  1. Call it anything you like, call it Henrietta Louise if it pleases you. We call it a travesty, because it was forced on us after decades of playing together in three classifications. It comes down in large part to BA thumping Loretto and Riverdale in play-off games over a period of years. In a previous era (known as "the '60's and '70's"), coaches would take losses as an incentive to work harder and prepare the teams better, and to look forward to a rematch. This was an era of giants among coaches...the Warren Dunns, Garland Russells, Nick Coutras, Wes Elrod, Ernest Smallen et al (I confine the list to Nashville area coaches because I'm familiar with them, but it was the same all over). Now of course, we're ruled by pygmies. If my team can't beat yours, you must be cheating. And the kids need to feel good regardless of whether they've accomplished anything or not, so let's have 8 state football championships for a relatively small state.

You're right...it's not much of a state championship. And if you'll persuade the TSSAA to let us come back, I venture to say that almost all of these schools would be happy to reintegrate into the 6A group. It would reduce our travel costs considerably. And when the TSSAA does this, I'll host the party. I'll plan on barbecuing a unicorn.

(I'm mindful, respectful, and supportive of Coach T's rules regarding no profanity. But know if this conversation had been held in a bar, I'd have blistered the varnish off the tables over this nonsense.)

kwoodroof, thank you for that post. You said in a few paragraphs what most all of us have felt for a long time. We all travel all over the place....because we have no other choice. Don't expect it to ever change again....but if those complaining about us (sandlot) would complain to those that made us change...and let us back in....I will co-host that party with you. We are all sick of this ridiculous topic.

  2. I think all the D2 schools are founded on fine Christian principles and it doesn't serve anyone well to get into a size measuring contest on whose is better than the others. Each school is different in their philosophy on the best way to go about things and as such one must find the right fit for teachers, coaches and students.

I'm not going to put words in the mouth of anyone but one must remember that comments in articles can be taken out of context and that sound bytes are not the whole story. In my experience with Coach Potter, I have not seen him to be demeaning or bullying, demanding yes.

I'm not sure a football message board is where we need to debate our religious philosphy and emphasis or which school is more Christian than the other.

Bluemom, that was the point I was trying to make right before I read your post. You did a better job. Just takes one or two people to stir it up. BA will get a good coach. McCallie is glad to have Potter back and soon all will be well in D2 again.

  3. You are exactly right! These are totally different schools. BA was built on the fundamental belief of raising up kids to the glory of God first. BA has the mission to mentor, nurture, & encourage the whole person..,body,mind and spirit. Those are the families BA attract and coaching those kinds of kids require a different attitude than demeaning & bullying.

Have no idea what McCallie values are since they seem to be so different that Potter is more attacked to them to want to go back.

I am a fan of Baylor. I have been reading this thread and have watched it slowing deteriorate. I can imagine you being irritated by what the McCallie fan said....but it was just one person. Now, you have done the same thing defending BA. We all love our schools and want to defend them when we feel they are attacked. I get that. But do it without trying to bring down the other one down.

You can't judge a school by what one or two people say. If so, we would all be in trouble.

What I do know is that BA, McCallie, Baylor, Ensworth and all of the other D2 schools are all fine schools. All have great values, tremendous educational opportunities, teach honor, community service and on and on.

We all are proud of our respective schools. We should be. But we should also be respectful of all. Only maybe one from each school has not done that. Let's not judge a school but one person.

  4. Explaining good sarcasm is a lot like dissecting a frog. You learn a lot, but the frog dies.

The Ensworth QB is the sone of the Ensworth coach and his wife. He attends EHS at no charge because of his father's employment. Had Ricky stayed at MBA, he would have gone there at no charge.

I apologize for, and am amazed by the confusion I've caused here.

I thought it was a great post....laughed about it. I think 90% of the people knew it was sarcasm. Anyone else just did not know the Bowers situation. Keep the sarcasm coming....makes for an interesting read.

  5. After the fast start and big plays by Ensworth...Baylor could just not get it going. Kudos to Ensworth for winning the championship. They certainly played like champions. Hope Corn Elder is ok. They did not miss a beat with #7 playing in his place. Disappointing way to end an otherwise fantastic season for Baylor.

  6. A well deserved congratulations to the winners of DII's Mr.Football. The lineman of the year is Baylor's Barrett Gouger who will be playing at Vanderbilt next year. Kicker of the year is Baylor's Henrique Ribeiro. He is amazing...if you haven't seen him kick...well, he is special. Trying to decide whether to pursue kicking in college or continue his soccer career. And to no ones surprise the back of the year is Corn Elder. What a talent. Congratulations also to the other finalists...awesome group of young men.

Well, all three winners will suit up for the championship game this Thursday night. I will be there wearing my red and cheering on Baylor! Again congratulations to all.

