  1. Please keep WB junior Cole Lail in your prayers. Cole was admitted to Blount Memorial Hospital on Sunday and has been diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia. His condition deteriorated to the point that he has been moved to the ICU. Visited with the family this evening (Wed) ... there were a bunch of friends and family there at the hospital. The doctors have been seriously, seriously concerned but finally tonight, word came that Cole might be showing a little improvement.

Please put Cole on your prayer list and also please pray for strength and wisdom for his mom and dad and for the rest of his family.

    GovMan,

Any updates? Last night (3/2) after church, one of the students got several text message asking everyone to pray for Cole, as he had slipped into a coma. I cannot find anything about this. You know anything?

    Thanks,

    Jethro

  2. I would like to personally thank all the departing Gov Club members and officers. During your tenure great accomplishments have been attained. With you goes a great legacy that we who are left must maintain and continue.

Well said, my friend, well said.

How did the banquet go? I couldn't get there, but understand it was a good time. Did you get to make it?

Haven't heard all of the college signees yet. What's the word?

    Jethro

PS: Has Bladerunner shown his face around here lately?? I miss him.......

  3. Hey Jethro

I'll let you know as soon as I hear something.. Have you heard from slingblade? We need to let him know where to send our Christmas presents................. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

    tpoole12

Nope, I've not talked to ol' Sling. I've not even been on the site for a while. I'm expectin' some good things from him this Christmas .... I've been good! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Regarding the banquet: Is it only for players and parents, or can the general fan base show up. It would be real nice if we could fill up the Commons area with a bunch of fans and show the guys how much we appreciated their efforts this year. This is a turning point, I'm hoping, for an improved mindset at WB.

    Jethro.

  4. A stat that jumped out at me WB's sacks - 33, Opponents sacks - 4. Is this correct? If so, that is amazing ratio, and both lines should be congratulated.

I noticed that stat also. This is impressive for both offense and defense. I checked the prior year stats and there is nothing quite like it. This was a team!

I would say that the 4 opponent's sacks comes from Tyler's scrambling abilities as well as the line. I thought (in the Bearden game for example) the line wasn't holding up long enough for him for many plays and he would have to scramble.

  5. Some stats for the regular season only can be viewed here: http://stats.prepxtra.com/football/boys/te...5989/2007-2008/ .

Great season, Govs. I know it was a disappointing finish, but in the end, there's only gonna be one team that's happy. You guys played an exciting brand of football and were one of the more entertaining teams I've seen around here in recent years. Good luck to the seniors -- always remember the camaraderie and achievements of this season.

That is a great page! That was exactly what I was looking for.

    Thanks!

  6. thta comment wasnt towards Jethro, the ones it intended for know who they are and what they said and did, look back and you ll see who i m referring to. Probably shouldnt have brought it back up but i was explaining what i thought the other poster was trying to say, my bad.

I know there's gonna be trash-talk .... I just wish it would be on the WB/Bearden thread, or in any other thread.

The intent of this thread is two-fold: 1) Congratulate the players, coaches and everyone else connected with the program on a great year, regardless of the one bad game, and 2) See what might be in store for next year and on down the line.

This year, WB moved from mediocre to top-notch. We've been edging that way over the last few years. One day we will get to the top; it just wasn't this year. While I'm sure we will be back to mediocre from time to time, I'm hoping that we begin to "BELIEVE" in ourselves.

In the past, we've lost good young men to other districts ... we've had kids that don't want to grow up to be a WB football player, but rather an Alcoa, or Maryville, or whatever football player .... we've had kids that went out for the football team just to get a letter. Now, we finally are starting to get a little excitement going with the players, fans, and even our cross-town rivals.

I'm just hoping this is a "sea-change" for a team that is finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

    That's all.

