1. I know girls championship is at 630 and boys following. 3rd place games before them with boys being at 5 and the girls at 330.

Not sure about the boys brackets, but Bledsoe plays Whitwell at 330 and Grundy plays Franklin County at 6:30. Should be some good games in Whitwell tonight. I plan on getting there in time to watch the girls 3rd place.

I did not start watching Grundy until probably mid 90's, but they are a team you always have to watch out for. I believe the tradition maybe coming back. Those girls seem hungry!!

Have you watched Bledsoe play this year? I was curious as to how Whitwell would match up with them. Thanks.

  2. Was a closer game in the beginning than I thought. 3rd quarter Grundy come out ready. Good win by the mountain girls! I am ready to watch them tomorrow night:)

It was a typical Grundy County girls team...Hustled, Pressed, Rebounded and had shooters. They played like that back in the late 80s when I was in school and nothing has changed. Congrats to them. Whitwell kept it closer than I thought they would in the first half with two starters not playing especially. I can tell you that the Grundy pressure took it's toll on Whitwell in the second half. Good Luck Lady Jackets....

  3. Now that the districts are completed we're down to 32! Here's the schedule for Monday.

    Silverdale Baptist at Whitwell

    Sale Creek at Grace Academy

Whitwell and Grace look like they are on a collision course for a rematch of last year's region final, but It would be foolish to look past a scrappy bunch from Sale Creek. Silverdale gave Grace a run in the District 5 final, losing 3-0, and may have something to say about things. Anyone got opinions?

I look for Whitwell to face Grace in a rematch but I would NEVER count out that bunch from Sale Creek. I don't think I have ever seen a team from Sale Creek not fight to the end. I would also like to say that the Sale Creek Lady Panthers have some of the classiest fans both in basketball and softball that I have come across. They (teams/fans) represent their community with class and it hasn't gone unnoticed by fans of a rival school. GO LADY TIGERS!!!!

  4. Here are some teams that should be above the rest this year. AAA---Riverdale, MJ, Beech, Rossview, Ooltewah, Soddy-Daisy, Beech

Dickson Co, AA-----Goodpasture, Greenbrier, Dekalb County, Lewis County, Spring Hill, Gibbs, Hixson

A-------Friendship Christian, Forrest, East Robertson , a dark horse in Monterey,

I agree with those. I would add Whitwell as your dark horse in single A. They return all of their starters and beat Monterey 11-1 in sub-state.

  5. there is no doubt about Marion county's duck call choir student section they are the loudest an rowdiest around

I can say this and I can say it because I went to Marion but have a kid that goes to Whitwell. I was looking forward to this Duck Call Choir thing. It is always great when students get into the game and get organized like that. I will say that I was disappointed in their actions during the girls' game but was glad to see that Coach Ellis showed class in going over there and from my vantage point telling the Choir to start showing theirs. I will chalk it up to kids being kids but they do need to remember that while supporting their school they are also representing it. In the end it was a great night for rivalry basketball in the valley, both sides gave all they had and the fans of both schools were totally into it. I have to give the Whitwell student section props for the Rainbow Warriors thing. I think Marion has the potential to be a very good team in the future but I will leave it at potential for now. It will all be how they evolve as individual players and as a team. The future should be very bright for the next couple of years if they work hard and Coach Keef learns as he goes along as he is a young coach in experience terms. On the Duck Call Choir thing, I hope to see them in the future but without the "potty mouths". LOL!!

  6. I agree TPP. I know some of the post are from kids and they know what they know for there age, but, ......Lets not forget Jeff Brown or Dewayne Walters on this list. If the 3 point line had been around when Dewayne was around he would have scored 40 a game! JB was one of the best all around BBallers at mc. A few listed on these list couldnt lace up Dw or JB shoes!!!

I agree with you on JB and DW. I also think PJ Brooks could be brought in the top 10. He could shoot it from the outside. I will say that the 3 pt line came in right after the '87 season and at least 7-8 players from that year's team could have drilled the treys (center included). What was the record for the teams JB and DW played on? Just curious since it has been a loooooooooong while.

