1. QUOTE(takedown3 @ Feb 24 2007 - 05:30 PM) 826387433A culmination of bad behavior. The straw that broke the camel's back occured after football season. Would a lesser athlete been given multiple chances? Oh I'm sorry! I'm being cynical about The Baylor School for Boys and Girls' honor system.

I believe the rules are applied equally across the board. 2 strikes (for this particular sin) and you're done. Look back over the last 5 or 6 years and you'll find more than one senior that was outstanding in both academics and athletics that had the same fate. Gnaw on 'em for real issues. Not ones that you conjure up.

  2. QUOTE(Philippians 4_13 @ Feb 17 2007 - 03:24 PM) 826376393

The officiating was not perfect mind you, but there were some inconsistentcy in regards to the way calls were made.

The Div II 140 semi finals match between Bell and Cash was just one example where a wrestler was allowed to stall the entire period and not one call was made. The official as set by the provisions in the rule book shall penalize stalling immediately. On two occasions Bell held on the legs of Cash at the line never working to back to the hip and not one stalling call came against Bell. Cash came to his feet 10-12 times in the second period.

The Div I 160 finals match with Wright and Creagan. Wright got on his bicycle during the last period and the official made the call way too late.

The Div II 189 finals match with Williams and Mix. Williams stalled the entire third period and the call if made was late.

The Div I 152 finals match with Spain and Toney. The official awarded a stalling point to the offensive wrestler. The bottom guy could not move because the top guy was literally sitting on his hips.

The Div I finals match at 189 Robertson and Hall from Maryville. There was a situation where the match should have been stalemated. The official allowed them to sit there for nearly 40 seconds before stopping the action. Neither wrestler could improve their position and therefore the official shall, as soon as possible STOP the match and wrestling shall be resumed as for an out of bounds.

The above examples are in NO WAY meant to diminish the State Champions. Bell, Wright, Williams and Spain are the State Champions and Congratulations to those guys. They're not at all responsible for the actions and calls of the officials.

So before the comments pour in about someone whinning, I'm NOT. But unless there is a level on consistency attained with the ranks of high school officiating this will continue. I don't have a dog in the fight as of yet. But, when he does get to Chattanooga he'll have already learned to never leave it the guy wearing the stripes.

Now, on the positive. There were far far more instances of really good officials having not missed a beat. However, we have a tendency, myself included to focus on the mistakes. For those officials that did a good job and you know who you are, THANK YOU. My comments are merely meant and should be taken in a constructive manner.

Add the DII 285 where an illegal hold injured one of the wrestlers to the point of his having to finish one armed. And there was the constant backing up with no stalling called. There was very little consistency.

  3. I was proud of the effort Courtney gave in the finals. It was like seeing an icon go down. I think it is symbolic of everyone on this thread who tried to bring Coffee down when I saw him go down at state. I don't know about you but I'm done hearing about the negatives on this kid. I hope to hear good things that have come out of this situation and year. I hope to hear Courtney Coffee has learned something and he takes the higher road to success.

    God bless you Courtney!

An icon? The symbolism, IMHO, is that substance doesn't count for much. If you're big and fast enough, a lot of folks will love and adore you and think of you as an icon.

Congrats to a fine Big Red squad ...once again.

Note: I thought Joe did an exceptional job against a powerful BJ. And what's up with TJD's head gear thing?

Just another in a long line of examples of poor poor sportsmanship by a low class group

hey this is a wrestling board and i was just tellin him that if he was posting here he should already know what that means

    Chill. Don't be a shmuck

  6. I know this is a year old but i just wanted to let yall know how i was doing. If you do or don't know i was the young man that was in the wreck. As of today i am still paralyzed from the chest down. Other then that things are going good. I still try and go to all the greeneville meets and try and get involved as much as i can. the post by lefty87 was prity much what happend. Somthing i have learned was to live every day like it was your last cuz you never know when somthing like this could change it and i have learnd that wereing your seat belt is alot cooler then having to roll around in a wheelchair or not be breathing. If i could change one thing b4 the wreck i would have changed my character. I did not treat people bad but i could have treated them better i could have had better character. In what seams like a very short year to me i have learnd to deal with things that most people will never have to deal with and i could have never done that without my friends, famley, and the prayers. I hope what i have said can help other people and mybe save some ones life.

