  1. jrice just a coulpe of facts for ya since you concerned with Coach Barger's first tenure at LC. 1st The year before his arrival the falcons were 0-10, finished the year with 18 football players and even had rumblings in the community of dropping football if they could not be more competitive. During his 4 years they were 3-7, 8-3, 8-3, 9-4. In his last year they were in the quarterfinals and basically a 4th and 12 completion against JCS from being in the state championship game. Oh yeah, they happened to beat fayette Acad., who was odds on favorite to represent west tn. in championship, and TCA in the 1st two rounds of the playoffs. Those qualify as teams with winning records for ya? 2nd during his tenure LC got a new fieldhouse, began a little league program and started an offseason conditioning and lifting program. He was a key part of bringing LC bac to relevance in football. Neither coach that has been there since faced what Coach B faced when he took over. No offense to those guys but a credit to the community, administration and coaching staff of LC when Coach B was there before.

Come on Coach B we knew things were down when you were there the 1st time but you did get the best JR high team LC has seen in 20 years. There are no Springer, Valentine, Mills, Copeland, JOnes or Yancy coming for several years. ANd just like last time you are probably going to lose a Flowers to DC. all that is irrelevant you work hard, you cannot help the region you play in that is why the wins against teams above 500 are not there. Support for football has always been at LC you just know how to make things happen.

  2. Having looked thru the TSSAA baseball bylaws and guidelines there is no reference to the requirement of batter boxes. Most umps will never require them if not there. I would bet most umps could not tell you the dimension of a batters box.

It would fall under NFHS rules which requires it.

  3. Compete against Memphis? Please explain.

I think he meant he has to do it to compete with Memphis teams. He's accusing DC coach of recruiting. Same o Same o. Just someone that likes to stir up trouble that's all.

Last time I checked. PO's recruiting was simply other coaches not working. If I am correct the Harris boy was never given any attention from Blackwood (like not being able to use facilities), Lumley told the Newell kid he does not play freshman no matter how good they are. and Lake Co baseball does not play together in the summer so that shows lack of interest from the coaches (I know they say the kids wont show up but you play with who does and let the others just play football 1 year of letting them sit the bench will get your point across) So you can call it recruiting.

  4. Thanks for clearing that part up...

So they play separate tournaments...One for the North and one for the South...How many teams from each sub tournament advances to see who moves on to the regionals??... Do all the teams in the North Division play in the postseason tournament since there are 5 teams in the North but only four teams in the South ??

I'm with you though..In Central's case they play 40 games if they get them all in...They play everybody in the district in home and home series except Crockett County, who they don't play at all...Looks to me like they could drop a couple of those 1A schools and play Crockett and count all the games...Do all the teams in the district play the same type of district schedule??..Play everybody except one team??...

No not all teams have that type of schedule. Format for tourney will be 4 in the south plays 5 in the north for a play in game. Then you will format with a 8 team tourney playing at the higher seed until you reach the final 4 then they play this year in Millington at USA field and next year at Union City.

  5. Purple, I see where you said Central lost to Ripley, so does that record count against the district record? I wouldn't think it would since they are in opposite divisions of the district. Not all teams will play the each other from opposite ends so I was just wondering how that works.

They play Ripley again...Covington twice and Haywood three times (once in a tournament that wouldn't count) but they don't play Crockett County at all...I would think those games would count in some way but then again this is the first year I have even really kept up with high school baseball...

games against Haywood, Ripley, and Covington do not count for district record because they are not in their division. Only games against Dyersburg, Westview, Milan, Gibson count. Not playing everyone really does not seem fair to the 4th and 5th place teams in the respective sides since 4 or 5 in one side could be better than a 3 in the other side.

  6. An up and down weekend . But Dyer Co. calmly beat the #2 ranked AAA team in the State,Collierville ,on Saturday . March 20

The score was 7-1. they gave up 5 hits and one unearned run. Now that is something to build on. It was

    a team effort!!

Really doubt they are ranked higher than Bartlett or Farragut but it is still a quality win!

