Wow, really congrats. I have enjoyed hearing about this special group of girls this year.

Who in high school ball can really haul around the basepaths? Are there any speedsters or slappers out there that can go 2.75 or better to first? Who is the fastest you have seen?

I never said they weren't capable. I just said I thought they needed more depth. It had nothing to do with the individual pitchers. I saw the game. It is an opinion. Period. Cat is obviously capable. She did last year. I was just saying.....and I do know what I saw. It will just take more to win a national Championship than what I saw this week. Obviously the sports writer's agreed. The whole team has talent. they are going to have to step up to stay in top 10.

MS I think the problem is that Chattanooga isnt on this list , and although I would love to see it on this list, honestly it will probably never happen. Putting down Tennessee players, the Tennessee team, coaches or whatever , will never make it happen. Chattanooga has a better team than it has had in years and I am proud of them. Focus on that.

Ok the season is upon us. Who is the most dominating pitcher in the state this year and who is up and coming?

Did he really say that??? I read this and couldnt believe it...Give Riverdale an ounce of credit here. Talk about a sore loser. Give Riverdale a huge congrats and concentrate on building your team for next year.

How many innings in high school fast pitch softball does a pitcher have to pitch to be credited for the win if their team is ahead when the pitcher is pulled. Thanks

I think four gold teams in Tennessee is great news! Tennessee has the talent. Ok , but what 4 gold teams are there? I know of Fury and now I know of Knoxville, is Pruitt's cruisers finally going to a true 18U gold? Is the Xplosion still around for gold ball, I thought Ken Crook was retiring.

My daughters love them, as a pitcher she get better grip with metal cleats, and most girls at this leval slide head first. When she was 14 she broke her foot sliding into 2nd base and she had on plastic cleats......the only way to stop this is to outlaw sliding lol

Well Mr. LOL I wonder why ASA, the governing body of all softball worth playing, WILL NOT approve metal cleats for girls . Why do so many states still ban them? Why do a majority of girls parents and coaches advise their girls NOT to wear them even though they are allowed? Hmmmmmm maybe it is because they dont want to assume the liability?

I have played travel ball for the past 5 yrs, 3 with the Smokey Mountain Sting, out of Waynesville N.C.,2 yrs with the Scorpions of Black Mountain N.C. and some select tournaments with the Knoxville Lady Eagles 18U. A Couple with the Unicoi County Royals 18U. I've also pitched against Riverdale H.S. cant remember the pitchers name Big Blond hair Girl that broke her ankle last season she pitched against us. We lost 1-0 had 9 k's Best talent and a real H.S. Team.

Well that blonde hair girl would be Cat Hosfield, she pitches for the University of Tennessee now. Another girl on that team , who is a senior this year is going to the University of Kentucky next year and still another is going to MTSU . All on softball scholarships. I would contact Pat Moyer ,of the FURY, if his team is full ask him for help and get his opinion of the best team next year. Also ask him for help with your recruiting. HE is without mistake the MOST connected coach in the state. All his players get signed!! He will help you even if you are not on his team.

The best college exposure team is the Fury based out of Chattanooga. However, you would have travel to play. They play top teams as far away as California. If you can make the team it is worth it as the main manager, Pat Moyer, knows how to work the recruiting system. He has a direct bee line to the top D-I, D-II and NAIA coaches all over the country. He has their email addresses and cells and frequently contacts them with where his teams are playing. He will tell you what to say, do ectt...and he will promote your strengths to these coaches.

I don't see a problem with the metal cleats. The guys start using them at 13 and don't look back. There's not as many injuries for them because they adapt to them earlier and they are taught proper technique in sliding and tagging. Softball pitching technique may be a different story but everything else should be basically the same between baseball and softball.

 

Metal cleats have better traction than rubber or molded plastic. Better in dirt, better in grass. That's why college teams use them as well as professional teams. If physiological differences between males and females are the reason for more injuries in softball, I would think that could be corrected with a better design. Getting cleated by someone sliding though is purely technique.

I think metal cleats have NO business being involved in youth softball. For the following reasons:

1) A lot of times the girls get coaches who do not understand how to teach proper sliding and basic playing techniques that allow them to play safely in metal cleats. Dont get me wrong, some do, but too many do not unlike their male peers that play baseball. The girls often get a football coach or something else

2) Girls have a different physical makeup than boys that cause their knees and other joints to be more easily torn up with the grip of a metal cleat. ( Their hips cause their upper leg to join into their knee at an angle -for one )

First off I said find something that was detremental about someone's character. So which of these examples other than the part about Mr Mason in the first one makes the Renfroes (or anybody) look bad. None of which do.

