  1. Eurosport has the score as a 3-3 tie. Does anyone have details of the game?
  2. Sorry G, I was distracted by my camera and hungry soccer players. It won't happen again.
  3. This is one of the things that make high school sports so great - winning a close game against a nearby rival. We've all been part of games like that either as a player, fan or parent. Good stuff. Congrats to CD.

    Scrimmages

CAK will play at Bearden in the Bearden Invitational, 7:00 Wednesday.
  5. One item that's rarely considered in the decision on whether to be DI or DII for a private school has to do with budget and time. How possible or even reasonable would it be to have a student athlete travel from Knoxville to Nashville or Chattanooga to play a district or region game. Because of the lack of DII teams in East TN, you would force students to travel 90+ minutes to play a league game on a week night...makes no sense. These are still high school students that are supposed to be getting an education. Travel costs would go through the roof which simply takes money away from the overall athletic program at a school. Whatever the choice, I can guarantee you that the decision is not made lightly by the people responsible for the well-being of the school. OK G...I'll stop there! My prediction is CAK 2 - HF 0
  6. I didn't mean to imply in the same season, but I know of several instances where the club coach discouraged playing high school at all! From what I've been told, they don't like having to "un-teach" things taught by the HS coach. My point was that I think both have their place.
  7. Of everything posted here, I think I identify more with these words than any. My daughter also played last Saturday in Chattanooga and later told me that this season has been the most fun of her entire soccer career. Why? Because there are Bearden Bulldogs, Farragut Admirals, CCS Chargers, Notre Dame Irish and CAK Warriors. It was special to her to play for her school - with friends and in front of friends. She's with these kids everyday and has been since she was 6 years old. Club is great for building skill and learning different styles of play. But once a club tournament is over, who really remembers who won or lost? I can guarantee that every student at Bearden and CAK this year will remember who the State Champions were in 2006. For our family, there probably would have been no reason to play club if not for high school. True, my daughters probably won't play at the next level so maybe our perspective is somewhat narrow. But I bet a lot of club player parents feel the same. We enjoy both seasons as each has had both blessings and heartbreaks. Isn't that what sports are about - learning to work to be your best and to deal rightly with the outcome? It's a pity some (club coaches in particular) want to press the kids into choosing between the two.
  8. Nice post chasanooga! You captured the atmosphere on Saturday well - the GPS facility was fantastic and the proximity to the River and downtown area made the venue very special for the finals! Congrats to the Lady Warriors and the Lady Bulldogs for bringing the 2006 Championships to Knoxville!
  9. Coniglio, I had to pick CAK...So, BigG can't catch me! Congrats on 4th in the state, that's strong - I'm assuming that was in cross country?

    CAK vs. USJ

Old Timer, I really think the young ladies from USJ came out very focused and outhustled CAK for about the first 20 minutes. They beat CAK to the ball early and even had a good look that hit the cross bar. They really were playing well. After the first CAK goal, it seemed that CAK picked its game up and began to pressure the USJ defense better from that point, especially in the second half. The USJ keeper played very well and had some big stops. Good game by both teams. USJ certainly has a quality team. Hope to see them again next year.
  11. Coniglio...saw you at the game talking to BigG...hope he was nice (difficult for him I know). Hey BigG...I just went back and looked at my picks...I've got USJ v. CAK in final - wasn't that also your pick? Thus................you can't beat me, can you? I can taste that Sam 'N' Andy's Vol Special right now!
  12. Having been the President of one of those private schools, I can tell you that you have no idea what you're talking about. There is a proper place for this discussion and it is not on the soccer board. It is always interesting to me that people don't complain when the public beats the private in football or basketball, they're glad to have us there!
  13. BigG, I'd really be smokin' if I'd picked JCS over Madison! How'd I miss that? Hope you like Sam & Andy'!
  14. Glad to hear that the Big Boss Lady let you off... By the way, I can't help it if you went to some small / sheltered school to the northeast and were deprived of fine sports dining experiences...Sam & Andy's is a true landmark of K'town (at least it was when it was on campus)!
  15. Hey BigG! I guess it's official that you have no chance of winning now, right? Is that why your trusty assistant hasn't posted the new scores yet? You can't handle the truth! Or maybe you just forget to pay him! You should have copied me!
  16. According to the Chattanoogan, Spring Hill beat Fairview 1-0.
  17. Hey BigG! Can we do this like NASCAR and award extra points for leading at the halfway point?
  18. BigG...tryin' to get ahead to be able to say "I told you so"? My picks: Sectionals FRA Notre Dame Madison CAK USJ Spring Hill Sweetwater Catholic Winners in Quarters ND CAK USJ Sweetwater Winners in Semis CAK USJ Champion CAK (ditto to BigG-tough path though) Total number of goals 24
  19. Actually, the District final was 2-0. The Regional final was 5-1. Just my opinion, but I think Catholic definitely improved during the year, partly with getting players healthy (midfield from what I was told and what I observed) that were out early and also the experience of a season with good coaching. They had a great attack at times against CAK and even though the number of shots they got off was not that high, each was a real threat. Catholic has two very good offensive players in Anna Hickey and Gretchen Sutch (sorry if I butchered the spelling). They are both fast, they can press a defense and create shots. Catholic played full out for 80 minutes.
  20. BigG...I'm game, but I'm more of a Sam & Andy's kind of guy. Flemings is overrated. I've seen it and it has a WEAK schedule of wine and is a little DIRTY at times, particularly late and in the back...and they never really get called on it! They must have an in with the health inspector (just kidding!!!). Sorry, but I couldn't resist
  21. I think I have 12 points as of now...picked the Sweetwater "upset" of CCS. Sweetwater is apparently playing well right now.

    CAK

From the previous posts, I think you are a Sweetwater fan or player. I was at the CAK v. Sweetwater game. CAK possessed the ball 60-70% of the game and missed about 7 open looks in the first 15 minutes which would have made the outcome very different. Sweetwater made a great move late to bring a strong/skilled player forward from defense to work against CAK's young defense and scored a late goal (in stoppage time as I remember) to tie the game - a great coaching move. But, if Sweetwater is so much better, why did they not dominate CAK in that game? They were fortunate to get a tie. Sweetwater is obviously playing well now, but jealousy is unbecoming. I've seen CAK play 18 games this year and I can say without question that the dirty play you describe hasn't happened. From your comment, you must also think that in addition to having a direct line to the News Sentinel, CAK has an in with the referees as well. Both sad and pathetic! For the record, the weakest team in CAK's district beat the weakest team in Sweetwater's district by a 7-0 score! Good luck to Sweetwater and ND as they advance in the tournament.
