  1. Millington is way down. But, have won the games they had to win. Ral Egypt and Trezevant now have the athlete base that used  to feed into Millington.  Proud of the way this Millington team has kept fighting. RB#7  has had  a really nice SR year in his first year on the Gridiron. Over 800 yards. QB Tommy Clifton is tough as nails and Trojans have 2 WR's with speed to take it the distance.  With that said, Ripley can win this one in the #1 vs #4 matchup if Millington doesn't play well. #GoTrojans!

  3. Fulton ( Hope Coach White and Trezevant Bears pull it off but can't pick against the machine that is Fulton).

KWC-   If I win,  Are you going to show me the money? J/K. Thanks for everything you did all year. I know that it takes time to do what you do every week. It's been fun and I wanted to make sure you know I sincerely appreciate it.

  4. Why has Oak Ridge not been a factor for so long. In the 80's and 90's they were one of the top teams in the state most years. But, correct me if I am wrong they haven't been the same for 15 or so years. Why? Have additional schools opened up in their area that have impacted their talent level? That's what happened with Germantown High School here in Suburban Memphis. They too were widely considered one of the top teams in the state on a yearly basis dating back all the way to the early 1980's. But two additional Schools have opened in their general area thus splitting their talent base 3 ways (Houston High School, Southwind High School). Another factor is that the private schools in Memphis have got a ton more serious about athletics and have recruited area middle schools much more than they did in the past. One of the not so good side effects of  the "Blind Side" Movie. All Private schools here are looking for the next "Michael Oher" type athlete in the public school sector. It's enough to make you vomit, going to 5th grade football games and seeing staff members from all of the area private schools salavating over these kids and promising their parents or guardians the world.

Great Pic! Don't get me started about officials. The team that I am involved with had the worlds worst experience with one this year. He plagued us in two different games. In the 2nd one he ejected our Head Coach. He was later re-instated prior to the next weeks game.

  6. We have a game this week that has our full attention.

As does Whitehaven. I am not part of either team. So, I can look as far ahead as I want. Don't make this out to be more than it is. But, you can count on this much... If and when Whitehaven makes it to the State Championship game the following week Maryville will have to play a full four quarters to get the win. Whitehaven has always had the confidence but now with the experience of playing for multiple gold balls in the last 5 years, the stage will not be too big for them.

  7. No. That would be Gary Darden that beat us.

Not sure who Gary Darden is. But, I remember the last time that Maryville and Whitehaven played. Current Ole Miss Rebel RB Mark Dodson led the Tigers over the Rebels and won their first Gold Ball. They have their sights set on State Title 2 this year. I have nothing but respect for George Quarles, his staff, and his program at Maryville. He is a true living legend in Tennessee High School Football.

  8. From the FINAL score it looks like I was wrong about Arlington. I thought they were a very average team this year. My Millington Trojans would have spanked them if at 100%. I realize that Whitehaven didn't play well, but for Arlington to hang in there like they did that said a lot about the progress of their program and a glimpse at it's future. Good things are in store for Arlington. For a freshman qb to get the experience of starting a state quarterfinal game, It can do nothing but mature him beyond his years and act as a spring board for him and his team for the off-season program. I expect big things from Arlington in the next 3 years. They will make a serious run at the Gold Ball in the next 3 years. Whitehaven will snap and  clear and be ready for the Semis this weekend. I am eager to see them play well get the W and play Maryville for a state championship.

To borrow a phrase from KWC and the Senator....  RESPECT THE HAVEN!!!!!

  9. Even the Whitehaven contingent will agree that this years edition of the Whitehaven Tigers hasn't won pretty. But, they have always found a way to win in spite of not playing their best football. The scary part is that their best football has yet to be played. If they put it all together on Friday night then they will be playing for another Gold Ball for sure. If they don't put it all together, they still could and should win. Where as I believe that Ravenwood will have to play a perfect game and Whitehaven not play well for Ravenwood to leave Memphis with a W. I have seen other editions of the Tigers dominate regular season games and then lose in the first round of the playoffs. This team has a special leader (QB) and it's going to take a very special team to beat them.

  10. I promise we want what's waiting on us down the road.

Sorry about the other issues.  I don't believe I've heard such in 20 years following this team.  I have to believe they were not our people.

