  1. Lets set the record straight for 'mytwocents'!

First, I AM NOT BARR!! There are several facts which need to be addressed. Hopefully this will help you with the FACTS in the matter.

    1. Two Hunters Lane freshman are going thru spring practice at Hillwood. They were out there for 2 1/2 weeks when discovered. Also, a twenty something male, out of school for several years, is also practicing with the team. Both are MAJOR violations of TSSAA and Metro rules!!

    2. When it was discovered, Scott Brunette, metro's athletic director and Alan Johnson, Hillwood's executive principal, meet to discuss things and START an investigation. I understand that TSSAA was notified and the TSSAA was going to wait and see what action was taken BEFORE they got involved. Time was not a factor in this. The TSSAA knew about this 2 weeks before Spring Fling ever started. Barr did not have to 'run off to the TSSAA', they already were informed by Scott Brunette.

    3. Barr's position is technically called "Athletic Business Manager". Every Metro school has one. Also, they have an Athletic Principal who is in charge of the overall athletic program. Many schools let their "Business Manager" run the athletics, mainly because many athletic principals do not have a clue about the athletic programs. Others let the business manager only handle the game operations and such. Barr use to do it all and do it well!!

As for the football player cursing out Link and the other coaches, Barr, as business manager, does not nor did not have the authority to discipline the boy. You talk about not having guts in your other post, any coach in their right mind would have taken care of it then or after the game. You talk about no guts? It is Link's football program and he let it go!! If your 'opinion' that the AD should have done something, that would have been Monte Wilson!! His is technically the AD because he is the Athletic Principal!! Go Figure!!

    4. Barr is also a TSSAA track referee. He has worked many state track meets throughout the years. He, along with several other track referees from Nashville, were watching games involving two metro teams in the state baseball tournament. Hunters Lane was on one field and McGavock was on the other. Hunters Lane's baseball coach is Ronnie Carter's son Jim. When Barr was given his 'firing letter' by Monte Wilson (over 200 miles from home and school), the other track officials and Ronnie Carter were already standing there.

In closing, all I am doing is stating FACTS! Not opinions, just the plain facts!! Correct me if i'm wrong, but none of this would be necessary if Link had not done the things he did this past spring!! Don't overlook the obvious, plain facts here!!

  2. Hilltopper, if i remember the "correct version" of the story, the player who cursed out Link, and the rest of the coaches, was not dismissed from the team by the coaching staff. They ignored it!! It was only until the principal heard what happened and HE told the boy his football days were over! Link did not boot him, the principal did!!

You keep asking everyone "where do you get your information from". Are we a slight bit paranoid about the facts in the matter???? :D

  3. Hilltopper,

    No Bone with Hillwood

    No Bone with Link (personally)

    No newspaper articles (yet).

Probably still being handled by powere that be.

    End of my discussion. :ph34r::)

Go work out for the upcoming season and best wishes

P.S. Have you talked with "your coaches" or Mr. Johnson about any of this? There is where you need to go!!!! Not here!!!!

  4. Hilltopper, the only one ever making up stuff is Coach Link. Especially when he was caught "red handed" on several issues and then lied about it. If you don't believe what is being said, go ask your beloved principal Mr. Johnson or Mr. Scott Brunette, Metro's Athletic Director!

Whatchacallit, could you imagine Gamble, Grammer, Elrod, Mama Johnson, and Barr (if he was not "fired") all together? Would they rename Hillwood "Maplewood West"?

  5. Ok gentlemen, place your bets. Who gets the McGavock job?

    Arcente Broome __________

    Bubba Spears __________

    Other __________

Yes, I understand that there will be several more which will apply that may / may not be deserving. However, lets see what you think!! Who's first to vote?

  6. Shadow, a good question is will the TSSAA handle this one. If Scott Brunette (Metro Athletic Director) handles the situation along with Hillwood's principal well enough, TSSAA could accept the penalty and stay out of the picture. Expecially if the Metro penalty is severe enough. Which could very well be the case here!!

Lilal, apparantly the two in question were freshman this past year. Don't believe there is any connection between the players and the coach which left HL last year.

Satars, integrity is something that is earned until a time comes in which the person does something to lose it. It appears that Link, along with possibly several other coaches, have lost theirs from not only breaking the rules but apparantly lying to cover up the fact. There are many coaches out there with their integrity still intact!

Integrity = HONESTY and playing by the rules!!

  7. Hilltopper, I don't personally have anything against Link. From what I understand, I don't agree with the breaking, bending, or setting aside of rules that has apparantly happened. There has been too much "negative press" out of Hillwood lately and it is turning alot of heads in Metro.

  8. You mean it is against the TSSAA and Metro rules to have players not attending your school participate in spring practice?? What about having someone 4-5 years out of high school practicing in pads with your athletes?? Zone??? What is a zone?? Football coach "screws" up ; fire the athletic director who has held the entire athletic program together for 20 years!! Oops, looks like that already happened :D Surely this is not the case at Linkwood, oops Hillwood???? :D

  9. Hunters Lane ran into two very good teams on Thursday and lost both games to Farragout and Mumford. Again, both very good teams. My hats off to the entire Hunters Lane coaching staff, players, and parents on an outstanding season and trip to the state tournament.

Coach Carter, Coach Brown, and Coach Finch have done a great job this year and hopefully it will carry over to another state run next year.

Great job guys, WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!!

  10. Hunters Lane does have a classy team. It starts at the top with their coaches. Carter, Brown, and Finch have done a great job this year. Don't judge the whole team because one gets on here a little bit "different". Overall, they are a class baseball team. They are excited and who can blame them.

