1. QUOTE(Skipper @ Apr 1 2007 - 05:18 PM) 826427705Tullahoma Girl's Varsity Coach Katie Galloway has resigned following a suggestion to do so by THS Principal Mike Landis. I heard that there was a lot of complaints from the players and parents that the girls weren't being worked hard enough due to Coach Galloway spending a lot of time with her boyfriend in Chattanooga. The coach of the Freshman team, Lindsey Worbington, was working her team much harder, and the results showed with an outstanding season that included a victory over Shelbyville! Ed Tucker, former head coach of the East Middle School girl's team, had also done an exceptional job in developing the Freshman players. 4 out of the 5 starters (Danae Thornburg, Olivia Barlow, Jenna Larson and Kristina Tucker) started for his team at East. He also developed upcoming Freshman Katie Brock, who is a great post player. He will be coaching most of the varsity team this Spring with a traveling team, which will prepare them well for next season. Tullahoma will only have 1 senior next year, but a tremendous amount of talent in the Juniors and Sophmores. The new coach has a nice problem in that he will be forced to cut players next year because there are so many girls that want to play. Next year may still be a tough year since it will be such a young team, but Tullahoma should be very competitive over the following 2 years. With solid coaching, they could even topple Shelbyville. The new coach was named on Friday and has already met with the players. I heard that his name is Mike (?) with past ties to Shelbyville. Does anyone know what is full name is and his background?

He was in Shelbyville in the early 80's. Not sure if he was boys HC or just an assistant. My brother in law played ball under him and I have met him several times. He sure has the experience. Wish him the best seemded to be a good man the times I've seen and talked with him.

  2. QUOTE(Big Boy @ Apr 11 2007 - 10:09 AM) 826434724Wow, being an outsider I just figured out that these two schools are in the same county. Are these the same two schools that were in the fight we read about earlier this year on the floor? Was this another reason the Unionville coach was let go? If so, why was the Cascade coach not? Seems that the names up for the jobs are local people who have been very successful but I was wondering why you would fire a coach with 20 years experience and replace him with a jr. high coach? Was Coach Spencer a great local high school player? What about the other candidates? Also, how do you decide a jr. high coach is a great "tactician"? Just wondering....this is really good stuff for us that don't have a dog in the fight.

Spencer helped out with the girls high school program in Shelbyville for years and has been involved with AAU for just as long all of witch Coach Insell headed. He still has close ties to Rick at MTSU. Loves the game of basketball as much as anyone I've ever known.

  3. QUOTE(cascade11 @ Apr 11 2007 - 06:30 AM) 826434577I'll tell you what there, Mr. Grammar, just because I don't have a screen name that implies that I may be smarter than I am doesn't give you cause to imply I'm an idiot. If my opinion is "just the opposite" of a smart person's there just may be some people that would say the same thing about some of your OPINIONS. Just to set the record straight, neither of my daughters plays basketball, nor plan to, so I wouldn't be one who should have any input on this decision anyway. I have been an athlete and coach for MANY years, and I can assure you that a Coach that comes into a situation as messed up as Cascade's girls program will need to have the girls and parents behind him to stand a fighting chance at turning things around. If you don't think that popularity is a key, along with winning, in any Coaching position, then you are extremely naive. It only makes sense to feel the community out and have a good idea of what type of Coach is going to be well received. I'm not saying that any of the Coaches mentioned so far would not make a great Coach and a welcome addition to our Faculty, I'm saying that there is no harm in soliciting a few opinions from Alumni, other Educators, other Coaches, and yes Parents. I'm sorry if that is a stupid opinion, but that is the great thing about this country, right or wrong, everyone is entitled to one! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I think the school should try and get David Parker(younger brother of Kenny) to coach whatever. A real loss when David left to take a job in administration. I'm gonna make a statement like "bballrocks" David Parker is one of the best coaches in this town football, baseball and I'm sure he could do basketball well also. Good luck on getting a coach with quote, a situation as messed up girl's program.

  4. QUOTE(THA_MAN @ Jan 28 2007 - 11:04 PM) 826349883

REALLY, Does any of this suprise anybody. Both teams have had good players. But I have never been able to see the results of either coach. One is better because He has pick up a few kids that would never be able to play at Shelbyville. Yes the refs were bad , but 2 of them are always bad. The programs have great kids. JUST NO LEADERSHIP. Rick Insell never had this problem. Kevin never has this problem. And there is a good reason. (Its called controling your on players.) I,m even hearing that one of the coaches are trying to leave a go work for the other. Good Luck to all the players. Its really not your fault that your coaches have not tought you SELF-CONTROL. But this does not suprise me, with this happening to these two schools.

Leave Shelbyville Central and their caoches out of this drama.

  5. Coach Jay Thaxton while he was at Shelbyville. He had a great relationship with his players, you hear the term used all the time "HE was a players Coach". As I have gotten older I really appreciate the fact he did not PLAY ANY POLITICS. Great man and still a great friend some 15 to 18 years later.

