1. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY A COACH WOULD BUNT WITH 2 OUTS AND RUNNER ON 3rd. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

Ask Almeda she knows....and has passed the secret to her replacement!!!!

  2. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Congratulations on a job well done!!! You have made your parents, family, friends, school, town, and surrounding area very proud of how you represented all of us. You never quit and accomplished something that has never been done in any sport at Cherokee High School history!!! Keep up the great ball playing..... we all hope to hear big things from your futures!!!

  3. Granted, this early in the season it is tough to get meaningful information from strenth of schedule.

But, Cherokee has lost three games by a total of 4 runs to teams that have a combined record of about 30 wins and 4 losses. Of those 4 losses, one was to each other and 2 of the other 3 were to private schools in Chatanooga. That's where the strength of schedule is.

Here is another interesting method to evaluate where teams really are this early in the seasson. Take a look at the graph coacht provides on the "analyze this schedule" link. Project a best fit line to the data points on the chart to get an estimate of shere the line would cross zero. This point on the X-axis is an estimate of where that team's long term winning percentage would be based on who they have played so far and the run differential in those games.

    Cherokee's link: http://tennessee.coacht.com/inside/schedul...amp;seasonid=69

This chart would indicate the long term win percentage of Cherokee might be in the 85% to 90% range.

The same analysis on JC indicates a long term winning percentage of around 60%.

I know.....way too much analysis, but interesting, don't you think.

Wow.....you're smart statman!!! You can tell it is raining outside and you can't be at the field!!!!

  4. QUOTE(statman3 @ May 14 2007 - 10:49 PM) 826459291Senior(s)????....how about senior!....and we are sad to see her go....but the chiefs will be back to compete again.

Great high school career, Kristen, we will follow you closely at Virginia Intermont.

Mr. Statman...I thank you and Kristen thanks you and big daddy thanks you. It has been great!!! This group of girls that Kristen got to finish her senior year with mean the world to us!!! We will keep up with all of them and are sure we will be hearing big things from them all...whether it be on the diamond or something else.

You tell Ms. Whitney that Kristen has now handed that torch to her....(even if she earned it long before now) and for her to keep up the good work and break any records ever set at Cherokee. Tell her that change up is wrapped up and waiting for her to grab it (she can do it!!!).

To all the Lady Chiefs......The Dyer's love everyone of you and will miss seeing, hearing and hugging you all...but remember we are watching and wanting you to go ALL THE WAY NEXT YEAR!!!!

To Almeda, Charlie, and Kelli....THANK YOU for 4 great years....we have had our ups and downs...but it has been the experience that you three have allowed Kristen to have that has helped shape her into the young lady she is today.....and I do have to say that is one GREAT LADY!!!!

To ALL her IMAC opponnents... WOW what can I say...you all have been the best competitiion that any pitcher could ask for....it is the fact of pitching and playing against that GREAT competiiton that has also shaped Kristen into a player that is able to compete at the next level. To those of you that have a special place in our heart and you know who you are...we will be looking and listening for great things....and don't be surprised to see those Dyer's in the stands supporting you.

Best for last.....GOD...thank you for Kristens health, heart, desire, talent and ALL things you have given us!!!!!

Now all that being said.............................................GO TROJANS!!!........................Represent the IMAC!!!!!!!!

    GO LADY CHIEFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will tell you.....ALMEDA is pitching and you all better watch out...she has an evil curve!!!!!!

  6. QUOTE(ladypatsSB14 @ May 10 2007 - 04:44 AM) 826456169

Best wishes to the Lady Chiefs. They deserve to win a state title, but with all of the Knoxville teams, competion will be hard. All of Jefferson Co. is pulling for Cherokee! Go get 'um Ladies!

    Thank you for the support!!!!!

No matter the turn out I hope the IMAC represents in regions and STATE!!!!!

  7. QUOTE(mwtfan @ May 9 2007 - 07:20 PM) 8264557932 huge hits from the ouststanding group of seniors. 1 by Dixon with 2 outs & (I believe) 2 strikes to score the tying run in the bottom of the 7th, and then a walk-off dinger by Jackson in the 8th. Both teams had a couple of miscues, and it was a very hard-fought game as the pressure of an elimination game was very evident. I wish all the East seniors good luck - I have enjoyed watching you play ball & will continue to keep an eye on some of you at the next level.

