  1. HERE ARE THE PAIRINGS FOR DIVISION II AA SUB-STATE MATCHES

    (no surprises)

THEY ARE TO BE PLAYED ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 24TH TIMES TBA

    ST AGNES @ BAYLOR

    HUTCHISON @ ST BENEDICT

    ENSWORTH @ BRIARCREST

    GPS @ FATHER RYAN 2:00pm

The winners advance to the Final Four in Murfreesboro. Go see your favorite local team, as these and D-II A will be the only High School games played on Saturday. These matches should prove to be as intense as the state as these are winner advances loser goes home matches.

    Good Luck to all.

  2. This is so ridiculous, you's think the TSSAA could post something clean, my goodness we're talking about 12 teams...

Here is my understanding of how this works...

There is no Mid-East Tournament ... this is for sure.

I believe the top 4 seeds from both regions get a bye into the Sub-State game on the 24th.

Seeds 5-12 will play each other on the 17th and the winners will advance to the Sub State round on the 24th. The top 4 seeds will host these matches top from east top 2 from west, currently Father Ryan and Baylor in the east... I guess SBA and Briarcrest in the West

The winners of those 4 matches will comprise the "FINAL FOUR" and go to Murfreesboro for the defacto state championship. I understand it will be double elim but don't know for sure...

Siegel takes 7-AAA regular-season volleyball title

Lady Stars fend off Riverdale to win decisive match

    BY TOM KREAGER

Riverdale pushed Siegel to the brink Tuesday night in both volleyball team's District 7-AAA regular-season finale.

But the Lady Stars pushed back.

Siegel fought off a furious charge to hold off Riverdale to win 19-25, 25-11, 24-26, 25-23, 15-6 at Siegel to complete a perfect district regular season.

The win marked the first time all season that Siegel didn't beat its district opponent in three games.

"(Riverdale) pushed us," Siegel junior Brooke Faulkner said. "We wanted it, but they wanted it too."

Siegel earned the top seed in next week's District 7-AAA tournament at Riverdale with the win. Riverdale is the second seed.

Riverdale (26-17 overall, 8-2 in District 7-AAA) was in position to win the contest. Three Stephanie Click solo blocks in a four-point swing gave Riverdale a 23-21 lead in Game 4.

But Faulkner ended Riverdale's run with a kill before serving out the next three points to force a Game 5.

"They are definitely after us," Siegel first-year coach Ann Mullins said. "I told my girls we are definitely going to have to go to work. We're going to have to play these girls every time we play them."

Siegel trailed 4-3 in the fifth game when Olivia Nolan served seven consecutive points, including two aces. Faulkner had three kills in the run.

"My kids just came out ballin' in the fifth game," Mullins said. "They played great defense. They didn't let anything hit the floor. (Riverdale) didn't either. But we got a couple breaks and didn't let up."

Faulkner led Siegel (32-5, 10-0) with 19 kills. Molly Reidy added 12 kills. Heather Vandiver added four blocks. Setters Becca Cutter and Caroline Gay dished out 19 assists apiece.

Click led the Lady Warriors with 24 kills and seven blocks. Chelsea Ross added 12 kills and two aces. Kirsten Taylor had 11 kills and two aces. Setter Rachel Gocken had 34 assists.

"It was like a chess match against Ann Mullins," Riverdale coach Jerry Snider said. "I know I used four different lineups. She did too. We were trying to do what we could to get an advantage somewhere in the match."

Siegel played without senior Katie Horenkamp, who is out with an anterior cruciate ligament tear. Horenkamp provided a big presence at the net in their first meeting — a 3-0 Siegel win.

Teammate Megan Watson replaced Horenkamp at the net while Jacquelyn Leeman played in the back row for her.

"(Siegel) had dominated volleyball here for the last six years," Snider said. "For us to go from sixth place last year to coming here and having a chance to tie them for the district championship, I think we established that our program can play with them.

"They've got a great coach and great players, but so do we. The thing I told my girls is that we still haven't played our best volleyball."

  5. Battle lines wow, isn't South where the great Coach Schafer started her career? That must have been a little personal. I agree, takes a lot of pressure of DB it's enough to play for a Championship w/o worrying about being undefeated...

