  1. I'm going to have to go with Smyrna in this one for a few reasons.

    1) Their running game is just to good with the 1 2 punch of hicks and bryson.

(not saying that oaklands isn't, but I just don't know how good they are going to do against that d-line of smyrna. Smyrna's running game reminds me a little of Chris Johnson and L. White with the Titans)

    2) Experience this late in the season- "almost every player" that starts now either started in the state championship game last year or got to play and I truly think this will help Smyrna. They know what it takes to get their and they know what it feels like o hold that gold ball up

3)Leadership- With all the drama that is going on with the whole woods story they have not let that get to them. Honestly I think this has made them gel together more as a team. I know it sounds crazy but its true.

These are just a few reasons I think Smyrna will pull this one out. Oakland is a great team and gongrats on making it this far, but I have to go with experience in the big game situation

    Smyrna 27

    Oakland 9

  3. Baseball America has both Letnz and Gray in the top 60 picks for the June draft.

Inside MLB info: Joseph will sign pro if given the opportunity due to issues other than baseball

Gray's stock is droping due to injury & size and most feel that is why he released the statement that he did. He is 5'10" and not 6'0" and the MLB teams want their pitchers taken early in the draft to be taller than Sonny.

Lentz has more upside than Gray and most scouts & the mlb scouting service feel that he will go higher in the draft than Sonny.

In this case size has nothing to do with it at all... Sonny if decided to go pro would have been atleast a top 25 pick if not higher. I agree that pros want taller pitchers but the way they were all over him he could have been 4 ft 8 and still been fine. He has just decided that he would rather go to college and get his degree which there isn't anything wrong with that.

  4. Mount Juliet and Beech are both still in. Beech beat Mount Juliet for the Region Championship last night 5-2. Wes Robinson pitched a great game only giving up one hit. Beech hosts Ravenwood Friday and Mount Juliet travels to Franklin.

and that is the sub-state right?

  5. What happened last night was just crazy. I know it takes 9 players and not one but boy thats a tough task for us now. We won't give up because thats not like us and are coach isn't going to let that happen. But it stinks to see his high school playing days end like this. It has been fun though and we will all be watching him someday in the MLB. Good Luck with the recovery Sonny

  6. paper said that lavergne swept hendersonville and henry hit a HR sounded like lavergne started hitting the ball

Not to take anything away from Lavergne because its pretty tough to sweep a team in our district but I think H'Ville had played 2 games against Beech earlier in the week and threw there number 1 and 2 then. Now Lavergne still might of beat them but I don't think by that much if they would have had there 1 and 2 starter.

  7. Even if the coaches stayed, Smyrna was going to have a down year. Too many good players to replace in key spots. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />

See thats what everyone thinks. Smyrna will have a down year. Well im telling you I would not take them lightly at all. They have two freshman phenoms that will be a year older. They have 2 lineman that will play D-1 (Tyler Eady & Dokota Woods) and Dokota is a BEAST. strongest guy I have seen in a while. Jenkins which started last year as a sophomore will be a junior and he is very good and very quick. Nick Richardson and Anthony Smith both who saw a lot of time on the line. So don't underestimate them

  8. Well not saying anything doesn't mean I'm not positive...I just was really nervous that night and I wanted that game to be a win instead of our 3rd loss in a row to open the season. And as far as only being happy after we win I don't recall being upset or giving up after Mt. Juliet or Goodpasture. I knew that we'd be back against MJ and we won and after losing to Goodpasture I was fine. At least you showed me you cared and competed; what I don't like is people not caring and I want to be there but if you guys don't care then there's no reason for me to be there because it would waste my time. I gave you all that speech after losing to Riverdale saying that I still believed; yes I was down then but I still believed and I still do believe. I don't talk bad about anyone hardly ever; that one night is about the only time I ever said anything to really challenge a team to prove me wrong.