  7. The jackson foul at the end of the game given to #11 should have been corrected by the official book keeper who would be from DC. It was clear that the officials messed up but it should have been corrected. However, It was other players that stepped up. Good season DC.

  8. Yea we want that dyer county coach before Mccord.lol That was the biggest empty gym that i've ever seen.

007 why don't you send him an e-mail? I'm sure he will leave David Lispcomb (NCAA D1 school) and come to LC.

I love how people bash him. "He wasn't a good coach they didn't win." Look at the rosters from his 2 seasons there and the ones after. Tell me what Coach in TN wouldn't win with what DC had in 05-06.

Don't take this as a bashing of McCord he is winning games and is probably filling sets. (I can't say as I haven't been this season)

He also changed the schedule (no 13AA). Angie would have won more games this year in 13AAA. However this thread is about LC. LC does not have the horses it has had in the past years. SO Whitby as he always does has a purpose. Like it or not he will tell you all about it just ASK!

  9. By the way, does anyone know why the Dyersburg-Ripley game won't count in the region standings?

Its part of the reason I think this new system is crazy. Its got something to do with Dyersburg and Ripley being in the same district but not the same region.

With the 9 team region the TSSAA gave the coaches and Admin the choice to play 8 region games which means only 2 nonregion games or to break into 3 pods. The coaches including Coach Counce picked to play in pods (Dyersburg, Crockett, Obion; Gibson, Milan, Westview; Ripley, Covington, Milan). U play two teams from every pod with the choice of playing other teams nonregion. Dyersburg did not draw Gibson and Ripley. With Wheeler leaving Ripley he chose to play Dyersburg instead of DC. I am sure that Counce was very happy to play Ripley.

  10. Don"t kid yourself here. Games will continue to start at 7:00 pm. Remember starting times were changed for the benefit of the "travel" team. This won't change. The problem will still exist. Kickoff at 7:00, temperature 93-95, heat index around 100, and kids haven't been allowed to work out in these conditions...TROUBLE BREWING!!!

Kentucky does not allow games to start with high heat I am sure that TN will follow. Some schools already start late when games are to be started at high temps. But if they do allow games to start in the heat they should allow practice in the heat!

  11. With the new regulations handed down by the TSSAA regarding heat index and practice...How are you coaches handling this situation? Violate the policy and something happens, a parent owns you and you never work again (once you get out of jail). Combine that with a civil suit and you live in a tent forever. NOW..My question to the TSSAA is what happens when the teams hit the field week o, and the temperature is hovering around 96, heat index is well over 100 and these kids are not acclimated to this. Don't buy the decision here. Your thoughts?

I would say that they will not be playing either so it will be games that start at 8 or later

  12. I agree with you..I was told if it looked like it would interfere with his boys team, that he would step down..So..I look for him to maybe coach this year wheras he should do pretty well..then after a bad season next year..maybe decide it is interfering but in reality..just not the same ..You're right..The boys team have the athletes..and more coming up..The girls team have the girls this coming year..and that's it..I heard from someone from Dyer Co this morning say that Coach McCord was going to play defense and be in the other team's face..He may can do it against some teams this coming year but after that ..unless there are some girls walking the hallway or some of the boys from the other counties that may have sisters..won't be able to do it because he won't have the talent..You just can't turn a mule into a stallion..Someone like Heathe rButler..T.T. Flowers will blow right by them..have Dyer Co holding them by the jerseys..I saw both the Three Oaks and Northview girls teams the past two years and neither team could get the ball down the floor against Lake Co..Lake Co won by 30 to 40 points and if they had played the starters ..could have won by 60 points..My niece started for the Northview team two years ago..The best player on either Three Oaks or Northview couldn't have made the starting team for Lake Co..I'd be willing to bet that Lake Co's first 7 players were better than any player on either odf those teamss..Hate to say that with my niece on those teams..but that's reality..They could get better but I just don't see the Dyer Co girls being competitive after next year for the next four or five years..Dyersburg had a much better middle school girls team the past two seasons than Dyer Coand I believe Lake Co beat them by close to 20 points the past two years in the regular season, although Dyersburg ddi play them closer and tougher in the tournament this past year..I also heard Dyer Co may be interested in seeing if Peggy McCain may be interested in returning to Dyer Co as an assistant coach..She's at Lake Co middle school now..That could be just a rumour though as I heard Beth Ann Pope was staying..