No need for the apology. Every fan base has "fans" that aren't claimed. They tend to only show up when the team is really good. If you have been following the HC for 20 years you have seen some lean years too. I have certainly seen my fair share of lean years here at Millington. 0-10 in 1991 comes to mind right away. But those lean years make the good years all the more sweeter. Undefeated regular seasons in 1993 and 2007 and the great run this year with the mash unit of a team that ended the year. Good luck to you and Henry County and  I hope that we see you guys again sometime in the future-

  11. The positive side to this is that over the last 10 years, our record against Memphis area teams is 20-5 with several big wins in Memphis, and one lackluster loss in 2012 to Hamilton. So it wouldn't surprise me to come out of Memphis with a W, but then again Ridgeway is good and its going to take it all from the Patriots to pull it off. But after watching some more recent film, I'm feeling a little more confident...

You should be confident. If you are still playing this time of year and you are not confident then there is problems. I do think that Ridgeway will have to play poorly for you guys to win though. If they turn the ball over and Henry County does not then I think HC gets the win. Otherwise, I think Ridgeway keeps on moving. Though, I am not sure they want what's waiting on them down the road.

  12. I usually agree with you man.  I believe we can win, don't get me wrong.  But the general consensus around the state is what it is.  Their offense has kicked it into another gear as the season has gone on, but so has our defense.  Can't wait until Friday night.

Playing in Memphis in a playoff game isn't an easy task. Though much different than the atmosphere in Henry County, It is still challenging all the same. I will be surprised if Henry County leaves Memphis with a victory. Ridgeway will have to play hard for 4 quarters to get the win though because Henry County will bring the intensity to the very end.

  13. Tough game and both teams were a little chippy. Millington was talented and I hated to see #44 leave with an injury.

#44 was the heart of our defense. Without him on the field, we were in big trouble. He is a sure fired D-1 prospect.  Not sure where, but he will be playing on Saturdays next year. Henry County is a good football team and they deserved to win. Not sure that they have the over all athleticism to advance past Ridgeway but stranger things have happened. Safe travels to the Memphis area next week. Since Ridgeway doesn't have a "home" field, You will be playing at one of the city owned fields.

  14. I want to just wanted to thank AD Mike Poteete, Jon Davidson and Andy Collins for all of their help in securing a place in the press box for me to do my radio show and stats. It was a great atmosphere, great hospitality and a hard hitting football game. I can't address the things on the field until I see the film. What I can address is the lack of class of grown men who don't understand that this a high school football game with 14-18 yr old boys. I have had several reports of men who were over by the Millington sideline that were talking trash to the Trojan football players. Really? 30,40,50 yr old men talking trash to a teenager? Buy a ticket, sit in the stands and cheer YOUR team on. Nothing more, nothing less.

Couldn't have put it any better myself. We have seen a lot of football over the years and often times in very hostile enviroments. But, to be so back woods that you could rationalize verbally attacking 14-18 kids? That takes the cake. They are very lucky that this wasn't the team from back in the mid 2000's because it would have got really ugly in the stands. Our "Fans" during that time period would have took care of such nonsense rather quickly.

  15. Henry Co 42-0   HC offense and defense are perfect mismatches for millingtons style of play in all phases

i had millington in the upset last week, but its not to be this week...i fully expect henry co to do to the trojans what liberty did a few weeks ago...

best of luck big red and well talk tomorrow about ridgeway

olddevil   Chris Glover has my number...i need to speak to you about some of ur all stars coming to jackson on december 12...give me a call please when you can

dhstennis- Your analysis is flawed. The Millington team that faced Liberty is not the same team that will play Henry County tonight. We have  our starting qb, though not 100%, our starting middle line backer who is a d-1 prospect, and our 2nd team RB all back. They all three did not play vs Liberty. With those three, I feel as though we keep the game close and likely beat you guess. Seems crazy since the final was 63-10, but trust me it's accurate. Henry County may very well win and win by more than 10 points but it will not be a 42 point blow out. I think it feels more like a 24-13 type game unless Henry County turns it over a time or two. If they do that then MCHS will have a shot to get another close win much like last week. Go Trojans!
