  1. No disrespect intended I just want Coach Anderson to know that I am proud of him and I did not mean anything towards Coach Hollingshead good luck patriots. When and were are Region duals?

None taken. These two have brought this program to a competitive level and have a vested interest. My understanding is they could fill every weight class two, and in some cases threefold if need be. That speaks volumes for their dedication and work ethic.

  2. Justin Anderson has done a great job with the wrestling program at Jeff Co. Hats off to the team Coach Hollingshead (IF WRONG NAME SORRY) find something to do besides wrestling nothing personal. Anderson works his butt off and gets no credit. Anderson is not going to say anything because he is that type of guy. He does it for the kids nothing else. What happened to Watkins was has he quit helping I saw him sitting in the stands, why was he not coaching? Good luck Patriots

Having been around the Partriot program for quite sometime I must say that I have heard nothing but the opposite since this fine duo has assumed the helm of this program. From parents, fans, students, athletes, other coaches and refs. I have not heard one harsh word spoken about either. Each have their own areas of expertise and seem to gel quite nicely. The credit, if any given, should go to all the coaches, parents, but ultimatley the student athletes. Without their commitment there would be no program with any measure of success. There is no question that these two coaches have the best interest of their athletes at heart. Dedicating their own personal time to transport wrestlers who do not have a ride, to open up the mat room impromptu because a few of the guys want an extra work out or need to cut weight and constantly checking on the health status of their athletes. I know the wrestlers have the utmost respect and love for these two individuals. That is what drives them to do their best. Good luck in the Region Duals!!!!

  3. Of the teams I've seen this year here would be a list of solid wrestlers (with no disrespect to anyone not listed) in no specific order. I am sure I left some off so please add. Of course, as far as "The Hill" is concerned the entire roster could probably be noted.

Dobyns Bennett –Mann Brothers (injured or not)-Gilliam-Lemaster

Jefferson County – Tyler Johnson- Jared Watkins-Carlson-Churchman

Morristown West –John Herold- Andrew Brimer-Titus Whitelar- Rippetoe

    Science Hill –Matt Cruise-S. Goldstein-Josh Lewis-Pearce-Stull

    Seymour –Shane Chipley-Luke Hall-Mike Raimondi

South Doyle- Baker- Breeden-Andrew Crockett- Steven Dierden

Sullivan East –Michael Bishop-Joey Owens- Colten Eller

    Happy Valley- Garrett Wood-Baker

Greeneville-Cody Myers (how many Myers are there anyway?)

  4. This will be my last post in regards to this matter. ET you are a fine wrestler. And for the record, I do know what I am talking about. Yes, everybody is chasing the same thing.......a region title. And generally speaking most drop or bump weight classes for an easier route. But if you can capture that title by beating the top ranked, state placers or qualifiers it is more of an accomplishment. Calm down young man and wrestle well.......good luck this weekend.

  5. Etown152.....do the math and quit tootin' ye own horn my friend. Shipley is chasing Myers and Churchman is chasing Bishop and you appear to be chasing your own ego. Erwin and Watkins will be a good match...your lol was out of line. Please remember that this is a sport of respect ........ good luck to all this week end.....

  6. The Fandetti Brawl is now the Fandetti-Richardson Brawl, in honor of Scott and his teammate Todd Richardson, who died last February. Scott Moffat, another of their teammates, lost his life last March. He will be honored as well.

The field looks nasty. I hope we finish in the top 10. I think we can count on a bloodbath.

If you go to www.sciencehillsports.com and hit the wrestling area, there is a site that tells about the entire field as well as the three honorees.

Some familiar names will be Cleveland, Ooltewah, Notre Dame, and Greenback.

Logan and Justin will be bringing Scott and Todd's old team back.

We also have Jesuit from New Orleans, Bob Jones from Alabama, John Hardin and Perry Central from Kentucky, Abingdon and Cave Spring from Virginia, Erwin and North Henderson from North Carolina.

Local teams include Elizabethton, Tennessee High, and Sullivan East and South.

That's off the top of my head. Hope I didn't forget anybody.

By the way, cool screen name. Look out for Palomides.

    Coach,

I know the Richardson and Moffat family extremely well, I wish I could say the same for the Fandetti family. The stories that you wrote were nothing short of amazing and inspiring. You are to be commended!! You are missed in Jeff. Co. but thanks to Logan and Gut we are on our way back up. Their passion is contagious.

