  1. I can't say anything about the LJ watching the players. I can tell you that due to a new rule this year, the chain is supposed to be backed of the line. There is a set distance, but you have to be flexiable on the amount based on the side line room. All officials are supposed to be backing the chains off after it is clipped. I do not like the new rule, but it is a rule. You will see it enforced even more next year.
  2. " I do hope the reffs aren't as bad as the ones we had this past Friday night. That was some of the worst play calling. If our team is allowed to PLAY without a stupid yellow hankie dropping every play we have a GREAT chance at winning this game. I do fear the officals will cheat us out of this one if they can." Is this a early attempt to make excuses? Just wondering why even bring this into the topic this early in the week. Before you start, I am not a cheering fan of either team. Infact could not even tell you how to get to either school. Personally I think it will be a very good game. From what I have read both teams are justified in being at this stage in the game. Just hope for a well played ball game
  3. Think about how you have worded this statement? With the wording, it is roughing the kicker. Ok he is trying to punt, you hit him prior to getting to the ball. Now you get the ball first, then hit the punter all bets off.
  4. It sure seems like you should have had the right to refuse the penality. One thing our group has really stressed this past year and last was give the captians their choices. Do not just assume what they will do. Allow them to chose the destiny. However, make sure you give them all of the choices they have available. Arrogance has no place on field. I work as a HL and have to deal with the coaches up close and personal every play. I find that most coaches are fine with most every call if you just explain to them what you saw and why you called. Always have a number of the person who commited the foul. Case in point, if you see a hold and did not get a number, you get the ole you can see the hold but not number speech.
  5. The answer to that question is yes, the first test you must pass is open book. This gets you in door. Then you must make the state meeting(which in in July) and then attend no less than six locals. After that you will work the jamborees and several scrimages for the love of the game. Then you get to work many middle school games, move up to the ECO. After about three maybe two years you go on the field on Friday nites. You will have a state supervisor there to watch the game, he will usually critic you at half and after game. Now, if you have the yearning to work play off games, you must take and pass with no less than 80, a closed book test. Those games are great, because you usually have more than supervisor there. So you see there is a little more to it than just buying a shirt and pants. Now there are some bone headed calls or non calls, but far and away ther are more good calls than bad
  6. Here is a link to the story,, <http://www.click2houston.com/news/10144744/detail.html>
  7. Saw this one and thought I would share. Maybe we don't have it all bad here. "Just saw a TV segment about 6 HS football players in Texas who were kicked off the varsity team for donating blood at a school sponsored blood drive. The coach kicked them off the team stating he didn't think they could practice after giving blood. Do ya think the guy's juuuussstt a little power mad? Can someone say, "Law Suit?" I know if it were my kid I'd file one just to show a buffoon like that who he REALLY works for."