  7. I FROM HOOTERVILLE THOUGHT U GUYS WOULD WIN THE STATE.I WATCHED U PLAY 3 GMS.,DB,OWLS,MCMINN.WB HAD A GOOD TEAM.I HATE THE LOSS LIKE U DID.

    thanks for the comments

REMERBER ALL THE MOUTHING BEFORE AND AFTER THE OOLTEWAH SHOUTOUT,WHAT YOU JETRO SAY ,COMES BACK.U GOT SHOUTOUT.SEE U NEXT YEAR.

I'm not sure what you're talking about by mentioning me, but besides that, how about taking it somewhere else?

  8. I'm starting this thread as a place for William Blount fans to discuss the past football season, future hopes, etc. I respectfully request that all trash-talking from opponents/detractors be taken to another thread.

William Blount players.... thanks for a great season. It didn't end the way we wanted, but you guys have played hard all season long and have nothing to be ashamed of. All season long you played ranked teams and performed very well. All of South Blount Co., and many of our brethren at Maryville and Alcoa have pulled for us and have given us new-found respect.

Thanks also to the coaches. Coach Meadows, you have surrounded yourself with a fine cadre of coaches who have taken the boys to new heights. Keep up the good work during the off-season, and we will have many more victories ahead of us.

I'm hoping a few of the fans will post their comments about the season for the first few posts, and then we will change back to specific football-related issues (prospects, future plans, etc.)

  9. Jethro? Tpoole?

What in the world happened? I picked WB to win the state, a national ranking as well, all world, etc. What went wrong?

I saw an earlier post where Jethro voted Meadows to be coach of the year, I guess he still could be, & if that is the case Phil Fulmer should be as well.

Most outsiders on this board were just like me making bold predictions, buying into this program.

WB actually ran all over my team, I went home with my tail between my legs,

I was looking for a team to jump on the band wagon with & now this. My friends have already started ribbing me...

Tpoole, I just don't know what to say..... 30-0? I mean blow out my team, ok --but WB blown out?

I was at the game and I'm still not sure what happened.

The first quarter was 0-0. Both teams were strong defensively and each offense had maybe 1 first down or maybe 2. We were winning the field position game by virtue of our punter. I may be a a little confused, but I think it was 0-0 when we had them buried at the 1 yard line. We had a procedure call that moved it out to the 6. A couple of plays later, Bearden threw to a wide-open receiver, who raced down the field and scored. And that was it.

From that point on, our safeties and defenders were burnt. We had a few good plays and good stands, but it was not enough to put together anything sustained. Bearden spotted our weaknesses and exploited them expertly. We just didn't seem to want it. (Not taking anything, anything away from Bearden, but this wasn't the Blount team of several weeks ago). We just rolled over. I'm sure that there will be Bearden fans that will get on here and post a bunch of trash talk, but, in fairness, the team Bearden beat was not the same team as the one that played throughout the season.

Not to get too off-topic, but several fans are commenting that our last three games are typically against weaker opponents (McMinn, Bradley, Heritage) then we played Cambell Co., and its like we didn't have any energy or stamina or something. Once we got behind 7-0, we bent. The backbreaker was bearden scoring with 16 seconds to go in the half. That made it 17-0, and took a lot out of our players.

Bearden showed me something. I think if we played our top game, like we have basically every other game this year, it would have come down to one score. From what I saw, Bearden would have won it, even against our A game, but it would have been a game.

This is one of those games where you hate to see it end this way. This one will sting for a while. I'm sure Coach Meadows will regroup and come up with some new plans for next year. This offense was a radical departure from previous seasons and basically put WB "on the map" as a team to be reckoned with.

This sets up an interesting observation .... Farragut gave up 35 points to WB and barely beat them. Farragut gave up 30+ to Ooltewah and barely beat them. Bearden skunked us both. I'm beginning to think that Bearden has gotten must stronger than Farragut as the season has rolled on since their 2OT loss. And, I do think that Bearden wins the battle of West Knoxville. Should be a great game.

  10. Jethro

I wasn't calling you out just merely pointing out to some over zealous Farragut fan that all the talk was rumor and not initiated by a DB fan.

