  1.

    That's my $0.02 worth.

KWC, that was very eloquently put, but if I may add a few things into this equation and please don't take this as any disrespect towards you:

-It has been two seasons and things are not looking up.

-The young men were not as well prepared as they should have been and actually should have been much more competitive than they were.

-The coaches are fine men and yes they do have familes. This causes me much concern during this time and I truly want the best for all concerned; young men, coaches and the program.

I hope this helps others to better understand the situation. In a perfect world we would not have to be discussing this type of issue, but we don't live in perfect world. Yes we do take things like this much more seriously than we should and we should relax and enjoy what we have.

I hope to meet you at one of the upcoming play-off games, as I have always found your post to be informed and positive. Two quality attributes that I like in people that I enjoy being around.

  2. What has happend to Briarcrest, as an alumni and former player on 2004 State AA Champs what the heck is going on?

They have lost approximately 20 kids since the beginning of the year, injured, quit or have moved to other schools. They had to move up with the big boys, AAA, and some other reasons that I would like to discuss, but out of respect for the coaches and the kids would rather not.

  3. I agree it should be. But I am sure that there would be no way possible for a city the size of Memphis to be able to have an ambulance at every high school football game and have enough for emergencies else where.

I sure hope this young man will be ok. Does anyone have an update on him?

I will be at Baptist hospital in Memphis all day Tuesday and if he has not gone home yet, please let me know and I will stop by and check on him.

    Thanks

  4. I read in the stats from the game last night that the game was called half way through the 3rd quarter because a BA player broke his leg. Who got hurt? Does anyone know how it happened (offensive/defensive, etc)?

I believe the young man's name was Terrance Scott. He was to have surgery last night to repair the leg. One of the Briarcrest boy's got blocked and he accidentally stepped on his lower leg. I will try to find out more and let you know.

  5. Briarcrest is an embarrassment to div II AAA and should have never been put in that division. When they won their state title they did so in the weak AA conference. Maybe Briarcrest should go find some more "student" athletes from the inner city to help out there program since it seemed to work the first time.

Hey smart guy, Briarcrest missed the enrollment quota by roughly 25 kids and had no choice whether they could stay put or move up. You can thank/hate Harding and St. Benedict as the votes that help put them there two years. But as your name so clearly states, things for you AT A GLANCE. By the way how many state title rings have you got, no matter what the division it is still an accomplishment to be proud of.

  6. Ouch, that was a low blow. Maniack 30, I have nothing against those schools, I was just defending our position as a legitamate league. As far as us not making it into the playoffs, there are 6 good teams competing for 4 playoff spots. We get some of the best talent in the state. Regretfully, we are STILL going through a coaching transition.

lasal200 Not trying to make a low blow, I certainly understand the coaching transition thing and wish you and your team the best of luck the remainder of the year.

  7. maniack...D-II and D-I are both totally different animals...you have a total of 7 or 8 teams in the entire state that are eligible for the state championship, but in 5A there are a total of 61 teams trying to achieve the same goal...you tell me who has better chances. so dont go pound on a team in 5A with no state championships b/c there are 60 other teams looking to knock them off. especially when you only have 7 or 8 total teams in your entire division (and when bcs and ecs both won their championships in DII-AA).

I certainly appreciate the rough road that the Memphis teams must go thru to get to the play-offs and especially the 5A & 4A Regions. I live in Memphis and graduated from Wooddale back in the 70's, so I still make many games around town. But before you throw stones as did the previous post make sure you have your house in order. I pull for anyone from the West side of the state. Good luck for the remainder of the season because I would like to see John/Coach get a State Championship this season for his retirement.

  8. CBHSfootball60, I see that you are a purple wave fan. First, what is it about your league that says consistant. YOur state champion team (MUS) has only been good within the last 2 years, I can recently remember my WHitehaven team just manhandling MUS when we played them (ex. Bridges Classic) two or three years straight. Second, ECS and Briarcrest are very much averge or below average. Briarcrest suffers a defeat every time they are in the classic. The only teams that have been CONSISTANTLY good are Brentwood Ac., MBA, and your team CBHS. I have seen CBHS play this year, and I have seen Wooddale, WHite STation, and G-town play this year. I can honestly say that CBHS can NOT beat any of the three. I can say that with confidence. I have said this and I will say this again, if you are not South Panola or HOOVER, Ala. you will not come in and dominate year in and year out. THis league's coaching will not allow it. Also, what is with the private schools and their playoff system-Come to 5A and get taught a lesson on playoff competion.

lasal2000 before you start banging on BCS and ECS, how many state titles you got at Whitehaven in football? Now if you have issue's with someone, take it up with them, I don't see anyone on this board banging on the very average program at Whitehaven that has not gone to the play-offs in how many years?

  9. As per the Commercial Appeal's 'Perp Insider' section of the Tuesday, September 12 publication.

Kudo's to Deangelo and Antonio for their respective performances. I will try to remember to post this each week throughout the season.

  10. hespinnedref, I just got one big word for you TAXES. Ever heard of them. Besides that a lot of schools require students to pay for books now too. Also, you have to go to the public school you are zoned for and it is illegal to recruit outside of the students zoned for your school. Your post made absolutely no since at all.

You can start with the Memphis jokes, I have heard most of them, but illegal or not recruiting is an art form in Memphis. Maybe not in wrestling so much, but basketball and football it happens every year.

  11. Sorry MANIACK 30, Not trying to be negative, just hate the differance between the to tourneys. Miss the days of the best meets the best.

But after watching 2 days of battles in region 2 to see who gets the opportunity to go to state out of 20 teams it just struck me wrong to see the DII brackets.

You are right it is "you would be glad to have that many more kids into wrestling than have them out on the streets. I am just glad that my son is into wrestling like I was over 25 years ago."

I am humbled by your words.

But if your from our great state, then U must miss the pre-split days!

No need to worry, and I do remember the old days, I was public school, but not near good enough to get the chance to wrestle at the State level. This is my son's 1st year to wrestle, he is a junior and I am glad that he is making the effort and learning many life lessons along the way. As has been spoken many times on this board, he is learning that things in life are not always easy and the harder you work, the luckier you get. Wrestling has been nothing, but a real positive experience for him and he has met some really good kids, both DI and DII, that he may never have had the opportunity to meet. Football is his sport and this is only making him better, thanks for the on-going support of the great sport of wrestling.

  12. M.B. why must you be so negative on this topic, it appears that if you were the wrestling fan that you appear to be that you would be glad to have that many more kids into wrestling than have them out on the streets. I am just glad that my son is into wrestling like I was over 25 years ago.