  7. Marion County's Top 10

    1.Mack Phillips

    2.David Pryor

    3.Warren Haynes

    4.Zephan Guyear

    5.Dustin Winfree

    6.Rudy Adams

    7.Billy Saylor

    8.Brent Layne

    9.Chad Gravitt

    10.John Watts

those are mine, now lets hear what u think

I say you take Mack, David and the rest of the '87 team and they would beat the rest of your list. I think Coach Webb at JMS would be a good judge of the truth of my statement. He graduated in '86 and has seen most of the other kids come up. I think Grant deserves ALOT of credit for the talent he has sent up to MCHS.

  8. QUOTE(voiceofrockets @ May 27 2007 - 08:16 AM) 826467943And you really think Forrest brought their "A" game that day?

I guess then you assume Whitwell brought theirs??? They played probably their worst game in about three weeks that day. I give credit to Forrest since they did what they had to but I think experience was the key factor since Forrest had been there before and Whitwell had not. Hope they get to meet next year!!!

  9. Whitwell returns the entire team with the exception of one but all starters return. Expecting a return to the state and a better run thru the tourney with a more experienced team. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

  10. QUOTE(MidTnAg @ May 23 2007 - 09:56 PM) 826465719I don't think so. Look again. You assume incorrectly. I knew nothing about the progress of the game nor the outcome of the game until I saw the score on this Web site.

My assumption that Forrest would win was based on knowing that Forrest has the better team. Forrest would win 8 out of 10 games against Whitwell.

I stated on this Web site prior to today that Forrest was definitely the better team. The outcome was no surprise to me. The closeness was a surprise.

Nothing against Whitwell. They are definitely a very good team. It is just that Forrest is the better team.

You stated prior to today that Forrest would win their first two games EASILY (maybe the first but certainly not today). You also stated that TCA was the best (can't disagree there) then there was FCS,Forrest and E. Rob with Whitwell, Adamsville and USJ WAY WAY behind (WRONG again). Maybe you need to try and come to a game before you try to belittle Whitwell. I am finished with this thread....bottom line is that Forrest was the better team today and deserved their win. Congrats to them and good luck the rest of the way. I certainly don't want it to look like I am trying to take away from their victory. I just don't try to pass some sort of judgment on a program until I have seen them play in person a few times but not everyone is like that.

  11. QUOTE(MidTnAg @ May 23 2007 - 07:05 PM) 826465566Forrest 4 Whitwell 3

Much closer than I thought. Whitwell played better than expected or Forrest played worse than expected.

Great game by two teams that are evenly matched. Both groups of fans were loud and rowdy. I wish Forrest the best of luck and hope the Lady Tigers get another shot against them. MTAg... nice prediction on the game since it came about right after it ended. LOL... Nostradamus you aren't. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

  12. It was probably one of our poorest efforts overall since starting this streak but you have to win games when you don't play your best and we did. I think our game against Forrest tomorrow p.m. will be a very good one. Two very good teams that are well coached. GO GET EM LADY TIGERS!!!!!! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

  13. QUOTE(MidTnAg @ May 21 2007 - 07:53 PM) 826464243Easily the best three teams at State are (in order)

    Trinity Christian

    East Robertson

    Forrest

    Next are:

    Friendship Christian & Midway

    Then way, way behind are:

    University School

    Whitwell

    Adamsville

Have you seen all of the teams play??? Just curious. I will say this that if Whitwell is fortunate enough to play against Forrest in the next round they sure as heck won't get beat easily!!!!

  14. GO LADY TIGERS!!!!!! GREAT JOB TO THE LADIES AND OF COURSE COACH GRACE!!!!!

I don't think that it can be overstated how good of a job Coach Grace has done bringing these girls along this year. You won't find a better group of girls or coach and they deserve everything they have accomplished. Now, ON TO THE BORO!!!!!! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

  15. QUOTE(WTLgov7286 @ Mar 27 2007 - 02:02 PM) 826424123Any details on this game?

Whitwell was up 9-2 going into the bottom of the 7th and got a little lax. Whitwell hit the ball well up and down the lineup with every starter getting a hit with the exception of one I believe. B. Defur pitched a great game and got the win. Whitwell went on to win today against Lookout Valley in 5 with the score being 12-2.

