  1. You are not restricted from the super32. Tennessee has a multitude of kids wrestle in it every year. You can not however wrestle in the Dixie Nationals because the Tssaa season has already started. You are not permitted to wrestle in individual tournaments during the Tssaa high school season .

  2. Alright I'm gonna be the first to throw this one out there. Why are Bradley and father ryan in the same pool seems a little dumb to me. Just my opinion.

Looks like they are trying to separate teams that wrestle each other during the year. It also separates teams like Ryan and Baylor in the semis and Cleveland vs Bradley . It's about as distributed as you can get it . Ryan and Cleveland wrestled tonight , Bradley vs Baylor last night. McCallie will wrestle Baylor and Father Ryan multiple times , Soddy , Cleveland , Bradley and the Georgia teams will all wrestle each other during the year as well. Plus if you go on any seeding criteria from last years duals the winners are all separated. Ryan looks to be the team to beat so far this year with that performance tonight.

  3. I'm not 100% positive who will be missing . I think there are a couple that can't make weight until after Christmas and maybe and injury or 2. I'm not sure if Parker is wrestling or not. This is all second hand info so don't hold me to it. My prediction is 36-31, Not saying who the winner is, lol. That is with Parker wrestling.

  4. I was told Baylor is not at full strength and probably won't be until after Christmas. Should be interesting. Last years match was the first match for a lot of Baylors wrestlers coming from Football .

  5. not sayin Baylor want play that game outside of D2 occasionally and yes the D2 schedule is rugged for sure; but that Howard, Brainerd, Tyner thing with you guys not allowing the game to be rotated back to their home fields is questionable....why you recon the Baylor powers that be want go play those game at their place

    Booger just sayin

You really have no clue what you are talking about. First off  the DII schedule is brutal, you cant fathom the talent level of Ensworth, Mba, Brentwood, Mus, Father Ryan, Christian Brothers ect.... Those players are going on to play on Saturdays in the sec and at  Miami, Florida State, Stanford and many are in the Nfl. In addition to those teams they have also played Murfreesboro Oakland, Columbia right after their state championships , Knox Catholic in their state championship years, ectt. They cant  play all brutal games every week. Compare their schedule last year versus Notre Dames. I can assure you they would love to play the Notre Dames, Signal mountains East Hamiltons and not have to travel but the fact is not many teams will play them. Brainerd and Howard want to play Baylor because it helps fund their season, they don't want the game at home, they want it at Baylor to raise funds for their programs.

Back to predictions.. should be a good game, I do feel Baylor has some question marks this year and only time will tell how the new guys progress. They lost a lot of linemen and have a new qb in addition to several starters out already with injuries.  Im sure Rhea will try to pound the ball and test Baylors line but Baylors linebacking core is pretty solid so I would expect some good old fashioned smash mouth football,

  6. I think it's because there are so many tournaments now. Just in the last few weeks you have had Virginia Beach, Flo, Heartland duals , Aau middle school, freshman & sophmore duals, Aau Elementary Duals, USA Scholastic Duals , and others. As people add more and more tournaments the quality and quantity of participants will continue to go down.

  7. A better question would be. How many Youth coaches spend less then $1000.00 year out of their own pocket to travel, expenses, and to subsidize for the kids that can't pay. Most the coaches I know in the AAU not only spent countless hours but countless financial resources..... except for the director and a hand-full of others that get a stipend and expenses paid by AAU. Of course those are the same one's that decided that Knoxville should have two Regions while Chattanooga and Nashville only have one.

I wonder if anyone else noticed the director asleep in a hammock in the $5000 AAU trailer parked in the end zone while our champs stood on a 2 x2 sand bag as the medalist sat on the floor in their awards ceremony.

