  1. Well, Tennessee High headed down to the Anderson County Tourney this weekend. Not a stellar performance for a big part of the day, but they finally stepped up and played Anderson County.

AC took the first match, with THS digging out of a big hole to make it close. THS went on a tear in the second game, and won 25-18 (I think). It was a very good match for both teams with great rallies, offense and great defense by both.

Of course this was after Hillcrest from Simpsonville SC walked all over everyone in the gym. They were stout!!!

The officiating was interesting, as they were breaking in a rookie crew of officials. And I do mean rookie!!!

  2. Tennessee High won over Crockett, lost to Central, won over DB in 5 in a squeaker, lost to South in 3 but played well. Not sure what happened w/ Central. Maybe next time. So in conference THS is 2-2

My understanding was that Central lost to Sullivan East, however now a non-conference game for Central, et al.

Science Hill is tonight for THS.

  3. I didn't get to go to Media night last night at DB, was officiating a scrimmage for my other daughter's crew. In the first round, DB over THS 33-31 in a close one, THS over Central 30-22, and THS over Crockett 30-15.

KVC sent a 16yo team to Orlando, as did TEVA this year.

I can say that Heather Harvey, the setter for South, will turn some heads. Great young lady, great court awareness, and pretty good hands to boot. All of our girls will get looks thanks to her!!

  4. My daughter played for KVC's 18 team this year, with several of the South and DB players (and the Rice gals!!). Great group of girls. Don't underestimate DB this year. Most of them played 17's at KVC with Christina Maiden at the helm, former asssitant coach at Science Hill. Christina and I coached 18 club a few years ago. They started a very bumpy club season, but ended strong. They will be one of the teams in the run for the top two spots up here.

Tennessee High is probably stronger that we have been in many years. Talented middles, good outsides, and a very good defense. Scrimmages have looked good. They are still jelling, and should have a legitimate shot at the top two spots in the region. Coach Johnson is excited as well. We are looking for good things this year from THS.

Media night at DB tonight. We'll see what happens!!

  5. Trainwreck23, if your at the officials table then you should know better, I have spoken to a parent of Tn high who was there, the only F -bomb dropped was by one of your players refering to a AC players hair! Just understand AC and Sullivan-South are the programs that all volleyball programs hope to attain. I am a little ashamed that has adults we dont reconize this and thank each program for its leadership in ladies volleyball. Also Coach Cantrell is a volunteer coach with 30 plus years devoted at AC. He has given to statewide volleyball more than any present day coach. He does questions calls because honestly me may have seen more than the officials that is calling the game. I have coached against Coach Cantrell and been around him for a number of years. Never have I heard a foul word or bad remark against another young lady. This is simply a LIE!

Right. You win. Why don't you google "winning an argument on the internet"

BTW, confirmed the AC issues with a couple of refs. They were also appalled.

  6. Nothing about winning or loosing. Which coach got a yellow card during the match for yelling at the ref?

For a team that is supposed to be a dominating force, a score of 25/18; 25/23 doesn't sound dominating. Look at what DB has done to teams; that is domination. And THS took a game of DB last week. We are playing with sophmores and juniors (no seniors)and doing a decent job.

Not a post by a sore loser. My daughter came home freaking out about the profanity used by AC as well as the conduct of the players and coaches. She has played club now for 5 years and school ball for four and never experienced this before.

No, not typical in Dist 1. None of our teams act like AC.

  7. Someone needs to properly instruct the AC players and coaches on sportsmanship. While they may play adequately, they are sorely lacking in this area.

Constantly cursing opposing players on the court, cursing refs, and addressing their opponents at the net following the match with "F--k You" is really classy.

If this is what it takes to have a winning program, we don't need it.

  8. Not taking anything away from Hallie Vannoy, but she is walking on to MTSU which is still a great position to be in. MTSU is a top 15 program in the country and Matt does take many walk ons into his program. She will get great training in practices but realistically will see little court time.

You do take away from Halie when you make the foregoing statement, as you obviously do not know her. She is not a "walk on" at MTSU, and I certainly wouldn't put her in the category of "cannon fodder" as you obviously have done.

I had the good fortune to work with and coach Halie last year at Tennessee Elite on the 18 National team. Halie is probably one of the hardest working players I know with phenomenal court presence and awareness. She has great defensive skills, agressive and quick. She was our libero, and when needed, an outside hitter. I will put her toe to toe with any defensive player in the state.

My understanding is that she will be a starting defensive player next year, although none of know that except the MTSU staff.

  9. During club play last year while coaching a group of 18's, and after watching the opposing libro finger set the ball 3x while standing on the attack line, I unloaded on the ref. After the match, he ran to the official who was taking over the court and confronted him over the fact that I was complaining about the libro sets. After the first ref left, I spoke with the oncoming ref, he apologized, and said the ref didn't know the rule.

I don't mind missing judgment calls here and there, but a certified ref not knowing the rules is kind of inexcusable.

  10. Science Hill came into their own in the last 1/3 of the season. If they are on all cylinders, I think you are overlooking their play.

DB, lots will depend on the health of their team. If Megan Devine is back, watch out, they will be tough.

  11. Science Hill beat Morristown West and Dobyns Bennett beat Morristown East. Science Hill and Dobyns Bennett will play at 6:30 Tuesday night.

Science Hill (1) over Dobyns Bennett (2) in 4 games.

Science Hill plays at home Thursday, DB plays in Knoxville.

  12. Unbelievable to me that your district does double elimination for its district tournament. I love it! I just cant believe that TSSAA allows it.

Way to go up yonder in the corner

First round is single elimination, that's how THS and Sullivan East got knocked out with one loss.

Top team gets a bye, then the 8 & 9 seeds play, with the winner to get a shot at #1. So, after the 8/9 match, then its 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6 and 4 vs. 5. First round loosers go home (as does the looser of 8/9), leaving 4 teams in double eliminations.
