1. QUOTE(CoachforLife @ Mar 21 2007 - 12:43 PM) 826419475More questions:

Some of the smaller schools have 8th graders playing with their varsity. My question is are you expected to count potential Varsity players toward the 50% rule for next season? An example would be a 14U team containing 4 girls who are currently seventh graders, but intend on trying out for the varsity team next season as eighth graders and two 8th graders who are currently on the varsity team? You could potentially have a total of six varsity players for the upcoming season together. There is no way of knowing how many of them, if any, will make the team, so I'm assuming this rule only applies to girls who have already made the Varsity team in the past.

The way I read it is that the 50 percent rule does apply to basketball also while school is still in session. It does not affect summer softball..just fall softball after school goes back in session. AAU basketball cannot practice with more than 3 players off the same hs team until school is out for the summer.....same goes for softball and baseball...

  2. QUOTE(CREE @ Mar 19 2007 - 10:55 AM) 826417536Will someone please tell me why McMinn Co. High School does not participate in this tourn.? Instead they travel to Hendersonville to play in a tourn. Doesn't make too much sense.

That is a wonderful question. They have been asked over and over to come play in it but seems they would rather go to Hendersonville.

  3. QUOTE(jhoutsider @ Mar 18 2007 - 08:16 PM) 826416797with one pitcher its tough....i'm glad we left early.....

pretty good tourney though.......mostly close games all weekend

  4. QUOTE(jhoutsider @ Mar 18 2007 - 07:57 PM) 826416759was Central in the final?

Central finished third......Notre Dame and Kingston ended up co-champions after Notre Dame forced the if necessary game. That game ended at 11:45 and Kingstons pitcher got hurt so they ended up not playing again.

  5. QUOTE(gator10 @ Mar 16 2007 - 06:56 PM) 826414586Any scores

Midway 5 McMinn Central 2, Bledsoe 7 Seymour 2, Meigs 2 Johnson Co. 1, Seymour 9 Johnson Co. 0, Meigs 4 Bledsoe 3, Sequoyah beat Sale Creek but not sure of the score. Kingston 3 Polk Co. 0.

  6. QUOTE(McMinn Central Maniac @ Mar 7 2007 - 05:59 AM) 826403134Do we really need another rule? There are standards already in place about HS coaches being involved with AAU. Shouldn't that be enough?

I wouldn't think that most high school parents are forcing their daughters to play summer ball. It has been my experience that the girls who play in 15-under as well as older divisions are doing it because they love to play the game. I know that many of our girls who play summer ball also participate in either soccer or volleyball will school starts back up. So they ARE playing other sports too.

I really think the rule is trying to cut down on recruiting.

  7. QUOTE(Bledsoebtheboys @ Mar 5 2007 - 12:28 PM) 826400478I thought so....I think we'll probably start 3 this year....

At least the future should be bright for both of us.

  8. QUOTE(Bledsoebtheboys @ Mar 5 2007 - 12:12 PM) 826400460They graduated 4 and Katlyn Gilbert transferred to South Pittsburg.....Pitching will be our weak point....

We will probably be starting 5 freshmen over here at Meigs so keeping enough diapers in the dugout will be our biggest problem.

  9. QUOTE(Bledsoebtheboys @ Mar 5 2007 - 12:03 PM) 826400443Yeah I know they graduated alot off of last years team, but they always find a way to reload.....

Hey Bledsoe......how are the Lady Warriors of Bledsoe looking this year?........They are playing in our tourney again this year and Athens and didn't know how many they graduated or how many they have coming back..

  10. QUOTE(Bledsoebtheboys @ Mar 5 2007 - 11:55 AM) 826400436I think Boyd will win this District again.....Sweetwater may give them a run for there money though....

Boyd graduated 8 starters off last years team but like lovethisgame said they will probably just reload. Sweetwater will be very talented this year and Central returns their entire team minus a couple of knee injuries.

  11. QUOTE(hoops fan2 @ Mar 3 2007 - 08:31 PM) 826398606i agree with you on this one -- it does highly promote this legal recruiting -- i too think kids should stay at the school they are suppose to go to -- course i understand it is a free world and families can move - and they do, more than iever imagined

i posted a thread weeks back to get input on how many girls go to schools where they do not live (or did not live) ---

i did not want names or schools --- just comments ---- BUT MY THREAD WAS QUICKLY ERASED

i think it should be discussed -- again, on names -- but they know who they are --- i know several schools right now who are in the region and several of the players moved just to play ball ----

the 50 percent rule would highly cut down on the recruiting -- win the old fashioned way - with kids that live in your town just my opinion

    I Agree 100 %

  12. The rule as I see it is to stop kids from going to schools outside their school district. Town "A" has an AAU team and a couple of kids from town "B" and town "C" play on it. When school opens up in August, all of a sudden those 4 kids show up to enroll at town "A's" school. The 50% rule will help stop this "legal" recruiting. Bottom line, in my opinion, kids need to go to school where they are SUPPOSED to go to school, whether the "Ball Team" is championship caliber or not.

  13. It is a shame that the T$$AA won't let District 6 AA just have their OWN state tournament. It just sounds like the rest of the state could play the regular tourney and the winner could be "State Champ other than District 6 AA." Obviously, according to all the posts I've read on here, no other school or player works as hard or wants it as much as this district. And now I have read where someone hopes and prays that their team wins. I sure hope that nobody from the other team is hoping and praying that they win or it sure is gonna put God in a tight spot.

  14. QUOTE(bigdonmonkey @ Mar 1 2007 - 10:13 AM) 826394689What scorers did McMinn County lose to injury?

Don't think they were their leading scorers but they definately played significant roles. The players were Katie Hearn, who tore her ACL playing soccer and Mindy Rayburn, who tore her ACL during a holiday Christmas tourney. They are both seniors.

  15. QUOTE(Sequoyah SID @ Feb 20 2007 - 03:49 PM) 826381366Sweetwater's game against Tyner was probably the best I have seen the Lady Wildcats play all year. It really helped that they got Megan Inman back. She had been sidelined with an injury. She just adds so much more down low. Let's just hope the remaining teams will represent the district well in the region. Sweetwater starts with a tough one in Sequatchie County.

In my opinion district 5 should win 3 of the 4 opening round games. I don't see any way that Sweetwater can beat Sequatchie in Dunlap. The second round games at Cleveland State should be some humdingers regardless who wins in the opening round. Sequatchie seems to be playing their best ball right now and I see them making the finals unless Tellico upsets Central tonight.

  16. QUOTE(Sequoyah SID @ Feb 15 2007 - 08:40 AM) 826372695

    Tellico-Brooke McKinnon, Tucker Cole

    Central-Kylie Lambert, Mindy Rayburn

    Sequoyah-Alexis Rouvelas, Kayla Guthrie

    Polk County-Candace Cain, Sydney Rogers

    Sweetwater-Taylor Neil, Heather Gibson

Brainerd-Jessica Jones, Latisha Smith, Antonetta Ivey

    Tyner-Lundyn Howard, Krista Bowman

    Boyd-Buchanan-Shelby May

    Meigs County-Ashley Shaver

Coach of the year: Ronnie Davis, Polk County

Kinda looks like this is a joke just like I heard it was.....
