1. QUOTE(7innings32 @ May 18 2007 - 10:03 AM) 826461873all you hear about on these messege boards is oakland this, and oakland that. it seems all the talk is about them when there are plenty of other good teams out there that play just as good baseball. dont get me wrong they are a very good team and i have the upmost respect for them and i give them props for their record, but that is only a number and they are not unbeatable. and cleveland is also a very good team and i think that they will give them a good game. cleveland has came a long way this season and they shouldnt be taken lightly.

Of course they aren't unbeatable-- they've been BEATEN this year so no one has ever said that. And to DDA i'm sure oakland had some people down at the BC-Cleveland game Wednesday as well. Can either of you all give us a little background on Cleveland's pitching or batters? I'm looking for a great game tonight by both teams and hopefully Oakland will come out on top!

  2. QUOTE(pedo_29 @ May 17 2007 - 12:09 PM) 826461143No doubt one of the strangest I have ever seen. The balk call was ridiculous and hurt...but not as much as those four RBI's by Polk! Oakland is a good team and managed to get the job done. But I got to say congratulations to the Raiders. Played one heck of a game! If they play like that every game then I wouldn't be suprised to see a Coffee County Oakland re-match in the boro next week!

I was sitting up top last night by one of the head umpires (i'm going to keep his name off the boards) of the either the Middle TN region or maybe the entire state but he said not only did the pitcher balk when the umpire called it, he balked the first time he tried the fake to 3rd/ fake to 1st move. I know this sounds biased but i'm not trying to be i'm just saying what the man said. He said the reason is because the rule states the pitcher has to "gain ground" towards 3rd on any attempt to pick off a runner, whether he throws it or not. Apparently the pitcher must not have gained ground.

  3. QUOTE(BulldogDad1 @ May 15 2007 - 11:56 PM) 826459997Franklin or Overton

Wow win or lose both Smyrna and Mt. J have a great substate draw...IMO both will advance to the state tourney.

  4. QUOTE(1moreDBmom @ May 15 2007 - 10:16 AM) 826459443TSSAA.ORG has such a bracket for everybody playing this week and next....softball, baseball, soccer...etc...

ADDED: here is a nice printable bracket .....they are a little slow in updating it, but if you print it you can update it manually

    Thanks! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  5. IMO Siegel will not be 10-4 or 11-3 like they were this year but that's not to say they won't finish 2nd in the district because it will be down next year. Oakland still has the upper hand because of Wilson, Barrett, Dodd, and Parsley returning but Blackman loses a lot of pitching and offense and Riverdale loses its top 4 bats (Skinner, Hunter, Jones, Johnson). Look for Oakland, Cookeville, and Siegel to be top 3 next year.

  6. The official team hasn't been released to the media yet, but my predictions are:

    C- Fann OHS

    1B- Dodd OHS

    2B- McConnell OHS

    SS- Burnett OHS

    3B- Reeder CHS

    OF- Skinner RHS

    OF- Hunter RHS

    OF- Polk OHS

    Utility- Johnson RHS

    Barnes BHS

    Pitchers- Barnes OHS

    Faust SHS

    Farley CHS

    Wilson OHS

    Hurt RHS

Pitcher of the Year: Barnes OHS

Batter of the Year: Dodd OHS

  7. QUOTE(pedo_29 @ May 11 2007 - 01:59 PM) 826457365Well if I were Cookeville I would have drilled somebody when Oakland took off stealing third up 14-0. I realize Hawks likely didn't put that on and the runner probably went on his own...but I would hope players on this level....especially at the level of Oakland...know a little bit more about what's going on. That being said...Oakland is the most impressive h/s team I've ever seen.

From what i've heard some of Oakland's players were still upset from the 2006 season when Cookeville was up 10-2 and continued stealing in the later part of the game. Personally I don't remember the steal from the game but I'd it was the players who probably decided to keep pouring it on in retaliation from the previous season.

  8. QUOTE(columbiaguy @ May 11 2007 - 09:56 AM) 826457216I know all the Oakland fans think they are going to walk over Lawrence Co. but don't be so sure. This Lawrence Co. team can really swing it and they scrap like crazy. I know Oakland is great but expect a hard fought game Monday. I am not saying Lawrence will win but I am saying it will be closer than you think.

Can you give us any info on their pitchers/big hitters?

  9. What is everyone's thoughts on Cookeville bunting to break up the perfect game last night? I've always heard one of the "unwritten" rules of baseball is to never break up a perfect game or no hitter with a bunt. Any thoughts?

