  1. Granger was all over this board last year running down our coach. I think they learned their lesson. But the writers always pick them ahead of Elizabethton. They only beat HV by 13 and HV had it close at times. The cyclones have to rebound because they have a couple of big girls that block out well. But if EHS hits the 3's like they do, rebounds will just be taking it out of the nets.

The spelling is Grainger not Granger.  Elizabethton should win because, well, they are Elizabethton.

  2. Greeneville has added another transfer that is supposed to be really good. They are the clear favorite in my opinion. Chuckey Doak usually has one also. Claiborne and Grainger return a lot from last year. CD, Claiborne, and Grainger should battle for second.

  3. It does not matter since Grainger will be a district runner up which means they have a priority in seeding over Scott who will be a wildcard.

Wondering what would happen if Claiborne should beat Grainger.  There would be a 3 way tie for second in the district with Chuckey Doak, Claiborne, and Grainger all being 3-2 in the district.  What would the tie breaker be.  Would Grainger still get in with 4 wins if they are not the District runnerup?

  4. Good points made above by magicman. There is only one problem. According to my sources, district 2 is hosted only by Chucky Doak or Greeneville. So all other teams in the district do not get the rotation advantage during regional games.

Dont be so sure about those being the only 2 sites. Grainger is in the mix and they have the best facility in the region. Best parking, seating, dressing rooms, and restroom facilities. The school is also easily accessible. You may well be traveling to Grainger for the Region next season.
  5. They have a tiny room inside each lockeroom but thEy do not have separate bathroom facilities in them. Boys and girls should not have to be in the same room. Yes it was packed, that's because it was so small. Grainger also has the nicest gym in the BRAC. It is better than any of the others. It will seat 2500. That's about 1000 more than CD.

  6. Parking at CD is terrible. No designated place for team buses to park. Boys and Girls teams had to share the same locker rooms. CD did not vacate their locker rooms. They were used only for CD teams. I have never been to a tournament that the home team did not clear out their lockeroom to be used by everyone. when you host tournaments you should be hospitable to everyone. It was all about CD. Special sections for their students but not for anyone else's. CD girls played well in final game. Grainger did not. They did however have a 7 point lead with between 3-4 minutes remaining. They were fouled on consecutive possessions on layups. Twice on one possession. None of these fouls were called. These were not borderline calls. They were blatant missed calls. If they had been called the game is probably over. Credit to CD for converting when they were not called. The officials clearly impacted the outcome of the game. CD then brought out the ladder to cut down nets before trophies were awarded. This is against TSSAA policy. Losing team should not have to watch. Grainger was awarded their plaque while this was taking place, but could not go to their lockeroom because Sullivan East boys team was in there. Poor tournament site and poor hosts.

  7. Yes I do believe I have given them credit for their 31-2 season. I said that any team that wins 30+ games in a season deserves a great deal of credit. Also, to go undefeated in conference play is always commendable because of the inherent rivalries that usually exist. Such rivalries often result in the overall weaker team knocking off the better team occasionally. Regardless of how good a team is, it's difficult to avoid a letdown like that during the course of a season. Grainger was able to avoid letting that happen. Again, none of my comments were intended to diminish Grainger's success this season, but rather to offer an opinion based on the cummulative rationale already provided, that in spite of this commendable success I don't expect it to continue much further when stacked up against other teams in the state. Hopefully, I am wrong. Who knows what could happen if they get past substate? At that point all remaining teams are good, but the records aren't as meaningful. As an example, I played on a team that made it to the semis in AAA in high school. Going into the tournament our record was 30-6 and we were ranked 7th in the AP. Our first round opponent was 30-0 and ranked 1st in the AP. We won. Conversely, we were beaten in the semis by a Memphis team that had several losses and weren't even ranked if memory serves me. The same year Hampton boys had a .500 record going into the district tournament because they had played a grueling schedule including many AA and AAA teams. I believe they may have won out through the district, regional and substate and were barely beaten in the state championship game. Consequently, I think talent, match-ups, and the draw are more significant than records at this point in the post-season. But I digress - that's a different subject for a different time - now back on task. Kudos to Grainger for 31-2! Yipee! Awesome! Hooray! WhoooHooo! :thumb::thumb: Have I met an acceptable "credit" threshold yet? Now I know how Coachh feels when his dissenters gang up on him...LOL

Thought you were done talking about it several posts ago etown!