Anyone know anything about tonight's winner's bracket finals game between Science Hill & DB?

    Science Hill won...either 3 to 1 or 4 to 1

  8. QUOTE(raiderray @ May 7 2007 - 11:41 AM) 826453538Congrats to Kaela Jackson for signing with ETSU. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! To my pick for the BEST catcher in the IMAC!!!

    Great job Kaela...you deserve it!!!!

Can't wait to see you in action up there.

  9. QUOTE(Lance @ Apr 26 2007 - 07:55 AM) 826445765Settle down TNsoftball fan. No harm intended towards your opinion and especially to Gilbert. I appreciate your opinion. When it comes to pitching its easier to find fiction than fact. I want to know what development others have experienced. I have seen some development, but rarely anything earth shattering. Try not to take me too serious -- I'm full of myself.

No harm taken...just loving the fact that the IMAC is full of great players and teams that cause the opinionated to step up!!!!!

These coin flips are becoming second nature for the IMAC.....YOU GOT TO LOVE IT!!!!!

  10. QUOTE(Lance @ Apr 25 2007 - 08:12 PM) 826445476On the subject of pitching -- I read comment about Gilbert being unhittable as a Senior if she kept improving. I've seen the Pokester in action and rumors of a fastball exceeding 70 mph.

It seems to me that low 50's is more common than high 50's. What I'm getting at -- is how much have any of you really seen pitching improve (ie speed). A good pitcher working hard can improve her skill and certainly can add a pitch or two to make her tougher. Rarely have I seen a pitcher offer dramatic change from Freshman to Senior. They get a little bigger - stronger, but I don't see speed changing that much. I'm wondering what most have seen. I've seen a Freshman that throws 58 mph and is throwing 55 as a Senior.

To read on the subject -- some pitches require 3 years or better to master (IE rise ball), not to mention they need to exceed a certain velocity. How many enter high school, continuing to work on their game.

I guess it just seems the exception rather than the rule. How much better will Cherokee pitcher get for example.

Finally -- as far as being unhittable -- I saw Candice Irwin get hammered for 7 runs a couple of weeks ago and she is as good as I have seen this year.

Anyway -- what have you seen? mwtfan -- I believe you coach -- what have you seen?

First I want everyone to understand that what I put on here is merely my OPINION and/or PREDICTION (Lance).....and by the way I love any opportunity to voice my opinion!!!! Which most of you could and/or should care less about.

I did say that Gilbert MIGHT be unhittable by her senior year.

As we know a good pitcher learns the most from game experience and MY OPINION is that the more games she pitches the more she will mature and learn. I feel she will pick up some speed and definitely will fine tune that arsenal of pitches she has before her senior year. As a sophomore she has already proved to be one of the top pitchers in East TN....and once again MY OPINION...the state. Most of the games that she loses are caused by those pesty ERRORS.

I PREDICT that we will be hearing "more" great things about Miss Gilbert!!!!

FYI...I am not in any way related to her....I am just a big FAN and love to watch her in action!!!! Just as I love to watch Pokey, India, Katie,Tori, Dyer and any pitcher that has worked hard to get better!!!!!

  11. QUOTE(mwtfan @ Apr 25 2007 - 02:33 PM) 826445218The question was: "How is that unearned?" My point was: we weren't given enough information to answer the question.

It has been my experience that most people don't really understand what an earned run is. For example, a lot of people do not understand that a walked batter who later scores on a hit is an earned run.

    Point taken. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  12. QUOTE(mwtfan @ Apr 25 2007 - 01:35 PM) 826445174It would depend on how the runners that were on 2nd & 3rd got there and how many outs there were. If either of those runners reached base by error and then later scored, that run would be unearned. Also, if at any point (prior to the hit you are referring to) an error was made on a play that would have ended the inning, any run scored after that point would be considered unearned. Example: leadoff batter reaches by error, moves to 2nd on a sac bunt (1 out). Runner then scores on a double by the next batter. This is an unearned run because that runner reached by error. Now, the number 4 batter strikes out (2 outs). The number 5 hitter is batting and hits an easy pop-up foul that is dropped by the 3rd baseman who is charged with an error. Next pitch, the number 5 batter hits one over the left field fence for a 2 run homer. You've now scored 3 runs & 2 of them off a home run, but they are all unearned. The last 2 are unearned because the 3rd basemen dropped a ball that would have ended the inning. If the offensive team now proceeds to hit 20 homeruns with 2 outs, every run is unearned.

