  1. OC has to win out in region play....@ Dyersburg and @ Ripley...It won't be easy....

    How's it going in Memphis??

Gotta win out? Sounds difficult, but that's what great stories are made of...

Memphis is going pretty good. the football down here could use some work, but other than that, it's going good.

  2. coach d;

If you really want to be a coach, then follow your dream. When I was in high school, I wanted to be a teacher and coach. A few of my teachers told me that I could do better and discouraged me. My coaches encouraged me to follow my dream. I started college and was a business major for 2 days before I switched to education.

After 24 years of teaching and coaching, I have had many friends who work in the business world come up to me and say that they would love to be on the sidelines coaching on Friday Night and if they could do it all again, they would have gone into education. (I have yet to tell one of them that I would love to have been in last week's audit with them and if I had it to do over, I would get an accounting major-not that there is anything wrong with that.)

I made up my mind long ago to never discourage a student who wanted to teach. About 10 minutes ago, a former student walked into my classroom wearing a shirt and tie. He was on campus to observe another teacher because he is now at MTSU as an education major. I never would have guessed he would teach, but more power to him.

You won't get rich teaching, but the fringe benefits can be "eternal". Good luck!

Tackle, thanks for your encouragement and advice. I believe that I have decided 100% that I'm going to be a coach. I know the field is tough and there are many insecurties, but I'm positive that it will be worth it. A coach of mine my senior year by the name of John Smith (I'm not making up a generic name. That was really his name) sat me down and said that after watching me in practice and with our football program, that I really had a knack for coaching and leading and that he would help me in any way that he could. If not for his support and encouragement, I probably would have never considered it like I did. That just goes to show that you never know how much one conversation can change a teenager's life. Really think about how much you influence people. :thumb:

  3. IF YOU ARE WANTING TO CONTINUE PLAYING THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT KEEP TRYING OUT.I HAVE BEEN OUT ALMOST 10 YEARS IF YOU HAVE A LOVE FOR THE GAME IT WILL NEVER GO AWAY EVERY TIME I GO TO A GAME IT KILLS ME THAT I CANT PUT THE PADS ON MYSELF AGAIN.YOU BETTER DO IT NOW BECAUSE YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS.ONCE IT IS OVER IT IS OVER.THEN YOU WILL BE STANDING ON THE SIDELINE SCREAMING OR ON THE FENCE WATCHING :thumb: GOOD LUCK

    Thanks <_<

  4. I GRADUATED IN 81 AND THE PASSION FOR THE GAME IS STILL THERE LIKE IT PLAYING WAS YESTERDAY. I READ ON HERE SOMEONE WAS GOING INTO LAW AND CHANGED, WELL IF COACHING IS WHAT U WANT TO DO GO FOR IT BUT REMEMBER 15- 18 YEAR OLD KIDS HAVE A LOT OF CONTROL ON YOUR JOB AS A COACH. :thumb:

I DONT THINK THE DESIRE TO PUT THEM PADS ON EVER LEAVES THATS WHY HERE WHERE I COME FROM MOST YEARS WE HAVE THIS GAME CASLLED A LARD BOWL, WE USE THE HIUGH SCHOOLS PADS AND PLAY A REAL GAME OFFIALS AND ALL ITS AWSOME BUT MAN FOR THE NEXT WEEK THE BODY SURE IS SORE. :thumb:

I appreciate the concern, but I've already weighed the goods and the bads. The good greatly outweighs the bad.

As far as you Lard Bowl, that is a great idea. I would personally love to dress out and go toe to toe with all of the alumni.

Another funny thing is that I am planning on trying out at every walk on even if they tell me to stop coming. I just want the chance to dress out and play some football.

  5. Same here. It's been 6 years for me, but I miss it, too. That's part of the reason I got into officiating...I just love those Friday nights.

Well, I was planning on being a lawyer. My major was political science, but football season came around....My new major is education. Gonna be a coach. woo!!!! Friday nights are gonna be a little different, but they're still Friday nights.

  6. This is my first year out of high school, and I often find myself repeatedly talking about past game experiences, and I would like all of the former players to let me know if this ever goes away or not. What do I have to look forward to in the future?

Feel free to share stories of your glory days, too. Just have fun with this topic. Go Crazy.

  7. Haywood is one thing. Athletic. They play sloppy and depend on their pure athleticism to win games. In any other division, this would be plenty, but with the coaching, the athleticism of every other team in the region, and the discipline of all the teams in Region 7, it's just not enough.

I don't think that the Rebs have forgotten last season at all. Haywood was probably the most disrespectful team that we encountered last year. Trash talking and cheap shots were aplenty. There's another added incentive to win.

It's no secret that Dishon Robinson took control of last year's game. The offense should have it a little bit easier this year now that he's gone.

It should be a good game with the playoff picture hanging above it. Good luck to the rebels. I have absolutely no respect for Haywood, so for them, I wish nothing. :thumb:

  8. It was a great game. There were a couple of plays for central, that, if made, would have changed the outcome of the game. When playing against a team that is as athletic as Covington, you have to play mistake free football.

Kudos to Covington's play calling. That quarterback sneak was the last thing we were expecting, and it did the job. Number 12 has some wheels on him.

Central needs to keep their heads up. It was a very hard fought game. Time to shake it off and get ready for another big region game against Haywood Co. Good luck to both teams. I'm honestly hoping for a rematch come November.

  9. Coach Bowling's son is having a fine season...He's a good kid too...We've seen him once up close and will see him again next Thursday....Lil # 1 is in the top 5 in almost every category in the county...... :thumb:

Well, congratulations. Good luck to them in the rebel bowl. Should be a great game. Tonight's game should be a good one. Can't wait to watch big 74 making them big blocks.

  10. He's got a QB son playing on the undefeated Generals' team...I hope he does to....

How is Coach Bowling's son doing this year. I know you've seen him play at least once, maybe more. Also, if you have any stats for your youngest, I'd like to see those, too. I'm a friend of 74's if you were wondering.
