  2. About fifteen years ago, I was in Lebanon attending a Friendship Christian game against Trousdale County. I was sitting next to a  gentleman and his wife. I told him I was from Maryville and loved high school football. The game was great, but the conversation was even better.  He was a delightfully humble Christian gentleman. Knowledgeable about football and thoroughly enjoyable to talk too.  Never once did he bring up his football pedigree!  I was sitting next to greatness and had no idea who he was.  I just knew he was one of nicest, family loving (he was there for his grandchildren) man I had met.  It was only much later that I learned he was Ted Wilson.  He definitely should have his name on something, yet I got the impression that it is not something he cares about.  I got the feeling, from our conversation, that Faith, Family, Friends and then Football was his list of priorities.

  3. As a Rebel parent (although I was a Alcoa fan, the first time I saw Alcoa play in Nashville about 1979), I understand the depth issue that frustrates Alcoa.  I know plenty of times Alcoa has had several top athletes, that played on both sides of the ball.  This is a legitimate complaint (sometimes over used after a loss to Maryville). Yet, I also recognize that Maryville could have players play both ways, which could have given them an advantage (making the defense or offense better). That’s the coach’s choice, agree or disagree, it does make a difference in this game.

I am just so thankful the administration and coaches agree to play this game every year.  I just love this rivalry!  I feel greatly blessed to live her in Maryville and enjoy not just the game, but the commitment by both schools to an absolute “Standard of Excellence “ in high school football.

What I would like to see, is a game that required players to play offense and defense. Have a few players extra just in case someone gets hurt. No special teams players. A true 11 on 11, old fashioned neighborhood gridiron gut check. Only then would we know, who has “the best” team!

It's a long time until game day. I take nothing as being a sure thing during this messed up year.If the game is played,I'll give a slight edge to DB playing one of their smartest games in the last six decades.

I like DB in this one.  You have to shut down #20.  He is all over the field.  Batman, you might enjoy watching the Maryville vs. Farragut game on you tube.  The Rebs did a pretty good job of covering him.  A few interceptions and some pass interference calls helped too.

Bradley Central will stream the game on the Bear Network youtube channel.  It's the same link where the Damon Floyd show is aired.

Thanks, love that news. I YouTubed the Maryville vs. Farragut game. Excellent play by play broadcaster and I love to watch a Rebels game from the visitors prospective.

  6. Rankin saying, “if it was just eleven on eleven, they could match up better.”  I guess that is true, if it is a close low scoring game with long drives.  I thought Alcoa had plenty of players so they don’t “have” to go both ways.

For example last year Maryville could have had Hodge and Davis play both sides of the ball.  I understand why they didn’t but, that is a coaches choice. I don’t buy the contention that Alcoa does not have the depth to have players on just offense or defense.