  6. I think the coaches tried not to lose instead of trying to win, what do you think?

This could be the most ridiculous statement I have ever seen posted on this website. Get a clue before you post again. Nothing else to say.

  7. springfield by 40+ football is pretty much dead in shelbyville

when you have more kids try out for soccer than football thats bad REALLY BAD!!

    and i am lien either

What an idiot. What soccer are you talking about? Boys soccer is not until the spring and I don't think there have been tryouts yet. Totally ridiculous statement.

Shelbyville football will be OK given a little time. Coach Hardy has the kids working hard and hard work will pay off.

Keep up the work Coach, excellent message to the team last night. Just exactly what those kids needed to hear.

  8. not to good cuz we killed yall on friday :D

maybe I watched adifferent game, Blackman killed NO ONE AT ALL. I thinkShelbyville will be a better football team than last year. Blackman should be very worried about winning in their region and not getting killed thrmselves.

  9. I can tell, you think highly of Jay and I'm sure he appreciates your support. He has told me that he is staying at Jackson County. He's a good man who deserves the best. I'm friends with a guy that used to play football for Jay at Shelbyville and he feels the same way you do. I just want to say good luck to Coach Thaxton in what ever he decides to do.

Agreed Jay Thaxton is a fine man. Enough said. I'm glad you see/know the man that many of us in Shelbyville grew to love. Good luck to the new coach.

  10. Like I said before I think the world of Coach Thaxton and I voiced my opinion to the director of schools about his dismissal. But I would like to ask you one question why didn't Shelbyille try to get him back once they found out he was no longer coaching for Jackson County. I would hate to see him leave our school system but I know he loves the game of football.

I don't have an answer to your question other than myself along with most all of his past players would have never let him go years ago. A great football coach, his record speaks for itself (in Shelbyville) and an even better person. It is obvious how much I think of him as a past coach and good friend or I would not waste my time with anything to do with Jackson County sports. I want what he wants, if it is to get out of JC, I wish it could be soon for him. If he wants to hang around--good luck Jay be strong.

Speaking of the new coach in Shelbyville, Jason Hardy, I am thrilled to death. I am good friends with him also. He has many of the same qualities I think Coach Thaxton possesses.

  11. I have always been a strong supporter of Coach Thaxton. But lets leave the baseball coach out of this. They are doing alot better this year and they don't practice the last 2 or 3 weeks of the season without their bats and gloves. I would also like to wish Coach Russell the best of luck.

What is fair is fair. If the baseball coach isn't getting the job done playing the same schools the football team is playing I just wonder if the powers that be are gonna can him also. Or is it, as I have mentioned before a LACK OF TALENT. If that be the case let the man work through the tough times and continue about his business of coaching.

I will not even comment on the practice issue as I have previously posted about that also.

  12. Good luck to the new coach. I wish him the the best though I am sticking to the fact that someone got rid of the best coach Jackson County has ever had. I'm speaking of Coach Thaxton. Hopefully this new guy will have better support than Thaxton. The community needs to get behind the program and coach with some money to update the facilities so the student athletes can have some pride in their program.

Speaking of Coach Thaxton, I wonder if the baseball coach at Jackson County is next to be booted. From what I have seen and read the baseball team is getting hammered by the same teams that was beating the football team. So tell me please again is it poor coaches or as I posted before a lack of talent. Just curious. I have no dog in the fight other than Coach Thaxton is one h-ll of a coach and even a better person that was the scapegoat for a poor situation.

Good luck to Coach Russell and hang in there Jay. :thumb:

  13. I hear that Coach Hardy is coming back as Shelbyville's head coach. I think this is a great hire. He is a super person and very good with the X's and O's of the game. Young, energetic and a very supportive wife makes for an excellent hire. Great job Coach Embry and Coach Williams. Good luck to Coach Hardy and his new team.

  14. I'm happy that those haters lost while trying to cheat.....that makes this victory a great one......GO HAMILTON....WEST TENNESSEE RULES.... B)

Again trying to blame the poor officiating on a bunch of teenage young men just shows how classless you actually are. The Shelbyville team had nothing at all to do with the calls. As a matter of fact the refs hammered Shelbyville in their first two games and nothing at all has been said on here about those games. I just wonder what all would be happening on this site if Hamilton was beaten. Possibly mass suicide by a bunch of classless, supid, morons. Might have helped society, darn it!!

  15. what made this game close was the fact that the refs was trying to cheat for shelbyville.....remember the old saying cheaters never win, this old saying almost was proven wrong...the tssaa needs to investigate those officials because this is giving our tournament a bad name....5 players plus 3 refs still equals a lost for shelbyville...now how you like those apples.....GO HAMILTON....undefeated haters... B)

You have got to be a complete moron, absolutely stupid. The players from Shelbyville nor the coaches had a darn thing to do with the poor officiating. Shelbyville's first two games the refs stuck it to them with some horrible calls. If Hamilton had played like the team they were built up to be then it wouldn't have mattered at all. Shelbyville surprised lots of people including you obviously. I don't understand why everyone is dogging the team out.