  10. QUOTE(riverdaleman @ May 2 2007 - 09:34 PM) 826450466however...so far at RIVERDALE our SRs have already been to the state tournament 2 times and during his career we won 1 state football championship and a girls state championship but whos counting LOL

But only a few played on the football and baseball teams in the same year correct? And for some reason i bet none of the baseball players played on the girls bball team this year /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> haha

  11. QUOTE(OaklandBasketball @ May 2 2007 - 09:14 PM) 826450430So Oakland pretty much now has a guy going to every major post secondary institution in tennessee

Wow that is something definitely to be proud of! Go Pats good luck in the district this weekend!

  12. Oakland wins tonight 10-1. Dodd with a grand slam and Polk hits a HR two pitches later for back to back jacks. Barrett, Clark, Wilson, Dodd, and Burnett all threw for the Patriots

  13. QUOTE(Winners Inc @ Apr 27 2007 - 11:21 PM) 826447278Is almost losing to the 8th place team in the district considered a "fluke" too, Oakland fans? /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

I wonder if Siegel will have enough pitching depth and offense to get past the district tournament /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

  14. QUOTE(manofmanywives @ Apr 26 2007 - 09:39 PM) 826446413Behind the success at Siegel and Oakland is Coach Mike Tobitt at Siegel Middle School. Just about all of the starters at Oakland and Siegel played for Tobitt. Even one of the starting pitchers for Riverdale played for Tobitt at Siegel Middle. Oakland and Siegel are now in 1st and 2nd in the district, respectively. This is not by accident. Reavis and Hawks can obviously coach but Tobitt taught most of their players the fundamentals of high school baseball.

If zoning was really an issue, all of these kids would have went to just one of these schools and really dominated the region and state...this year and next. Tobitt (and Bartlett) taught these kids how to play high school baseball starting in the 6th grade. He practiced these boys on the old VA field before the SMS field was built. And yes, us parents and the players built the Siegel middle field under the guidance of Tobitt. His middle school field is now better than many high school fields. Think about it...the boys that learned high school baseball under Tobitt are now ranked 4th in the country.

Yes, he broke fungos. Yes, he yelled at our kids. Yes, he would bench you in a heatbeat. But these kids can now play baseball at a high level. There is simply no better place to send your kid to play middle school baseball than Siegel Middle under Tobitt and Bartlett. Proof is in the pudding!

Go Stars and Patriots and Utterback, most of whom played for Tobitt.

Oakland has as many kids, if not more, who didn't play for Siegel Middle (McConnell, McGowan, Fann, Ward, Barnes, Wilson, etc.) than those who did (Dodd, Parsley, Polk, Fisher, etc.) so the feeder programs at Lascassas, Kittrell, Central, and even McFadden need to be aplauded and mentioned in the same sentence with Siegel Middle. Each program has obviously developed their players to a great degree. Don't forget about Coach Revvis and Hawks too! /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

And btw you say SMS's field is better than many high school fields? I sure can't think of any high school fields around here that are not up to standards...

  15. QUOTE(riverdaleman @ Apr 25 2007 - 04:17 PM) 826445255with all the talent that oakland has he should be winning like this...in fact his team has really underachieved prior to this year

i think cookevilles coach also has to be put in the COY talk

Cookeville's coach? How do you expect a coach whose district record is 4-8? The most wins he can have is 6...and he'd still be 2 games under .500! Definitely going to be between Revvis and Hawks!

  16. QUOTE(#1VolsFan @ Apr 18 2007 - 09:05 PM) 826440697does anyone know the final in the cookeville riverdale game?

CoachT's scoreboard says Cookeville 14, Riverdale 13....woooooow!! I sure never expected that kind of high scoring game from cookeville.

  17. We had a conversation about this topic in one of my classes today, did some research on it, and we came to find that the scoreboard isn't breaking any commercial ordinances because Oakland Baseball is a non-profit organization who raised the funds for the scoreboard by themselves. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> BTW my opinion is if it's distracting to drivers then they should just keep their eyes on the road!

  18. QUOTE(hasbeen7 @ Apr 14 2007 - 04:19 PM) 826437523Extremely well said - a little wordy, but well said. I agree that "fluke" cannot explain a 7 inning loss in a baseball game. If so, then I guess it could have been a "fluke" that Oakland beat us in the Warrior Classic when we threw our #4/5 pitcher and had to withstand the homefield advantage (with the PA system/announcing, K-Mart special blue lights, etc.) in a tournament that IMO should not have games with said advantage. Oakland is good, but definitely not above being "upset".

You must be a USJ fan that still isn't used to getting run ruled /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