He was trying to pick Peggy up last weekend at the AAU tourney in Lake Co. But she said she would not come b/c she has got used to winning. She would be a great hire relates to kids well and is a great coach

  13. I wonder if he will go after the tougher teams in the state with his girl's team- -the way he did with the boys after he turned the boys program around (as was told by the State Gazette) or will he stay in AAA district and only play those teams?? Talk is that he would stay away from AA district teams. They say he is to smart for that. No more Gibson Co. Obion or Martin for DC girls. It is hard to believe since they have played them for so many years. Just wondering?? What you think?

He had already said before he took over that he still wants to play the 13AA TEAMS b/c he thinks they will be AA in 4 years

  14. I am beginning to think some of you are getting the picture. Some of adminstration did not care what the coaches wanted until McCord came and started winning then administration, fans, etc. started paying more attention and backing him. It looks like he got the attention of the right people. So if I understand this right each coach that took over the girls asked for the same thing including Angie Stafford but all got the same answer until McCord managed to get the attention of the right person or persons. All I hear is that some of the previous coaches couldn't get it done but I think some did pretty well with what they were given. I also know from a fairly reliable source that Angie Stafford started several programs to build the program since she could not get into the middle schools so I think it is hard to judge all these coaches if they were not given the proper help and resources when they were coaching. Whether you liked the coach or not it still is not fair to judge them without all the facts. And without a doubt--talent of the girls does have alittle to do with it and how fast they can learn since they did not get all they needed in middle schools. It is like sending a kid to college and he only has had basic math. And of course, every coach you mentioned wants the job now that they are getting the middle schools and now that they have moved into a weaker district and are almost a Sure win( from everyone I talk to. ) Now that all the AAU, Junior basketball program and now middle school is all set up and ready for whoever to walk in and pick up the wins. And next year, whoever takes it will get all the praise of how they turned the program around. Well, I have nothing against McCord cause I really don't know him and I think he is a good coach from what I have seen but you can believe it or not he did not turn the program around all by himself and I believe adminstration worked with him. No man stands alone. I think the fans surely are smart enough to know one person can't do it all by themself no matter how good he may seem to be. My personal opinion is Angie Stafford fought a battle that she finally decided she could not win and with someone new coming in she knew they could get more done to help the program and that is why she resigned. I feel she added to the foundation of the program just as past coaches have. So we can beat all these coaches up but the bottom line is they all have one thing in common and that was to get the program at DC going and I think adminstration is starting to really listen. I am not beating adminstration, coaches or anyone up but I think finally people are starting to understand that you have to have a strong program. You have to start training these kids from early age if you want a winning team unless they are just athlete and have it in them.(which are very few) and that in my opinion is why DC has been good but could not reach great. We have had some athletes with built-in talent come through but we need a full team to make a difference. So, once again, that is my opinion to add to the collection.

I would have to say the junior class is pretty talented especially without a post. At Northview they beat everything in Gibson County, beat all in obion by Hillcrest who had 2 good post players and won the middle school state championship. So to say they always have not got what was needed in middle school is not true.

  15. You're saying exactly the same thing I heard..That the teams weren't up to par..The newspaper had it like Angie had a choice to coach..I don't believe that..My sons grandmother is a teacher..Too bad those women didn't have tenure to at least teach..Have to go somewhere else just to teach now and start all over!I'm with you..practice will make you a little better..but the players those women had didn't have hardly any talent..Pat Summit couldn't have won with those players...And I say that with my niece being on the Northview team with the Gibbons girl their 8th grade year..

Who will be the new coach? Better yet like you are saying who would want the job! What about former coaches who are DC alumni like Poindexter and Larue?