 

And again, (for the second time) I am talking about this thread. I never saw the other one so I don't know a thing about it. No one has run anybody in the ground in this thread like you are making it out to be.

 

Again, (for the third time) quit trying to be the moral police of coacht. If people want to talk about where they are going and not spread rumours which myself and others have done, don't tell us that we shouldn't be doing it. Heck if they want to do it, you don't have a right to tell them not to. I don't agree with doing it but if they can live with it, then more power to them.

 

You lost a lot a cred with me (and maybe a few others) when you started off your tirade in this thread with the part about no one cares. Then you backed up and punted with the moral crime that we are supposedly comitting. Made it look like you were the one trying to save face. Best, My last post may have been misunderstood. I was trying to inject a little toung in cheek humor and maybe that wasn't the right place. As I've said before, I don't really think it's going to change the course of fate for anyone on Coach T no matter where the Renfroes wind up going to school or work. People will continue on with their lives no matter what. But the only reason anyone here is talking about any of this is because it's softball related. To suggest people shouldn't get on Coach T (or any other forum for that matter) and talk about "ANYONE" or softball related things is a little ridiculous. People are always going to talk about things that other people don't like & you or I either one are not going to change that. That's life. Get over it & move on. And for the record, my daughter & I have both been talked about on & off of Coach T by plenty of folks. It didn't kill us & it's probably not going to kill the Renfroes either.

JVaughn, you're probably right. This thread has gone somewhere besides where it started. Being from E. TN, I don't have a horse in this race & so I'll just end my part on this thread by saying that I wish the Renfroes good luck & Godspeed wherever they end up. I love softball & I love to watch talented people play the sport. I know they'll make all of TN proud when they get to UT.

Just remember what your mama taught you in grade school " just because everyone does something doesnt mean you have to do it and it doesnt make it the right thing to do" It wasnt and never will be right to discuss someones job or lack thereof, getting fired...quitting ect.. on this board. Look, no one is gossiping, spreading ugly rumours (or even good ones), or running anybody's name into the ground. I have not read anything on this thread (pertaing to the topic) that has just made me go "Man they shouldn't have said that." The stuff about who contacted who first is a little personal but nothing that has hurt anybody's character or good name.

 

What is immature is that this thread has actually come to the point it is at. If you don't have anything to say about what school they are going to be attending, then just don't post. If you don't care what school they go to, then don't even read the thread. Lets all be adults and have an adult conversation about a topic that is worth discussing.

Talking about someones father being fired isnt gossip? Go read the other thread about the Renfroes. That isnt malicious gossip? Oh, I think it was blocked or deleted wasnt it. What about other malicious gossip about young girls that has been posted on here about others. Talking about ANYONE specific and their personal life and personal decisions and why they made them is indeed gossip. If you want a topic worht discussing lets talk about the mechanics of hitting, pitching infractions, 40 vs 43 feet, anything that has to do with the game and not little girls and their families that participate in it

Pithcers that just throw fastballs and change ups will get hit harder and more often, but those at the top of the game throwing the breaking stuff will be more dominant than before. I have seen our pitcher throw high school from 40 feet and college exsposure from 43. Curves and screwball broke another 3 or 4 inches as well as the drop balls. A pitcher who can throw heat and mix breaking balls from 43 feet will have more success.

People (including the Renfroes) have certain RIGHTS guaranteed by the constitution of the U.S.. But nowhere in the constitution does anyone have the right to keep others from talking about them. No one on this board really cares deeply wether the Renfroes or anyone else returns to this school or that one, but for crying out loud, this is a softball forum. I do care about Tennessee softball, but I could care less what one individual family decides to do with their kids. The only reason I read and comment on it is because there is nothing else on this board to read and comment on. I dont know if you have noticed but this site is dead and any time something starts to come alive on it , the post is deleted or moved.

IMO, if they change HS to 43' then they should change 14U to 43' as well. There are too many small schools with FR/SO pitchers that would be swapping back to 40' when they travel/play during the summer.

Freshmen/ Sophomores should be playing at least 16U to be ready for high school ball. I would not be in favor of 14U being at 43.
