the ball was not over the line it was only half over but the ref muffed the call

that makes no sense. It can not be a legit goal if it only goes half way over the line. it has to go all the way over my friend. sounds like he made a good call.

I haven't seen Farragut play, but I think it will be close. Only say this because of the statistics of goals allowed and goals scored for each team.

Let bygones be bygones is all I got to say. None of this will change the outcome and the he said, he said, comments won't prove anything either. The coaches are the only ones who know what really happened and it should be kept to themselves. Looks like it's time to close this topic!

Agreed, i just did want it to seem like we (Farragut) were the bad guys. Everyone sees it a different way and everyone is told different things.

This is my first and will probably be my only post on this web-site but after letting the dust settle and sleeping on it I feel it is necessary to post the facts of this match. We set the time of this match at 7 on Thur. night at Morr. West after a very emotional win. I had no idea until later that evening when I spoke to another coach from Knox. that Farragut had graduation. The next morning I told my AD and called the coach at Farragut. Three years ago the same situation occured and the coach at Farragut lied that the TSSAA can set the time if we do not move it. After getting cussed out by the coach at Farragut Fri. morning I called the AD at Farragut who explained to me that they have had private ceremonies in the past with track athletes that made it to State. I told him that if we made it to the Champinship my 10 Seniors would be in that same situation as well. I also called Gene Beck with the TSSAA who told me that last year the TSSAA changed the by-laws and if both schools don' t agree they will set the time. I got together with my 5 captains and told them we had to set a time, we chose 10 a.m. I called Gene Beck back and told him 10 a.m. and he called Farragut. Mr. Beck totally agreed with me that my guys deserved to play the game when they wanted by taking care of their business in the Regional final. Now to the match itself and to the State Championships. I hope we never make it to the State Championships if what it takes is to allow players to urinate on a field and steal warm-up cones in the process. I am not pleased with the actions of some of my players during the course of this match. However the intent was evident from the start which explains the number of direct and indirect kicks we were rewarded. Farragut took advantage of their opportunities and we did not. I am a teacher first and a coach second, I spend 180 days with my players and everyday is a success story as I use the game to teach the lessons in life and through that process wooden plaques with metal on the front of them sometimes occur. We don't understand that in some parts of the world kids their age are fighting to the death for what they believe in. I will be the first to say that the game is getting ugly and in my opinion in some parts it is because we are allowing non-faculty coaches to coach. I encourage anyone involved in coaching to walk the halls of their school, see the kids day to day, give rides home from games or practice, make home visits and see what your players lives are really like and that is were games in my eyes are won and lost. As for my players they understand that the scoreboard is and always will be in your heart. Coach Smelser

Yeah im going to defend my team and coach on this one sorry Big G if i mess up....

First of all, I believe that you are the one who has a reputation of lieing. And i know of several players who have told me that there coaches said they are not willing to play you all anymore beacuase of your reputaion. Our coach is a very honest and kind person if you actually know him. Obviously you do not. I belive when our coach asked for the game time and was told 7 p.m. he said that would not work becasue of our graduation. You told him to bad that you all won your regional match and we would play at 7 or forfeit. You make it seem like you are the nice guy and changed it right away. I saw our coach at school almost all day talking to the principles because SH would not agree to change the time. Our principal and coach together finally got the time changed through the state since SH was not willing to change the time. And im sorry if i offended you or your team by urinating on a tree off to the side of your field. i apoligize but when a mans got to go, a man go to go. Also, i have never been to that complex and so i had no idea where else to go. As for the stealing of cones, we both warm up with cones on the half line, so it was probably an accident if some cones were mistaken for. And i would say that had nothing to do with the game or as you said what it takes to make it to the State Championships. And for the free kicks.... it was wet that morning and our goalie slid outside the box with the ball about 5 times on accident, we had atleast 3 handballs outside the box, that were interesting calls, and we had some upstruction calls against us too. thats about 10. so minus that from 15. I would say 5 is a reasonable number. I believe Eddie Yah had a red card for pushing someone over and stepping on him. And also some other yellows from your team. we had 2 i believe but one was from arguing so i would say we played a clean game. And after reading that post i really know you do not know our coach. Just because he is not a faculy member does not mean he is not close to us. Our caoch is one of the most dedicated coaches i have ever met. He does so much for our team off and on the field its crazy. We have meetings at his house and there have several occasions when we have just gone over there just to talk after games and things like that. You may be that way for your team, but by the way you worded what you said it sounds like you think our coach is not. and you are definately wrong. Also i forgot to mention that i have been playing for Coach Wallie for 3 years now and i have never heard him cuss one time. He told us that he did say one cuss word and it was in a phrase and it was "payback is a bi***. i would say that does not qualify for cussing you out.