    Wikipedia's earned run explanation

I don't think they are questioning what an unearned run is....they are just saying they seen no errors...and the other book says there was errors.

  13. QUOTE(JC#1fan @ Apr 25 2007 - 09:46 AM) 826444983I don't know who is wanting to pad Gilbert's stats, she is good enough without it. Hill clocked one off of the center field fence off of Dyer, then she later ripped one off of Gilbert that one-hopped the right fielder and was still too hot to handle, scoring the runners that were on 2nd and 3rd. How is that unearned? While we're on the subject. How did Hill from JCHS not make all tournament team in Tiny Day tournament She pitched 3 complete games and was brought in trailing North Greene 4-2and proceeded to get the win 8-4. She was the winning pitcher in 4 games with no losses, while the pitchers that faced her and lost all games against her made all tournamnet, one being MVP of her pool, and another having 2 losses. How did they come up with that?

In defense of the Gilbert pitching....I don't think anyone is trying to pad her stats...because she definitely does not need that. She is a great pitcher...and most of the runs scored on her are unearned. That does not mean she is unhittable...just hurts when someone gets a hit followed by errors or errors then they get a hit....which seems to happen to her alot. But if she keeps improving... the way she is pitching...she just might be unhittable by her senior year!!!!!

  14. QUOTE(JC#1fan @ Apr 25 2007 - 09:46 AM) 826444983I don't know who is wanting to pad Gilbert's stats, she is good enough without it. Not positive .....because I did not attend this game....but hearing from a player...I believe the error that they would have been referring to would have probably been on the third baseman. Some people call it an error some call it a hit...just a matter of who is keeping the books...but I do know the third baseman did say her glove never touched the ball in the attempt to play the ball....but who knows....and at this time and point there is nothing that can change it..so who cares.

Yes... welcome to high school sports where books are kept by parents (MY SELF INCLUDED)...and most college coaches are not interested in high school stats for that reason.

One thing we should all remember...that in every play a decision has to be made...if that play is close...no matter what someone comes out on the losing end.

This is a valuable lesson that I have had to learn to live with.

  15. QUOTE(Lance @ Apr 20 2007 - 09:11 AM) 826441761Be careful TNsoftballfan -- Don't rile the big Indian just before District.

mwtfan -- you guys popping champaign today or awaiting an out-right claim on the title? Let me know -- I love a party!

Oh Well...you know what they say about the TRUTH!!!!

    IT HURTS...sometimes.

  16. QUOTE(Lance @ Apr 20 2007 - 07:35 AM) 826441687Jefferson County -- you little rascals. Great job, especially putting 5 on the Chiefs. That had to be a tough game to come back and play after Wednesday, but I'm sure the Chiefs will get it back together soon enough.

Jeff -- a late season move -- or just opening the door for the Lady Canes -- or Chiefs offering a glimmer of hope only to yank the rug out from the rest.

How exciting for the IMAC. Stay tuned "bat" fans. Same "bat" time -- Same "bat" channel. Lance is sooooooooooooooooooo punny.

Didn't make it to the Jeff County game..but it sounds like the Chiefs need some "BAT" practice.

  17. GREAT pitching from both pitchers....just a few more errors on one side. But all in all it was a great game to see....and hopefully the rematch will be better. Congrats to the winners...and Congrats to the losers for a good game.....keep up the good work girls...this will make for a interesting district tourament.

But one at a time.....Go Chiefs...get those Patriots.

  18. QUOTE(mwtfan @ Apr 18 2007 - 07:46 AM) 826440169I think we get in in today. No rain here yet, and my knees and ankles feel fine - rain will stay away. I see what you mean about the radar though.

We should ....we all know West has the best field in East Tennessee...and probably the STATE.

MWTFAN have you got that tarp across that field...like the major leagues???????

I believe I do smell the steaks on the grill (I like mine Medium Well too).....just maybe it will be SOFTBALL time in MOTOWN!!!!

    Hope to see you there!!!!!
