Why so personal? Whats it matter who plays well as long as your team wins?

That general isn't right or wrong, everyone, including Deven, will need to play well to beat Upperman again. Lets not bash our own fans for their opinions. I think the guy was just trying to say how it would help if Deven did play well... Thats just my opinion....

My point exactly. I was merely saying that we need more than just Ramsey to play well. Defeating Upperman on their floor will be tough but very possible. My point about Dunn is that he is the quarterback of it all. Whether you believe in the post game, run and gun, or 3 pointers, to me it takes a little of all to be successful. But as you say love, that's just my opinion.

Sorry to disappoint you 'Nut', but there is no relation between Ramsey and myself. He isn't that good looking.

If you would stop and think about it for a second, it would make sense. Dunn is going to have around 15-20 points a night. But you have to be able to have a good post game to win big games. Your big man may not score alot, but he needs to be a threat to score so that it opens up everything else, he needs to pull some offensive rebounds to get you some put-backs, block some shots, and make it hard for the other team to score inside. You can also use your big man to get the other team in foul trouble, which will work to your advantage at the end of the game.

Dunn is the leader and the go to guy, no doubt about that. But the other kids have to play their roles to win the big games.

Does that explain why I think he needs a good game to beat teams like Upperman, SportsNut?. I'm glad you are keeping up with my posts though, makes me feel important. Watch the entire game and not just who scores and you will see that a lot of the little things have to be done to chalk up a win.

Hey general sure didn't mean to strike a nerve. Your knowledge of the game is very impressive. I didn't realize until I read your post what all a good post game could do. I was merely making the point that to defeat a good basketball team like an Upperman you need solid efforts from people like Stover,West,Everley,McCleran, etc. It's not just Ramsey who needs to have a good game. All the players can contribute to blocking shots, getting offensive rebounds, and getting the other team in foul trouble. I would guess Dunn leads the team in free throw attempts and I'd say he hasn't been fouled by a guard everytime. So, 'General' thanks for the insight on the post game. As far as your posts, you are a regular in LA topics so it doesn't a lot 'keeping up' to read your posts.

Livingston will need to play very well to beat Upperman on their floor. Ramsey needs to have a big game.

General, I was wondering if you are related to the Ramsey boy? Seems like every time there is a question on here about LA winning a crucial game, you always say things about the key to winning will be something Ramsey needs to do. I thought the key to this LA team was Dunn. Just curious.

  4. I have read a lot posts on coach t about how elementary school sports are not about winning and losing. It is supposed to prepare each kid for the next level. Too much emphasis is put on winning rather teaching the sport to the child. My question is this: What about the kids who don't play in high school? Is it fair to them for the coach not to worry about W's and L's? Not all kids are blessed enough to be able to play at the high school level. So, I would think the ones who don't play a particular sport in high school could look back on their elementary memories more favorable if they played on a winning team. I would also like for someone to define the term "playing as a team." If you have a player averaging 20 points per game and another one averaging 17 or 18, but the team's record happens to be 20-5, are they not playing as a team? Every team, especially your good teams, have their go to people. If you don't have every player taking an equal number of shots in a game then are you guilty of not playing as a team? I guess it goes back to how much emphasis is put on winning.

I think this topic should be moved to the Middle School board...Then all of you could purchase Plus Memberships that cost $1 a month so that we could talk about it a little more in depth....

I thought this was a middle school board.

  6. i think Smith has a good chance to knock them off. but i think L.A.'s coach is a pretty good coach and has probably made the wildcats have a long week of practice because they have lost 3 in a row, it's really bad timing for smith 2 catch L.A. after a 3 game skid, but they still got a shot, it will be hard 4 them to stop ramsey, it's really in dunn's hands if L.A. wins or not

From what little I've seen and heard of LA, it seems most of the time it's in Dunn's hands as to how successful the Cats are. I think he averages bout 20 a game. Looks like he's the big gun.
  7. hey brad pendergraft, don't dig yourself a hole that you can't climb out of. I don't know you personally, but everyone in town knows that you are willie beaman.

on another note, maynord is no longer in the running for the head coaching job.