Who do you guys think will win this one?

It is VERY hard to beat a team three times... Hopefully we come out preprared once again and take it to them.

look at last year in the same game (against Farragut) they picked it up and almost won. I happen to think that they will play very well tonight and Bearden needs to be ready.

i think bearden will win 2-1 and farragut will win 1-0.

I would say that the forwards and the whole team should have their way with Oak Ridge, they were alot better last year by the way. i say 3-1 Bearden.

So I was sitting at my computer and thinking about my days on the boys soccer team at Farragut. I was also pondering how the boys were looking this year. I graduated in 2003 and was a part of (what I see as) the most crucial Farragut soccer season ever. Right now I am no longer playing, and I am about to graduate from my college: so please, anyone explain the following:

 

-Back then we had a 'death squad,' does that still exist?

-Who are some of the top goal scorers; and even more importantly, who are the kick butt defenders that are holding the team up?

-Will someone PLEASE make sure and post the tournament schedule so that I might come down and see a game (a good one hopefully).

-Which teams give Farragut a good run for their money? Bearden anymore?

hey yeah i play for farragut. Im a junior and play center mid but to answer some of your questions...

1. yeah the death squad is not there anymore. it was last year some but this year it was never really even mentioned.

2. The top goal scorer is Jake Russell but i think you know ben backstrom or atleast his older brother, he is second and also has the most assists i think. BOth who are juniors. Nic Paolucci is the sweeper, also a junior, who is really good and has amazing speed. The threee in front of him are 3 solid guys. 1 being Joesph Muth, a sophmore who not to mention is the third leading goal scorer, he is great in the air. Then another junior ( Mitchell Ismail) and a captain Ben Lawson. But the future for our team and defense looks pretty good.

3. The state tournament is not posted yet. we are going to have to play good soccer to get there which we definately can it is just we have been slacking a little. If you are interested in the district or regionals though i can do that.

4. And there are alot of teams that give us good games. you can see our schdule at eurosportscoreboard.com. But bearden is solid but we took care of business and got a 3-1 win. anymore quesitons, ill be glad to answer

We want to bring the tradtion back that you all left us and are going to try this year. As of now we start... 3 seniors, 7 juniors, and 1 sophmore. I like are chances not only this year but next year.

it seems that farragut just doesn't play against Science Hill, they got beat by them 2 years ago as well, congrats to SH, i hope you guy can do well if you get out of regions.

it looks like this region is going to be strong no matter who goes through. (even though i hope it is Bearden and Farragut)

Farragut you guys just need to rebound against Oak Ridge and take it easy, you don't need more injuries before the stuff that really counts comes.

Yeah i would agree with on this post.... Science Hill came to play and we just didnt show up. Congraulations. But no one from around here would play Science Hill until sub-state, not regionals, so i am hoping for the Bearden- Farragut game again too. Yeah we put that last loss behind us for now... and Oak Ridge is are new focus. Then CAK and were done. We are also hoping on no more injuries as you said before the stuff that really counts. Who does Bearden have Left?

Thanks for putting me down off my high Liverpool. And whoever said that keeper isnt experienced is wrong. He played on a D1 team that are state champs and play in the Regon III Premier league. That sounds experienced to me. But you can judge for yourself. Lol

Yeah well i wouldn't cut on him to much because you will be going up against him very soon and yes he plays defense... he is a terrible trash talker but yeah he is really good and i would have to say he can shut down anyone around here... he proved himself by shuting down Lowder or whoever that guys is on Brentwood that everyone talks about last year at state. we just really unlucky and got to tired in the last minute. but yeah trash talking him wont help you any just for the info. you will meet him soon and myself.

Yeah Farragut Beat Beardens Jv team 1-0. Yeah thats right we are amazing. Its funny even Beardens JV team plays really dirty, and just kicks the ball down the field to one forward.

 

And oh yeah, i scored on a Free kick like 5 or 6 feet outside the 18 to the side.

I dont know excatly what all was said but when im playing and the crowd is yelling at me... i honestly like it... i just smile and make them even more mad about what there yelling about. It fuels my game and i want to play more intense. Lenoir City needs to use this as a learing example and try to get over this one and move on. All that madders is what is happening on the field... the fans normally do not even know what they are talking about... i mean they are teenagers and if they were soccer players they would be on the field or the bench.

im going to say that is puts them in Third maybe second but the district semi finals should be if the top seats win their first games.

Hiroki Naito hit a very good shot just outside of the 18 in our game against Cleveland...it was bouncing along the ground and it was a rocket in the top left corner. The keeper had no chance in stopping it.

Hiroki is a playa on and off the field. hes the man.