Good Luck Warriors, Have fun in Memphis and bring back the Gold!!

  11. There is a line in the movie Bull Durham when the manager throws the bats into the shower while upset that goes "This is a simple game, you hit the ball, you throw the ball, and you catch the ball". This game will come down to which ever pitchers are on, whoever is hitting well, and who makes the least mental mistakes!

Remember, this game is about 15, 16, 17, & 18 year old kids playing a fun game. You never know what may happen!

  12. Otis, are you saying that a group of kids in Metro Nashville has discipline?? Now you know people are going to think those you have lost your mind but you are totally right on this one!! Coaches Jim Carter, Carmon Brown, and Clint Finch have done an outstanding job this year undoing the wrongs of Hunters Lane's former coach (excuse me person who got a supplement for allowing his wife to put together a line-up each game).

The players finally love the game now and have a hunger to win that wasn't there before. Carter, Brown, and Finch have done a great job.

I'm going out on a limb here, the game is at Hunters Lane, the Warriors are hungry to get to Memphis, and are playing very "inspired" baseball lately. Prediction: Hunters Lane Warriors in a not close game!

Hawkgradgold1, keys to the game: If Rossview don't hit well and/or don't field well, they lose! Simple as that :)

  13. Metro schools offered a big money incentive to anyone with 35+ years teaching experience to retire. For someone in his position it was nice money.

Shadow, you are correct, please forgive me. I forgot that there are never any rumors in Metro. "The philosophy" almost escaped me :(. Bottom line is whoever Mike Tribue wants will get the job.

Just a thought, what is the over/under on someone from Gallatin applying for the job at McGavock?????????

  14. However, if you provide the proper paperwork, completely filled out with the honest information, there should not be any problem! Just make sure that the information you receive from the player and his parent(s) is the correct information.

Remember, the player needs to have a "bonna fide change of address" and the other information on the simple form needs to be completely and honestly filled in!

  15. Ok, who gets the McGavock job now that Armstrong appears to be leaving?? Bubba Spears, Arcente Broome, or could Maurice Fitzgerald be pursuaded to leave Firebird land?? Tribue gets to hire another head football coach

  16. Points to ponder:

First, MTSU does a wonderful job putting on an event such as the girl's and boy's state tournament. While I can't speak for everyone, the vast overall experience of putting on a show of that magnitude has to have alot of people working. You must realize that everyone has an assigned duty. Like it or not, everyone has to do their job. Problems occur when someone, a fan, thinks they are exempt from the rules or all rules apply to everyone else but them. I have seen several fans mouth off at a door person only because they were doing their job and the fans didn't like it. As for the floor personnel, it is simple, if you don't have a pass to be there, you can't go past! That is their job!!

The tournament runs for four days, for about 12 hours a day, each week. That is alot of time and alot of people.

Second, everyone is complaining about the money. This may be hard for some to believe, but it takes alot of money to put this show on!! Expenditures to consider are hotel rooms for the teams (Wednesday teams get Tue night and if they lose Wed night and that is all. Win and you get more nights), travel for teams, hotel for referees plus expenses such as game fees and meals, hotel for people working the tournament outside Murfreesboro, paying workers with TSSAA, trophies, and most importantly, the MTSU people.

I believe MTSU hires all of the gate and ticket people, as well as security, parking attendents, stat crews, maintaince and cleanup crews, scorer's table people, and I'm sure alot more! The MTSU bill is a whopper alone. And before people start going off on that, I understand they don't make a profit at all. Everything is figuered down to the hour and /or game.

Any school can see a financial report of the state tournaments. After all, if you remember correctly, the TSSAA works for the schools and is governed by the schools. The member schools aprove it every year and have ample opportunity to question it at their meetings.

Lastly, personaly, I have never had a negative problem at MTSU. Of course I understand there are rules to follow at an event this big. I have been to the SEC, OVC, NCAA tournaments and their rules are just the same.

Sorry this post is a little long, but hopefull this sheds a little light on things. Anytime you have this many people working, you are bound to have a few bad workers however, overall everyone does an outstanding job.

  17. CoachF and Bigchief are right on the money with their selections!! Just to add a few "Honorable Mentions" to the list: Presley Ramsey of DCA, Nolner of Whites Creek, Troy Allen at Hillsboro, James Winrow of Stratford, and last, but certainly not least is yourselves CoachF and Bigchief (back in "the day")!

All of the coaches mentioned above and in the top 5 are excellent coaches as well as excellent roll models for their athletes to follow!!

  18. Good question Stan!! I noticed the 6AA Region at Chester County started last Thursday night and lasts over 6 nights. I believe their district tournaments started the last Thursday or Friday of the last week in the regular season.

The only rule stated by TSSAA on the dates are the "completion dates" of the tournaments. Maybe it is a money issue with the regions. The more days you play the more money you collect. Or it could be a matter of rest before the sectionals. Not sure but good question

The boy's semi-finals are tonight (Monday) with the girl's finals Tuesday and the boy's finals on Wednesday.

  19. I believe i'm 100% right on this one:

In district tournament play, the referees will call in the districts in which they normally work.

In region tournament play, the referees will go to other regions in which they DO NOT normally officiate. I believe the Nashville referees are going west to work several regions druing regions week and the west tn. referees will be coming toward Nashville. The same holds true for Chattanooga and Knoxville area referees swapping. I understand they get milage as well for the games too!

I believe the TSSAA does what they can to avoid any controversy concerning referees working the "area" in which they live during advanced tournaments!
