  1. MLK High School raised about $17,000. We took a trip to Jacksonville, FL for spring break. We worked Titans games and the Sommet Center concessions. We're only working Titans games next year, but more of them so that we make more money. The Sommet Center was too much of a hastle. The school only pays for the two coaching stipends as head and assistant coach. In order to hire another coach for JV the head and assistant would have to give up a portion of their stipend.
  2. MLK had a nice run while it lasted. The FRA game could have gone either way but what if MLK would have won it and gone into the finals? By far the best team MLK has ever seen. Good luck to Lipscomb and FRA in the regionals.
  3. Lipscomb vs. CPA 4:00 Tuesday MLK vs. FRA 7:00 Tuesday MLK won in the last inning 6-5 off a triple from BJ Bogus. If Lipscomb loses tomorrow to CPA they are out of the tournament but they will advance to the regions due to winning 1st in district during the regular season. If Lipscomb wins then they will see the loser of tomorrow night's game on Wednesday at 4:00. If MLK wins tomorrow night then Lipscomb would have to beat CPA tomorrow and then beat FRA on Wednesday to advance to the championship game and play MLK on Thursday or else they could see them next week in the region tournament. Both games were good games today. The intensity of the games was really high.
  4. The tournament starts up tonight. Any predictions?
  5. Monday's games at Shelby Park: CPA vs. FRA @ 4:00 MLK vs. Lipscomb @ 7:00 These should be some good games. Good luck to all in the tournament.
  6. MLK beat East Lit. I believe that makes MLK 4th in the district because of the runs allowed. They have the same record as CPA but the first game was 9-0 (CPA) and the second was 8-4 (MLK). CPA vs. Hume Fogg and MLK vs. Ezell in the play in games.
  7. MLK plays East Lit tomorrow which should be a win for them. If it isn't then MLK is 4th. If they win, that means that it's a tie for 3rd w/ CPA and a coin flip has to be made in order to determine 3rd since the games between MLK and CPA were split 1-1. Correct?
  8. First off this didn't change the course of the game and was not argued. It was MLK vs. Pearl Cohn with a final score of 17-1 (MLK). The umpires disagreed on the call but here goes: Bases are loaded and it's a pop up to third base with 2 outs. The third baseman bobbles the ball in fair territory in the outfield. The runner on third scores and the runner on second is out due to the force from the third baseman getting to the bag with the ball before the runner does. The inning is over. The field umpire claimed that the run counted and the home plate umpire didn't agree because of the obvious force. The field umpire eventually conceded the run wouldn't count but he still made the argument that because of the error, the runner on third was given more time than the original play should have had and therefore scored. The run wasn't argued because of the obvious score difference. I lean towards the run not counting because of the force but the umpire made an interesting point about the play being extended that I had to question. Is this a no brainer or does he have a point?
  9. I believe it's going to come down to MLK and CPA battling for 3rd. MLK should finish out the season losing both games to Lipscomb and FRA and splitting with CPA. They beat Pearl Cohn yesterday 24-2 and faces them again on Friday. I'm not counting chickens before they hatch but it seems as if the next challenge from the district will be East Lit who I believe beat Hume-Fogg yesterday (8-6?). If Lipscomb beats CPA again then CPA and MLK should have the same record. Then I believe it's a coin flip since they split with each other. Ezell should take 5th, East Lit 6th, Hume Fogg 7th, and PC 8th. That right? What does that mean for play in games? Lipscomb vs. PC FRA vs. Hume Fogg and then either CPA/MLK vs. East Lit CPA/MLK vs. Ezell Harding Any arguments?
  10. MLK is 6-5 with Pearl Cohn this afternoon and Friday and then East Lit on the 29th.
  11. Scores yesterday? What's the district standing now?
  12. MLK beat Ezell last night 10-3. They are 9-7 overall and 4-4 in the district. Have Lipscomb and FRA faced one another yet?
  13. Lipscomb is beatable. I believe the district tournament will be interesting this year. I think all the smack talkers have graduate. There's obviously not as much of it this year. Who are the best pitchers in the district? Who have you seen?
  14. Last year there was a lot of smack talk between the 9AA schools. Where is it this year? Who has the most potential to win the district tournament? Let's get something started...
  15. Don't count out MLK. They only lost one senior last year and it wasn't much of a loss. All of the key players are returning and the pitching staff should look good with 8 pitchers returning, not to mention any additions to the team. They may surprise some people this year.