  8. Funny how you continue to say I have a hard time giving others "credit." The real issue must be your perception of what "credit" really is. I have said multiple times that Grainger deserves "credit" for their performance and record this year. They have done presumably what no other Grainger team has ever done, i.e. won the district with 30+ wins (unless I'm wrong). I guess that doesn't count as "credit" since I didn't pick them to win the state championship. Honestly, I don't understand your apparent anger and why you seem to be so offended by my comments. I haven't degraded Grainger at all - just offered an opinion about how I feel they stack up against others in the state. I could expound my prognostication to say that I don't think either R2 team has a realistic chance at winning state either. I guess that could be misconstrued as not giving those teams "credit" for good seasons either. Also, I think it's funny how you are compelled to take shots at EHS during this discussion too. You have your opinions and I have mine. I suspect most that know high school basketball and have seen these teams play this year would agree my assessment is fair. Oh well, I'm done with this exchange. Good luck to the Grainger girls in their quest for regional, substate and state championships. The games will surely be decided on the floor and not on this forum.

Thanks. Grainger High is only 4 years old. We used to be Rutledge and we have had 3 previous teams make the state tournament with 2 of those advancing to the semifinals.

  9. Apparently you haven't read my comments closely. My initial comments were confined to the possibilities of R1 teams making the state tournament. No doubt it is an awesome feat just to get to Mboro. I was just offering an opinion about how Grainger likely stacked up to other AA competition across the state this year. Another point I was trying to make is that the AP rankings make for good conversation, but are hardly foolproof as a predictor of how the state tournament will go. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm sure you know this already, but EHS has never won a gold ball (or silver for that matter). They have been to Mboro twice in the past five years though. Again, my posts have nothing to do with EHS. If you want to make this a debate on EHS vs. Grainger, come back on here in about 10 years after Grainger has won 5 or 6 Regional championships, been to Mboro multiple times or have a gold ball and we might have something to debate. By the way, I'm interested in your opinion on something. How do you think this year's Grainger team stacks up against last year's Betsy team? I could say more, but I will refrain. Nevertheless, I still hope Grainger makes it to the Boro and wins it all this year. Good luck!

Last year is last year. Those girls from etown graduated. Grainger still has theirs and will return most of them next year. They played last year and Elizabethton won with a very veteran team against a very young team. No way to compare how it would come out if both teams were at the same experience level. Say all you want to say I don't really care, but I do know that EHS is already at the house this season. It is not a debate about EHS and Grainger. Just funny how you have a hard time giving anyone else any credit.

  10. etown,

You are the only one on here talking about winning it all. Just getting to the Boro is a great accomplishment. Once you get there then everything else is gravy. They have been ranked as high as 4th. That would indicate that three other teams have a better chance of winning the gold ball. Remind us all of the last time that Elizabethton won the gold ball.

  11. His opinion is valuable because he knows basketball. No, I'm sure he hasn't seen every team in the state, but he's seen enough to know what he is talking about. I'm sure he meant no disrespect to Grainger. Congrats to the Lady Grizzlies for winning D2 and making the R1 final (which they will likely win). However, D2 is as weak overall as I've seen in many years. D1 was totally disappointing this year too. Good luck to Grainger, but I don't see them winning a gold ball this year, but that's why they play the games. We'll see how it goes...

You can be a highly ranked team and not win the gold ball. Upperman and Fulton lost last night and they were ranked.

  12. Shows you what I don't know. Based on the scoreboard it appears that Loudon and Stone Memorial beat Pigeon Forge and Fulton tonight in R2.

Also, both R1 games were very close tonight with Grainger surviving against Greeneville and CD slipping by South Greene. These performances may not bode well for the possibility of getting a R1 representative in the state tournament. I talked to someone that saw the games tonight and the most notable comment he made was that Grainger is not the #3 team in the state.

And what makes his opinion so valuable. Has he seen every team in the state? I doubt it. What is his top ten?

  13. I never said Greeneville would win. I think Unicoi will actually win. I just said that you shouldn't base your prediction on how they played versus common opponents.

My prediction was based from having watched Greeneville vs. Grainger and Grainger vs. Unicoi. I realize matchups make the difference. This is not a good matchup for Greeneville. Thats all I am saying, and again I'm for the BRAC.