More or less I think you're still upset about it and don't quite understand what my intentions were and still think I'm a jerk for calling a team out. That's what good teammates do. The ones who don't say or do anything when you're doing something wrong have given up. What if I don't call you guys out? What if I keep my mouth shut and pretend everything is ok when our hopes of winning district were in jeopardy? Maybe you guys don't win and hold on to first place. You had to have been thinking at least once about what I said during that game and wanted to get up there and help the team win to prove me wrong. Maybe not consciously but it had to have been in the back of your mind. I said all that stuff to get you guys to wake up and get back to what we were doing before losing to Gallatin because, like Riverdaleman said, it should have never happened. The critics are the ones who care even if they say cruel things sometimes. I do care and Coach Midd has my back on this subject. I really think we need to put this in the past and focus in on what's more important and that is playing ball instead of bantering. If you guys really do hate me and don't want me around then I'm coming to take all my stuff back that I gave you guys. I can live with it; I have enough enemies as it is I can handle the truth. I will say this: I don't think you should hate someone and disown them just because they said one bad thing one night and acts fine the rest of the time and and tries his best to be there. School is time consuming in college and I'm trying my best I really am.

Riverdaleman I graduated last year and came back to try and see what would happen so I don't see them often.

In conclusion, one thing I can say I'm wrong about is that I should have said what I said in private (the clubhouse) instead of on the internet for everyone to see. Now that I've said that this will be the last time I talk about it so you can reply but I won't. I stand by what I did; it is what it is and we have to live with it. I do care and I am positive.

Well since you like using Sonny as an example, do you think he would ever sit her and call someone out??? I mean heck we beat gallatin and we made like 5 errors but even if we lost do you think he would have called anyone out?? No. He would have been the one taking the blame. No one on this team is down on anyone, we are all brothers and we will always stand up for each other no matter what. Thats all I have to say Im done with this topic

  9. OH! You mean the coach who could not come up with a defense to stop R'dales running game even knowing ALL of R'dales plays. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

I have known Bud Raikes since 1968 and I can tell you now that NOTHING on here will influence his decision one way or the other. Man knows what he wants and will go for it be they already there or from the outside.

Personally I would like to see Coach Wyatt get it and NOT because he is from R'dale, but because he deserves a chance at being a HC after the shafting Coach R gave him.

I mean name a coach that really could stop the running attack other than WC?? I mean the man has been at Smyrna for 2 years and has 2 state championships. I know he highly respected and is a very good coach. He knows how to handle this team and this is what they need now not just some random guy they have to all the sudden call there coach. I think by already having such a tight bond with Keasler this makes him all the better coach for the job. I know playing for him the past 2 years he brought the best out in me.

Next would have to be Wyant. I mean where ever this guy goes he seems to make it to December. What more could you want.

  10. I don't think I've ever talked bad about the team before a few days ago...I don't ever recall saying this team stinks or I'm leaving the team or anything like that either. I don't bash teammates ever (I didn't call out anyone specifically on being immature) I'm usually a pretty positive guy; I just needed to say it as a wake up call. Because that game was a huge wake up call and I wanted to make sure you guys would care because it seemed like no one cared at all at Gallatin. And if you guys don't want me back fine then I'll just sit in the stands and be a part of the Dog Pound because there's not a whole lot you can do about that and if we go all the way I'm sure those guys will want the ring too and so will I. I'm sure though that this will all pass you guys have got to just trust me things are going to be fine. And yes I don't know when to keep my mouth shut but I stand by what I said and more than likely I'll never say it again because it seems like you guys got it together.

My question is why would you talk bad about us anyway? And if I recall right you say your always postive??? Well I remember against Germantown I didn't hear you say a word the whole game until we pulled it out with the squeeze. Not one word. You gave up on us to be honest and thats not what we need. Sure thats fine sit in the dog pound with them have all the fun you want, but I would say that there are a few people on the team that want to make sure you stay out there because there isn't a spot for people who just want to be happy when we win.

