  1. Houston came out a little tentative. For about the first ten minutes, they weren't able to possess and went the "kickball" route. #5 and #15 for Franklin looked like they were going to wreak havoc all day. They got through the Houston defense and got a shot off 30 seconds in. They were the reason for Franklin's game-opening goal.

Houston getting the PK for their first goal was all they needed. Totally different team when they were confident. #25 was unstoppable. It seemed there was a chance on goal every time she touched the ball. The fact that she got a hat trick in the first half was awesome. That she did it on a bum ankle on her dominant foot...downright inspiring.

With every goal, Franklin got more frustrated and really never posed a threat. Fairly dominating performance. Well deserved win and champion.

Time to get your picks in for the the tournament. Don't forget to add your tiebreaker (total number of goals scored in the tournament.)

If you're a substitute teacher younger than 20, then yes, you're the youngest.

However you probably do have a lot more free time than me.

    23...you win.

  4. So I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume that I'm the youngest one in this competition and the only one without a full-time job (currently a substitute teacher.) Had a lot of free time today and decided to make this easier on everyone else. Did some figuring and this is what I have after the first round...

**Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think your Sectional winners are possible. If Dyersburg wins thier Regional final and if McNairy had lost their final (as you predicted), they would meet in the Sectionals meaning only one can go to state.

  5. Just for clarity's sake...

Am I correct in assuming that we are not including the Region 7 and 8 semifinals since they had already taken place before Tuesday 10/26? This would give a possible total of 12 points for the first round (12 games, 1 point for each.)

All of the Region finals count because they were all played on or after Tuesday. This would be a possible total of 16 points (8 games, 2 points each.)

Sectionals are 4 points each. 8 games for a possible 32.

    Highest possible total: 56

  6. R1 - Greeneville and Elizabethton, with Greeneville winning the region

R2 - Kingston and CAK, with CAK winning the region

R3 - CSAS and East Hamilton, with EH winning the region

R4 - ND and CCS, with ND winning the region

R5 - CPA and Lipscomb, with CPA winning the region

R6 - Page and Spring Hill, with Page winning the region

R7 - Dyersburg winning the region

R8 - McNairy Central winning the region

  7. As the assistant coach of Montgomery Central, I can report that our keeper is at home and doing well. She has regained all movement and feeling. The diagnosis is a really bad stinger (thus the initial loss of feeling and movement) and a deep bruise to the base of the neck/top of the spinal cord, where the contact was made. We'll have to watch over the next couple of day for any symptoms like headaches, tingling, etc. but she should make a full recovery and be on the field next year (along with the other 10 starters...so we'll see you next year White House ;) ).

The ref made the right decision by not making a call. It was an even challenge on a breakaway, just an unfortunate chain of events. In making the stop, our goalie tucked her chin to her chest to protect her face, which was still healing from a tender orbital bone after being kicked. The White House player made contact on the back of her head and neck pusing it down and in farther.

And yes, 45 minutes is a long time to wait for an ambulance. However, we were at East Robertson High School (far away from any hospital our ambulance bay I know of) and the EMT First Responders were there fairly quickly. Plus, the athletic trainer on site was awesome. She reacted quickly and efficiently. She even came with us to the hospital to ensure everything was okay.

I hate that our season had to end this way because holding White House to a 1-0 lead at halftime was a huge victory for us. We would have liked to have played a full game but we as coaches knew there was no way either team was going to be able to respond after witnessing a traumatic injury. Heck, I probably couldn't even have responded. Good luck to White House in the finals! They deserve to be there and I hope they represent the district well. The team and their fans were a class act last night.

  10. The semi's and finals of the tournament will now be played at Creekwood. As stated, Harpeth will be unable to host due to flooding. Also, Clarksville Academy's quarterfinal game will be played at Montgomery Central. Top seeds host every other game unless noted. Here's the schedule:

    Saturday 5/8

    W6 Harpeth v. W7 Waverly (@ Waverly)

    Monday 5/10

    W3 Sycamore v. E6 East Robertson

  11.

So, with the top two teams in each side getting a bye, will the district tournament look something like this:

#3East vs #6 West, winner plays #1 East

    #4West vs #5East, winner plays #2 West

#3 West vs #6 East, winner plays #1 West

#4 East vs #5 West, winner plays #2 East

    It's a little different...

    #4 West/#5 East vs. #1 East

    #3 East/#6 West/#7 West vs. #2 West

    #4 East/#5 West vs. #1 West

    #3 West/#6 East vs. #2 East

6 and 7 seeds in the West have a play-in game for the game against East 3-seed.

  12. I've updated the district standings above with the records for each team within the division.

Here's the schedule of remaining District games:

    April 27th

    Montgomery Central @ Cheatham Co

    Waverly @ Creekwood

    White House @ East Robertson

    Macon Co @ WH-Heritage

    April 29

    Montgomery Central @ Waverly

    Sycamore @ Creekwood

    Cheatham Co @ Harpeth

    Macon Co @ White House

    May 4

    Sycamore @ Montgomery Central

  13. This year, several new teams were added to the district, White House, Greenbrier, Macon Co. and Fairview moved out.

Speaking of the tournament, does anyone know how it will work with an odd number of teams? I understand the tournament will be held at Harpeth.

We gained Merrol Hyde too. 4 teams in, 1 team out...biggest district in the whole state now.

The tournament is cross-divisional. 6 and 7 from the West play the Saturday after the end of the regular season to narrow it down to twelve teams. Top 2 seeds from both divisions get byes in the first round. East 6 plays West 3. West 6/7 plays East 3. East 5 plays West 4 and so on. First round games are at the highest seed. As of the last District meeting, Semis and Finals are played at last year's winner...which was WH-Heritage.

  14. Here's an updated look at the District standings as of tonight...

    East Division

    1. Merrol Hyde 4-0-1

    2. White House-Heritage 2-0-2

    3. Greenbrier 2-2-1

    4. Macon County 1-2-0

    5. White House 0-1-2

    6. East Robertson 0-4-0

    West Division

    1. Clarksville Academy 6-0-0

    2. Cheatham County 3-1-0

    3. Sycamore 2-2-0

    4. Creekwood 1-2-1

    5. Harpeth 1-2-1

    6. Montgomery Central 1-2-0

    7. Waverly 0-4-0

The division leaders have their spots wrapped up. All of the other ones are still up for grabs.