That's very strong. My specific prayer is for God to move in your life.

I've not seen the official itinerary either, but I expect the fun and frivolity will commence at the Holiday Inn on Wilma Drive (right by Exit 4 off I-24) shortly after the D 1 7:30 matches end. I spoke briefly with the folks at the Holiday Inn today, and they seem to be a likable, tolerant bunch. I think they'll be much more accommodating of us than the there'll-be-no-more-fun-of-any-kind manager dude at the place where we stayed last year.

Can somebody tell me if the posted times for the matches is central or eastern

  8. i doubt McCallie will forfeit at any weight...those on the inside (which i am not but know and talk to many of the wrestlers) know that Mccallie weighed in multiple wrestlers at most weights...old GC is capable of shifting and shuffling his line-ups in order to avoid forfeiting any weights...but all that being said i doubt we'll see Joe instead of Will taking on Ben J...most of our wrestlers seem to be dealing with the loss well...i think this time it will be even closer...i believe we will avoid pins at 152, and 285, but i'm in no mood to make a bold prediction for you WV....i will just enjoy watching this one...i will say this i do believe the winner won't win by more then 4 points...hopefully its the blue that wins this time, when it counts

How do you reckon they'll avoid a pin at 285? I don't think Blue could stall anymore than they did.

  9. IF U THINK WALENVOL CAN TOUCH CONNELL YOU ARE SADILY MISTAKEN. WALENVOL COULDENT LAST HALFWAY INTO THE 2ND PERIOD WITH O'L GC. BUT U CAN THINK WATEVER YOU WANT HIS SON GOT A LUCKY WIN AT THE TVAC LAST YEAR AFTER THAT MARTINO BOY FROM MCCALLIE WAS ABOUT TO STICK HIM AND HE SCREAMED AND TAPPED OUT. EVERYONE IN THE STATE OF TN KNOWS ABOUT THAT \

Get a life. Great job tonight by both teams. Good crowd, good ref and great competition.

  10. QUOTE(TojoYamamoto @ Jan 24 2007 - 09:01 PM) 826344635

When we go to other states to wrestle, I quickly become more appreciatiave of Chattanooga refs. I feel that way within the state too when we get outside of Chattanooga; I just feel like Chattanooga refs continually remain "students of the game."

Truer words have ne'er been spoken. We have the best, by far, officials in the tri-state area.

  11. QUOTE(soms @ Jan 24 2007 - 08:42 PM) 826344613

One important note for all you guys that love to bad mouth officials (and I used to on occasion myself)... before you say one bad thing, go out there and put on the stripes,,, or at least go call wrestle offs with the parents present, if the coach allows it.

Deal with the confrontation and split second calls that you must make as the clock runs out and/or as the wrestlers are heading out of bounds. Deal with stalling calls. Try to make the right call on a TD or pin while you are trying to protect the wrestlers from injury. Heck, in Chattanooga they have only one ref for the big ones where as in Middle TN they usually have two (unlike MBA, BA and FR had last week though). Hey, we all have bad days at work. Imagine making the big calls under pressure in front of 2000 screaming folks. All they get is about $5 a match.

It takes so much time and practice to get good at this. It is entirely another sport.

My hat's off to all those who call these matches.

Thanks to those who also teaches and mentors others, especially the young ones. Who comes to your mind... Maybe Donnie Elsie, Danny Gilbert, or Mike Craft. I've noticed this out of some of our best here in Middle TN and can't say enough about some of those, and you know who you are ... those that have been knocked out while trying to keep our boys safe... And some of you that step up and become medical professionals when that unfortunate injury occurs, i.e, David Holcomb.

Let these guys work on their jobs as we all must do in life, as human beings.

What I ask for is an effort. Mistakes happen. Judgement calls happen. The breaks don't always go to the good guys. But, for the hours of work that the wrestlers put in, it chaps my dunigan to watch a lazy ref.

