  1. Here some tornadoes had to call 911 from the roof. What's up with that! Here someone  was able to plant a Maryville flag on the roof and get down ok. But some Naders that sought to correct the invasion of their sacred ground knocked the ladder off and couldn't get down, thus the call to 911.

  2. It's literally like a machine. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A Special Defense and a Real special (meaning roadrunner fast) skill player or two in order to beat them. #23 from Ravenwood, Mark Dodson for us and Julian Burton for White Station... If Oakland doesn't have an EXPLOSIVE Athlete like these three gentlemen I highly doubt they win.

The Senator nailed it! He knows football and he knows the Rebs! I always assume The Haven is the best until someone beats them. Even when they have lost, which is not often, I still feel they are the best! When Maryville beat them a few years back, now that was a great defense! I told GQ, "I can't believe we won that game." FACT: Best team does not always win.

  3.

Your right but its our job as press to look at the current and the possibilities and that all the article speaks to is comparing the numbers and the creating a thought process. Looking back at the past only limits the thought process. Have some imagination and compare. This may be the year that your O pulls one out.[/quote

You know I was thinking the Pope might become a Southern Baptist. Yet, based on the past that would be crazy! But, why let the past get in the way, we need to consider the possibility.

  4. You know, I don't remember Cobb getting any National Attention, he just worked his tail off.  Why can't you have both? Go to a team loaded with D-1 talent and win championships (Whitehaven, Brentwood Academy , etc.).

Around here, it is more fun to watch a team not loaded with D-1 talent (Maryville) beat teams loaded with D-1 talent (Whitehaven, Catholic, Alcoa, Oakland, etc.).  That's one of the reasons I love following Maryville, perfect combination of a standard of Excellence, Effort and Execution.  People keep doubting and we keep proving them wrong!

Great pleasure to see a kid playing D-1 or Pro-ball and we say, "yea, we played against him and beat 'em!" Not a bad legacy and a great group of class kids and coaches to call your brothers in battle on the gridiron.  We have beaten the best D-1 talent in the State, now that's fun!

  5. GQ always has a master plan in mind.  If he is playing more freshman than usual, there is a good reason. Frankly, the reason doesn't matter.  He is such a genius at utilizing his talent, if I were an opposing coach I would be scared too death! We have all seen him use talent, not always to the special skills of the player, but to the benefit of the team!  Alcoa and Fulton games have nothing to do with winning a another Gold ball.  If he can get these young players and the team plugged in by November, that's all that matters, and nobody does it better!

  6. Raptors are quick and tough all the way around. They have a coach that did to GQ what no coach has done (28 points in the 1st Qt.). Some will say," he just schemed well early but did not adjust." If that is true, which it may be, what do you think he has been doing the last eleven months? Rebels better be ready for anything and everything! Who thought Whitehaven would win last week? I did. That win was impressive!

The Championship game may have been played last week.

  7. w8vser.jpgI hate to tell all the haters this but if Maryville started going out of state playing other teams that will increase the chances of bringing in more big time players wanting to move here from other areas of the country. When you create national attention on TV you can bet in today's world people would pack up and move to have their All American kid on a team that wins out every year. Then after that monster is created what would the haters want next. They hate it because five or six kids crossed the county line. What would their poor world be like if kids started crossing the state line to get here. Something for all you haters to chew on this morning.

Exactly what would happen.  If money and sponsorships (espn, nike, under armour, ect  get involved. They will form some regional division with all the super teams players transferring to those schools.  Plenty of money for TV and schools. Which ruins local hometown school football and rivalries.

At least our AD's have the sense to stay out of the money trap (JUST PRIDE AND MONEY)  We know who we are and don't have too prove it to any National interests. Who cares if we could beat Hoover, it proves nothing on our road to a State title (whatever class.).

If people are tired of our dominance. then get better, work harder than Maryville and beat us on the field.  With the new format (Super 32) most teams have the means and talent to complete with us.  Stop whining and start working right now to do it.   Quit asking us to play some other team you thing is better.  The remaining teams in the 6A play-offs should have no trouble competing with Maryville (just do-it and stop whining about!)

Maryville could loose to any of the remaining teams. Seems like the TSSAA got it right. in the end the best teams are left standing.  To the winner goes the Gold ball!  Everybody has got an even chance to win.  If Maryville loses they will lose with dignity recognizing, on that night, the team that won played them better!

  8. It is difficult to evaluate Maryville QB's because of the system. Great Maryville QB's have not always translated into a great college QB. I guess they really don't have too. Most QBs in High school are just great athletes (Randall Cobb). I think of a Chad Pennington. If my memory serves me well, I don't know if anybody in the SEC offered him a scholarship. I am not sure if Malone at Fulton will be offered as a QB. Just look at Juan Jennings, great athlete and great high school QB, but he's on the field as a wide receiver. Robinette was potentially a next level (college, maybe professional) QB because of his size. But a Nick Meyers was plugged into the Maryville system and they did not miss a beat. Basically, in High School, a great QB is an athlete who puts his team in a position to win games. My guess, right now, in East Tennessee, SC's QB is the one being looked at by Colleges as a QB only.

  9. Finally, got to watch a replay of the game last night (thanks to the Great American Rivalry Series-understand they will carry it the next two years at least). I am anxious to see how far Alcoa goes. Jalen Myers can be something special. Alcoa got it moving when they turned him lose on the edge. Based on what I saw of Alcoa's front seven, I am impressed that the Rebels put 20 points on them.

Brock is a beast! Clutch throw and catch on the slant late in the 4th to keep the drive going. I know the Rebs only came away with 3 points, but they ran 6 minutes off the clock. Classic Quarles!

On the holding call. He definitely had a handful of jersey but the Rebs motor was flying. If he hadn't been "slightly" held I am convinced he would have sacked or at least flushed Myers out of the pocket. Hate to see such a great game end that way, but it is what it is.

  10. Very impressed with Alcoa's front seven on D.

If anyone wants to beat Maryville they need to study this game.

Alcoa definitely opened it up.  Gutsy call on the fake punt.

Glad the clock finally ran out in the second half.  If Alcoa had a little more time, I have no doubts they would have won.  Very impressive second half.

Rebels played well enough to hang on for the win-great game.

Good luck to Alcoa as they pursue another Gold Ball
