  1. First year...you were only a couple of matches away from getting your first win. Dont give up! It takes time. It took DB almost 2 years to get their first win when they started the team.
  2. Zack Fleming(Dobyns Bennett) will turn some heads. Just 200lbs but wrestles 285. He gave B Murray and Z Potter good matches last year as a sophmore.
  3. DB had 2 good athletes at last year's spring practice. They never made it to August. They had the size, speed and strength, just missing between the ears. Both would have made a difference if they could have stuck around.
  4. Some changes need to be made in Kingsport just like in Knoxville. Kpt- a new offensive coach. DB had 2 different seasons in one because a coach would not make adjustments early on. Problems were showing up in August but no changes until they were 1-3. It has always been DB's style to allow 2 and 3 chances to the trouble makers. Good kids, they ride and ride hard with no 2nd chances! GC learned that under Wilson. The list is long and not worth mentioning names. DB had 2 kicked off this year for stilling and fighting...they will back this spring. DB does have some big guys returning, but just like this year, big and weak. Not all, but to be a good team, you cant have a couple of weak players in the line up. A good team will exploit it. GC said himself they need to hit the weight room, hard to do it with 140 players. Get rid of the jokers and let the real players work. Still think they need to have some players run track to work on speed. Look to see DB picked to win conference.
  5. There is a reason why Michael Graham Holt was coaching defense. Very heavily involved for a second year coach.
  6. Hmmm, don't need to watch practice when #45 says himself he practiced some at LB this year. And as far as WB playing pass coverage, that would have been a first for one LB this year. He blitzed %90 of the time. The "dog" LBs are the ones responsible for pass coverage. And that is from someone who doesnt have to camp out everyday at practice.
  7. It was a monsoon, but the rain did not beat DB. Riggs was the go to man when they needed the yards much like Little Man Stewart. BJ and Chase had good power but they didnt have the speed or the moves. Adonis, maybe the quickest back in years. Pound for pound they havent had enough big strong players. One or two on each side of the ball is not going to win come playoff time. Maybe against the weak teams but not the ones with winning records. I dont take notes on high school football like you do, but when GC makes his preseason civic meetings he has always talked about several players being strong. Now his talks include how they NEED TO BE strong. As far as some names was their a Hyatt (a hulk looking lineman), Forrester LB, and the 2 brothers who played safety and RB. Sorry teach, I will try to take better notes at my meeting next summer. Question, where is the speed for next year other than Crawford and Sylvester. Speed that is big enough to tackle too. Everyone knows GC never let the younger guys get real experience for the next year when a game was out of reach.
  8. I agree with you. He would have put some size and strength at the LB position. The right side got exposed Friday night. Will is pretty fast for his size and definitely one of the strongest if not the strongest returning next year. ( I dont count a 250 lb being able to do his own weight as strong.) Pound for pound he is one of the strongest. He works out outside of the $4 million weight room. Interesting comment by GC talking about getting in the weight room. This team was weak and it showed in their tackling. Too much hand grabbing from a couple of key positions. Once again DB goes down from a stud running back (Riggs, Stewart). Hopefully CS will bring that punch we havent had since Faulkerson. Jamie has an excellent future in baseball. I was suprised to see him play football this year. DB lost a couple of good players this year to focus on baseball and basketball. Next year's team will need SPEED. Unfortunatly 80 players watched this year and we dont know much about next year. Sylvester and Crawford are the 2 fastest returning next year. After those 2 it really drops off. If Crawford is QB, I dont like playing him on D too. As we saw Friday night from Hawg, safety is important. One that can for sure make tackles. I would move Sylvester to safety. The corners?? JV's 2 corners got kicked off. What players run track? That will quickly tell you if next year's team has any speed. Funny thing since getting the new field house you never hear GC talk about his strong players as he did in the past. The team will have good size next year, just need speed and strength. DB should rent the stadium for the South/Greeneville game???? (Definitely if South plays Maryville) Help pay for that new turf! Now that will fire up Colonial Hts more than their annual leaf burning!
  9. Yeah, and how many picked against the VOLS against GA, SC and ARK? They know about picking as much as we do. What schools are interested in him?
