  1. Stating facts is not crying.

I predict next year some assortment of Goodpasture, Alcoa, CPA and DCA will be in the final 4 of 2A football. Same goes for the year after that as well. Probably the year after that too. The only thing that can stop it from happening is making some of them play each other in the same bracket.

Some of that is tradition. Some of it is 'attracting' superior athletes. That's a disadvantage to the closed zone public no matter how you slice it. Harpeth Middle beat Goodpasture Middle in 2006 30-6. I'll bet the 2010 Goodpasture team will bear little resemblance to the 2006 middle school team, but the Harpeth High team will be almost identical. How's that not a disadvantage?

All it takes is a running back or a wide out or a quarterback or a linebacker. 2 or 3 guys can make a difference.

Don't forget success can breed further success. GP will have played 44 games in the last three years counting next weeks game. 14 weeks of extra practice can make average players considerbly better. This years average underclassman player at GP has the opportunity to get better by repetition which eventually shows up on the field. It is not only the few stud players that make a difference.

  2. well traditionally their programs aren't to good, look at the MIDDLE SCHOOL TEAM like he said, i don't know if those kids gained a yard all year. in four years they will have the wing t down so well, they too will be competing for a state championship.

What's nice about the 5-6th grade team is that they ran the wing-T and had only one team come close to them. Last years 5-6th grade team was 1-7 which reflects what you stated. I bet a lot of this years middle shcool players were probably on that team.

  3. I am going to say somethign that no one has mentioned yet. Goodpasture's middle school program is awful. Why? The 40 people who were on the team my 8th grade year were learning the system and how to block the plays and play good defense. This is the way Goodpasture works they get kids in the system when they are 12 or 13 and they are in this system of 5 or 6 years to where they are so familiar with it that they can block the correst assignments asleep. The seniors on this team have all been playing in this system for 4 to 6 years. They have been playing together for 4 to 6 years and have been best friends for 4 to 6 years. Goodpasture's team is a family we eat together have have fun together and we play together that is the biggest difference between this team and teams of the past.

The GP 5-6th grade team this year went 8-0, beating Ezell Harding x 2, DCA,Middle TN Christian, Friendship Christian, Davisdon Academy, Lipscomb, and St Josephs.

  4. don't ever count the milan bulldogs out. 4 gold balls carries a big stick when it comes to playoffs in tennesse. all i can say is goodpasture need not come to milan friday thinking this is gonna be a cake walk, as some of their posts on other threads seem to presume. this is gonna be a game decided on who makes the fewest mistakes. turnovers will play a big factor in this game. it can go either way and it will be close. both teams will need to put points on the board at every oppurtunity so the kicking game will also play a big factor. GOD BLESS BOTH TEAMS ON A HARD FOUGHT, INJURY FREE GAME.

    MILAN-19

    GOODPASTURE-16

GP doesn't look past anyone. That's why they are 13-0, focused and unselfish. The Cougars have been here before (3 balls and 6 appearances). All games at this level are tough and I cant see why this would be any different. I'm planning on going and I heard the stadium and the fans provide one of the best atomspheres for HS football. Looking forward to it.

  5. OOPS.....my mistake..not 6400...its actually 5800.00 with 64 players that would total $409,600.00 football team.....and education of course. But that is quite a deal....considering CPA cost is around 9700.00 (Non member) or around 8800.00 if member of the church. The cost of a championship....is not priceless...if I was paying that kind of money would expect nothing less than a championship.

I was raised in a public school system in southern middle Tennessee. My mother was a public schoolteacher and my sister is currently a Metropolitan Nashville schoolteacher. However, I have two children who have attended Goodpasture for 8 & 9 years and yes, it is expensive but well worth the value. They are both zoned to attend MaGavock High School but instead they attend a school where every teacher knows them by name, they have daily bible class, they are held responsible for their actions, and the teachers are not apathetic and will approach us with their concerns. I work hard to make this happen, we don't drive new cars (both over 130,000miles), we don't buy fancy clothes, and we save because our children are most prized posession. There are alot of Goodpasture families in the same position. I thank God every day that have the opportunity to do this for them. Please don't assume that I do this the buy football, baseball, or softball championships. The championships are earned by blood, sweat, and tears on the practice and game fields. These kids are no different than the kids I grew up with.
