  1. This should be a great ball game. You know Lamar will be out to get Jim for the thumping they got in the District.

Clarkrange played very well tonight against Red Boiling Springs. Not only did they shoot the ball well, but their zone defense kept our guards from getting the ball down low all night long. If an RBS post player wanted to get the ball, they had to run high to get it. Not a great night for the Red faithful. I'm sad to see one of our most successful seasons come to an end.

Good luck to 7A on the road to the state!

  2. QUOTE(BuffaloFan @ Feb 20 2007 - 06:18 PM) 826381650[/snapback]Guys we are in a big hole. We are not playing good ball right now. Gotta travel to a tough first round game in a hostile environment (Westmoreland or Gordonsville). We can't even think about RBS yet, and they are smokin' hot right now. Anybody got a ladder, so we can try to climb out......danba????anyone???

ps...congrats RBS on the district championship. Swanson, 1/3 of your prediction has come true. Question: When was the last district title for RBS? just curious.

Hey BuffaloFan...If I'm not mistaken, this was our first district championship since 1989.

  3. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Red Boiling Springs isn't going away that quickly. Sure we are losing four seniors of which three get major playing time. However, we have plenty of talent on the team besides those three. The next few years should be very interesting because neither Jackson Co., Clarkrange, or even Monterey lose hardly anyone from this year's teams. But let's get this post-season over with before we start talking about next season!

Good luck to everyone the rest of the tournament!

  4. None of the coaches in our area would have it in them to purposely lose a game. I know they would go to great lengths to win but they would NEVER stoop that low. They do know the consequences of winning and losing and where it will get you in the post season, but they're not purposely going to lose.

Jackson County has a lot to play for. They're trying to prove everyone wrong about their ability to make it back to the state again this year.

Red Boiling Springs has a lot to play for...no district championship in many years, and they will be ready to take the crown from Jackson County after last year's district and region championships.

Clarkrange has a lot to play for... they aren't going to lose two games in a row...period.

  5. Great post hilltopdawg!

I'm going to step into this conversation and take up for Laken because I know she deserves all the respect in the world. That girl has worked hard for EVERYTHING she has gotten. You don't find many teenagers who spend their free time in a gym working on their strength, jump shot, defensive skills, etc. as Laken does. And it's not the fact that her parents have pushed her either...she works hard at her own free will. I wish everyone had the grit and determination that she had. I know her and her family well and believe me, they're not gloating on the fact that their child is a star athlete. They are a great down to earth and Christian family. They want her to be the best...but they don't beg for attention for Laken...they want to see the entire team do well first and foremost. And speaking of the team, we are not taking anything away from the rest of the girls by congratulating Laken. As it has been said, without the skills and unselfishness of the rest of the team Laken couldn't have accomplished the things she has. If by getting on here and praising Laken is offensive to the rest of the team or their parents, it should not be because the rest of you are getting the praise you deserve as well.

  6. I am from nearby Red Boiling Springs and I absolutely hate to see Hermitage Springs High School go away. I never went to school there...but I know several people who went there and several who live in that community. It hurts to know that it is finally going to happen. We have battled consolidation here in Macon Co. in the past as well and we surely know it's a sensitive subject. If any of the students want to come on over to Red Boiling Springs...I know it would be much closer for travel time and our athletic programs would love to have you!

  7. It is just unbelieveable the amount of talent that there is in this district. Clarkrange is the 1 seed with the region berth...and I believe they are in the toughest side of the brackets because they are right there with Jackson Co. And Jackson Co. isn't out of the woods either because they were beaten by Pickett Co. a few weeks ago to everyone's surprise. I don't question Red Boiling Springs's ability to make it to the championship at all, but they will have their hands full when they get there.

  8. Devil...I agree completely. It is so much harder these days to get girls teams to come to the tournament. But I do think we should make more of an effort to get some of the schools around Sumner Co., Robertson. Co. Davidson Co., or even a team or two from Southern Kentucky. Two major factors hurting our tournament are 1)More and Bigger Tournaments during that time and 2)Travel Time for other schools.

  9. Personally, I don't want to see it dropped either. If there were a way to play it a few days earlier so it did not coincide with so many of the other area tournaments. Not only do you have the Midsouth Classic during that time, but now Trousdale Co. is beginning to have a tournament. With so many new ones, it's hard to grab enough teams to field a decent-sized tournament. I just don't like seeing the girls only having two visiting teams while the boys have enough for a great pool-play tournament. It's very disappointing and I think our girls, coaches, and community deserve more than that.

  10. I hate to say it, but I think it's time the Lady Dawgs start playing in other tournaments...such as the Midsouth Classic...and let the boys hold the Christmas Tournament for themselves. They would have excellent competition and not be far from home.

  11. Thanks for the backup Watcher!

Not only does success breed success for those winning programs, but it tends to make everyone else in the district better as well because while one team is leading the pack, others in that district have to find a way to make ends meet and catch up or even top their best competition. By doing so, they're making themselves better and making the district they're playing in much better. Take a look at the championships by year. In the late 70's, Pickett Co. was on top. Then on their heels were the girls from Clarkrange in the early 80's. The two went back and forth over the course of the 80's and 90's then Celina starting challenging for the state.

And look at who's on a great path this year...Red Boiling Springs.

The same pattern seems to be building in your area as well Jamie...Forrest won last year and now Richland is on the right track.

  12. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade...but history proves itself that 7A has what it takes to earn a state championship.

    Pickett County: Gold- 77, 78, 79, 80, 89

    Clarkrange: Gold- 83, 84, 85, 90, 91, 95, 04

    Jackson Co. *In Class AA*: Gold- 73, 00, 01, 02, 03

Not to mention the numerous runners-up and state appearances by the others in the district.

  13. I know that Red Boiling Springs didn't play a very tough schedule before Christmas. However, their play in Scottsville made a huge statement about their ability to hang with the best in Tennessee Class A. When you can play four nights in a row as solid as they did, you are tournament ready. They defeated a Tennessee AAA team in Gallatin, another 1,000+ enrollment school in Louisville Iroquois, and one of the best teams in southern Kentucky...and possibly all of Kentucky, undefeated Franklin-Simpson. If they can handle pressure like that four nights in a row, I think they could easily handle four games in a week in late February and early March with three region games and a sub-state game all in a week's time.

I can't wait until the Clarkrange matchups, it should be exciting!