  6. Good info

Yes, not having a tournament is pretty bad for all concerned. The post season tourneys really get teams ready to play and provide a natural flow into the Boro. The top seeds will all go 7-10 days without a match... not a good thing... The split continues to make a mess of things. Now you'll have teams traveling even more just to play one match, eg east #7 travels to Memphis...

    Oh well

As of Today with two matches left I believe the standings in the Mid-East D-II Class AA are as follows:

    FATHER RYAN

    BAYLOR

    ENSWORTH

    GPS

    HARPETH HALL

    BGA

    JPII

    BRENTWOOD ACADEMY

Maybe checkerboard can update the West

  7. Belmont and Lipscomb both play at home this weekend with matches versus Kennesaw State and Mercer.

Each school plays Friday night at 6:30 and again on Saturday @ 2.00pm. Great local college volleyball, admission is free and you can see a number of local players and coaches.

Also on Sunday at 4:00pm CDT watch the Lady Vols take on Ole Miss on ESPNU (272 on Comcast.)

  8. Congrats to all of these young ladies as well as the others that I am sure are just as worthy.

I think that it is wonderful to see two girls from this class going to join the University of Tennessee. UT had been without a homegrown talent on their squad for about 7 or 8 years until 2 years ago when they added Harrison. They followed that up with the addition of Rebekah Smith and Jasmine Brown last season. It is my understanding that all three are doing well and should be contributors for the Lady Vols this season.

Going from 0 to 5 in a span of 3 years (roughly 1/3 of the team) is a testament to the quality of growth in Volleyball in the state.

Check, actually Ann Mullins from Father Ryan was on the Tennesee Volleyball team for one or two seasons. This was approximately four years ago. :popcorneater:

My apologies to Ann. I knew there was a young lady from Farragut there around 2000 when I was there, but injuries never allowed her to get on the court. Can't say that I kept the closest of tabs on their roster until last year when Rebekah committed. When Rebekah committed last season, they made mention of something about it getting TN girls. Now that I think back on it, it may be the first time that they have more than one TN girl @ the same time....again, my apologies to Ann.

    Checkerboard, no apolgies necessary!!

  9. Congrats to all of these young ladies as well as the others that I am sure are just as worthy.

You are correct, Ann played at Tennessee 2003 and 2004 seasons, started as a freshman, got hurt, transfered to Lipscomb, rest is history.

  10. PrepVolleyball.com is proud to present its Senior Aces, the top 250 volleyball recruits in the Class of 2010. We’ve been working hard since May to identify and compile a list of the best U.S. recruits in the next senior class. The sole criterion was potential impact over four years at the next level. High school achievement was not a factor nor was the university they would attend. Foreign players were not considered. Many on the list you are familiar with, but there will be just as many whose names you may never have come across.

Compiling the list has been an arduous task. I have a contact list of about 120 college coaches who have asked to be involved in the process. They received the initial list of several hundred names May 7 for comment and at least four more times thereafter.

To date, more than 70 coaches have participated. While I can’t reveal their names, I can assure you that I received input from the four corners of this country and many places in between. The college coaches themselves are solely responsible for the names on this list. PrepVolleyball.com’s only role was to act as facilitator. There were, understandably, some disagreements. Lots of disagreements, actually. Coaches evaluate talent differently. That made this process frustrating at times, but much more challenging. I am encouraged because, at the end, most coaches felt that the process had produced the best list possible.

Is the list perfect? No. Is it scientific? No. Will players not on the list emerge as future All-Americans and impact players at their respective colleges and universities? Undoubtedly.

What this list represents is the best effort of some of America ’s most fertile volleyball minds to identify the top recruits at a snapshot in time. Nothing more. Nothing less. I thank profusely the college coaches who participated. This list would not be possible without you.

    John Tawa Editor Prepvolleyball.com

Congratulations to these young ladies from Tennessee who made the list:

    Kylan Scheidt Setter Farragut Tennessee

Nicole Smith Outside hitter Page Notre Dame

Ellen Mullins Libero Father Ryan Tennessee

Senior Aces top 250 players in the nation. Quite an achievement, congrats to these ladies.

Also to Merideth Richardson, Ravenwood-North Carolina State who was Honorable Mention.

  11. bad move very bad...teams sign up for this to play in Murfreesboro... can't believe an employee of a Rutherford county school would move all of these hotel rooms and the taxes to Williamson County... Hope she doesn't expect a raise next year...oh that's been handled!!!