I thought I clarified the region comments earlier. Most people involved understand how and why the state was divided the way it is. It was proposed and voted on at the open state meetings multiple times. You are more than welcome to come and voice your opinion or be a part of the open meetings. Unfortunately we haven't had 1 single non board member show up in three years. Let me start off by saying Knoxville doesn't have two regions anymore than Nashville has two regions. The regions are balanced to try and ensure each area has as close to an equal number of participants as possible. This is readdressed every few years and lines are redrawn as we gain and lose teams from each area. Is there some reason you want Nashville and Chattanooga to have 2 regions? I'm glad we only have 1 in Chattanooga as I don't see any advantage of having 2. If you consider Bristol , kingsport, Knoxville, Pigeon Forge, and every town east of Chattanooga all being in Knoxville then I guess that's where the confusion lies. Nashville is actually split with some teams being in region 5 with west Tennessee.

As far as people being paid a stipend this is as far from the truth as you can possibly get. Where are you getting this information because they do not get anything. If someone was asleep on Sunday it's probably because they were exhausted from all night emails, calls, texts in the week leading up to the tournament and being up all night preparing for a tournament with 65 brackets and weight classes. Here we are days after the state tournament and we are still answering emails and calls from parents. I can't even Begin to describe the time and energy put into our sport by these people . As far as the Aau trailers are concerned. One was donated to us and another Aau parent did the decals. The other trailer is personally owned by Kevin Wright. The trailers are needed to haul the computers, monitors, stands and clocks among other things. We would love for you to be a part of our meetings and share your ideas or go through your region director to offer any suggestions. Hopefully I've cleared up the things you were mistaken on. If not you can reach any board member through the state website for further clarification.

  8. Gotcha... so let's say they had those 4 kids. Let's assume they split 2 -2....probalby wouldn't happen since Chatt didn't even have a quality kid at those classes....1, 2. 3 . 4 to compete...but just for arguments sake, let's say they split. Nashville still wins by 40 points. That's allot.

the big question is though, should one of the knoxvile regions combine with chatt region so that they can be more competitive.

I'm not trying to divide the state here. It just seems silly that Chatt and knoxville have 3 of the 5 regions and can't compete with Nash and Memphis. I was there and I really felt sorry for Chatt and Knox kids, they were so under competitive that it was not good for the sport. look at the scores. Something needs to change. The kids deserve more.

PS: exactly 50% of the state champs came from middle tennessee. one of 5 regions

The regions are spilt to even out the numbers. You have East Tn, northern Tn, South , middle and west . Some of the areas are split slightly to make the regions as even as possible. Some of the teams on the west side of Nashville are in the west region with Memphis and some of the teams outside Knoxville area are with the other region . As far as Nashville dominating the middle school duals the last few years they have done so. There are multiple reasons for this. 1) Chattanoogas public school kids could not compete this year due to their league rules. Contrary to some people's posts who know nothing about the league in Chattanooga none of the kids wrestling at the Aau state were on their school teams. Those teams are Soddy, Hixson, East Hamilton, Ooltewah, Red Bank, Signal Mtn, Hunter Middle & Brown Middle ( central and Ooltewah feeders) , Tyner , East Ridge and numerous others. I can assure you there would be quite a few good kids that would help the Chattanooga Ms duals teams . Chattanooga has won every single dual meet state in the 5th grade and below and has never lost a single match in any of those tournaments. Until this year Nobody has gotten within 25 points of them and usually it was 40+ point victories. These same teams are also some of , if not the most successful high school programs every year. So ... If they win at the youth level by huge margins and the same teams win at the high school level it would be quite a stretch to think they suddenly forget how to wrestle between the 6-8th grades. Also they usually don't have Baylor middle school kids because the school goes on a mandatory trip every year and the kids are also required to play a sport every season so they are all in baseball, lacrosse or track this late in the year. McCallies kids are usually in the same boat.

    2) Nashville and Memphis are getting better each year and doing a great job with their club teams. This success is parlaying over to their high schools and evening out the playing field a little bit . Nashville will continue to catch up and pass the Chattanooga public schools until the middle school league in Chattanooga changes it's policy. Cleveland, Bradley, ocoee, Baylor and McCallie will still be good though because they aren't hampered by those restrictions.