  12. QUOTE(amIaCoach @ Jan 24 2007 - 06:47 PM) 826344476

Wow what a topic to start just before Regions... I must say though in all sports the hardest working is the wrestling ref... Some tournaments where kids max out at 5 matches most refs do anywhere from 50 to 75 matches alone... That is a lot of work if you ask me.. As for who has the better officials that is hard to say because you have the Chattanooga side of the line and there are some great officials there and guess what they have some that need to improve also... Mid Tenn officials lets face it they have a lager load to deal with. The go all the way down to Lincoln County all the way up too Cookville and Clarkesville. They go to Tullahomana and Warren county. Dont for get Dickson and Harpeth too. This is a pretty big area to cover if you ask me. They also cover 3 different middle school leagues. So id think they are strung out pretty thin with only having 48 officials . Some of those are semi retired... We all know that some great refs have retired across over the years. There are still some great officials left and they do a great job at what they do. There are some coming up through the ranks that are getting better each year... I dont know much about Memphis or Knoxville since I dont go and watch up there very often.... The bottem line is that the officials dont get the respect they should. I know that I would have a hard time doing what they do, and putting up with the crap that they put up with too..... So parents and coaches and even westlers lets all remeber to say thanks every once in a while to these guys because we dont want to run off all of them off because we would be stuck with coaches refereeing.....

I agree. And what makes the good ones good is their hard work. Their hustle to get on the mat. To be ahead of what's going on and their absolute intensity to get it right. It's also what makes the bad ones stick out like a sore thumb.

I'd like to go public record as saying that I think ALL the referrees do a WONDERFUL job of calling matches and that EACH & EVERY one of them are truly FINE individuals. Especially the ones who ref my kid's matches.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Eddie Haskall

Thank you, Eddie. I second that. With the exception , though, of the striped fellows in the McCeachern area. (Spelling minus 1 I'm sure). The local guys work hard to get it right. The guys down south don't seem to work at much of anything

Hang on there buckwheat. If my memory serves me, The Irish are the defending A/AA State Champs, and are still the top dog until someone knocks the snot out of them. I ain't saying it won't happen,it just hasn't happened yet.

Congrats to your Bears, kinda surprised me on 2 of the outcomes. Notice your boy wasn't on the front page, what happen WG wouldn't take a check

Are we sure Collins Hill beat Baylor this year

  15. QUOTE(BayouBear @ Jan 19 2007 - 04:13 PM) 826337960

I've asked this question for several years and still do not have a complete answer.

Who are the voters on the Coaches Poll?

Over the years I have been able to ascertain three voters (2 of which are not High School Head Coaches). The others are still a mystery. It's also hard to understand how Baylor could have been voted #1 over Soddy. The Poll is always preceded by a message that says "poll is primarily a measure of dual meet strength". Since Soddy defeated Baylor earlier in the season I gather the voters either did not know or thought it was a fluke. Kind of like the BCS.

    Here's the Tennessee Coaches Poll.

    1 - Baylor

    2 - Soddy

    3 - Father Ryan

    3 - Bradley

    5 - Ooltewah

    6 - McCallie

    7 - MBA

    8 - CBHS

    9 - Franklin

    10 - BA

    Here's the BBTNBCSLBS Poll

1 - Collins Hill, GA (beat Bradley and Baylor)

2 - CBHS (They are 25-0 this year)

    3 - Bradley (Beat Soddy)

    4 - Soddy (Beat Baylor)

    5 - Baylor

    6 - Franklin

    7 - McCallie

    8 - Father Ryan

    9 - Ooltewah

10- Seymour (The top A-AA school should be ranked somewhere)

  16. Congratulations to a great Soddy team. What a great way to win it, going down to the the winner of the overtime 215 finals match. Lettner, and the whole Soddy team pulled it off. Tyler Roberson also looked strong against a good Olsen from Walton.

I'm interested to know if any of the wrestlers are having any issues with sores or scratches that are looking funny, as in, puffy, red, oozy, etc.

  17. I'll sleep better tonight knowing your on PUNISHMENT PATROL. Has it occurred to you that getting booted out of school or withdrawing whatever the case was serves as enough punishment. You seem very eager for the kid to lose any opportunity to wrestle again, that begs the question do you have a 215lb wrestler?

I agree and all the above self serving posturing aside, the joke was pretty dad gum funny
