  1. BB I am also concerned about the club roster of coaches. KVA seems to have mainly young girls who played high school ball but who have no coaching experience. However, there are 4 club coaches who, in my opinion, are well prepared and would be superior to any area high school coaches except Webb. Steve Dallman, Tom Pazko, Shannon Mincey and Jason Keeble.

I believe it is harder to coach a competitive club. BB, name me four high school coaches, other than the Webb coach, with the experience of these four club coaches. I don't think you can do it.

I believe if Mincey wants the Bearden job it's hers. Williams or Keeble are possible fits for Catholic. If CAK opens I don't know, maybe Alves, the middle school coach?

    Thoughts.

That Tom Pazko could be hired to coach a HS team is laughable...Might be a good coach but this individual might last a week at a HS... He totally takes the joy of the game away from every player he touches...

Good news is that this sport IS red hot all over and realistically the evolution of clubs throughout the state is a big part... Volleyball scholarships are approaching basketball #'s for girls and this can only be a good thing!!!

  2. It is truly an outrage...Don't just let the 38K the TSSAA made be the only monetary value here. Middle gets a huge % of revenue from the State which means all these hotel rooms and meal sales tax will still provide MTSU plenty of revenue for doing NOTHING!!!! Chris Massaro (sp) owes all of the participants a personal apology along with the Basketball coaches at Middle.. It's really no surprise little man Rick Ensell would block this being played at Murphy Center as he never allowed Shelbyville HS to even PLAY volleyball during his reign of terror there ...... No issue aimed at the Mboro high schools at all. They're just taking what is presented to them... At the end of the day it is an absolute slap in the face to the sport itself...

Teams if you can stay in hotels down the road in Davidson County!!!

  3. goodpasture no brainer in single A the comp is totally awful

same answer in D-2 A Webb will have no problem

AAA-brentwood Siegel will play twice during event look for Siegel to defend their home court

AA- CAK should win but there's a sleeper out there

D2- AA All 4 teams solid any could win

  4. Farragut beats Blessed Trinity in Finals after beating Tennessee High in semis. Blessed Trinity (Atlanta) avenged an earlier loss to Father Ryan in the other semi-final in what was most certainly the best match of the day... 25-23, 23-25, 15-13..... Overall pretty weak tournament top to bottom but as usual the best teams ended up in the last 4 spots... Now the real seasons begin with district play cranking up this week.... Good Luck to all....

  5. No way I would ever have a child not play for their High School... College prospect or not,  playing for one's high school will make life long memories that playing club will not  bring. I have three players with Division 1 conference championship banners hanging in schools but each of mine still cherishes the State High School championship banners the most.

Totally agree club is the venue to get recruited for college but the lessons learned in most quality HS programs extend into the college careers of these girls.

Don't know any of the Basketball or Baseball players who don't play for their HS teams.

Most College coaches I know would tell you not playing HS is totally selfish.

  6. Blackman and siegel are the more dominant teams, riverdale, even though, strong, will not be able to sustain a good level of playing.  especially by the helm of Jerry.  His leadership is weak, and has a really bad rotation with these girls.  heard that he was leaving this year.  that will be a good thing in the future fo those lady warriors.

I don't understand why you would get on Jerry... He is  great guy who knows volleyball and his players love him... what else would you want from a volunteer coach who has 4 boys playing other sports while he continues to help out kids who need  coaching... get off his case... totally unfounded and totally wrong...

  7. Tennessee HS volleyball lost a true friend and supporter this week when Mr Phil Hargis of Nashville passed away.  As you look through the many threads here on the subject of Volleyball he started many of then...  Even if you didn't agree with his opinions (and he didn't mind) he was a huge supporter of this great sport.  Phil Hargis, may you rest in peace...

  8. Congratulations are in order for 3 Anderson County seniors who are paying for college with a volleyball scholarship, including a D-1 full ride for their Libero.

This past year was a down year (by AC standards) being upset by Farragut in the Regionals, yet 3 of their 4 seniors received scholarships. At the Atlanta qualifier we were approached by 2 different college coaches wanting to know if any Anderson County girls were playing for us.

There is alot of talk on here about club (disclaimer I help run a club) but I can say that I have never heard of a Tennessee school that year in and year out produces more collegiate players. The level of instruction that the AC girls receive is better than most colleges. They don't recruit, rarely have more than 1 or 2 club players, yet produce more college players than any high school in the state. I used to think it was the coaching staff, but they have switched head coaches twice in 4 years and still produce a great product.

Would any of these coaches consider sharing the secret. The AC girls that we are lucky enough to get are first class people, and players. Karns had the most talent last year, but AC was better coached. With what they have coming back expect a return to Murp.

Congratulations Lady Mavericks, keep sending them!

PS I checked and these three bring the CURRENT number of AC players in college to 8!!! That includes 2 division 1 schools and the setter for LEE who should be ranked number 1 in the country. Does anybody else have more than 2 that are currently playing?

    Hopi, what is the deal?

actually Father Ryan had 4 former players playing Division 1 this past season and three went to the NCAA tournament while the other was up 2-0 in the A-Sun tourney finals to make it 4 in the big dance...same deal as Ac and a few others... Ryan has a volleyball "program" that often produces GREAT teams...

