1. There is no good way to order the teams where everyone will be happy. Because most of these teams do not play each other during the season and do not play similar teams, the blind draw is the most fair way to do it. The only other thing that I think they could do is make sure that teams from adjoining regions do not play each other in the first round, like Manassas and Humboldt. To do it any other way allows way too much speculation and personal interest to become involved.

There are no bad teams in the bracket. As far as standings go Temple certainly did land in the easier side of the bracket but every team still has to bounce the ball down the court and put it in the basket and try to keep the other team from doing the same.

I may be mistaken, but I believe one year, Temple went to the state with an undefeated record or one loss, was ranked #1 or #2 in the state and was put out in the first round. One year, Temple was the underdog, the weaker team in the tournament, and beat a very good Ezell team for the title. It is anyone's game.

I understand that it really is the best way, but I agree the that adjoining regions like you said should not play first.

  2. ok the whole deal with a gimmick defense is if your players are smart enough to recognize it--have you ever seen an inverted triangle and two? Just to let ya know what it is is instead of it being one guy at the line and two on two on the blocks, it is two at the line and one under the basket. By running that, you deny the pass from the top underneath and it is very confusing for the offensive players. Poeple may want to look up Mitch Osborne from Harlan Iowa and look at the way he runs gimmick defense. Best I have ever seen at it. He has even been know not to invert the triangle but just to twist it and have two guys on one side and one on the other side (of the lane that is). I am sure someone can pop out a d that can confuse the Humbolt guys---dont crow too much until you get the gold ball!!!

Oh i understand your view, I have seen it any college ball just not in high school, not crowing at all just letting you know I am not sure that would work, but who knows since I have only seen it once. Not looking for any tips but your team runs this defense? cause if so I would like to come see your game.

  3. (from Grace Baptist) I think it's kind of a shame. I have to admit I hope Temple gets beaten early on. It's not that I don't love my neighbor--I just can't stand it if they win this way.

Thanks. So I know we cant change the draw but just for fun how do you think they sould set the bracket? Let the coaches, TSSAA officials, and some media vote on it or what?

  4. Sure, but both teams better forget all that stuff right about ....NOW. You can't do anything about what you can't control, and the more talk about that means the less concentration on the assignment at hand - win the game that you have been given. I actually think this favors Manassas a little, too. Humbolt would have surely had a larger crowd on the weekend. Now, some of that will probably be lost. Also, despit what some on this thread say, Manassas has been here before. Last year in the boro, plus this year Manassas played a couple games in St Louis that were televised and packed with the other team's crowd, and in Memphis played a couple times against some very good AAA teams and the place was a zoo - far more exciting than the Lake County game. So, my point is, Humbolt is VERY good, but it would have been very advantageous for them to have had a couple games under their belt in the Boro to get a feel for it all before being tossed into it against Manassas on day One at 10:00 am against arguably the other best team in the state, when that team certainly has more experience at this than Humbolt does. I'm not syaing that Manassas will win because of this, I'm just saying it is a legitimate dynamic and I think it gives Manassas an advantage.

Remember now we have been to the boro three of the past four years and our seniors may not have played alot but have the experience.

  5. A gimmick defense such as that one won't help against Humboldt...Way too many weapons...It's not a one or two man show...All 5 starters have been in the double figures routinely as well as a couple of guys off the bench...

The diamond box and one would definitely not work at all cause like red said too many weapons. You might sut down one with it but with the diamond backside rebound is open all day and too many good looks are there if you spread the floor right. Plus I have not seen many high school teams in the last ten years that are disciplined enough to run that kind of tough defense, not saying you cant just that those are not easy.

  6. you will see it all. You will certainly see a press, you will see a half court trap, you will see a man, and maybe some 2-3, but only if foul trouble comes. Humbolt has the size, but Manassas is faster. No need to waste that advantage sagging in the paint in a 2-3. Manassas will try to keep the tempo up, get in the passing lanes for steals, and expect Buckner to be more defensive minded and assist producing. Manassas is going to just try to beat Humbolt to the basket on offense with quickness and create havoc with traps and steals on defense. Should be a great game, and the truth is if either team was going to win it all, then they would in all liklihood have had to face one another eventually, so who cares about the draw - it is time to just get it done.