No, I know you weren't. I was just pointing out my thought process to even start the thing. It was being teased out one post every day or so, so I thought I'd just pull it out in the open.

Actually, I saw it on a DB thread, so I think the first leaks of information were by a DB fan.

  11. DB at Farragut....How is DB still playing. Haven't they lost to WB and Bearden this year? Is this a triple elimination tournament? I guess I'll take DB to win simply because they are on the road.

WB at Bearden....This game has the makings to be an instant classic like Tennesee and La Lafayette. WB wins, but only because Bearden uses up all 3 of their timeouts in the 1st half and doesn't have any left to get the ball back late in the game.

West at Maryville...Jake Ryan is my hero. He will throw all over the undersized Maryville corners. No upset here. West big 31-10.

By the way, will any of these games be picked up by Lincoln Financial?

Well, first I thought our Heather was a fat, bald man in drag. But check out that purty handwriting. Those letters are so simple, elegant, and carefully written, I now think she is really a she.

  12. This thread was started by Jethro (not sure with what team his allegiance lies) and NOT by a DB fan. And if you will look at the replies by DB fans they have all taken the stance that this is a non matter with the coaches/team and there focus is totally on winning this game on the field and not with the TSSAA. You can bet on that #51! This thread has not been kept alive by DB fans but by Knoxville area posters who it sounds like DO know about some of the circumstances. It doesn't matter this way.

I started this thread because I kept hearing bits and pieces (look them up -- some kind person cut and pasted the tidbits imany message ago) about a potential ineligible player. This thread was strictly to discover if these are just one person's opinions or if there is some meat to the matter. Plus curiosity was killing me to find out more about the process.

I think the TSSAA ought to come completely clean on every eligibility ruling. I've stated before they should be part of the "sunshine law" where all of their decisions are out in the open. (Maybe they are, but I haven't found anything on their website). I don't like any government (or quasi-government organization, like TSSAA) entity being secretive and having one or two people who rule everything without oversight. Just go back about 3-5 posts and read the story of the "other" Grace player who failed to get eligibility. Isn't their inherent unfairness in that? Why no oversight?

Cockroaches flee from the light. The best thing TSSAA could do is be completely open and this sort of matter would not even make the conspiracy threads. But until TSSAA does this (again, assuming I haven't missed anything on the website), then I think this sort of crud gets perpetuated.

  13. The "artist" (Mr. Mac) that penned the little ditty "865" is from the Blount County burg of Alcoa which is also in "the 865" as is all of Blount County. I'm glad I wasn't drinkin' my RC dopes ... it'd come out my nose!

  15. Heres my opinion..

They staff at WB has done a great job. The one's I know personally are men I am glad to have coaching my child.

Coach Meadows has brought stability to a revolving door program. I have great respect for him for being willing to step out of his comfort zone and install the new offense. Coach Meadows came from a wing t philosophy and to be willing to make a change of this magnitude took courage. I'm sure it was as a dramatic change for him as it was the team.

Coach Emert is a coach who coaches at the top of his voice some of the time, but what he teaches is fundamentally sound. His coaching style may offend some people but his players will be better men because of it. His style may cause some to question his care of his players but the players know that he would fight a bear at night with just a stick to protect them. He expects perfection and is willing to work to get it whether its on the practice field or in the weight room. We are lucky to have him.

I got to know coach Garner many years ago when our current players were just kids. He is the same man and coach now as he was then. A great motivator, teacher and coach.

The rest of the staff I know when I see them, but have watched many practices and have been impressed with their coaching skills.

Young coaches Garner and Whitehead have done well with the young players. I think they have a bright future.

I would like to personally thank all the staff for their hard work and dedication. It takes many hours of preparation to do their job. Most fans do not know how much of their personal time goes into preparation for today, tomorrow, next week or even next year. The season we have enjoyed is due to foundation that was built at the end of last season.
