  1. From the score, it looks like Cheatham really battled the first place Lady Indians on Friday. Harpeth won 9-8.

I wasn't at the game, but I know that the conditions (rain, field) were horrible and it was a crazy situation. The Lady Indians did well to escape under the circumstances, but they are a good team. Player to watch: second baseman Melody Christian.

  2. Who Will be the contenders in All districts?

:thumb: Don't know much about other regions, but in District 12AA, I understand McNairy will return everybody and will be very tough.

In District 11AA, Harpeth is very strong again. Mendenhall and Richardson are back as seniors, with Flippo back as a junior (ALL GREAT BALL HANDLERS AND SHOOTERS). Mitchell at 6' will be a tough post as a sophomore with district and region tourney game experience. Two other 6' posts will return, too (sophomore and junior). Harpeth is the favorite for winning it all in District 11AA again next year.

  3. This is not a situation unique to private schools. This is the second year in a row that Harpeth has had to find a close gym that will seat what the TSSAA requires. Last year they played sub-state at Fairview and this year its at Creek Wood. I've heard the plan is for Harpeth to add more seats to fit the minimum requirements this summer. Cheatham is a poor county (or let me re-phrase: won't spend money on the schools) and they deal with this stuff all the time. The TSSAA needs to wake up and stop punishing small, under-funded schools. Let them have home court advantage --- they earned it.

  4. As far as the McNairy fan crying about the horrible calls, we all got them. The Harpeth/Chester Co. game was all for Chester. The Liberty and McNairy games were bad both ways, except the Harpeth fan was right that Harpeth got lots of bad calls in the first half. Despite the refs, Harpeth fought it's way through the tough region to prevail. Mendenhall should have been named MVP for the tourney, but a true team effort won the games. The Lady Indians showed what they are really made of. Another thread talked about Harpeth's downfall being disciplined, private schools like Ezell/FRA, but I think McNairy/Chester Co/Liberty would attest to the fact that when the chips are down, Harpeth plays like a winner.

    GO, LADY INDIANS! :P

  5. So...after the 6AA Region Championship game in Lexington, the team trophies were given, the All Region tourney players were honored, but no MVP plaque was given. WHY NOT?????? Hands down, the MVP was Mandy Mendenhall for Harpeth that put 81 total points (3 games) on the defending State Champs, McNairy, and Liberty.

Congratulations, Mandy. You're MVP in my book. :P

  6. Outside of one post, no one seems to thin Ezell-Harding will be much of a threat. I'm just curious how you can count out a team that only has 2 losses all season. I also say that Harpeth is a threat, great shooters, incredible D.

Hope you're right about Harpeth, NCS. This seems to be their year, but anything can happen on any night...that's why they play the games!

    GO LADY INDIANS!

  7. Irate fans :thumb: Now, Why would the fans be irate? :D

Catch 22!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm just really concerned about the players. Our team was out in the 1st game of district. During the season our team would have been comical if it wasn't so sad. Broken wrist (out for season), dislocated shoulder (out for season), torn ACL (out for season) and many bloody noses, black eyes and bruises.

Exactly. I was being facetious about the irate fans. Wonder why they are so irate? We're not all crazy...This is a real problem; a safety issue. There's also the issue of bad officiating affecting the outcome of the game and it being unfair for some teams. Especially this time of year, let's get the best OBJECTIVE officials on the court.

  8. The District tournaments are, for the most part, useless. They can generally weed out the weak sisters, and make a lot of money, but that's it. Most of the time, the winner of the district tournament does not advance to even the sub-state in a balanced league. William Blount beat Farragut and Heritage last week, and they are now done while Farragut and Heritage are still competing. Powell won their district last week, but they only have one more game as Heritage will kill them. Except for the trophies, the reward for the tournament champions in the district is meaningless.

Amen! This has been discussed on another thread and it is time to put an end to the district tournament being the be all-end all for a team and the regular season counting for nothing but seeding for the tourny.

  9. From what I have witnessed, all season, the girls need to dress out as if it were a football game. I can hear your frustration and I understand it. I hope someone can do something about the situation. The TSSAA is supposed to be keeping the children from being exploited, yet it seems that they are the ones responsible for the exploitation.

This really is a problem and I totally agree about suiting up for a football. THIS IS NOT SOUR GRAPES on my part because Harpeth won its last two games at Lexington, but the atrocious calls against us were blatant; the local girls could do no wrong and the "out-of-towners" could not do anything right...except when they called the occasional foul in our favor so that it wouldn't be COMPLETELY obvious.

In the Harpeth-Chester Co. game, Bianca walked obviously 4 times with 3 refs looking at her and nothing was called. She had very few fouls called against her but LOTS of her points were from the free throw line. Harpeth had to do nothing but breathe in her direction and the whistle was blowing.

I witnessed the McNairy-South Side game and #25 for McNairy totally had her way under the basket ---charging and bulldozing and was never called.

Something has got to be done, but according to former refs and coaches on similar threads I've read recently, all the good refs are at the college level and the irate fans in the stands are to blame. ;)

  10. Lets do away with the whole district tournament, and at the end of the year look at the district standings and let the top 4 teams go to region, and lets do away with substate, and only take the region winners to state. or you can take the winner and the loser of each region and take them to the 'boro

I agree for the most part. I think the top 2 (from regular season) district teams should go to Regions (a much smaller tournament) and then on to Substate and State. The way it is set up now, the regular season means nothing but district tourny seeding. Why should 1 lousy game ruin a great season?

  11. With technology moving ahead, the officials might one day get a DVD of the games to take home with them. Even if it's the last two quarters of the girls and the first two quarters of the boys -- take the thing home, plop it in the machine and "EVALUATE YOURSELF". Do these birds ever look at film of themselves in action? That's how players and coaches improve, looking at film. The eye in the sky doesn't lie. If they'd look at themselves in action they'd see what we're up in arms about.

Great post. Self-evaluation would have to be required, though. The attitude of most of the bad ones seems to be that they are always right and no one can convince them otherwise.

  12. Congrats to the Tigerettes....but, I don't like to see a team like Cheatham that was solid #2 in the district out of post-season play. I feel that the top 2 in the district regular season should play for the district championship.

District Tournaments really make the regular season nothing but seeding for the district tournament. I think the top 2...or 4 from the district should go to Regions...skip the district tourny. Anyone else agree???

  13. I need other parents's opinopns. I was at a game last night and during a timeout by the home team, I heard the coach yelling vulgarities at a 16 year old kid. I am not this child's parent so i realy cant complain much about him yelling at a kid. What i am complaining about is the fact that he yelled it on the court in front of the visiting teams fans. What kind of example does that set not only for our guests but also for the kids. I would like to point out that these were not "everyday" vulgarities. These had the "F" word and the "P" word. Is a coach allowed to use this language in a classroom setting? If all students (including players) that attend a game have to abide by school policies then why do the coaches get to break theirs?

Am i being overly critical, or do i have a right to be angry?

This is absolutely unacceptable and I agree with the thought that it is a failure on the administration's part if they allow this to go on. I also agree that he should have been T'd up by the official. As a parent, I would have to take some action after the game.

  14. Yea of course, I was going to say somebody from fairview is Brison the one with red hair, because I woud say her or the post. But I still think that Mendenhall was better no offense intended.

Who were some good freshmen this year. I know Mitchell from Harpeth was one without a doubt, I really dont know any more, wasnt their one from Cheatham that starts?

Who are the freshmen to watch in this district? I think there are several, but want to know what everyone thinks.