  9. Congrats to both Coach Larkin and Coach Sneed... it's nice to have two great teachers and individuals who work hard at it with their girls everyday! While I am proud of the Lady Irish, both coaches would be the first to tell you they still have a long way to go, but I will put these two up against any coach around. It wasn't a "big name" hire at the time that some people expected but it is clear the administration did their due diligence and got it right!! GO LADY IRISH!!!

  10. As has been mentioned, post season play college/university is not new to Tennessee players. In addition to the above, Carson Newman, Lincoln Memorial, Lee university and Freed Hardeman reached post season play with Tennessee players this year.

Tennessee also got a bid and will be hosting Duke this Friday at Thompson Boling... winner likely to play Minnesota Saturday to advance to the Sweet 16

MTSU has a great chance to advance plays Co State friday

See the interactive bracket at www.ncaasports.com

    PS

    Lipscomb got hosed by the committee... Their RPI is 35 in the Nation; an unbelievable ranking for the Lady Bison...and they have to play a seeded team in round 1;

But with 3 seniors expect to see them again next year!!!

PS LSU and Kentucky got in from the SEC

  11. [quote name="bb317

PS Page is not in the top 5 in Middle Tennessee! Rwood' date=' Father Ryan, Inde, Brentwood, Siegel, Ensworth, are all better[/quote]

Well, bb317, if you check our schedule you will see that Page beat Indy twice, Brentwood once, Siegel once, but I guess you're talking about AAA and Div. II-AA as who cares about AA schools. Oh yea, we beat Father Ryan at their tournament, but whose counting.

    Good luck to Father Ryan..

    PM

No disrespect at all intended, simply trying to correct the notion that bwood and page were the only two worthy teams in MId Tennessee!!! I AM rooting for your great team this weekend.... you know that setter of yours is near and dear to us!!!

  12. Here it now Karns beats Ravenwood in 3. Way to much bias on here (not earned) for middle TN. If you take Brentwood and Page out of the equation ET has better volleyball. Sullivan South; DB; Anderson County; Farragut; Red Bank; East Ridge, GPS, Baylor and Ooltewah are always great and better than most Nashville teams. However, on here the nashville posters make up polls and puff chests.

Has siegel ever won anything? What about Rvenwood?

Karns and DB will be in the finals!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Better check to actual results which are a little better than "predictions" Best news... we'll see on Friday... BTW If those teams are so awesome why are they home? South,AC.Farragut,East Ridge (are you serious), GPS... Siegel and Ravenwood are failry new schools. Siegel however has been in State 3 or4 times... like I say You have to be good to get there, you have to be a little lucky to win it all...

PS Page is not in the top 5 in Middle Tennessee! Rwood, Father Ryan, Inde, Brentwood, Siegel, Ensworth, are all better

  13. Someone tell me an error occurred that will soon be corrected. How can the three top teams be in the same bracket? Karns, Ravenwood, and Dobyns Bennett played their hearts out and are the top three teams by winning record, but it is only possible for one of them to play in the State final. The final should be the top teams 1,2, and 3, not number 4,5,7,or 8 unless they manage an upset. Here are the current brackets:

    seed win % team district

    Bracket 1

    7 69.2% Houston (36-16) XV

    5 76.9% Ooltewah (40-12) V

    4 87.0% Siegel (47-7) VII

    8 65.5% Independence (36-19) XI

    Bracket 2

    3 94.1% Dobyns Bennett (48-3) I

    6 72.5% Collierville (37-14) XV

    1 96.0% Ravenwood (48-2) XI

    2 94.6% Karns (53-3) III

    This is nuts!

Here is what they should be unless I'm nuts!

    Seed win % team district

    Bracket 1

    1 96.0% Ravenwood (48-2) XI

    5 76.9% Ooltewah (40-12) V

    3 94.1% Dobyns Bennett (48-3) I

    7 69.2% Houston (36-16) XV

    Bracket 2

    2 94.6% Karns (53-3) III

    6 72.5% Collierville (37-14) XV

    4 87.0% Siegel (47-7) VII

    8 65.5% Independence (36-19) XI

    Thoughts?

Hate to defend the TSSAA, BUT

Records in volleyball typically mean nothing... I mean you would have to look at the whole body of work, tournaments played etc. but that's not how it is done. It's not seeded.

It is a blind draw with teams from the same distict or region never put in the same bracket, meaning Inde, Rwood, and Houston, Collierville had to be seperated.. . In any event, two teams from the same bracket CAN meet in the finals since the format is double elimination. BTW what are the Roman Numerals for?

And yes Good Luck. It takes a really good team to make the state tournament; it takes a little luck to win it!!!

  14. On a personal note from the Father Ryan-GPS match:

GPS senior Katie Dorris and Father Ryan Senior Ellen Mullins had a moment after the match that underscores what athletes should be about. Katie faught through the crowd and found Ellen; the exchange and embrace that followed was a touching end to 4 years of competition between two young ladies who bring it every day but also realize that being rivals on the court ends when the match is over. As tough as it must have been for Katie to know her HS career was over she took the time to congratulate a fellow "warrior". It's little things like this that make Hgh School sports worthwhile. Thank you ladies for a magical moment. Class always rules!!!!!

  15. They have a nice team, finished third in the east lost to Father Ryan and Baylor (in 5).

Scrappy team, one good middle, good outside (14) solid setter and good libero. Lost one of their best players to injury after first Ryan match in September. Will fight hard, well coached. Should be a great match.