  7. Daid Mang (Bradley) - 2nd at 130

    Cody Sliger (Ooltewah) - 3rd at 285

I know that Ben Heacock, Ryan Konz, and Josh Jadoobirsingh won some matches. What have I missed?

How did these guys from East Tn do? A J Farinella, Matt King, Justin Myers, Corey Churchman.

I feel you Jackson. I started without a ton of support at Jefferson County. When I got there in 1992 the uniforms were worse than I had in high school in the seventies.

I recruited kids, we raised our money for stuff, and everybody just left me alone and let me work.

As we had success, things got better as people realized that we were fun to watch. We did have a great sportswriter, the late Richard Hayworth, and he covered our program like it was the only one in town.

When I left I was promised that the work I'd done would be preserved and that they would bring in someone who would keep things going. Of course that was a Jeff County thing. They really didn't mean it. They were concerned with their own insular, esoteric Jefferson County stuff than they were with quality. Still, I worked hard to make Jeff County wrestling the best it could be. Early on, I also had great parental support. Later, it dwindled some, but that was a key as well.

I'm fortunate at Science Hill to have both administrative and parental support. But I basically made both my programs what I wanted them to be on my own. It was an exercise of personal will.

A coach has to take charge to realize his vision.

Amen Coach!! It's a shame that the administration to include the AD can't even make a home match. They did manage to make one home match this year along with the football coaches to watch one of their football studs wrestle. Who, by the way, got stuck in front of his own school and his administrative cheerleaders. For the record, the football stud later quit. Actually pulling out in the middle if a tournament because it was a "waste of time and had better things to do". Of course he was getting his tail kicked. Football players are tough, but for those who think wrestling isn't are just ignorant to the sport. Mentally and physically it is above all. Most wrestlers don't want the glory or recognition. It's self satisfaction that matters the most. Knowing they have reached their goals and sacrficed what they have to get there. Hours of drilling, sweating, early morning and late night runs to make sure you make weight. And most of the time that's after cutting for months. How many other athletes could go an entire day not eating just to make sure they make weight and then go compete? My hat goes off to all wrestlers and coaches. You are an elite group that deserves respect and support.

Hey done, i've only seen them once this year so ill just give you what turley has told me.

They are young again this year, with only 4-5 seniors, two of which didn't wrestle last year. They've only lost three matches, but one of them was 48-22 to greeneville this past week, meaning GHS pretty much wraps up the District 2-AAA title.

Turley has done a good job with the team and they have a lot of young talented guys. GHS is just deep and experienced. The Patriots are the clear cut #2 in the district right now.

Bradley Robbins, who finished fourth or fifth in the state last year cant remember right off hand, is once again one of the top in TN in the 171 lb. class. He defeated greeneville's Charlie Arrington at the GIT in the championship game - voted best match of the tournament.

Sophomore Corey Churchman finished fifth at the GIT in 130 lb. Demarcus Whiteside fourth 135. One weak spot for the Patriots is that they have been unable to find a 103 wrestler all year.

Jeff county is suppose to host a three-way match with Sevier and Pinson Valley Alabama tomorrow night at 6:30. They are having a fundraising chili supper beginning at 5:30, i think the cost is 5 bucks not sure.

Saturday is the Patriot Bash, which has about 10 teams coming to the high school. If im not mistaken that's their last home match of the season.

hope that helps. If you need anything more specific give me a shout.

I've heard the Robbins kid is a stud and that they have a very young team. Looks like they had a decent showing at the GIT. It would be nice to see some of the younger kids become state qualifiers.

  11. How are they clear cut #2 when They lose to M-west. That is unreal. Turley, what does he know about wrestling? When Gut coached, Gut did all the coaching, when Jason coached, Jason did all the coaching. Turley needs to step down and enjoy life. Turley is a good man just not a good coach.

HULK, take your coach bashing somewhere else. That's the problem with JCHS now. And that filters down to the athletes. You have to respect the fact that these men take the time to do what they do and teach what they know. They lost to M-West because they gave up 18 pts. off the bat with forfeits and from what I was told bumped up the whole roster.

Spring practice is usually the end of april. I can tell you what players are returning by position, and who is coming up from JV/Fresh, but with all this talk of transfers/players not coming out I'm really nor sure what to expect.

There are a couple of incoming freshman that i would at least dress out varsity as well, although i know thats a rarity in 5A. But there are some i think might be contributors like McFall was. It might take them some time to season, but rome wasnt built in a day.

DZ, off the subject but can you give an update on the wrestling team, individual and team.
