  1. I used a Canon digital rebel XT for our entire football season. Managed to amass about 3,000 pictures that I could classify as "keepers".

I used a Sigma 70-200 zoom 2.8f lens and operated the camera in the "creative zone". Generally I would be able to shoot at about 250/th shutter speed but it generally depended on where I was positioned and what angle I was shooting onto the field (if the shots were coming from the stands and hitting the center area of the field I would get more light and get a faster shutter speed, if I was on the field and shooting across, the shutter speeds would slow down as the amount of light was diminished some).

I would generally shoot something between 150-250 shots a game, come home and scroll through them all, discarding what hadnt gotten enough light and was blurry, or just in general were "bad" shots. I recommend getting a 2gb flash card and just going nuts when taking pictures. You will find some amazing shots in the mix and will discard those that don't do well.

I then utilized walgreens.com and posted every "keeper" for our entire school to pull from. All it took was to make sure that everyone had the login and password and they could go and select the ones they wanted, choose the walgreens they wanted them from and then just go pick them up the next day.

The biggest consideration when buying a camera is not just the body, in fact if I weighted the importance of body vs. lens, I'd say the lens is the most important. Without a low f stop. The lower the number the better. You'll end up spending 1200-1500 for a canon lens and about 700-900 for the sigma equivalent. Both lenses are great lenses for football at night.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I hope you find it helpful. Have fun, it's an addicting thing once you get into it.

  2. That is a load crap, There were no finger flying or taunting the Fayette crowd or players. I have watched the game tape twice and have not seen any worms or snow angels. Fayette fans are just upset that you lost a game that you thought you were going to win. Let's talk about the Fayette players cursing our players all night long. This is the pot calling the kettle black. Your thuggish comment is very disrespectful. This group of LC kids are all very good kids. You do not know any of these kids so you should not try and run down a bunch of 14 to 18 year olds.

I was extremely respectful with my response. I congratulated your team and even wished you luck. I never reverted to anything other than facts. There was taunting, there was the worm, there were fingers (from one player) and there was the foot scraping (all this done on the 50 yard line. Fayette lost, Lake Cty won. And what happened on the field after the game happened after the game. I made nothing up, and my post was not the only post about the actions of the lake county players after the game. Man up and admit that your actions weren't what they should have been.

One thing I did fail to mention and should have. I did see one Lake county player that had a ton of class. This kid walked all the way across the field to the Fayette Side, found #6 and gave him a quick hug and a pat on the back of the head. I was impressed with his actions.

  3. Vols fan..These are all good kids..They've lost the past two years to this same school and were just being kids...I didn't see the worm but I left..As far as tearing up the field..I don't know what they could have done with their cleats other than what both teams did the whole game...Fayette has a great program and we've been there the past two years..These kids have been having the pressure of having all this talent and not being able to win a big game..other than the teams that we thought they would beat..Last night..Lake Co finally showed the talent that we all thought they had..I don't believe they were in any way intentionally trying to not show good sportmanship! They had all kinds of calls go against them last night again, and I believe they were just being a bunch of happy players celebrating a big win over a great quality team..Had I stayed..I may have done the worm myself..if I knew how!

I'm sure the Lake county kids are a good group, and I understand the desire to celebrate, but they were way out of control. One player ran to the middle of the field where the Vikings "V" is and did the whole "horse dragging the hoof" move across the V. The worm, the snow angel. Several players "taunting" the crowd (hands raised, fingers flying). These are only some examples, the "celebration" when on like this by the whole lot and it really bordered disgraceful.

It's too bad the lake county coaches didn't take the opportunity to teach kids how to be graceful winners. I can honestly say that the Viking team has done nothing but win with class, the team never reverted to thuggish behaviour and treated each team with the upmost respect. Too bad those kids didn't get the same when they were beaten.

Good luck with your next game, I only hope that if you lose, you aren't treated the same way Fayette was.