Is it definite that Maynord is no longer in the running? Did he even interview?
  8. Yes Dunn is a fine talent and should be recognized when everything is said and done. But as a fan of LA sports I would hope that his main focus would be on York this tuesday and not how many points he scores or that LA will be a state contender next year. Let's play this season first... better yet let's get focused for what he needs to do at York. They may have a player that keeps him from shooting like WH did. Is he going to try and force shots b/c he wants to be the leading scorer. He should use his talents elsewhere like trying to get the ball inside to Ramsey and Co. and playing defense. Let the game come to him should be his focus and he should not try to force anything. If he's hot one night then have at it... shoot till his heart's desire. If a team tries to shut him down then help the team in the other ways I mentioned. I had rather be recognized as the complete player that helped my team win than be the all time scorer that just wanted to make himself look good.

I listened to the Cookeville game the other night and LA pulled away by 20 and then next thing you know the Cavs cut it to 9. Sounded like Dunn and I'm not sure who else came down and fired up a useless 3 a time or two and missed and gave the Cavs a chance to get closer. That's what I'm talking about when a player is trying to blow a team out even more or trying to pad their stats will usually come back and bite you. Good thing coach pulled them out or LA could have lost that game. That should be a good lesson learned. There's no reason what so ever to come down 20 up and start flinging the trey. wWork some clock make the other team commit some fouls. Make them make the mistakes.

Occasionally, all KIDS will put up ill-advised shots. But as basketball teams go, every team needs a straw to stir the drink and believe me Dunn is the straw. He may be a spoke in the wheel, but he is the biggest spoke. Do you people think MJ didn't do what he had to for his team to win. And correct me if I'm wrong that was to shoot the ball. Dunn, like a lot of other scorers, may take some bad shots but when the money is on the line he's the man I would like to see taking the key shot.
  9. Pool A

    Avery Trace

    Pickett Co

    Livingston

    Celina

    Pool B

    Avery Trace 2

    Rickman

    Allons

    Allardt

This tournament seemed to have went well. The Allons Hawks beat Celina in the semi-finals (41-26), to go on to beat Avery Trace in the championship game (54-25).

I think the Rickman Bulldogs finished 3rd and the Celina Bulldogs finished 4th.

I heard Avery Trace combined their 2 teams. Is this true? Is that legal. Looks as if it didn't matter anyway. Big games from anybody?
  10. Its a sad day in town when you run off one of your own. As for the previous post, how could the team not be hurt by this? They just lost a great coach. Did the town really expect him to win half of his games this season? Not to put the Wildcats down, but they are young and their talent has not reached its full potential yet. Not many people could have done a better job with that young of a team. If the towns-people know more about football, then they should coach. There has to be some sort of politics involved in this. I can't see getting rid of a coach after one bad season. It would serve the town right if Danny took his two boys somewhere else to go to school. Best of luck to McCoin in whatever he does from here.

It is funny that none of the people that have such a problem with Coach McCoin cant get on here and speak their side of the story. Could it be that they have no real reason for what they have done?

To my knowledge, Coach McCoin was not run off. If he was told he was going to be fired, just exactly who told him that? You make the statement why hasn't the "other side" gotten on here and told their story, who is the other side? Furthermore, I always thought problems were supposed to be dealt with face to face, not on Coach T. I respect Coach McCoin and his abilities, but matters can be handled better than getting on Coach T and throwing barbs at each other.
  11. Coach McCoin, I hope you take your Son and move on to whereever it may be. A Friend of mine says your Son is the real deal and the future of LA so I hope you take him away from this Community and let him be great somewhere else. You shouldnt have been treated this way and I certainly hope you dont go back in any other role. LA plays in the toughest region in the State I cant imagine what the people of LA expect.

I feel for Coach McCoin. He's a really fine guy and I wish him the best. As far as his son goes, he is a good young player, but calling him the FUTURE of LA is pretty strong words. He has plenty of other talented teammates in his class as well as the class ahead of him. I think the frosh and soph class as a whole should be considered the future. As far as the elementary players who are coming in, I'm really not familiar enough with those kids to say what contributions they might be able to make to the program. I do understand they had a pretty good year 6 or 7 wins and i think 3 losses. But, good luck to the whole LA program and you Coach Mc.