Thank you for an honest reply, but we both know we would have rather seen this game in the finals, just cause the atmosphere on Saturday with the packed house and everyone else watching! Gotta love March Madness!

  7. I know what everyone from the West thinks about it, but I want to hear from the other teams in what they think about the Humboldt/Manassas game first round. And please look at it from a realistic non-biased view. How do you see the game being played out and winners and who you would like to play?

  8. Aha---I figured it out. The reason Humbolt fans are upset is because they got what they wanted, just not the way they wanted. Just a theory here, but I am guessing that the Humbolt fans wanted Manassas in the opposite half with either Grace or Temple in the hopes of one of them pulling off an upset so that you really didnt have to go through them. And even if you did have to go through them, it would have been in a later round after some tough games. Guess what--You got what you wanted, so deal with it. When they pull names out of a hat and the rules of who can not play cuase they from the same region, what were the odds anyway. Had Collinwood beaten CA, then Cwood would have had to been in the opposite bracket, butg they didnt and they Eagles end up with a good draw. You got what you want, now go out and back it up. SHS took care of business in the regional getting Cully like they wanted, so now is your time. Lets see waht ya got. And for the one that brought up Eagleville, SHS dominated that game and had a 16 pt lead going into the fourth--it wasnt a "only beat them by 10" deal. Know your facts!!

Humboldt is not going to lay down just cause we got them in the first round, we wanted to play them did not wnat them to be put out early. To be the best, you have to take out the best, but why would anyone in there right mind want to play what we consider the best team first. We want the tv rating to be high so we could catch them in the finals, assuming we both could get there. We are not griping cause thats the way it happened, just stated that we would rather play in the finals. Its all good though, good luck to all teams.

  9. I agree. How do you think Manassas will play us? I figured they would play us in a 2-3 and make us hit the 3's, which is probably how we are going to play them too. Also, if they do play us in a 2-3, we're going to need Tevin or Charles to flash at the free-throw line and get the ball to draw out Buckner. If he doesn't come out then go ahead and take the shot from there. If he pops out on you, then feed it to the backdoor cutter and SLAM it home!

Great analysis of the zone there Dickie V, I mean frankieD! Lol... I too feel like it will be zone for them but maybe Legend can enlighten us but he will think we are looking for their "secrets." If they do go man, I give Humboldt the edge cause whoever Buckner is not guarding will have some good one on one looks.

  10. I agree somewhat with you, but no matter hows you seed teams or draw, somebody is not going to be happy, every team gos to the BORO planning on winning 3 games anyway, so lets just play it out i cant wait to see Manassass and Humboldt play , we are getting a treat, they play first and winner will WIN State.

Oh I understand that you cant make everyone happy, just being realistic about it. Lets not get ahead of ourselves about winner being the champs, but they will be heavily favored. No disrespect to the other teams, but I know for a fact that Lake Co still deserves some respect and I hate it that we cant have like a 16 team tourney cause they would have a great chance of winning the bottom part of the bracket.

  11. I do like Humboldt in this game...Buckner will block some shots and make some plays, but it's going to be hard for him to handle Crayton, Taylor, Dunbar, and Porter coming from every direction playing above the rim...We'll just have to play our game and take care of the basketball..

I agree, not saying Humboldt will win, so Legend dont freak out. I do think Humboldt might have a slight edge, and I know they want to avenge the lost from last season. Also, I am interested to see how much Buckner has improved from last season, cause its not every year that we get to see the #30 overall player in the nation play in a Single A game. Good luck to both teams.

  12. Hey guys you have to win 3 games why does it matter in what order they are to be the best you gotta beat the best, TIP IT UP, LETS PLAY !!!!!!!!!!!!