  9. Man ... What a warrior! Hate it for him! I was so impressed with his toughness this entire tournament fighting through obvious pain.

Sorry guys, my phone died at the tournament.

He will get it checked out when he gets back, they gave him some crutches and put it in a brace. Hopefully it's just a sprain.

All the Tennessee kids battled tough. Chalifoux was really banged up with a shoulder and ribs and pushed through it to place. Elkins placed at 113 and wrestled tough. Stacey was a match away from placing I think. Patton had 3 wins I think all by pin. King lost some extremely close matches. I don't know how many overtime and 1 score matches Parker and Murphy pulled out but it seemed like everyone was a nail biter and they kept their composure and found ways to win.

  10. Mike , trying to watch matches on flo. It's hard to keep up with mat assignments. Is Blake hurt, saw he took injury time out in both his matches?

    Kings match was awesome!!

He hurt his shoulder about 30 seconds into his first match. It's been ongoing for the last 2 seasons.

Elkin 120, King . Blake, Parker all lost tough ones in the quarters. Seagraves and Murphy advanced to semis . I'll double check that to be sure though.

  11. 2nd rd winners brackets

Eli king with a nice come from behind win in rd 2. Down 5-2 going into the third he hit a nice takedown and got three backs for a 7-5 win over the 6th seed.

Murphy wins by pin against Md opponent.

Patton loses by tech to to tough number 1 seed from Blair.

Chalifoux wins over 10 seed 14-6

Sutherland wins 6-1 over 11 seed from Tx

    Parker majors 10 seed 16-4

Elkins big win at 113 over 5 seed from Dc 10-0

Seagraves wins over 12 seed from Va 11-2

Stacey loses tough battle against 6 seed from Wyoming Seminary 5-3

  12. Thx anotherback and thank you to all the parents who braved the weather. We had kids from Greeneville, Pigeon Forge, Morristown, Mt Juliet, Clarksville, Georgia and several other places. I was worried it would be a disaster with all the changes we had to make but it turned out great. Thanks to all who made it happen.

  13. Youth coach,

Your insights are appreciated. We've all seen the inconsistencies through the years with refs down in Georgia, at least when it involves one of ours.

I've spoken with Blake recently and found him to be a no excuses kind of guy. He humbly told me in so many ways that he would like to have the talent Seagraves has, and how impressed he was with the way he handled the Bullard brother. I asked him about his bouts and he, Blake, was happy he could keep it close,,, again no excuses. Class Act!

Thx, Soms.. I didn't realize you two had met. Our great sport has produced a fine crop of young men who represent our state well I think. Nothing in life is quite as humbling as wrestling.

  15. Youthcoach,

The ref's a cheater and/or an idiot? Football just ended? An injury to his arm? I have absolutely no horse in this race, but Wow! You are the epitome of the biased fan/family member or whatever. Just pitiful that you have an excuse ready for every Loss. I can only assume that a competitor like Blake will be embarrassed if he reads this. Do you have the same list of excuses for every guy that Blake has whipped through his career? I wonder if all of them had an injury or a horrible ref to blame also.

I shouldn't have even replied . That is exactly why I don't make picks or predictions. Message boards can easily be taken out of context. Western wrestler made a statement I felt was in a hostile manner ( probably taken wrongly by me) bringing up two matches in the past. So I brought up all their matches and gave details instead of just picking two and saying he was pinned. I clearly stated you take the wins with the losses and that's part of it. There are extenuating circumstances at times but if the wrestler chooses to wrestle then he has to accept the outcome. I never said nor am I saying now he's better than the Bullards or anyone else being discussed for that matter. He nor I have ever shied away from anything as anyone who knows either of us would attest to. Ill leave you to argue with Cleveland enemies now and stay out of topics like these. It's much more fun just watching.
  16. Most of the region tournaments this weekend are canceled due to weather. We are still holding ours in Chattanooga this Saturday.
