  1. What information is this statement based on that implies the Cookeville Ladies are much better than the Trotters? The Trotters beat the TN Storm to take the Second Seed in the East. Who have the Cookeville Ladies beat of note? The only team I am aware of that they have beat is Team Pride, which is not in the league with TN Storm.
  2. TN Express has the best post player I have seen. She is big and quick and finishes and she can shoot free throws.
  3. I have seen more skilled posts but not a more athletic post at 11U. She is far above decent in my humble opinion.
  4. I had predicted they would win the North Middle based on their size and athleticism. I basically agree with ptguards rankings but I think there could be some interesting games. In the Shelbyville SRT, CDF beat the Pearls by one on a buzzer beater and don't forget that the Trotters beat the TN Storm in the East. The TN Storm won the Shelbyville SRT, a tourney that included the Memphis Lady Tigers, TN Express and CDF.
  5. I think we have been watching different teams ptguard. I saw them in the Shelbyville Super Regional. The CDF team I saw is big, aggressive and quick. They mainly score on the inside. They have one of the best post players I have seen.
  6. Does anyone know what the score was in 11U Team Pride v Cookeville Ladies game?
  7. Anybody know who the 9U teams are that are entering the state? Which are the strongest?
  8. Here is what I wrote above: It obviously does not serve any purpose to intentionally run up the score by continuing to pressure or by keeping the starters in the game. It is demoralizing to the team on the losing end and the skills of the starters on the winning team are not being enhanced. The dilemma is when your second team is far superior to the losing team's first team. What do you tell your second team kids after you have stopped pressuring? Do you tell them not to play 100% and try not to score? I would never tell kids not to give 100%. Giving 110% is a habitual way of playing. I do not know what the circumstance was you are referring to. If the coach kept his/her first team in and continued to pressure, then that is senseless. If on the other hand, the score was run up because the second team played hard and kept scoring, then there is not much one can do about that. It seems to me that when you enter a substate these days you had better be able to play or or else find a less competitive tournament that better fits the talents of your team. I do not have first hand knowledge of the game in question but if you continue to pressure and press and wind up beating the opponent by 100 points then you have not managed the game in a sportsmanlike manner.
  9. Tiffany should have picked another game to work on her press. Besides being unsportsmanlike, I cannot imagine her second team got anything out of it.
  10. I gather they are playing North Middle? As it turns out, that would have been a better venue for the 11U.
  11. Actually, I never said that college recruiting only occurs at AAU tournaments. What I did say is that college recruitors focus on AAU events and the fact that they focus on AAU events drives much of the participation of talented girls in these events. I am not an expert on college recruiting and really don't know how much recruiting takes place at AAU events and how much takes place at high school games. But my impression is that AAU has become the main source of college recruiting. It makes sense. Why would a college recruitor travel to every small high school in the country to find players when you can go to a few "college exposure" tournaments and see all of the best players from around the country. I am sure that college recruitors still go to see some high school games but if you are a typical college recruit (not a superstar) I am told that your best chance of getting noticed is the big AAU tournaments. Others should chip in here who know much more about the recruiting process than I.
  12. How did the Tennessee Ladies do in Sub-state?
  13. An observation. The concentration of talent that has occurred in youth basketball has occurred in all the other kids sports -- soccer, baseball and softball. I can say that my kids have enjoyed select sports more than rec sports. They enjoy the challenge of a higher level of competition. And, if my vicarious enjoyment counts, I have enjoyed it more as a parent.
  14. I don't disagree with much here. A couple of points though. First, the concentration of talent begins at the earliest ages. Take a look at the 11U teams in the state tournament. FCA, Lady Elite, Trotters, Extreme, CDF are all very well established organizations that draw the best talent if in fact they do not recruit it. Second, very few girls that play for 'elite' AAU teams will ever play college ball and even fewer (maybe 2 or 3 from TN in a year) will play DI major. I think some parents are so focused in the college scholarship and ignore the odds so that they "overinvest" in AAU in terms of time and commitment.
  15. This phenomenon is driven largely by college basketball recruiting. College coaches can now go to a big AAU tournament and see the best basketball talent in the nation all in one venue. The talented kids go play for the elite teams that play these tournaments to gain exposure. All of the other considerations--playing for in your community and playing with kids you will go to middle school and high school with--fall by the wayside of the inexorable quest to play college ball and get exposed to recruitors.
  16. Is this better? just_do_itTM Sorry, could not resist.
  17. I believe the number of teams counted for the District Qualifying Tournament is all the teams across the state that played in substates. That would be 28 for 11U so according to the pages you cited Tennessee would get 3 bids. Since FCA and TN Express already have national bids, there will be at least 5 total bids for the 8 teams in the state. There will be more than 5 bids if other teams in the state pick up SRT bids between now and the state. I think there could be as many as 6 or 7 teams out of the eight in the state going to the nationals.
  18. What do you mean by an "average team"? Do you mean average among all the teams currently playing club basketball in TN? Or do you mean average among the 10-15 best teams in TN? Can you give an example of an "average team" that qualified through an SRT?
  19. Do I understand you correctly that Team Pride and the Cookeville Ladies are in the Loser Bracket Finals?
  20. Prediction is a little hazardous, isn't it? No one really expected the Trotters to beat the Storm. And in the South, the TN Pearls were overlooked. It will be interesting to see what happens in the North. How have the Cookeville Ladies done this year in tournament play?
  21. Results have been posted for the 11U West, East and South. Does anyone have any word on the North?

  25. Tne MC Magic are in the North, which is the one sub-state that does not appear to have a dominant team. If you are a good team but not in the class of the Express or The FCA team, then this year would have been the perfect year to head North. Any good team would have a chance of winning the North this year.