  7. Good game Baylor, it was a tough loss for our guys. I thought it was a great atmosphere, great crowd. We brought two times the fans BA brought to CBHS. That was a close game, and your boys won it. Good luck in the championship.

Brothers, CBHS brought a great crowd and the atmosphere was just fantastic. It was a great win for Baylor to get back to the championship game. I am sure it was a very tough loss for the players of CBHS..I know it doesn't help but they played a great game. It was just a very good football game. But Baylor has got to hold onto the ball....3 fumbles and one interception....happening too often. Thanks for your comments and good luck next year.

  8. MBA travels to Baylor this Friday to take on the Red Raiders. MBA has won 5 of our last 6 games and are playing good football now. Baylor is just a tremendous team in all aspects. I will be there rooting on MBA. I always enjoy my visit to Baylor's beautiful campus. Thoughts and opinions on the game?

Thanks MBARED for the kind comments on the Baylor campus. Hope you and the MBA fans come early for tailgating....but dress warm as the weather is going to be sunny but cold. MBA has certainly turned their season around winning 5 out of their last 6 games this year. I expect another hard hitting game. Be careful on your trip from Nashville. Here's to a great game, no injuries and a Red Raider victory.

  9. In what class is the kicker from Baylor (Ribeiro) and did he play goalie for the soccer team? He has a heck of a leg. That 52 yarder against McCallie looked as if it would have been good from 60.

He is a senior. Kicked what I believe was a 57 yarder earlier in year. Puts almost every kickoff through the endzone. Best high school kicker I have seen. And he was the goalie in soccer and will be again this year.

  10. A great high school football game...and the environment was second to none. Baylor just dominated the 1st half and seemed to continue where we left off with Ensworth. The second half we stopped McCallie on 3 and out. Baylor's fantastic kicker kicked a 52 yard field goal....and the Red seemed to make too many mistakes and play conservative. Costly penalties keep McCallie drives alive along with a Baylor fumble. McCallie took advantage of them and made it quite a game. Nice comeback by McCallie....but congratulations to the Baylor Red Raiders....the streak is alive and well at 4!

  11. There seesm to be a rejuvenated feeling at McCallie this year--good season so far and they think they can upset the Big Red. Remember, It was a good game for a good while last year and McCallie let a couple of bad plays get away from them. Add to that the fact that Baylor may be basking in its bashing of EHS, and this could be decided late.

There has been concern that Baylor is still on a high after bashing Ensworth. Couple that with what you are saying chattcity that McCallie is feeling good about having a better than expected season to date. I feel quite sure that Coach Massey and staff will bring the Red Raiders down to earth though. Heywood Stadium will be rocking tomorrow night anxiously awaiting the Red Raiders to extend our streak. Baylor will get it done. Go Red Raiders!

  12. To win this game Baylor will have to play a much better game than last week for sure. Finding a way to slow down Corn will be tough. Can't stop him....just try to keep him from breaking the big one. Should be a very good game between two very good teams. I expect a close game with Baylor winning 24-21 with Henrique Ribiero getting another field goal. He is perfect on the season...I think 4 for 4 with several over 40 and one over 50.

  13. Look for Baylor to keep pounding it out on the ground. Massey hasn't even opened up the playbook yet. There isn't any reason he should have. Mountain troll I think you clicked to many times.....the class A board is a few clicks back. You have about 100 more years of school before you can start posting on this board.....

Good to see another Red Raider posting! But as long as Mountain troll pulls for the real Baylor...it is fine with me. This should be an exciting game for us this Friday night. Expect a hard fought game. Heywood Stadium will be rocking...hopefully after a Red Raider victory. Go Baylor!

  14. The streak is at 3! What a fantastic win for Baylor. Hard to sweep a rival in any year...This was Baylor's year to do it. Again the O line very impressive as was Huesman. Now onto BGA next week. Keep it going Red Raiders on a tremendous year.

Absolutely bigred4life. To make it to the semifinals is just tremendous for Baylor. And to beat our rival to advance....makes it even sweeter.

  15. Being a Baylor fan I have seen BGA,BA, MBA,Father Ryan, Ensworth and McCallie. However, I have not seen BC or CBHS. I really don't know anything about them this year. Can anyone shed some light on those teams? Looks like the Red Raiders play the winner of the BC/McCallie game so I am very interested in how BC has fared this year.

I did a small amount of research and did see where CBHS finished in 1st place in the west. They beat MUS by a touchdown and beat Briarcrest 21-20. Looks like the west teams were pretty close this year.

  16. Baylor definitely has the easiest path to the State Championship game.

  17. I expect a very close game for sure. Have not seen Ensworth play but they are obviously a very talented team. Baylor has a very good offense and defense as well. If they don't have an answer for Huesman....then the Red Raiders win. Can't wait for this game as it should be a very good high school football games. Go Baylor!