Lets just play out some scenarios real quick just hypothetical situations, nobody get jumpy. Lets say Manassass beats Humboldt on a last second shot by buckner in double ot 85-84. They play Grace Baptist and beat them by 5 in a well fought game, Temple runs through the bottom of the bracket without breaking a sweat, and then (still hypothetical) Manassas beat Temple by 30 in the Finals. How can you say that the order does not matter? That would be an example of how the top of the bracket is stopped and one of the other two (Grace Or Humboldt) should have been on the other side. Like I said already let UCONN and Carolina play in the first round of the tourney, its still the same right, no order matters. Just observing....

  13. Who's your favorite in the tournament??

I really like Memphis (best defensive team in the country) but I think UConn is going to win it all..

Man i have no idea, i think this year is a complete toss up and some random 5 seed might win it. As a carolina fan, I like their chances if they get lawson healthy, but lets not stray away from the shenanigans in the boro! Lets all pray for a Humboldt/Manassass 7 OT game so we can trump the Uconn/Syracuse game!

  14. I wasn't even going to be able to make it up there until Thursday...Now, I'm going to have to figure something out in order to get up there...I think it is hilarious that not only did they put us against each other in the 1st round, but the 1st game of the tournament, 10:00 Wednesday morning...Not sure how I'm going to be able to pull this off..

Well I hope you get it figured out cause I know this is the game you wanted to see, just not this early. And you would think the TSSAA would get smart and at least push this game til the afternoon so they can get that $$$$! Looking forward to this one red.

Not going to complain about the road to the finals for every team, but you Temple fans have to see this from another point of view. You cannot say that you have to win 3 games either way, you cannot compare grace baptist, manassas, and humboldt to summertown, cloudland, and clarksv. academy, no disrespect to them, but these are the three hottest teams in the state.

  15. QUOTE(OLDSCHOOL44 @ Mar 18 2007 - 11:28 AM) 826416181Lets rank the teams at the Boro I think it would be Temple, Humboldt, Wartburg ,Chatt. Arts and Scien., Culleoka, East Lit. ,Westside, and Cloudland what does everyone else thinh

I agree with the top three, but the thing that bothers me is the way the tournamnet is set up. These three teams were the best and they were all on the same side of the bracket. Coming into the tournamnet everyone knew that Temple and Humbodlt were the teams to beat. I would like to see a ranking format so that you can avoid the two best teams playing each other in the semis.

  16. This was a great game for the second half. The way the second half was played was the way I thought the whole thing would have been.

Well I guess I take the first hit since the other Humboldt fans have not had time to get home.

First off, congratulations to Temple, y'all played great and I was very impressed with how you played. Skogen is the real deal and y'all came out on fire in the first half. I was not underestimating y'all I just thought Humboldt would have won. But, I hope y'all win it all because y'all showed a lot of class and played the game the way it was to supposed.

Congratulations to humboldt on a great season and I really enjoyed watching you guys play this year.

If Humbodlt would have played the way they did in the second half in the first, I think they would have won. Y'all saw the real Humboldt team in the second half, but hey you have to play two halves to win the game. They dug a ditch to deep. It took a lot of heart, but also a lot of energy to make that kind of a comeback.

This is not a complaint or the reason they lost, but I was not impressed by the officiating, it was below par.

One question for the Temple fans and those who saw the game: Did you agree with the intentional foul in the second quarter?

I am not going to take anything away from Temple, y'all won outright and best of luck tomorrow!

  17. QUOTE(frankieD12 @ Mar 15 2007 - 03:38 PM) 826413159im glad you base your opinion on humboldt for their freethrow shooting in one game...and then say that they shouldn't be in the tournament...yea...we were 14-34 from the freethrow line...still had more points than you did...as a matter of fact, out of all of the game played yesterday including 2A...humboldt had the 2nd most points score in the whole tournament (4 less than liberty...also from the west /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) and that was humboldt's off night...wait until you see them when they are on which will be friday against temple since they have that amazing D...im going to go ahead and change my prediciton...Humboldt 83 Temple 59...put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Man, frankie d! You are feeling confident today! I hope that is the score but I am going to stick with my prediction: Humbodlt 68 Temple 58.