  11. Thank you Riverdaleman...I'm glad someone has my back on this. I meant no harm or disrespect...if you can't handle a little criticism then you need a reality check. I called you guys out to make you play better, not to get upset and cry like a little baby about a game. I don't know who that is who posted it but trust me I meant well I really did. And look you guys came out and hit 4 homeruns because I got you guys motivated. My work is done. Period. So you guys should be thanking me for making you upset; you guys need to have that intensity and if you guys can't show me you're really trying then there's no point in even showing up because it would just waste my time. I still believe we're going to go far but I needed to say that because that loss to Gallatin should never have happened and now that I said it I believe that losses like that can't happen to us now. It's nothing personal it just had to be said. You know I have a way of motivating players that is unconventional so just go with it.

I'm sticking with the team whether you like it or not because one way or another you'll be thanking me in May for this anyway. I can't come to every game because I have school and I want to be there trust me but it's impossible school comes first I'm trying as hard as I can try to make the games.

Umm...I think he's managed at least double digits per start. He got like 10 K's against Germantown, 16 against Beech, 11 against Mt. Juliet, 17 against LaVergne, and now 14 against Gallatin. And he got 6 against Dickson County in relief. And like 2 in relief against Beech so...that's about 70. And he's got at least 3 more to go. Not including playoffs where if Smyrna makes it out of district he'll probably be pitching at least another 2 starts and if they go to the sectional game and win he'll have 2 more after that. He could have close to 150 K's at the end.

Riverdaleman I do agree with you the truth does sometime hurt, but the truth is its a privledge for him to be in the dugout with us. We took him in last year when we didn't have to so he isn't doing any of us a favor at all we really are doing him one. We saw that he really wanted to be apart of a team and we were cool with that. Let me start off by sayin I hit two of the 4 homeruns in the second game and I don't remember once when I was up there thinking man that speech pumped me up or man I got to hit one out because I don't want to dissapoint him I went up to the plate just trying to be a team player and move the runners. Sometimes good things happen and sometimes they don't. In the first game I had a chance to put us up 1-0 but I didn't and my teammates didn't do anything but encourage me and kept me up the whole time. So him getting on here saying well there selfish and they don't care is a bunch of bs. We are like brothers out there and we do everything we can to win, and sometimes even though its not the best outcome we never bash any of our teammates its just something you don't do.

And Laz I know your trying to motivate and stuff but you got to realize sometimes when to keep your mouth shut. Sometimes its best not to say anything at all.

  12. Beech did not sweep Mt. Juliet. They still have 1 game left to play.

Don't pay any attention to him. You see he has no clue what he is talking about. 1st off how can you get on here and bash a team that you are (kind of) apart of. I play for smyrna and I know what he said in the earlier post made alot of us mad. No matter what, you stick with your teammates and you never bad mouth them no matter what happeneds. Yea we didn't beat Gallatin the first night but thats how it goes. They had 1 hit out of the infield and we had no errors. They just came through when they had to. We still are 1st in the district and more important than that we are still a team, and a lot of players are real shaky about letting you back with this team.

  13. Adam Boyd starterd the game off and in the 4th they went to Andy Phillips.

Smyrna came out really hot in the 1st inning starting off with a lead off hit by Raff Hatfield and ended up scoring 2 off of a 2 run single by Kelly Thomason. Then Mt. Juliet came out and hit a HR and scored 5 in the 1st. Smyrna answered with 3 in the next inning but that was it until the 7th. Mt. Juliet is a very good hitting and defensive team.

  14. Smyrna over Beech 2-0. Sonny 14k's

Standings in district as of right now.

    1. Mt. Juliet 2-0 (Swept LaVergne)

    1. Smyrna 2-0 (Swept Beech)

    3. WC 0-0 (No district games)

    4. Gallatin 1-1 (Split w/ H' Ville)

    4. H' Ville 1-1 (Split w/ Gallatin)

    6. Beech 0-2 (Swept by Smyrna)

    6. LaVergne 0-2 (Swept by Mt. Juliet)