  16. QUOTE(SPORTSFAN69 @ Mar 14 2007 - 10:15 AM) 826411341Oh yea and if you do not believe in our game then dont come back! ! wait no you have to be there you have the most confidence in me i forgot! !!!! c ya

I seriously doubt that you are who you say you are. In fact, I would bet my life on it.

  17. QUOTE(KevTN @ Feb 10 2007 - 09:32 AM) 826366077

Congrats Lady's. For the first time in the seniors careers they beat So. Pittsburg x2, Whitwell x2 and Richard Hardy in one season!! Plus this is the first time these girls have had a double digit winning season!!

Alison Rich was the Chattanooga Times/NewsFree player of the week!!!

Good luck against Howard and the tourney!!

OH come on, Marion's enrollment is barely above So. Pitt and Whitwell COMBINED!!! If you are trying to brag about that then you don't have much to brag about. I could see if the schools were even in enrollment but that is not the case. Get back with us when you have something to really be proud of. I will say that the story of the Marion Ladies letting the girl from Grundy score is probably one of the best of the year but let's not brag about being "county" champs.

  18. QUOTE(Indian @ Jan 28 2007 - 10:12 PM) 826349834

Not trying to make excuses for anybody. If they wanted to run it up on teams this year they would have put 100 on East Ridge and Hixson when they had the chance. The truth is they were not sharp after not pressuring Hixson, like I said to the other poster, if you can't understand that nothing more will make you believe it.

The thing that some overlook about SCHS and them continuing to press is the fact that District, Region, Sub State and State touneys are coming up and they WILL have to keep the pressure on the entire game. If there is foul trouble the subs WILL have to keep the pressure on. Just because teams in the area aren't as good as SCHS isn't really a reason to not press. SCHS, just like most teams in the valley, has a window of opportunity to achieve GREAT success. It is just hard to maintain a long, long, long run of greatness with teams from smaller counties. Does anyone remember when the MCHS Warriors were DOMINANT in football not just in the valley, area but the state??? What happened?? They lost Colquette yes, but the main reason is that they just ran out of talent to compete at a high level. It is both what you hate but also what makes winning a State Title so sweet for teams in the rural areas. JMHO!!!

  19. QUOTE(Fowl Raoul @ Jan 19 2007 - 10:57 PM) 826338570

Those refs were terrible tonight. I have never seen anything like it. At the end of the game, SP was up and end bounded the ball and Jasper was trying to intentionally foul them. They would not even call and intentional foul. This was the most ridiculous thing Fowl Raoul has ever seen. These refs need to be reported to TSSAA.

What were the final scores of both the girls' and boys' games? Thanks.

Last night in our game we were bringing the ball up the court and made it to the other half to begin our play and the other coach was calling for a time out and they stopped play as if they were going to give it to her. Then they said no you can't get one but allowed her to make subs! It was crazy! Other than that crazy incident they did a decent job. I think it was more of a shock to them that the coach was calling for a time out when we had the ball. Maybe she was calling for it before and was complaining that she didn't get one when the ball was out of bounds, I don't know, I was really into watching what we were doing out there. Trying to get this young team ready and we aren't there yet!

The Marion vs Whitwell game was terrible. I have never seen three officials with less of a clue. What was a walk on one play was not on the next. There was a play near the end of the game where there was a jump ball and the officials didn't agree on whose ball it was. They eventually went by majority vote, I think. I have seen several games where there seemed to be a weak link in the crew (like he was being trained). The main problem I have seen is that you don't have consistency on calls. One ref will call a tight game the other will let things go, what is tied up (jump ball) on one play is a foul on the very next one. I really think the TSSAA is having trouble getting/keeping experienced officials and that isn't hard to believe since it has to be one of the more unfulfilling jobs around.

  21. Congratulations Whitwell....

Sounds like Coach Ellis has things going in a positive direction on the North side of the county.....

If the girls start pulling together then I think they will be able to finish strong this year. From what I have heard there have been issues that often occur when you have few upperclassmen and many underclassmen i.e. playing time. You can never underestimate the power of TEAM. They have talent and if the parents will be patient then I think everything will work out fine for the next 3 years at least.
