  1. PHargis you are right as usual on many points. My question does indeed involve all sports. We know football and basketball is the driving force for all TSSAA does. During the past year several private schools have won state titles. Spring fling may bring more. Will the public schools represented in TSSAA decide that enough is enough an make some drastic changes? I do not know how many private schools feel about their own having their own association. Just thinking of possibilities ans throwing out what I hear. Since I follow volleyball that is where I get most of my perspective. Come the middle of June it will be interesting to see what changes come about. Maybe some district realignment. As far as districts 3 an 4 in volleyball we shall see. K2 and Phoenix have had a significant impact in the area.

  2. BB,answered this a few days ago but it didnt take. Any answer to this is an opinion and I am sure there are many who will fill in the blanks. I really can't get your drift as to why you are asking about volleyball. Volleyball is though the fastest growing female sport in HS and has become one of the most competitive mainly because of great summer training in Club and the evolution in the past 3-4 years or more of current Volleyball coaches that have begun to take the game seriously and during that same time an influx of University Players coaching that really know the game. The game is intense and fans have become insightful and are asking play to be better and better.

The senario you mentioned, if it happened, would include I suppose all High School sports or every school. Some privates would not mind your senario but others might. Sme publics might like it and some might not care. I'm not going to go on record because right now publics don't really have anything to gain or lose in any sport in High School in Tennessee. They are coming off of a time when attendance is great in every sport. The schedules are so that travel is not bad although in some areas it is worse. there seems to be enough teams in each classification that interDistrict play makes things very interesting. While you did not mention it, you didnt give enough details whether DI and D2 schools would still be able to play each other but if they didnt, it wouldnt effect D1's. Some D2 schools like to travel and some dont but most D2 games dont draw much of a crowd overall so on an average its a minus as far as attendance fpr D1 schools.

I dont think there is any bolting to be done by D2. For some reason, each state can only have one association unless its been changed. This is mentioned every year and there is a chance that all privates can have their separation in TSSAA but whether it happens will be more determined by Football because the rest of the sports really dont care.

The real issue in this whole matter is this. When a school signs a contract to go by rules and decides not to go by them or get his/her group to agree not to go by them, it becomes a matter of ethics as to whether everybody's together. it makes a difference as far as the State Organization is concerned as to what they stand for. And maybe, as has been insinuated, how many deals have been cut. I dont think any. I like the private schools who are in DI and they compete. Eventually its likely there will be no multiplier but it will take more years than I can tell.

On the other side the albatross around Public Schools neck is the transfer rules. Right now they ae concise and easy to understand but they are too easy. But everything can't be perfect. So, the nonly ones talking about bolting, if any, are those private schools in DI and if that happens, then here comes the Charter and magnet schools and at the end, maybe, the student and parent can go whee they want. Is that what you were asking?

BB keep that District 3 and 4 strong again this year. There are some great players coming thru it the next few years.

  3. Lots of rumors out there but here is one I have heard floating around. Private schools are trying to get the multiplier reduced to make it more equitable. However, the word is TSSAA is going to place ALL private schools together. What happens if the private schools totally bolt TSSAA for their own association? How will that affect all sports especially volleyball?

  4. I do need the Schedule of the Kil. Either post it here or send to PHargis@aol.com and I will format it for you and post it. thanks.

  5. It is tough to list the preseason top 16 teams in A-AA because some districts/regions are stronger top to bottom. Therefore, I have listed (in reverse alphabetical order) the teams I feel are most likely to make it to the regional finals. I must say that there are several districts/regions that I am unfamiliar with. In that case, I based my prediction on recent participation in the State tournament and what I have actually seen at the state tournament over the last three years. Please list your favorites and give us the Districts/Regions that you are most familiar with. I am most familiar with Regions 1, 2, and 3.

    USJ, R7

    Trinity Christian, R7

    Sycamore, R5

    Sullivan North, R1

    South Greene, R1

    Portland, R4

    Page, R6

    Notre Dame, R3

    Loretto, R6

    Knoxville Catholic, R2

    Jackson South Side, R8

    Greenbrier, R4

    East Ridge, R3

    Donelson Christian Academy, R5

    Crockett County, R8

    Anderson County, R2

    HiVolAC

Very interesting picks for so early. Have you heard anything about the Choo Choo team camp or Brentwood? How has Anderson County done in their summer camps? From what I heard from last year they have 5 returning starters plus a very strong bench. With new coaches I guessed they will be pretty jazzed to prove to everyone they can still be the king of AA volleyball in TN. How do those thoughts go with yours?

  6. Well, this is my first time replying to all 'yu' volleyball nuts. I have surfed "coach T" for the past year or so as an anonymous viewer and thoroughly enjoyed all of the jabber going back and forth. I especially think the LUV between Bratman and Patsfan is hilarious. I think they must be related by marriage (and not their choice). I try and watch volleyball (college or HS) whenever I can and love it. I even played back in the day when I could get off of the ground.

This time of year is great and I only want to wish the best of luck to all of the teams still playing. From what I have seen this year in A/AA, it looks like ND has the consistency and overall ball control to win it all. That is my prediction. Of course with the tradition AC has, and the superb coaching staff I think they will be a factor before all is done. But then again like NatureBoy says, always "fear the fro". Neely is one of the best coaches in the state and Brock is certainly one of the best players, so who knows about them. As for KC, it seems as though (according to posts on this site) that they are not playing well right now and have some injury problems. I say:

    ND

    AC

    ER

    and who knows.....
