have no athletes.

The question the coach has to answer is how to fix the current situation. Does he need to hit the halls and try to talk more kids into playing??? Football takes dedication year around, and if these "players" that aren't playing truley in their heart wanted to play, they would be out there. I also find it ridiculous for someone to question a coaches choice of words as a reason the team is succeeding or not succeeding. Canadian is spot on this one. Go to college and play a sport and you will think your first name is a cuss word if you go to some schools.

Maybe its not the kids or the coach, maybe its the parents. You can get on here and read excuse after excuse from central fans. When little johnny goes home and hears mom and dad blaming everyone in the world then how is the player supposed to think any different???? Even former players get on here and try to justify quitting. justification = excuse and EXCUSES ARE FOR LOSERS.

The central program will get turned around when the parents, players, and coaches ALL take RESPONSIBILITY for making the program a success.

I agree with you. The central program will get turned around when everybody buys into the same thing. It will never work when you have two cities pulling in two different directions

  5. i just love the way some of you guys on here have excuses for everything about the central football team.bottom line guys, they have NO heart,NO desire.it all starts with coaching.central has about three coaches that halfway know what they are doing.some of them are a big joke.cody goodin is the biggest joke of all!

It must be a new Cody Goodin in town

  6. The talent pool at Meigs isn't down the talent at the head coach position was down. The sophomore class is as good as any in the past they just need a coach that can get them to play hard and fast and at a high level. Eller never took charge of the that team that's why they had a bad season, no unity among the coachs is what killed them last year not the lack of talent.

So does this mean that meigs has more talent now than it did when they went to the state in the 90's..if this sophomore class is better than Tyrone Jenkins and Brian Peck and that bunch watch out for them next year. If that is the case as you have stated i hope they get the right coach in their to lead these young men. I'm not a meigs fan but they have a good football tradition and i hope they can get things turned around.

  7. This job will not be a quick fix, so whoever they hire will have to be given a few years. So I do not think that getting tenure would be a problem. If that is the issue they might as well drop football cause what are the chances of bringing someone in that is tenured.

I am just saying that Jason would be a good hire but if they are looking for a guy tenured in Meigs county school systems then I guess he is not a good hire.

  8. Jason Howard would be an excellent choice. It would be hard to pull him away from the head bball coaching job at mcminn, I agree but I think he is the man for the job. He is a Meigs Co Legend. He knows football/baseball and would be a hard worker that would be at the school as long as they would have him. This late in the year it would be hard to find anybody else as good as him to take the job.Cause i heard they want to hire somebody not on the staff now. But could he do spring ball and finish baseball at mcminn

  9. Here are some names on the rumor mill............. Spencer Riley-former UT player and recommended by Jeff Smith(former meigs grad and UT, pro player). Brad Bennett- Current Mcminn Defensive Coordinator, Mike Martin-former Meigs coach(probably wont come because of money), Ricky Holliday-current meigs defensive Coordinator, Matt Hampton-former Meigs Asst and current Rhea Co Asst., Clint Baker-former Meigs Head Coach and current principal( School boards always frown on administrators being coaches) but i think with his son coming up in a few years he would think about it. In my opinion, He is one the best coaches to ever coach at meigs, plus he is a good man.

wow...some of the names on this list...wow is all i can say

Good luck to meigs co on the coaching search

  10. Anybody that watched that game and was watching the player that got the T knows what she did. After the foul was called she took a cheap shot at one of the McMinn Central players. She hit the other player in the stomach area. I mean the refs were not great but i don't see how you guys think that was not worth a T. Let me guess you also think its ok to push a girl from behind ( cause i heard a lot for fans saying that is not an intentional foul) lets not forget it was basketball and not football

  11. More information please?

Is this going to be like a combine? I mean what's going to go on? Are you doing mainly drills?

Their will be drills and fundamental work for everyone, but the high school kids will get a chance to do drills in front of the college coaches kind of like a combine.

you can register at cleveland high at 7 a.m. on saturday morning june 20th.