  10. Thats too bad the entire band will not make the trip. Good for DB fans to be able to find a seat, but bad for team support. As many band parents that follow the band, why not some of them ride with parents? WaCo, are you OK? You have really displayed excellent self control this week with all of the jabber displayed.
  11. Old Injun saying: Locked door of pottie tee pee = occupied, cross em legs!
  12. Jeeez, I have been saying that all year. Although 47 is a leader in tackles, it is tackle or NOTHING, He bltzes 90%. They will pick on him. I dont think the big man's shoulder will allow him to go both ways the entire game. They may need another big man SC for the 4-2 defense. If GC or some coach doesnt get some nads and yank 10 on the punt returns this will be our last week of posting. 10, in case the coach hasnt told you GET AWAY FROM THE BALL WHEN IT IS ROLLING!
  13. Huhhh? I agree with ya. Preach on. When the passing was good from QB, receiver stunk. Smelly QB, open receivers. Calling for little rain now on Friday. OR WILL make DB throw!
  14. Preach on. GC has changed parties, it was a longer list 2 months ago. I'll vote for you.
  15. Ahhh WaCo, you of all people should know truthfulness does not mean one can not be a fan. Afterall, should we not forget all of your replies last year on DB? Cant wait to see your responses on DB's next loss on any sport.
  16. With 2 lineman on the sideline with shoulder injuries, CS coming off the field limping, the dumb call was having JS in the game running the ball with less than 2 minutes in a game that is 38-14. JS is one of only 4 players out of the 100 on the team that has any speed. It gets real slow after 2, 15, 24, and 10 including the 96 others. Not to mention JS has limped off the field several times this year. Even dumber is having so many starters on a kick off with less than 8 minutes to go in a game that DB's defense has dominated all but one big play. The kick off is the most intense, high impact play in football. Against a rival team losing big anything can happen clean or not. DB will not catch OR off guard, OR will have to play bad for DB to win. OR will put 8 men in the box and make DB beat them with the pass (1-12 Friday night). If not this year, next, run the play most colleges are now running with putting the QB as a wideout with direct snap coming to the running back. Have JS line up in the backfield with #10 as QB, #10 goes in motion as a wide out. JS either runs, throws or gets it in the hands of CS. All 3 are real threats. OR 21 - DB 10
  17. Coach of the year after only beating 2 teams with winning records??? I would vote for Jefferson County or Campbell County. Coach of the year is turning a program around or doing something that hasnt been done in a while.
  18. Of the 6 wins only one team has a winning record (6-4). The combined record of the 6 teams is 23-37. Everybody expected him to win out the last half of the season. After Saturday Fulmer has really turned it around too?
  19. Skunk, FYI, you having had several boys at DB now and past they may know Jonathan Metcalf. They can go to www.caringbridge.org/visit/jonmetcalf and get updates on his progress. It doesnt sound to good. Need some prayers guys.
  20. Sorry, I agree. Frustrating to go to other schools and they pray and DB cant/will not. Again, you are right.
  21. The student body has a heavy heart this week. A Sr, Jonathan Metcalf, (soccer player) had a freak accident on Monday while cleaning golf carts at RCC. He had to have surgery on his brain yesterday and the next 24-48 hours are VERY critical for his recovery. A prayer is most appreciated. Hopefully those in charge at DB will have the "nads" to ask for PRAYER at the DB game.
  22. I didnt say that is what I would do, but what GC tries. I agree with you, but I bet GC tries it. It also depends on how many lbs CS puts on. He has the potential to get "big". Who would have thought it would take GC 4 games to move up under center. 45 shouldnt be a back up now. 33 needs to play D and focus all energy on D. Some of DB's best fullbacks in past years did not play both ways. Why, because a true fullback needs a rest. Some of those guys go from O to kick off to D and never rest. Come playoff time, that will end DB along with punting. Note: not had to do much punting in the past game and it will show come pressure time. (both us punting, 20 yds, us trying to block em every time and a returner not knowing when to fair catch and when to run hurt us on our losses).
