  1. Ricker is going to be the QB. Howell has worked at both receiver and wing. He will play CB on D as well. Garrettson looks solid on the O-line as does Nick Free on D. Howell will light it up this year with some memorable plays. Helton looks faster on D(@240 lbs.) than he has in the past.
  2. Nothing new. Just regular fall camp. I have not had a chance to see anything this week but plan to check it out as they go live next week and get to hear that "pop" we love to hear as football fans. I will keep everybody updated or just stop by the track and lean on the fence with me and shoot the breeze.
  3. A B.S. by 21 is a good thing. Work like heck to get to it and yes, you are right. This year will fly by as fast as the last 13 and it will be over in what seems like 2 weeks. Hope to see you around and good luck to you and yours this year. As always, Cane72.
  4. There are from D-1AA. There are no serious looks that I know of from D1 schools yet.
  5. I agree 100%. Those are the keys for us. I think the Oline will be young but very talented. The offseason workouts are going well. Penalba,Christian and Helton made the 1000 lb. club last night.
  6. May be spelled wrong. I think he was #26 for JC last year.
  7. Steele(lb -s) from Jeff co. will be here and should contribute. Ricker is planning to do a camp or 2 but not sure when and where. Helton,Penalba,Bell,Rutherford left to go to the Dean Hood camp @ EKU this morning. Fall scrimmages are Sullivan East and Bearden. I'll post the dates later, I don't have them handy.
  8. I think you may be up-grading the talent. He is good but he ain't that good. Hatcher has done nothing of the sort. What he has done is show a backbone and not do ultimatums. I respect him for that. I can promise you that the boys live in the same home and this will be an issue in the future about where he should go to school. Mark it down. I myself have seen the boys play all their lives and Tee is the better athelete.
  9. The question has to be asked. If the same parent has custody, how can one go to East and one to West?
  10. Yes and yes. Tee did not get many snaps at all due to track but he will be on D this year and a valuable weapon at times(60% I guess) on O. Ricker will be the man and will do a good job. He has natural talent, size and spped. He is a good teammate and plays smart for a soph.
  11. It is not a rule. They don't play fr. on varsity because they are not ready yet. It actually benefits the kid to play freshman ball. At least he gets to play and not spend as much time on the sidelines. East will return enough speed with other guys next year and be oK. The younger Howell is not the only talent they have. I never said he insisted he be a starter just that he wanted him to play varsity. I agree with the coaches on this one, he is not ready for varsity yet.
  12. I really have not heard. I stopped following them when the regions changed. I played against GHS,worked briefly in GV and have never cared much for the place.
  13. I played with the Sr. Howell. I understand that he went to talk to the coach and gave an ultimatum. He did not get the response he hoped for. If he goes to West then oh well. He is a good talent but after seeing him play, I rank him with another player at west that was dominate at the middle school level and has yet to pan out. I will say that he has great potential and I think his dad is making a huge mistake because he may be on the varsity at west but I doubt he will see the field and I KNOW he is not ready for the varsity game. I think his dad may need to let his sons career unfold and not try to force it to. Just my opinion. East will be a very good team this year. On O,we bring back alot of the playmakers from 08' and will probably have a better passing game (short, underneath) than in 08'. On D, we looked good in the spring. Our only glaring weakness was the secondary(all the starters out for track). The staff is counting on my son to carry a load this year and he looked really good in spring and great in the scrimmages. As far as the talk about West being down and us against South, Howell Sr. always liked to talk when he played and that has not changed. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  14. I heard his dad more or less demanded that he play varsity as a freshman and did not get the answer he wanted.
  15. Freshman #'s should be good this year. They report later than varsity. The team reports back to the field july 22nd I think but have team workouts all summer and Howell,Helton and some others do the hills on their own.
  16. Our D should be pretty solid this year and it appears we have a MLB that will rattle somebody this year(#40). A little bias here but good to see hin at full speed again. Not sure yet. They did not work on special teams any in spring. I think McDaniel will kick again.
  17. Good job VHS. Much improved from last season. John B!!! To be an ME fan, I should not have to point out that our secondary was all soph. because the starters are going to state for track and did not participate.
  18. I would really have loved to have had Blanton,Clark and Howell for that scrimmage. Our secondary looked like a young bunch and made mistakes that lead to big plays. Other than that, I was pleased by the D and saw some new youngsters show up!!! Cody Ricker looked pretty darn good at QB.
  19. Well, the personal fouls kind of went across the board, all 3 teams got a little testy at times. To answer the question of how Hampton looked, They looked good. They did move the ball well but did not really slow down either team with their D. I think the difference between bigger schools and smaller schools is usually overall team speed and that is what hurt Hampton. The corners just did not contain much and the edges were wide open all night. I was impressed with them overall. I hope everyone stayed healthy and best of luck to you guys this season.
  20. 5-5:30 Hampton will be there so it will be a 3way.
  21. Ricker was there today and looked good at QB. He will get reps this Friday.
  22. The QB was Aaron Wheeler(so.). He will be a rb/wr come fall. We will not have Ricker or Howell for the scrimmage on Fri. @ qb nor Clark(wr) or Blanton(rb) because of track and baseball.
  23. 52? I guess you meant 72.LOL The 7th has been scratched. We will not have a QB and only 1 RB for the scrimmage due to track and baseball. The one here on the 15th is still on. Friday(8th) should be a 11 on 11 scrimmage at full speed at Long-Reel. They will go all 5 days next week and wrap it up on the 15th with Volunteer on the turf.
